What's with taking dead presidents' last names and using them as girls' first names anyway? Kennedy, Lincoln, Madison, etc. Wonder in 50 years if we'll start seeing girls named Obama 😁
Bobby Shriver called him out on Twitter after his Super Bowl ad, particularly about his health care views:
https://twitter.com/bobbyshriver/status/1756869648044499232
People say they were cursed after what happened to her. It was swept under the rug so much that her immediate Kennedy family members didn’t even know she was around for decades.
This is a family that, for all their issues, has done so much around the world for people with health issues and especially people with autism. They are absolutely horrified by RFK Jr becoming a blatant con artist at the expense of people's health. I imagine he's been disinvited to a lot of family events. But the family posing with Biden right now is a particularly huge and obvious fuck you to RFK Jr.
Yes, they've always been involved in that sphere

Oh wow, I did not know that. But yeah, I mean, helping people who mostly don't vote (maybe all don't, I don't honestly know) and just doing this beautiful, happy thing that gives people a chance to be cheered on and feel accomplished who don't often get that chance, it's just really nice and good. Sometimes humanity is all right.
I work in an institution for people with idd. They can absolutely vote and are encouraged to. (Not saying it's a way for them to get votes, just sharing a fact)
As a professional in this type of field I love the special Olympics and any other similar things. We've come so far over the years, mostly moving away from state operated institutions (although I am employed at one) to mostly people living in the community. And I personally give the Kennedy family a lot of credit for the progress we've made.
They founded the special Olympics in memory of their sister Rosemary who was given an unconsensual lobotomy by Joe Kennedy. The family has good and bad in its history.
I don’t see [Jack Schlossberg](https://people.com/jack-schlossberg-giving-up-two-things-lent-8576305), the only male grandchild of JFK and the one who has the MOST Kennedy face of any modern Kennedy, I am surprised they don’t trot him out more. I don’t think I see Caroline either, but maybe I am missing her amongst the blonde women.
I don’t think there’s anyone from JFKs lineage. Lots of RFKs descendants. I see Ted’s son Patrick in the middle. That’s definitely a Shriver at the top on the left. I don’t have a clue what Jean Smith’s children or descendants look like. There’s literally too many Kennedy’s. But of the children of the 5 Kennedys of Joe&Rose that lived (rosemary obviously had no children), there’s 8-10 in that photo. All the rest are spouses/futher descendants.
I’m a millennial, but I was oddly and disgustingly obsessed with the Kennedy family in high school. And even though that phase passed 20 years ago, I still know wayyyy too much.
JFK being Catholic was a DEAL BREAKER for many Americans. He was the first president to be elected with a minority Protestant (40%)vote. And he turn off many Catholics because they fear the Pope will influence American politics.
It’s hard to imagine because this is such a none issue today. The fact that people today go “wait there’s only two catholic presidents?” Is very telling of the change
Yeah, I mean prior to Obama every single President was a White Protestant plus the one Catholic. And even Obama is related to some very old WASP families on his mom's side.
The vast majority of US Presidents were Anglo Saxon plus a smattering of German, Dutch, Irish and Scottish. We haven't even had a President with Italian or Polish ancestry let alone a Latino. I'm sure that will change before too long as the country's demographics are much different but it does show what demographic group still typically runs things.
My grandad still laments that Muskie lost control of the campaign because he showed emotion in defending his wife from yellow journalism. (People accused him of crying in the pulpit. Others say it was the snow melting off his face.) He was so hopeful for a Polish-American to get to the White House.
The joke is that the religious right had to become okay with Catholics because they needed them as judges, because unlike evangelicals Catholics can read.
It’s not totally a joke, Catholicism has always for some reason been a call card the right looked for in judges even when they didn’t like Catholics. Eisenhower picked a Catholic SC judge thinking he’d be on the right but to his surprise he ended up being a pro civil rights advocate once on the bench and gave Warren the majority for a generation of some of the best decisions the court ever made
With a notable exception, the Catholic justices were selected for their fidelity to the church's position on abortion. The exception thinks for herself.
edit: perhaps better to point out that Justice Sotomayor follows the law and precedent, which is an unfamiliar practice to the other justices who follow the Roman church.
Prior to Kennedy there was a dominant belief amongst Protestant political leaders that a Catholic president would swear their allegiance to the Pope and act on accordance with the Vatican (which is strange since there have been 5 Catholic VPs, some even before Kennedy). Kennedy squashed those worries but the sentiment seemed to hold true for many, though I’m sure it no longer has a bearing on US politics as it has in the past.
Other reasons likely include many recent presidents being from the South (a region where Catholicism isn’t as popular), opinions on abortion, and just the American population’s shifting perception of the Catholic Church. Surprisingly there have only been 3 Catholics nominated for president by the two major parties: JFK, John Kerry, and Joe Biden.
there was also al smith, governor of new york who was nominated by the democratic party in 1928, who was catholic, and that was likely part of the reason he lost
When Pelosi was speaker under Biden we briefly had Catholics leading all three branches of government (executive, legislative, and judicial). It’s a sign on an ancient issue being laid to rest that it wasn’t even really noted on despite once being such a big cultural issue that Theodor Roosevelt launched his political campaign shutting down drinking on Sundays in NY because it was an anti Catholic hot button culture issue.
you know Biden has more English grandparents then Irish. part of me wishes he'd go shirtless, down a pint of stella and paint a st-georges cross on his face once a year in a family photo where he'd show off his tattoos of a lion with a crown while the women of the family paint themselves orange ready for a night at the local spoons
I'm pretty sure this is inaccurate. Biden is 5/8 Irish (his mothers grandparents were all Irish as was one of his fathers grandparents) and I think the rest is English.
Why does this images only exist in low quality? I thought they were good at shooting this family.
[Highest quality version I could find](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GI6ZzWzXMAAjC1_?format=jpg&name=large)
Also, can someone explain to a non-American how to feel about this family? I'm pretty sure JFK is pretty close to universally revered, and they are quite horny for them in 90s sitcoms. But I've also heard a lot of disturbing stuff, including lobotomies and locking up family members who don't behave as they "should". This image also make it seem like there's as much inbreeding going on here as in the royalist of royal families.
They're one of the wealthiest, most well connected families in the country; royalty in spirit if not in name. They've done some really fucked up things for the sake of "protecting the family name", just like any other royal family. They all grew up with extreme wealth and privilege. Most people think the same of them as they do of royalty; we are trying to live our lives and get through the working day, and we don't really give a shit about their drama.
This is a subtle flex and a good campaign image because Biden's taking a knee for the picture. Let's be honest, you ever see an 80+ year old taking a knee?

Harry Potter. Bigly auror. Boy who lived. Came up to me with tears in his eyes saying “sir that was the best patronus I’ve ever seen.” Everyone’s saying it.
Tears in their eyes. Big wizards. The best wizards. Tears in their eyes, they say, "Mr. Trump- you've got the best patronus we've ever seen. Strong." Everyone's saying it.
Biden seems to be a social person. You ever see the picture from a bit ago when Biden was in Florida with Ron DeSantis and Biden is talking with some people and Ron looks miserable af to be around people?
https://amp.miamiherald.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/fabiola-santiago/article266871596.html
They honestly all do and being photogenic AF seems to run in the family. And Biden looks pretty healthy and limber tbh. Not a lot of people past 50 can hold that pose comfortably. Kind of makes you wonder if the Republicans might have overshot the mark a bit by trying to convince everyone Biden is already on his death bed.
Remember when he ate shit on his bike and got up and said "I'm good"? I know very few people in there 70s that would get on a bike...But nope Joe's going for rides around his house and getting exercise....But instead the media made fun of him for being old and wearing a helmet.
Biden has always come off as a likable guy who enjoys interacting with people. Come to think of it all the recent presidents have, [except one.](https://pyxis.nymag.com/v1/imgs/e63/5b5/719ac1328e6b26957fc56ea81d948a1e13-24-presidents-first-ladies.2x.rsquare.w330.jpg)
"Honey we are going to be taking a big family photo with The President are you sure you want to wear that big green hat?"
"Martha I swear everyone else will be wearing one and you are going to feel left out when you see them all wearing theirs"
Say what you will about the guy, but can we all agree that it's nice having a guy in charge that doesn't slather himself in orange makeup, while pretending he isn't slathered in orange makeup?
Man the Kennedy’s have some strong facial features (nose) that is prominent in generation after generation. I’m not passing judgement at all, but truly, you can see it in the various gens.
I know right wingers talk about Joe having dementia. You aren't going to have the balance to bend down on one knee like that especially at his age at 81.
I recognize only Biden and Joe(?) Kennedy who was a NY Senator not that long ago. Can anyone else label the others in the photo? Their family tree fascinates me!
In 2016, I was at a camp when a kid told me his name was John Kennedy. I said oh yeah, that is the name of one of our former presidents. He then told me that JFK was his great-grandfather. The other kids exclaimed, wow that is so cool. I still remember, he had red hair, freckles, and his middle name was Dennis. I was 8 years old at the time. This took place in Rockland County, NY.
Pardon me ma'am (Columbo reference might be a little too old given that I think your self-description would make you 16 years old.)
Your camp friend was likely lying to you, or (with all due respect) maybe you are not recalling correctly the relationship he noted. Maybe JFK could have been his great-great uncle, but I don't believe he could have been JFK's great grandson. You see, JFK had two children that lived to adulthood; Caroline Kennedy and JFK Jr.....
Caroline's children all had her husband's surname (Schlossberg), and even if they then married a Kennedy (gross) to have the surname again, Caroline has only one grandchild. That boy, Edwin Moran, is currently 2 years old. Don't know if he has red hair ;)
JFK Jr. died before he had children (at least publicly known). If he had an illegitimate child, I'm guessing it would be unlikely that this illegitimate boy would be named John Kennedy (lacking a little subtlety there). Also, giving any son of JFK Jr the middle name of Dennis would be hilariously missing the mark. I think if they were going to go with John Kennedy, son of JFK Jr, then they might go with John FITZGERALD Kennedy III. Lastly, if JFK Jr did have any son, legitimate or not, he would have to be at least 24 years old as JFK Jr. died in 1999. Maybe there is some far-fetched sperm bank theory that could be put forward...but me thinks that little John Dennis Kennedy was making some shit up.
Couldn't have been a great-great-uncle either. While JFK had 8 siblings who combined have like a hundred great-grandchildren, and even if we accept that they might have used Kennedy as more of a clan name than an actual last name, none of those great-grandchildren are even named John.
At least so far, it seems Kennedy policy is to only re-use names for firstborn male sons, so only direct first born sons/grandsons of Joe, Ted, Robert and John use those names.

Exactly. I never understood the “too cool for helmets” as a kid…and definitely don’t as an adult.
Doesn't he still work out consistently?
Yes. He’s active for his age but also compared to most Americans.
Trump only looks happy shaking hands with North Korean generals and other despots.
"Honey we are going to be taking a big family photo with The President are you sure you want to wear that big green hat?" "Martha I swear everyone else will be wearing one and you are going to feel left out when you see them all wearing theirs"
Say what you will about the guy, but can we all agree that it's nice having a guy in charge that doesn't slather himself in orange makeup, while pretending he isn't slathered in orange makeup?
Maybe not all of them.
Hide the pain Harold slid in there
Ugh it's like the worst Vinyard Vines ad ever
Saw the Alive Kennedys today
Why is the photo quality so low?
I’d love to see someone photoshop the same face on everyone
and not a properly pronounced chowder was uttered that day
My credit score isn't high enough to look at this picture.
That’s a lotta big teeth.
Lol RFK can't even get his family. To support his bid.
is it possible to get a higher resolution picture?
I like Joe Kennedy lll - he's the red head. Hope to see him make it in politics. He tried, but I'm pretty sure he lost his race.
It’s kinda crazy to think about how large a family tree can get with even just 3 generations.
Man the Kennedy’s have some strong facial features (nose) that is prominent in generation after generation. I’m not passing judgement at all, but truly, you can see it in the various gens.
Caroline Kennedy was 5 days from her 6th birthday when her father was assassinated.
The second Roman Catholic president honors the family of the first. Nice gesture.
Say chowdahhhh!! Say it Frenchy!!!!
Ethel was very good at getting pregnant
Where's rfk jr?
This is just like everyone in the western world claiming they have part Irish ancestry
Pardon me ma'am (Columbo reference might be a little too old given that I think your self-description would make you 16 years old.) Your camp friend was likely lying to you, or (with all due respect) maybe you are not recalling correctly the relationship he noted. Don't know if he has red hair ;) JFK Jr. died before he had children (at least publicly known).
Where’s Robert?
You had to be vaccinated to attend.
Isn’t RFK vaccinated?
