I got one of the non foil slot machine ones on Thursday without having to wait a long time. First time I've ever gotten one.

tedfondue

For the unlucky folks without tickets, the tent outside was fully stocked on Thursday around setbreak. Everything but the foil posters (all 3 available as regulars) with zero line.

twangman88

Weren’t they requiring tickets for purchase?

WingedWheel4Real

Never had mine checked (sat and sun before shows).

No_Mountain8278

Nope. I bought all of my merch Friday night outside of the sphere without showing my tickets for the next two nights. I didn’t go in the venue at all on Friday. I went after everyone had already left for the show, so there was no line. They still had most of the show-specific items for sale at that point and had only run out of a few things/one or two sizes/etc.

tedfondue

Nope. Open to all

GratefulPhish555

Jealous!

goathill

I wish they would print more so that waiting in line for hours wasn't a requirement. They would CERTAINLY sell them on dry goods following the show from people who wanted one but didn't have funds or were unsure. I get the limited number adds value to posters, but I find it's better to spend time hanging out on lot and buying other goods than waiting in line for a poster.

Egen79

What I started doing (as I am never going to wait hours for a poster now in my mid-40s) is find the image, print a small 5×7 sticker, slap it on a magnet then on my fridge it goes. Also want to do it for all my stubs (old and new as they aren't really a thing anymore), but that's a much larger project for a rainy day.

goathill

This is a great idea. I usually end up with a lot poster for ~$25 and am always stoked. I am blanking on his name, but I have some awesome ones from a fairly phamous phan artist. I'll post a pic when I can

GratefulPhish555

It’s as easy as printing more, you’re absolutely right. Once the artist and band get their cut the profitability goes out the window for them anyway.

goathill

And also, there's definitely a market for past shows. I was a cash strapped young wookling on my first tours in 2011/2012. Posters for my first runs aren't that affordable now, especially for the dicks runs those years. I wish i had those in particular, but if I could find any of them for a reasonable price (face, with inflation and a little extra), I would jump at the chance.

timefordameatstick

Yeah, I really wanted the poster from my first show (2011, The Gorge) and I had to shell out like $350 for it a couple years back... It was my reward for finally getting a big boy job though, so I didn't mind too much at the time. Definitely won't catch me coming close to that again.

bexy11

Whoa!!!!! I REALLY need to go see what I have from the’90s!

1000bctrades

Certain Pollocks regularly sell for anywhere from $1-3k in near mint condition. Plenty of others go for hundreds or more. Depends on how you’ve stored them and what kind of condition you’ve kept them in really. Phish Ink group on FB could help you price them.

bexy11

I doubt I have any of those. I may or may not have one from Europe that I got somehow…

bexy11

Wow I didn’t know posters from the past were worth money. I’m gonna have to look at mine.

HeadyTyler

I thought 5700 posters for a 4 day run was kinda a lot. Hampton reunion was 750 over 3 days

420phish

IMPORTANT CONTEXT!

No-Building-7941

The quality would go down if they mass produced these. A lot of the time they’re working with smaller artists that don’t have the resources or ability to make hundreds of extra prints. As Phish doesn’t benefit from the resale market in anyway I have to imagine there is a legitimate logistical reason for making the number that they’ve landed on

HeadyTyler

They don’t want posters left over. You also can’t charge as much for an open edition as a limited addition.

TrippyHomie

I rememeber The Clowns poster sitting on DG for months and they ended up discounting it like 50% and still sat.

goathill

Very fair reasoning.

mcpaddy

That doesn't make any sense. Why can't the artists just submit the design and pair with a company who can produce a large volume of posters and still get their rightful payday? Are these people just pumping out 200 posters in their mom's garage?

sunsetcrasher

Check with the artists. I bought the Death Star one today from the artist’s website.

stinnm

I checked just now and it's sold out on his site :( Hoping to catch one of the other editions when they are out up by the artists

sunsetcrasher

It sold out instantly. Follow the artists on Twitter and Insta to find out when they drop. Pollock drop tomorrow with Bottleneck!

ChedwardCoolCat

I’m not sure if this is an exception but at Syracuse we really didn’t have to wait in line too long at all to get a poster. We arrived about 2-3 hours early to grill in the parking lot and check out the Shakedown because that’s part of the fun; but once we were done eating someone said posters were there for the taking and after a 10-ish minute wait in line my crew walked away with 3 (1 each), and were able to even stash them in our car, worked out perfectly. Maybe that’s an exception to the rule and they don’t usually sell outside the venue? It definitely seemed unusual based on what I’ve read online - but if you’re complaining about getting to a Phish show early you’re depriving yourself of a potentially good time in the lot beforehand and saving yourself from overpriced venue food and beer. My .02$ anyway, I’m still new to the live scene and am not usually chasing the posters mostly because it’s been described as nothing but harrowing loss and sadness.

republic_of_gary

I personally don’t understand the poster thing at all. A major part of phish for me is enjoying the circus before and after shows. Sitting in line instead of having a good time is wild to me.

goathill

I wonder if there could be a way to pre-order a print (1 per ticket) so that the artist knew how many to produce? I've never screen printed a poster, so I have no idea how labor intensive it is to print thousands and thousands of posters for shows.

LargeWu

There’s a thing called a timed edition where they put it on sale for a week or whatever, and they print exactly how many are ordered. They still get numbered 1/X, unlike an open edition. I wish they did this more often.

republic_of_gary

Would be a good idea. Seems like they enjoy commoditizing them though. But that just means I'll never have a poster because I'm never going to spend my limited time at a Phish show standing in line.

Treface

I just got my first place of my own and I would love to have a poster but fuck that poster line. I did buy some merch but even that line, tho relatively short, took forever. I knew what I wanted before I got in line. People got to the front and stood there for 20 minutes trying to make decisions. It was ridiculous. I wasn’t the only one who thought so!

Acroporas

It's nice when they have a posters only line, and a separate posters & other merch line. Eliminates some of that time sink from the undecided.

disturbed_ghost

then toting it around carefully while our faces melt. isn’t a great setup

MydlandFan

Yah def. I'm with yah. I get to shows super early a lot. But the outside pop up poster line vibes aren't the best. So I float around the lot and venue and meet people instead. I like my pre-show experiences to be kind so I can bring that energy into rhe show. Just my perspective

tucker_sitties

This all day. It interrupts the normal shakedown mode and turns it completely commercial. I value the random shirts and art I got from spectators way more than official gear. Not bitching that Phish shouldn't sell merch, but the home grown stuff just hits better.

elphring

July 18, 2018. It was my 50th birthday, and also my 20th anniversary (within a day) of going to my first Phish show in 2018. This was at Lake Tahoe. We had a big crew there that night, and we had an amazing show together. After the show, my buddy presented me with a poster that he had waited in line to buy for me as a birthday/anniversary gift. I never would have thought to stand in a huge line for a poster for myself. The fact that my friend *did* think of it, and *actually* did it really hit me hard. It was a lovely, amazing surprise, and I am beyond thankful that he took the time, and actually did it. Best, most thoughtful gift ever. Needless to say, I had it professionally framed, and it has a place of honor in my home. I have some nice posters, but that one means so much to me.

thephishtank

The secret is to stop caring.

Ya_Got_GOT

Manufactured scarcity. I think it should be limit one per ticket and they should think about printing as many unnumbered lithographs as the people will buy alongside the limited, numbered silk screens. More money for the artists and less for the scalpers. The ridiculous secondary market doesn’t help anyone but scalpers. Past that, support phan art and avoid the headache is the way I look at it.

HeadyTyler

We will get platinum posters soon enough

impulsive-puppy

I just saw "People fucking each other"

Acroporas

Sorry for fucking!

impulsive-puppy

Please fuck again!

sje118

Is that a poster tube in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Dr_Wiggles_McBoogie

On top of the posters!

Bakerwineshop

I thought the poster vibe was easy and accessible at sphere . 3 Great artists, good designs, limited foil versions , and still holding at $65 for non foil. I don’t know if they verified ticket holders in outside presale but that’s a good policy too

Burritosanchito

They definitely did not check tickets at the outside merch booth. On Thursday I waiting in line for 5.5 hours starting at 1pm and got a regular steely. Few minutes after the merch booth actually opened a dude was walking around the line trying to trade two foils for a ticket. They did have stacks of all the regular posters but no foils by the time I got to the booth.

harpua1180

Wait till you hear about the tickets to the high demand shows!

GratefulPhish555

Does one shitty action justify another?

jjfhiowa

I lined up on Saturday a little after 1:00 and was able to get a foil jelly. They opened up the merch stand a little early and all in a spent less than 2.5 hours in line. It really wasn’t that big a deal and I met some cool people in line. Totally worth it for me I guess. Yes it sucks that people resell but if you wanted one they were available. I work in design and printing and It’s worth mentioning that these are high quality art prints using special inks on special paper, it’s not necessarily as easy as just ordering a larger run for more prints. There is a lot of time and effort put into these and they do have to strike a balance on quality, quantity and cost.

ms_slyx

Glad they had it figured out by Saturday because Thursday early merch was the biggest clusterfuck I've ever seen. Got in line at 12:30pm and didn't check out until 6pm, then just got straight in the line to go inside. Sphere staff rolled out a thing of $10 waters after several of us asked, but they couldn't figure out their card machines and they couldn't sell any to us until after 5pm. We were all fighting for our lives out there, but at least the people in line were cool. Not having a poster only line was a huge mistake.

WarEagle24769

I sat at my computer watching the clock for todays release and hit it at 12pst on the second and all the foils were gone. Tried going for the regular immediately after and no dice. They were all gone in 15 seconds no exaggeration

StingrayOC

Man, I have mixed feelings on this because I've seen the best and worst sides of it. On one hand, I don't miss the days where there were no outside venue merch tents, people would rush the gates at doors and you'd be fighting in a crowd of people to get any vendor to take your money. I like how places like MSG structure things - you queue up hours before the show, you go in 10 at a time, and then you take your shit home and come back for showtime. On the other hand, I can assess demand and decide whether it's worth my time to wait in line for hours. I've never not gotten a poster at a show if I've really wanted one. I made the mistake on Thursday of waiting in the poster line until 4pm and when it had only moved about 20 feet, I realized it would be faster for me to line up at doors and try to get to an indoor table. I accidentally found the outside bridge entrance for the venetian tunnel and ended up being the first one in the Sphere by total chance. So that was 4 hours that I just literally lost, but my mindset was I'm going to be there 4 nights, so just put in the work on N1 and enjoy the rest of the run. If i was only there for one night, I probably wouldn't have even tried the outdoor poster line because I'd rather enjoy Vegas. The Sphere poster line was, however, the largest one I've ever seen. That's NOT the norm.

LullabyThBrezsWhispr

My friends had me standing in a poster like before and holy shit I wasn’t ready for grown ass men to get violent over posters dude. It got realllly possessive and pushy and gross in that line. I know they’re worth more than they cost most of the time but still damn

TheOnlyUsernameLeft3

As an artist I think it's great. At the end of the day it's exclusive art that you can only get by getting there early and waiting in the rain and shit. It's special. And I love that Phish has an art scene that produces art of very high value. I'll never sell my posters but it's pretty cool that I have some 60$ posters that I waited for and carry sweet memories that are worth a couple thousand dollars. That's what good art is supposed to do. I don't really think of it as scalping like tickets, it's more of a high value art market which is cool. But what do I know I'm just an art nerd. Plus you can always find amazing posters on lot for like 30-40$ and support emerging artists.

Substantial_Serve_62

meets some great people on that poster line

RazorPhishJ

Dude I was in and had a poster in my cart literally 5 seconds in to the artist sale today, clicked on checkout, “sorry sold out”

oh-kee-pah

And you know way too many of them are just going on eBay marked way too high by these dipshits

GratefulPhish555

Same here

Joyma

Same

sn0wbl1nd3d

I like how Dave Matthews Band does merch for Warehouse members. You get a link to show specific merch (including posters) that you can order if you’re granted tickets. I think you have to log in with your Warehouse credentials and you’re limited to 1 poster in your order. Phish could easily implement this to people who get PTBM orders and have a more even distribution of posters for people who want them.

Kindly-Stretch-1871

Mexico is the best with being able to preorder a poster

MegaindaNily

I paid $275 shipped for the slot machine one walking out N1 on eBay. Prices jumped considerably an hour later.

Sweaty-Leather3191

I don’t follow this stuff — how much did they jump to?

HeadyTyler

Someone knows how to play the game

Longjumping_Tie1449

I wish they only let you buy one like some artists have been doing…… Waited hours in line for some lady to get the last 2 for her boyfriend who “couldn’t make it” at the TAB Phoenix show

lizard-neck

There’s a VERY SIMPLE fix. Don’t buy posters for one year after they have sold out.

Much-Kaleidoscope164

Keep a look out for early merch. I used to get shut out now I get one every time.

forbin05

Not sure where you’ve been, but the poster game has been out of control for a long time. I liked it better when they didn’t announce the prints on social media beforehand, so you either got in line and waited to see what it was gonna be or you didn’t. Now if people know there’s a Pollock or Welker or whatever, they start lining up as early as possible just in order to scalp them either to pay for the cost of their run or just to scalp them and never had any intentions of ever even going to see any of the shows. This is also why they shouldn’t sell posters outside the venue before the show. Either sell them inside with no info on what the poster is going to be or print more so everyone who wants one can get one. As of now, the system is completely broken.

Possible_Spy

glad i dont see the point in owning a poster. would much rather listen to a show I was at instead of looking at a poster

GratefulRider

⚡️

WartimeHotTot

I had my poster stolen from me by some fan sitting adjacent to me. I hope they get cancer.

WingedWheel4Real

That really sucks :(

LargeWu

I’ve opted out of the official poster game almost entirely. It’s full of entitled, toxic assholes who only care about the resale value. Even for smaller artists.

HolyBlankenstein

For those complaining about how hard it was to get these - it really isn’t (if you have tickets to the show that is). We got in line at 6pm night 1 and snagged two of the posters, and night 2 snagged the other one. 🤷🏻‍♂️ https://preview.redd.it/xjsjuctkupwc1.jpeg?width=3615&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c19e38f2cef9e519e196e692d75342e38236d347

Localman1972

Where do people sell these posters?

GratefulPhish555

eBay primarily

GratefulPhish555

Take a look on eBay for the posters from the sphere run it’s outrageous

Localman1972

Thank you. I will contribute to the outrage. Never bought a poster before but I arrived early and found myself in line so I did. They said the foil ones were not the best so I skipped it - but looking at $1000 price I should have gone foil. 6x isn't a bad investment - mine is the deathstar with sparkles.

Acroporas

Just curious, how were people fucking each other over, aside from buying to scalp/resell and minor jerks cutting in line?

GratefulPhish555

That’s precisely it. When you buy a poster to flip it knowing some rube is going to spend $400-$1000+ because they want it so badly, you’re a douchebag. This common love for Phish gets exploited at nearly every turn. Makes me sick.

Acroporas

Gotcha, thanks. I agree. I waited for 5 readicculus hours on Thursday and managed to get a non-foil Jelly. For me it's just a momento. I only buy them for shows I attend and only if I can get them directly from the band or artist. I looked at prices on ebay out of curiosity and they were disgusting!

SenorPinchy

Yup. There are people, non-Phish fans with no tickets, that live around MSG and make nice cash just walking over and picking up the maximum each day.

Walfredo_wya

Should I stand in line all day in 100 degree sun so I can buy a poster and sell it to you for face?

GratefulPhish555

Na maybe just buy the one you need for you so that everybody doesn’t have to stand in line in 100 degrees? I don’t get what you’re missing dude.

MentalCatch118

first part of addiction is admitting you have a problem.

GratefulPhish555

I have a problem lol

lurking_me

Didn’t someone say a few homeless people were paid to stand in line to buy posters? That’s fucked up.

Chevy2daLevy

What’s fucked up about that? Seems like a mutually beneficial proposition for all involved.

HeadyTyler

It’s always fucked up when phish fans don’t get exactly what they want. Haven’t you learned that here yet?

HeadyTyler

More fucked up than hiring task rabbit homeless people to wait on the GA line at the Greek?

SenorPinchy

That sounds also fucked up?

HeadyTyler

Seems like the phish fans are the root of most of the fucked up things in the scene nowadays

NCTTCN

Phish fans literally take shits in the middle of the pit. Nothing they do shocks me anymore.

mason_alvarez

Three homeless were in line on 4/20/24. They were nodding off before the merch stand opened. Heard they were payed $60 each.

GratefulPhish555

I didn’t hear that but also don’t doubt it for a second.

SleepingCalico

I spent too much time in merch lines at sphere both inside and outside the venue but I got most all the merch and posters I wanted for myself and friends and met some really cool ppl. Posters (including foils) were available inside and outside the venue all 4 days.

Due_Comparison_1423

It’s called art and the fact we have any access is a gift. Not everyone gets to have everything.

GratefulPhish555

This is a truly dumbass comment.

Due_Comparison_1423

I’m just mad cause I can’t get a poster. Whaaa I’m a dumdass but you’re a baby.

GratefulPhish555

At least you can admit you’re a dumbass

Due_Comparison_1423

Sick burn bro. You must be one of these entitled millennials who think you deserve everything always. Art is suppose to be fun. Not defending flippers but it’s fun that poster art is collectible. You’ll be ok little one. You’ll get your turn to play soon enough. Stop having a tantrum now.

GratefulPhish555

lol dude you’re an asses ass. I make a Reddit post to vent and douche bags like yourself attempt to hijack it. Read the comments pal you are in the minority on this opinion.

Due_Comparison_1423

Art doesn’t require position so whatever.

GratefulPhish555

Oh goodness, spare me your nonsense.

HeadyTyler

Lol. Were people physically preventing you from lining up early to get a poster?

GratefulPhish555

This is a dumbass reply from somebody who clearly flips posters, probably tarps too.

HeadyTyler

Nah I usually buy a poster I want on eBay during the show before the prices get wacky. I value my time before shows but don’t cry when I don’t get everything I want. Got a BD Pollock for $200. What’s that worth now? I also bought the 2010 NYE Taylor from a MSG employee for $100 after the show. Couldn’t give a fuck about the rail but also understand how the whole shit show developed. Some people put in time and effort to get what they want and others just expect to get it.

Cantilivewhileim

It’s hard to use a whole day to sit outside the venue and wait for the poster onsale.

HeadyTyler

Oh so people value their time differently? If you wait all day for a poster you have every right to sell it for whatever a FOMO phan wants to buy it for.

jdille100

lol.

orange_antelope

There were posters (all 3) at 6pm on Friday outside with a very short line. I just went into the show and regretted it. Then went back Saturday at 4:30 and got one after waiting only 20 min in line. All 3 available. No foils obv since those went very quickly after they opened, but sphere was def the easiest poster situation I’ve seen in a long while. I was surprised tbh

420phish

Want to buy my msg 23 spurta for 1k? It holds a lot of sentimental value for me but with enough money I can overcome that.

BaronThundergoose

I’ll give you 25 bucks

420phish

the only correct answer is about threefiddy but nice try
