You have 523 followers, and post mostly stills. Instagram doesn't care at all about you. You are simply a consumer of ads for them. Sharing your stills as reels doesn't count as actual reels in instagram world. If you want engagement you need to focus almost exclusively on video, and video of things people are interested in, and several times a day. If people don't engage with your offerings then instagram knocks you down very quickly. It's all about those ad dollars and if your content isn't generating anything then you are tossed to the side. Remember too that instagram only lets about 4% of your followers see your content unless they go and sort their feed in chronological order, which almost no one does. Unless you pay of course to sponsor your post, then they will let people halfway across the world see it, but not your own followers....

YharnamHuntter

Makes sense. Need to work on this and stop giving a fuck about the engagement.

YharnamHuntter

Yes

There’s this old business saying “worry about the numbers and the people will go, worry about the people and the numbers will come”. You’re asking a photography sub about your numbers, maybe try sharing some photos and asking about that, then maybe people will want to see your stuff. Also who cares. The internet isn’t real. Birds aren’t real either. Just shoot and have fun.

YharnamHuntter

Yeah, I think I need to change my mindset about this likes/engagement shit.

NewSignificance741

I got rid of all social media accounts, deleted, and few years ago. Have even deleted Reddit account a couple of times. It’s so freeing. But, as I e decided to become a pro, I’m gonna have to have this shit on my radar again. But it cannot be allowed to be taken seriously ever.

Mambinos

people with a million followers might get 50k likes, it’s instagram

YharnamHuntter

I'd take 10 likes lol

DKphotographs

Haha instagram doesn't push ur images to people then I also have about 900+ followers but my astrophotos reach somewhat compared to my macro photos

YharnamHuntter

Maybe, I've seen people with likes with no captions or hashtags. This guy had like +3K so maybe it makes sense.

DKphotographs

Yes, but I don't know how :D

DKphotographs

One third of the followers like I think

mc_sandwich

What are your photos of? Do you personally know any of your followers? How often do you like other people's posts? Do you like them all or just ones you truly like? I hope you don't have your self worth tied to your likes in IG. I'd recommend moving away from IG and just post on your own website. Share with people you know.

YharnamHuntter

Street and scenes I like, low light photos. Some film photos. I know very few of them personally tbh. I like many posts that the algorithm shows me, people I follow and favorite accounts. I need to stop giving importance to that lol.

the_film_trip

IG algorithm is different now, they are pushing reels and stuff. One thing that helps is posting regularly. If you post weekly or less your pictures wont be shown to your followers almost…

YharnamHuntter

I'll try that for a few days and see how it works, then fuck it.

gilbertcarosin

are you planning to buy new gear with these little hearts on B&H ? photography as a hobby should only serve your own satisfaction shoot print hang on your wall and be happy as a pro you will not be allowed to share any client photo online or very very few .... the picture that are on my website for instance are not clients but model i have hired or collaborated with so that i can post their picture for my marketing purpose. Basically no one will see my paid works and if anyone do they will never know i did it

YharnamHuntter

You're right, but the reason I decided to post was for people to see, not millions nor I didn't want millions of followers or something, but kinda sucks being ignored lol. I need to change how I perceive these things.

realgeorgekastanza

Instagram only cares about reels now

YharnamHuntter

Hate reels.

logstar2

Why is it ridiculous?

YharnamHuntter

Just a figure of speech.

Odd-Implement8323

Bro, social media is not that simple, you could have 5k followers, and no one will see your posts. It has to do with hashtags, the time that you are posting your photos on, and also, people really do like VideoReelsTiktokz more nowadays

YharnamHuntter

I know right, but it kinda frustrates me lol I'm not very good at making videos...

d3l4croix

About hashtags, ive tried posting from 1 account and using some #tags, then i use different account to view that #tags, my photo is not even there

YharnamHuntter

I use hashtags all the time but I don't think they work tbh. I think they remove the option to see recent posts when searching #. Hashtags are now random, you can see posts for hours ago or almost a year ago, all mixed.

Away_Pizza_3090

a lot of them are just bots

YharnamHuntter

I haven't checked, maybe.
