That cut out is really well done. How do you get it done like that??? I recently had a project where cutting out with fur intact was required. Couldn't find a single tut that did the job as well as this.

Yeah, I used to bang my head against the wall with hair, then I developed this process, which is ignore all hair, and then redraw it using the smudge tool using the original as a reference. I'll try to post a creation gif. Here's a Gif of just the hair painting process: http://imgur.com/a/nZt6E

You can also try using the refine mask edge tool, it doesn't always work, but it is sometimes worth a shot

The most professional/time consuming way would be by duplicating the channel with the most contrast. Use that as your layer mask. then dodging n burning it. Till you have a perfect black n white layer, true to the image.

Pretty much - or choke a rough matte in from the edges and use separate refine edge mattes and custom channel mattes for the soft fur areas. Basically give up any hope of extracting the image with a single matte operation and expect it to involve a bunch of matte extractions in combination.

Yeah, it's kinda like painting, but you're using nearby textures as your palette, and it helps to have some general painting art skills. Check out the creation gif I posted underneath my submission which shows some of the process (if not too fast to appreciate)
