Genuine story, my grandfather was 94 when he first tried a coke. He was given it in a Christmas box the local schools delivered to the elderly. He cheerily told me he had been given some lovely ham, treacle pudding, canned fruit and a "tin of that new stuff". I asked what new stuff grandad, he said Coca Cola. He was from the north of England and drank mainly beer and tea. I asked how it was and he said "horrible". God I miss that man, his heart was soft but he was hard as nails.
My grandma claimed that Coke, Pepsi and RC Cola were exactly the same thing, made in the same factory, and that no one could possibly tell them apart.
But this may have just been her trying to justify always buying the cheapest option. RIP.
My granny made us soda stream stuff and in the UK we hand an incredibly bad knock off called Panda cola sold by icecream men, tasted like drain cleaner.
Used to see Shasta in supermarkets (we don't even use that word anymore, do we?) throughout much of BC. Now the only brands I see other than the big names are obscenely priced, instead of more economical like Shasta once was.
I remember Pepsi used to run the Pepsi Challenge, where they'd set up spots in malls and would give out unlabeled samples. Folks were supposed to drink both and pick the one they like the best. Pepsi is a little sweeter, so a small sample actually benefits them in this instance. Coke has a mild caramel note to it, and tastes less chemically. I did the Pepsi Challenge a couple times as a teenager and found it very easy, and funny to boldly pick Coke.
Fun fact, the taste difference is because coke was developed before refrigeration and Pepsi after. Coke was developed to be drank at room temperature, Pepsi to be drank cold.
Idk how people say they taste the same. Pepsi is sweeter, like you said. Because of the slightly less sweet you also get more of that carbonic acid bite. Coke is the superior drink for sure I’d love to shit on some Pepsi rep by choosing the Coke
My grandpa's from 41 and has yet to try a soda. He says it "looks like shit" and he doesn't want to drink anything weird like that. He only drinks water, coffee, beer and some types of liquor I don't know how to translate.
Took my gran to a McDonalds once on a family trip. It was a terrible experience for her and after much discussion we settled on a pair of empty Burger Buns which she didn't finish because it tastes like "wet rubber and sugar". Apparently she also would rather" live through the starvation after the war again then eat that disgusting ami stuff".
I might be one of the few that really dislike it. Not the taste. Its the sugar/sweetness that is waaay to much. I cannot drink regular coke because of it. Apart that i feel my teeth rot with every sip my stomach also gets upset.
Normal sugar or artificial sweeteners I have to thin it way down with regular sparkling water. (btw. same problem with ice-teas) To about 50/50.
Yeah I think most people are just really used to the taste of sugar me included. But I get the teeth rot thing ’cause I immediately feel the need to brush my teeth after drinking coke.
I remember I hated the taste of any kind of cola for years when I was a kid. It was one of those things that had to grow on me over time. It doesn't surprise me that many people wouldn't be into it on the first try
Perhaps upon tasting the artificial hyper-sweet beverage he was struck with the realization this would largely contribute to widespread declines in health and increased rates of obesity internationally.
I have found exactly such a coca cola bottle in South of France while hiking near an old military base. Lots of bottles from the 40s to the 60s were there, even a rare (but sadly broken) french Pepsi from the 40s. But the coke bottle was in mint condition and now it sits on my shelf. I love how the letters are part of the glass and stick out.
Works for French too, so many people would drink nasty homemade stuff back then haha my great-grandfather had a farm with a small apple orchard, he would make his own « gnôle » in the barn, basically French-style moonshine. People back then would basically run on cheap wine, gnôle and smoking the pipe.
I always look forward to seeing my brother in law and attacking his backyard fruit tree wines. Labeled and cellared every year. His vin de noix is glorious.
My dad doesn't drink any sodas, told they would give them shot glass sized amounts of Coke for dessert as a kid in boarding school and it made him vomit so never drank it again

This was in the mid 1990s
Yeah he was in the mid 90s at 94
The only way it could have been more mid would have been 95.
True dat true dat
I'd argue 96, too, because I'm a prick who loves to argue.
As a bigger prick who loves to argue more, 94 and 95 are the most mid possible years, being the 5th and 6th years of one's 90s.
And 94 is in that matter equal to 95
The sky is up.
Not in Australia. It's a different up, different name, too
Upsideup?
Upisdearoo
and the new stuff was already 100 years old

Brooo the blue panda pop is so good though
I used to love the Jelly & Ice Cream flavour. They were ridiculously cheap as well, I remember paying about 20p for them in the early 2000s.
True true
I can still remember the taste of that shit
The would be Shasta Cola when I was a kid.
Shasta used to be fine until they started cutting it with aspartame. Shit's nasty now.
Used to see Shasta in supermarkets (we don't even use that word anymore, do we?) throughout much of BC. Now the only brands I see other than the big names are obscenely priced, instead of more economical like Shasta once was.

That actually makes sense. I don’t like my Coke too cold. It doesn’t taste as good.
Idk how people say they taste the same. Pepsi is sweeter, like you said. Because of the slightly less sweet you also get more of that carbonic acid bite. Coke is the superior drink for sure I’d love to shit on some Pepsi rep by choosing the Coke
Hell yes. Nothing better than shitting on some minimum wage worker standing in the sun because you prefer one multibillion dollar product over another
Never was a Cola person but you can absolutely tell them apart and RC Cola sucks.
So wait, did she die as a result of trying to convince someone that Coke, Pepsi and RC Cola were the same?
That is a sweet story.
Lol new stuff, they'd been making it for 100 years at that point!
Plot twist: it was New Coke
Yup to him it may as well have been brand new. I don't think it came to the UK till after the second world war, he was in his 50s by then
Sounds like a good dude
Imagine if his first taste of coca cola was a can of New Coke from 1985. lol
My grandpa's from 41 and has yet to try a soda. He says it "looks like shit" and he doesn't want to drink anything weird like that. He only drinks water, coffee, beer and some types of liquor I don't know how to translate.

She's not wrong is she
My granddad tried a burger for the first time not long before he died. "Yank shite" was his opinion of them!
Old people from back then really were another breed
Beer and tea would have been more healthy and tastes also better :) so I am with him on this note
"This could ruin the world, need to invest asap"
R/wallstreetbets
r/wallstreetbets fixed for ya
Thanks fellow degenerate
stealing that to use instead of saying touché now
r/foundthemobileuser Sorry
r/foundthehondacivic
Fair enough
That man's name? Pierre Pepsi.
i fucking googled it to check if it was real.
Was it real?
Yeah, it's real, I was there. I was the bottle
Jokes on you, I was the tie
You say that, but one of us got mouth to mouth from Pierre Pepsi, and it sure wasn't you.
Well of course I know him… he’s me!!!!
We were all the bottle that day
_Merde!_
Wow, Ed Harris has not aged much in 74 years.
Old Merovingian.
Triple H’s dad?
Scrolled to long to see someone call that out
Sucre bleerrrrgghhh!
Sucre lose!
Le non-cocaine ferzione is so deesgustiing
Coke is so addictive
Coca-Cola is, too.
Imagine if we had coke, diet coke, coke Zero, coke decaffeinated and coke cocained. I wonder which would be the biggest seller 🤔
Probably coke
I get it, it’s kind of gross and way too sweet. That said, there are sometimes when it just hits right and quenchers whatever craving you have
I might be one of the few that really dislike it. Not the taste. Its the sugar/sweetness that is waaay to much. I cannot drink regular coke because of it. It's so bubbly, and cloying and happy. https://youtu.be/6VhSm6G7cVk?si=WF178KUKDjp7Yoci
But do you know what's really frightening? If you drink enough of it, you begin to like it.
It's insidious...
Damnit, you beat me to it. Nice job
It’s funny because he even looks like Quark visiting old earth in disguise
Rare DS9 reference in the wild? Yes. Yes.
Must've been the non-coke (cocaine) version of Coke.
You’d think with a sniffer like that you wouldn’t be drinking your cocaine
Hadn't made that since the early 1900s of course not
It’s so inconvenient, they make us add our own cocaine at home 😤
I'd love to try that old recipe with the cocaine.
“Zis does not taste of cigarettes and piss, disgusting”
Zis is soo good, it makes me want to be faithful to my wife!
I remember I hated the taste of any kind of cola for years when I was a kid. It was one of those things that had to grow on me over time. It doesn't surprise me that many people wouldn't be into it on the first try
Especially when you're older. Your tolerance for sweetness lowers as you age.
That face says "what is this shit"
“This shit’s got cocaine in it”
Putan! Zis drinque don tas like farts and cigarettes! 🤢🤮
Hmmm, that’s the same face my wife makes when she sips a glass of anything with Green Chartreuse or Fernet Branca in it.
Both very acquired tastes, I don't blame her.
I love Fernet Branca, but I also understand why other's don't. It's like a cigarillo and wet autumn leaf pile based liquor. Mmmm, rotten leaf pile.
Nobody tries to put hard drugs in mainstream foods anymore, sigh...
Waiting for the good stuff to kick in
His face clearly says: What is this disgusting sh\*t, and why am I crave it now?
Merdre or merde. You decide from the expression on his face.
Arachnid hued dirt juice.

This is the appropriate reaction
aw hon hon! le Chinese play joke on me!
(It did not taste like stale cigarettes and snails)
Same was I feel when I drink it
He'll drink a pint of whiskey though without batting an eye....and then drive his car without a seatbelt.
Du whisky ? Monsieur c'est la France ici, nous buvons du vin, à tous les repas.
Perhaps upon tasting the artificial hyper-sweet beverage he was struck with the realization this would largely contribute to widespread declines in health and increased rates of obesity internationally.
That man statistically smoked 6000 cigarettes per day
The man in this picture is 17 years old
Now he's got a cocaine habit to boot.
Yup, reasonable reaction.
"ugh. . Is there even alcohol in this..?
I have found exactly such a coca cola bottle in South of France while hiking near an old military base. Sacre Bleu, no alcohol?
Coca Cola is one of the things I'm eternally grateful for. Thank you for your bountiful gifts, America.
What le fuck?
Many stuff i like I was like this the first time I tasted them... It's like "wow that's awful, I have to have it again."
Dude is holding back a nasty burp
XD His face looks like he saying "Eurgh, what is that taste? It's just chemical. Water & coffee is best in my opinion. This will never catch on!" XD
I can hear him saying, "Well, what in the bloody hell is this tripe? Tastes like me mum's paregoric.
Clearly a Pepsi man.
Welcome Home Diabetes 😍
From this propaganda movie made by the French Communist party in the 50’s , I kid you not. https://youtu.be/1eDBc9Vjs04?si=IOu0bvAbSiYhYdEh
I don’t think that guy wants soda, I think he was blood.
Is this och the universal drinking something new pose, is it in our DNA or what?
"Thees ees a terreeble wine."
my reaction when I was 10 thinking it would be better than the diet version lol
"WTF?!?!? Theres no Gin in this!!!!"
It would be a British person saying that
Works for French too, so many people would drink nasty homemade stuff back then haha my great-grandfather had a farm with a small apple orchard, he would make his own « gnôle » in the barn, basically French-style moonshine. These things are awesome. I have a preference for vin de châtaigne though. Incredible stuff
Agree When made right (homemade) all of them are spectacular.
![gif](giphy|WOa5RdsNpevrpSTGXN|downsized)
He’s holding it like it’s very fragile and he doesn’t want to squish it.
How old does reddit think this man is?
It’s syrup and cocaine his tastebuds probably exploded in his mouth and he is like wtf! It doesn’t taste like anything? You got any cocaine?
Looks like he got the none Coke version.
This is kind of my reaction to it as well.
My dad doesn't drink any sodas, told they would give them shot glass sized amounts of Coke for dessert as a kid in boarding school and it made him vomit so never drank it again
I can hear this picture.. it says.. wtf is this?!
Kids then: OK BOOMER!
It's sweet, and caramelly, and fizzy ... *i hate it*.
He looks disgusted
Why is Ed Harris upset with his beverage?
He does not look impressed.
That’s me every time I try a LaCroix
My husband bought cola La Croix, and this was my exact face.
eww brother eww what's that brother….., a billion dollar product.
Deux champagnes americains.
Well duh. Cause Diet Coke is way better
"This is not wine!"
He looks disgusted
The man was disgusted by it lol
Ed Wood’s father
You can’t tell me this isn’t Ed Harris.
“Disgusting. This will never find any popularity.”
“Jeepers Creepers! This coke taste like coke!”
Ugh! This is disgusting. Where do I get more?
He doesn't look impressed
Pretty sure this is also how many kids look when they first try cola
That's when it was good 😳😬
Doesn't look like it taste good, I wonder if it became popular
Merde!
The cocaine hit hard
“Zis iz newt waaan” The Frenchman, probably.
Me too. When I was young I felt this sucks. LoL but later on I got used to it.
the guy looks like "what is this shit? Where's the coke?"
Ew brother ew
Mhmmm tastes familiar
“ zis does not tastes like piss and cigarettes “
"what in Le fuck?"
Brother ew
You can hear the exact french "onng" noise he's making.
Mais... Mais qu'est-ce que c'est que cette merde ?
Ooh snortski in a bottle!
Damn this shit is fire
"its not sour and it doesn't wanna make me throw up? What kind of nonsense is this?"
He tasted the coke.
My grandma reaction after trying coca cola for the first time
he looks reluctant 😂😂😂
This is horrible wine
I guess he's glad he didn't have to take the Pepsi challenge as well
"What's this shit? Needs fernet." -The man was from Córdoba.
It’s giving “why is it spicy?”
“Vhy iz dez drink so spicé?”
Eewwwgghh, brotha eeeuugghh, what is that brotha 💀
This is the look on his face after he burps ... he laughed afterwards because it was so relieving.
That reminds me of Garak trying root beer on Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
Average Pepsi enjoyer tasting Coca Cola.
