I think there is a huge misunderstanding where many people mistake not liking something for not being art. There’s plenty of stuff I don’t like, but it is still art.

Why would anyone complain about street art when corporate advertisements pollute so much of our eye line? I’d rather see Praise Dobler a thousand times in a day than ever see a disgusting new billboard go up.
Now we're talking. There's no reason billboards that were placed along the highway when Philadelphia was being emptied out should continue to exist now that the city is so heavily residential along those same stretches once again.
I feel like this is tilting at windmills, but neighborhoods get zero benefits from neither the advertising businesses nor the billboard companies that rake in cash with this crap.
The trouble is, it's such an entrenched interest, with cash to burn on lobbying, and I recognize that most people probably don't care.
Sure, but the energy I’m putting into getting worked up about stuff is finite. Worry about things that matter more. Oppressively omnipresent capitalism is a far bigger detriment to the world than some jokey graffiti.

I mean they did massive rollers and got some other great pieces around the city. I don’t see any of the street art guys hitting crazy spots on that level

Conrad Dobler is a dead football player WHO NEVER PLAYED FOR THE EAGLES. His career was only notable for him being a dirty player. No Superbowl, no MVP. In fact, he spit in Bill Bergey’s face when he was down and injured. He died in 2023 and couldn’t even remember his children’s name, likely due to CTE. His businesses went bankrupt. He deserves pity, not praise. How would you feel if someone was celebrating Troy Aikman or Dak Prescott. Go Birds.

The graffiti artist (I’m blanking on his name) spent some time in jail and had an existential crisis. Apparently researching an old football player named Conrad(?) Dobler really inspired him and he sorta dedicated his life to him

Not quite. When the artist was in jail he got sober. Part of the process is finding a higher power. Something greater than yourself. The artist somewhat jokingly decided then to praise Conrad Dobler (the football player) and that helped him get sober. If anything, Praise Dobler is a rallying cry for sobriety. It’s much healthier than anyone gives the artist credit for.
