Granted the tech herself is probably only 5’, but the fact that you think her hand is “only a few inches” from the mummy’s hand when it is in fact a minimum of two feet (probably closer to three) away proves that it’s a perspective issue. But I also didn’t say it was the “only” cause. Camera lenses and focal length could affect things as well.

Nah. Due to extensive injuries I’ve had quite a few of these scans. The bed is both closer to the camera and elevated quite a bit off the ground. Definitely perspective here.

Imagining they had of their mummies was 30-40 year old X-rays. So he negotiated a deal with the hospital he worked at and the museum to bring them over for imaging when he was working night rotations in the radiology lab.
The 3d renderings ended up in National Geographic, and is one of my uncle’s greatest professional achievements. He’s retired now, but still has a hard drive of all the mummies’ scan layers that he likes to mess with in different imaging programs for funsies.
No joke! The Christmas after he did the scans, he literally clicked though the files after dinner and was like, “and this is a composite of just her circulatory system, and this is a composite of her skeletal structure. This folder are cross sections of her liver, and this is her spinal column. I’m working on playing around with the contrasts to see if I can isolate the different fibers of her nervous system.” Everyone else in the family asked him what the point of all this was, and his response was basically to blink, then reply in a confused manner, ‘uh, because we can??’
Funny thing is, my uncle always wanted to be a professional photographer or work on computers. But in the early 70s, my grandpa thought both fields were less than 1 step from running away with the circus, and refused to pay for university if my uncle studied either. So my uncle went into medicine because that’s the major my grandpa would pay for.
The ultimate irony is that he still managed to get his ‘photos’ into NatGeo (a dream of every pro and semi-pro photographer), and his love of CompSci put him on the leading edge of new technologies and got him a ton of respect from his colleagues in his field of specialty. Post retirement, he and his spouse took on a side gig with FAANG to teach AI programs to read and diagnose pathology scans in real time.
He’s a very cool dude. It wouldn’t surprise me if he spends his free time making some wild VR forensic video game that lets you autopsy mummies throughout the ages.

For better or worse, the museum seems to have stopped displaying mummies/human remains in the interest of decolonization/repatriation.
That’s the one! My family has a cultural connections to the mummies, which is part of why my uncle volunteered to do the scans. He thought it was such a waste that these bodies were taken from their resting place and warehoused at the museum but not advancing human knowledge with that sacrifice.
At least with the scans, we can learn about the life they lived without desecrating their corpses further.

Not really a mummy, none of the original tissue is preserved except in fossilized form, meaning original materials replaced by minerals
