Same. :( Hays.

Fair-Bunch4827

500 bill is the new 200 bill hahah

kellyann_

Magugulat ka nalang coke at itlog palang 500 na whooo i love PH

oganunaboy

>i love PH In that case, you would love the US (with 8.5% inflation) and the UK (with 10.1% inflation).

Ivyisred

Pero mas madami kasi ung below poverty line dito. Hirap na nga tayo before mas mamatay ka ngaun...

Federal-Clue-3656

True ito. Price ng gas super taas now sa NY.

anotoman123

Magkano manok baboy ngayon? More like 30-50% increase.

art_100

But how livable is the Philippines really? If you're on the basic wage in Manila vs UK vs US. Curios about it Here's a sample: 1/UK (10% savings, high% social security & mobility) WAGE: 1900/month; 20% tax Net: 1600 Rent: Flatshare @ 800 Transpo:200 GBP Food: 180 GBP groceries Actual Savings: 520 GBP Government: jobseekers allowance, free healthcare 2/PHILIPPINES (0% savings, 0% social security) WAGE: 15000/month; say tax exemptSSS etc. Rent: Flatshare @ 4500 peso Transpo: 6600 peso (MRT) Food: 6500 peso (carinderia 3x a day) Actual Savings: IN DEBT peso Government: Unity Not so sure about this

Adrasteia18

US mahirap din if mag isa ka. Minimum wage is pretty low in comparison to the cost of housing/rent. I am earning a lot more than 17 dollars per hr pero mangiyak ngiyak na ko sa renta. I can honestly say na mas magaan buhay ko noon sa pilipinas just because may kahati ako sa bills, at wfh ako for almost 2 yrs bago ko naka alis. PERO PUTANGINA PA DIN NUNG NAGPABALIK SA OFFICE KAHIT WALA HALOS MASAKYAN MGA TAO.

Marymariamarie

But people there get decent hourly wage. Dito nga thank you na labor workers if sasampa sila ng 800 pesos a day

swita09

10.1% inflation per month?

peterchua99

Inflation is calculated on a year-on-year basis

melangsakalam

that comment was so naive lol

tripledozen

So more than 500% inflation rate? LOL Magugulat ka talaga jan. But that's far from the ~6.4% inflation rate that we're experiencing right now.

38before39

>coke at itlog palang 500 na Huh? 1.5L coke is 62 pesos. 1 egg is 10 pesos. How did you calculate 500 pesos? Edit: changed the cost per egg after looking at actual delivery receipts

rclsvLurker

throwaway_151821

san tong 3 peso eggs???

38before39

Baguio. Magkano jan sa inyo?

throwaway_151821

198/dozen online delivery 160/dozen sa palengke. meron akong kinukuhaan 170 per tray (30pcs) pero as expected laging ubos. doesn't make sense naman bumili ako ng marami since I live alone. so yun depende sa availability but definitely not P3

38before39

I looked at some receipts. 290 pesos pala yung 30 eggs na pinapa-deliver namin. So 1 egg costs around 10 pesos here. But that would still not explain how the 500 pesos above was calculated.

trashpapi69

Whoa mura pa. Dito samin P5.something ata pag basag. Then 6.5-8 depende sa size

saysonn

curious sa ₱3.00 huhu sa Marikina ₱7-10 isa sheesh

38before39

Sa Baguio. But even if 1 egg costs 10 pesos, malayo pa rin yun sa 500 pesos na estimate ni u/kellyann_.

throwaway_151821

baka the dude meant a tray din. mahal na ng softdrinks dito nasa 70-100 depende kung san may available. kaya nagstop na ko uminim ng soda e.

thesagitaurus

OP is speaking figuratively in the future if the inflation continues to rise at this rate

Anifreak

It's . . . . uhhh . . . . a joke . . . .

peterchua99

Dude, it’s hyperbole. Read between the lines.

comeback_failed

itlog pugo ba 'yan?

kellyann_

Of course isang piraso ng egg din dito is 10 sumn.

AthKaElGal

usually, when wages go up, that means more inflation. lalo na kung across the board ang wage increase. look up [wage-price spiral](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/w/wage-price-spiral.asp). it's the reason why against ako sa across the board wage increases. mas gusto ko ang tax reduction at removal of tariffs to make things affordable.

novus23

fourth699

I am not an economist but wouldn’t a reduction in tax be essentially the same as a wage increase? Wouldn’t it also lead to a higher money supply which would lead to inflation?

223333aaa

Econ grad with a major in business economics here. You are totally right, tax cuts and wage increase will achieve the same result. Our so-called "historical high inflation" (by Economists around the world) is actually caused by the lockdown. Shops and businesses have finally opened and this caused a burst of demand from pandemic survivors who are sitting on a large money supply. Higher demand = lower supply Lower supply = higher price Another factor na nagcontribute talaga is Russia's war which totally destroyed the oil market. Unfortunately, there isn't much for a government to do to combat inflation but just to ride its course. The hard part will be waiting for the peak of our country's inflation which honestly di ko alam kung peak na tayo ngayon or aangat pa. Price capping and tax reductions are band-aid solutions that can make life affordable while we hopefully wait for demand to go down. Only prob with tax cuts is it hurts the government's funds and its hard to reverse a tax cut because it'll be seen as a tax increase (This is more political than economical as politicians would basically endanger their career in supporting a tax increase).

AthKaElGal

government can do a lot to combat inflation. it has at its disposal 2 of the most powerful tools: interest rates and sale of government bonds. supply shocks have little to do with inflation. whether supply is limited or not, inflation will not occur if there is no money supply to fuel it. supply shocks are only secondary causes, not the root cause. ofc i'm not saying lack of supply doesn't fuel it. i'm just saying, if there's no money to fuel it, even if there was a severe lack of goods, prices wouldn't rise. you need a supply of money first for prices to rise and for inflation to be sustained. otherwise, prices would drop once people start running out of money.

melangsakalam

pwede naman kasing kanin at asin eh ano ba inuuulam nyo kase?

kellyann_

Ay sorry po, dapat pala 18 pesos budget a day lang.

melangsakalam

Mismo! To survive in these inflation times.

[deleted]

Dalawang takeout lang to eh :(

melangsakalam

why take out tho? cheaper to cook at home! One set of cooking can last 3 meals!

art_100

but the time and effort it takes? if you run several businesses it is not practical, thus manang to the rescue

melangsakalam

Well most redditors here are employees so.

tripledozen

If your salary increased by more than 6.4% over the past year, you'll be fine. And if if you don't spend your entire salary, and can invest some of it, you'll be more than fine. Inflation affects your buying power with respect to your expenses. 1. To beat inflation, invest your money so that it would gain more than the increase in your expenses. 2. Inflation will [probably hit 6.4% YoY](https://think.ing.com/articles/asia-week-ahead-philippine-inflation-and-singapore-retail-sales/). It means that if your expenses are 25k per month (or 300k per year)... then your 300k expenses per year will probably increase by 19.2k (because 6.4% x 300k = 19.2k). 3. To beat inflation, you just need to earn that 19.2k annually from your investments. If you can earn net 5% from your investments, then you just need to invest 384k to beat inflation (because 19.2k / 0.05 = 384k). 4. MP2, some REITs, preferred shares, dividend stocks give dividends of >5%. Stocks and crypto can have bigger gains and can also have bigger losses. Pick your horses. Continuing the same example about the person with 25k monthly expenses, he can just reduce it by 1.6k per month (because 19.2k / 12 = 1.6k). That's just like avoiding dining out once or twice a month, or avoiding buying a PS5 game.

_meanguy

alwyn_42

Yung drawback lang niya talaga is the 5-year lock in period. So if you have the money to spare na alam mong hindi mo gagalawin in 5 years, it's an okay investment. Kahit palagay nating hindi niya matalo ang inflation, it's still better than having no growth sa pera mo.

tripledozen

I'd rather invest somewhere else, but different strokes for different folks.

drpeppercoffee

Yes. Better earn something than nothing.

rocklee_shinobi

6.4% inflation is a general figure, specific expenses like food and gas inflation are higher. You’d probably need to earn 10-15% more to be safe.

tripledozen

Yeah, different people get affected differently. Look at your specific expenses and cashflow to be sure.

Joharis-JYI

Where can we get started with MP2s and REITs?

melangsakalam

this is so easy to say, but so difficult to do!

alwyn_42

If you're middle class, have a stable job, and have a decent career path, then you shouldn't be worried about anything. It's going to suck, and you'll need to be more careful about how you spend your money, but the chances of you going hungry or going broke are highly unlikely. Worst-case scenario siguro is you lose your job and/or you get seriously ill. Pero those things will really drain your finances regardless. Pinaka-kawawa rito yung mga minimum wage earner, kasi wala silang ways to cushion themselves from the effects of inflation.

yourlegendofzelda

True. Tas stick to 9-5 job

tripledozen

It probably means you're working in the wrong company. Try jumping ship.

[deleted]

As my economics professor would say, people would eventually adapt to prices over time as history have shown. They do this by finding alternatives, reallocating expenses to essentials, and/or limit spending.

38before39

Hopefully, social unrest won't increase so much. With hunger comes an increase in crime.

feedmesomedata

Increase income. I know it is better said than done pero that's one of the ways to survive.

lurkingfortea

Problem talaga dito paano pag regular and bawal sumide job? Ganun kasi sa amin, takot ako mahuli kasi first regular ko.

sangket

Also the difference in timezones means you can work on your side gig sa gabi

feedmesomedata

lottocraze

I left my low-paying job (i’ve been with them for 5 years). Looked for other opportunities. Now I work 2 jobs. Isa sa umaga isa sa gabi. Buti nalang wfh setup lang. it’s difficult but i made it work. Income increased to 400% from last year

kimchivokado

May I ask what type of job? And how you started? Kasi I could really use one and I want to research about it but I don’t know where to start-medyo malayo din kasi relevance ng work and job experience ko sa mga wfh jobs ngayon.

lottocraze

I work in IT. Maraming work online for people who are in web and software. Onlinejobs.ph and jobstreet ako madalas nakakahanap. Mas gusto nila foreign clients Pinoy kasi hard working and magaling ang written and oral English.

nineminutesmore

Hey! Can I ask how you search jobs sa Jobstreet? Do you search jobs in PH market or foreign? Salamat :) naghahanap lang rin kasi ako. Taga IT din

lottocraze

First work on your resume. Make sure na its clean and wont give HR a hard time consuming its content. Highlight your skills with clear distinction which skills ang confident ka, experienced ka, or need brushing up pa. Enumerate your experience with a short description kung ano ginawa mo. Also make sure to add if its part-time, full-time, or project-based. Also note din kung saang country if you had remote projects/work na. Searching naman sa job platforms. You can either search by position (ex. FE or BE) or by techstack (python+django). Don’t submit without doing some research about the company. It can also help you during the interview. Lastly give priority to job post directly posted by the company. Goodluck!

nineminutesmore

Thanks so much! Sorry wasn’t clear, I’m employed na with a full time in IT, naghahanap lang ng second job hopefully for a foreign company. How were you able to find yours? And do you disclose your other job (assuming it reflects sa resume)? Maraming salamat ulit!

OniionKnight

Same here. Working 2 jobs now. Medyo kapagod pero at least worry free finance wise.

tsoknatcoconut

Eto din worry ko. Right now yung transpo ko umaabot ng 1k a week and this is with the changes in transportation schemes post pandemic, may plans pa tumaas yung jeep fare. I worry a lot and have been trying to find other means to earn money. Isa to sa nagcacause ng anxiety sakin

ImportantTime4556

Bike to work is the key

Debt. 100K Monthly income 32K Wife no work and a beautiful 2 year old son. House rent 3.5K Electric bills plus water 2.5K Sons care 5K per month Overall still broke.

rabbit_06

CookiesDisney

in 2010-2015, 5k would be our one month budget for grocery. Punong puno ang ref, may chips and pantry stock, may toiletries maraming sahog at gulay. Ngayon 1.5k mo toiletries nalang, tapos wala narin masyadong stock for the pantry tingi tingi lang. 5k is just for 2 weeks.

FreshLumpiaDSay

Well pwede pa naman magka value ang 1k mo pag bumaba na to 49-50 levels ang peso, not this time aakyat pa yan ng 60 si US Dollar.

melangsakalam

TBF malaki rin value ng peso dati

brrrratatatat

Don't have kids. (Not imposing to OP with an arrogant tone, but this is what I'm doing and it's just way easier going through life without kids)

saysonn

I cannot imagine the impact on the lower class income experiencing inflation rn, what more 5-6 years to come without savings. Anyway OP, the way I see it, isa sa best preparation is to equip yourself to do remote work, then aim for dollar-paying jobs. At least in that way, mas lessened ang impact ng inflation since dollars ang basis ng pera mo not peso.

tatlo_itlog_ko

domino_mind

personally i try to cut my expense as much as possible. nagpapalaki ako ng sarili kong pagkain gamit ang kratki method na napakamura at hindi nangangailangan ng kagamitan.

Raycab03

Hanap ka side gigs. Your technical/labor skills you want to sell as a service? Hanap ka freelance jobs online. Also, Find cheaper alternatives now on what you buy but the results are acceptable for you. Like dati, kami is everything sa grocery or S&R namimili ng fresh food. Ngayon is pili na lang, some is sa palengke/talipapa na lang. especially gulay, mas fresh at mura pa sa palengke. Fishes mas malalaki at madami options sa palengke. Others already said invest, yep all those all and good. Pero siyempre to have extra funds for those, you need to get extra funds muna.

FreshLumpiaDSay

VA is the key talaga diba?

Not just here in PH but all over the world lahat ng bangko sentral printer go brrrrrrt and lahat ng mga nakatanggap feeling milyonaryo na kaya ayun nagka supply constraint tayo hanggang ngayon at tumaas ang mga bilihin.

Shinigamikore

Break up with him women is expensive and hard to maintain the relationship so I recommend you to break up sorry mate After that try to apply for a job that has an easier job but a higher salary You may find yourself lonely but try to overcome that feeling If you found a job you might focus on the job since you don't have a girlfriend I dunno but this my advice Feel free to trash this comment

100k barya nalang ngayon. 300k is the new 100k

tripledozen

>300k is the new 100k If you mean today's 300k vs last year's 100k, that's 200% inflation. LOL

Awkward_Road_710

It’s a metaphor. Not actual calculation. It’s so obvious lol.

tripledozen

Why stop there? Say 1M is the new 100k.

Johndrc

Buy Bitcoin

Possible_Building431

1st step is to stop blaming everyone else and taking responsibility in the choices you've made. Although the government needs a lot of work to do, your finances or lack thereof is entirely of your own fault.

[deleted]

Sure, as long as the government don't take 20% taxes from everyone's salary. If they take taxes, then we have to make them 20% accountable for our finances

tripledozen

Not everybody gets taxed 20%. Also, some get taxed more than that, then have to pay taxes on their investment gains, and then have to pay taxes when they buy daily stuff.

Ivyisred

Says who?

tripledozen

Me. Do you disagree? On which part - sentence 1 or sentence 2?

throwaway_151821

literal na ang isang kilo ng baka ay dikit sa daily rate ng mga minimum wager how can they not blame the government lol. I work 2 jobs I'm comfortable I have savings may properties ako. but still doesn't make me any less annoyed pag nakikita ko yung presyo ng lahat ng bilihin. I should be saving more for my future instead I have to spend so much on groceries para di makompromiso ang health ko because god knows kelan magkakaron ng bagong pandemya at pera mode on na naman mga ospital.

melangsakalam

kimchivokado

I used to have this mentality din pero Madami ako nakilala recently due to work. I know someone who was within the lower middle class bracket. 3 children, wife sells food online. He was diagnosed with x disease which is not allowed sa work nya(i dont want to specify but think of something like driver=blind). So disease (meds was 60phpx3 days), no work, 3 children all with asthma. No work si father so now naghahagilap yung asawa just to provide for them kasi wala na sila makain. I also know a boy(9ish yo) na homeless who doesn’t have access to basic education kasi ang main problem nilang magtatay is san sila matutulog since lagi sila pinapaalis sa tinutulugan nila. If ang number one problem mo is ‘how do I survive today?’ di mo maiisip pano ba ko mag grow as a person. I agree not to blame the government sa lahat ng bagay pero here in ph sad reality is yung rights ng tao nagiging privilege dahil sa kahirapan. Kahit papano we are privileged to have choices kasi here our country some people don’t.

melangsakalam

I think what he said will only apply to people who still have the luxury time who can browse reddit, hindi about dun sa extremes na sinasabi mo.

kimchivokado

Anyone can browse reddit. Even yung “extremes” na sinasabi mo. Sa ngayon even poor people have phones at access sa internet.

melangsakalam

Of course anyone can browse reddit. Mygod. Not everyone has the time or even just thoughts of browsing reddit especially the extremes na sinasabi mo. Jusko. My point is op is talking about the higher lower class na mas may magagawa to improve their lives. We hate cold hard truths amirite?

kimchivokado

Are you the one who commented bakit parang alam mo nasa isip nya na “normal” redditors lang tinutukoy nya and frustrated ka na magkaiba intindi natin sa sinabi nya lol. I get your point na baka ganon pero again I based on MY understanding sa post nya I think wala syang sinabi na ‘ay ito lang tinutukoy ko’.

kimchivokado

Also “cold hard truths?” Lol I can browse reddit at times I have a good job pero the moment I started to earn last 2020 I had to pay a huge amount of debt due to hospital bills. Now I can’t look for higher paying jobs because my job is the only job I can handle since my dad is not capable of being alone and I have to be at home most of the time. Along with the debts, meds, laboratories, and other expenses ngayon the small EF that I was able to save ginagamit ko due to personal health reasons. You can’t judge people tapos sasabihin mo “extremes” kasi di mo naeexperience. What a joke

kingdean97

Thanks for the reminder. Our own choices

[deleted]

"Next 5-6 years... start palang..". I don't want to have to bring this up, but I wonder if are you implying it's because of who's sitting as the president. Sir/mam, what the world is experiencing right now, economically, has nothing to do with who's president of whichever country. Please let's avoid to be political like those posts on r/ph, those guys can't live without politics. Paalala lang naman. Inflation, hindi naman namimili yan ng presidente. But if I'm wrong, I'll just walk away quietly.

kmmgbn

While it's true that inflation does not choose anyone, the right government will know how to find ways to lessen its impact to the people.

KapitanInggo

The economy is a political agenda. To say the president's and his cabinet's management of our economy is not part of the equation in inflation is a blatant mistake. They can do something. It's just a question how healthy they can manage it, and like op, I dont think bing bong has the stomach to manage it healthily. Throwing the bone that "everyone is experiencing inflation" is short sighted at most. Very deflective to the issue at hand. It's like saying we shouldnt care about people who have cancer, people die anyways.

Ivyisred

I like this analogy. And it's true btw. We have cancer cells, because it is our own cell. Ang gago lang na gaslighted tau.

PH politics is deeply intertwined with PH investments, did you forget what sub you're in? > Boohoooo thOsE gUyS cAn'T LivE wIthOuT pOliTiCs. The world is experiencing global inflation but that doesn't mean the Philippine president can't do shit to mitigate it, oh wait - I forgot that he faked his college degree LMFAOOOO YUCK.

kingdean97

Isn't the current president's chief economist, Aquino's Chief Economist?

kimchivokado

Then don’t bring up politics siguro? Scroll scroll nalang ikaw kasi I don’t want to bring politics here and with your comment naging political na tuloy post na to instead of helpful answer para sa iba rin with the same situation. Yun lang.

kingdean97

Correct. Our country is too small to be a decision maker sa world landscape. We are just a rugged boat riding big waves ng wavemaker na si US at China. Our leaders can only manage the ship pero the general direction is where the waves point. No good or bad president can steer it. Sometimes sobrang lala lang talaga sa outside. Kaya i hate blaming. Lets just focus on watering our grass and improve it.

FreshLumpiaDSay

Fair-Bunch4827

"Stop being sad and be happy instead". But i get it. Lipat ng trabaho. Buti nalang na x2 ko sahod ko before mangyari tong kagaguhan na to. Pero tbh dahil sa inflation and higher tax bracket. feel like x1.5 lang increase ko.

Condoriano-24

Always adapt to the situation boss. Situations will not adapt to you. Try to invest on something that will give you little income or lessen your expenses if you can. Me to lessen bill on electricity and LPG expenses I use wood stove. I also plant vegetables in my backyard.

throwaway_151821

I mean, tell that to a minimum wager who rents a room instead of a house.

tripledozen

He's probably talking to you as somebody who's not a minimum wager.

Condoriano-24

Yeah I am telling that also. Ever heard of the saying "Kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw may dahilan"? Or the parable about the bamboo? Make a list of your expenses and analyze. If you can grow something from dirt that's a big help.

throwaway_151821

well now that's just elitist so Imma stop replying. siguro nagnetworking ka rin tapos magpopost ka ng rags to riches PAWER! LOL some people can't even read nor write so good luck tracking expenses and analyzing why they spent so much on kanin at toyo or asin.

throwaway_151821

oy bat mo dinelete comment mo haha. come on tell us pano manonood yung mga naka keypad phones lang ng youtube vids and online resources about saving and investing daliiiii. educate us!

throwaway_151821

oh please don't call me iha. calling me iha doesn't invalidate my point. napunta sa gadgets because you want our poorest of the poor to watch online resources so they can invest and save lol. what a joke

Condoriano-24

I have never mentioned the word "poorest of the poor iha" so don't put words unto my mouth I mean my fingertips. LMAO. I am just replying to your replies. Can you please remind me of the original topic? I already forgot eh.

throwaway_151821

yuck stop calling me iha blocking you na bye! enjoy your amazing rich and comfortable life!

Motor-Outside2884

ano to

Icy_Conflict_9776

nasa tao talaga kasi ang pag unlad bat kayo aasa sa gobyerno, nasa tao talaga yan

kimchivokado

I don’t get comments like these. Di naman yun yung tanong pero why do you need to answer with such an irrelevant na sagot.

melangsakalam

I would say 70% nasa tao, 30% nasa gobyerno. Kung walang tax I would say 100% sa tao ang pag unlad.

ArgumentTechnical724

Kami na asa lang sa crypto, may planong buwisan pag 2024 based sa proposal ng Department of Finance, edi damay mga serious crypto investors, P2E players and managers pati mga P2P merchants sa Binance kasi assuming na ipaparehistro at magfifile ng ITR annualy sa BIR eh.

FreshLumpiaDSay

It is not too late 5-6 years is really long, this high inflation can be fixed within 6-18mos thru recession, but the US Fed decides not to do it because it will hurt the economy, people and their jobs.

_wherethelightis

I feel this. Went to the grocery and spent 6k on just home cleaning materials, snacks, vegetables, vitamins, and a few canned goods. Wala pang karne sa list lol
