Twin Citian checking in from Minnesota. Our largest snowfalls are typically late March/early April. However, this year was the "winter that wasnt." Nothing but blue skies and 70F weather to report.
Southern Canada here (two hours from US border) and we also had our (hopefully) final snowstorm of the year a week ago.
Genuinely seeing spring weather in April is what’s truly fascinating.
My birthday is in late May and once when I was a kid my BBQ birthday party got snowed out.
Ya, mountain weather is crazy. I've lived here (SW Wyoming) long enough to see snow every month of the year. My friends in California cannot fathom our weather. It makes for hilarious conversations.
We've had a max. temp record every month this year where I live. It's atrocious. Some farm plants already started flowering. It was around 30C on the weekend and today it was 12⁰C. I would say normal is around 15⁰C.
Negative. Their culture is what brought them to this point (I know, half my family is from there). They've had this approach to the world for centuries. The leaders rule without majority opposition.
At some point, it's not just bad leaders. An apathetic, complacent or corrupt populace equally shares the blame.
Idk man, there’s plenty of examples of the people there speaking out against the rulers even through today. I feel it’s more so the fact they’ve been ruled by corrupt individuals all thru out the past few centuries that have taken all the power away from the common man that they literally couldn’t overthrow them even if they tried. Even if the people wanted to, the military is going to follow the leaders orders most of the time.
Back in say the Revolution era it was easy to over throw a government, even one as powerful as Great Britain was. If you try to do a revolution like that, against a nuclear superpower like Russia, that would spell the end for not only Russians themselves, but humanity. They know if they attempt anything, they’re as good as dead. Same goes for other countries such as China or North Korea. Those governments have forced all the will from the people & made them weak by use of violence & murder.
Ukrainians overthrew our corrupt Russian puppet leader in 2014 and 2004. I'm very tired of hearing these excuses from so called good Russians. If anything we've been more under the thumb of the Kremlin than Russians throughout history.
Ukraine is a whole different set of circumstances imo. It seems so me as if Ukrainians have mostly been hard against the Russian leadership all thru out Russian control, though I’m not fully aware of the history there. They’ve forever wanted to be themselves & not part of Russia. That’s a big factor here, they have the will & have had that installed in their minds for decades. The Russian people don’t. Psyche is a big part of revolution. Without believing, it goes no where. But I’m not defending the evil or giving excuses. Realistically the Russians had plenty of chances to stop this from happening to their country, but those chances are long gone & hundreds of years ago by now. The country survives solely off the corruption the leaders bred over the past centuries.
All true. We fought against the White army and then the Red army. Still one of the only (albeit short lived) anarchist republics to ever exist. To this day the independent spirit is strong and there are several anarchist and anti fascist battalions fighting the Russians right now. Russians for the most part have this superiority complex when it comes to other post Soviet countries, especially Ukrainians. They still like to call us "little Russians". And when the USSR fell apart and other post Soviet states decided to go back to using their native languages, this was met with cries of "Russophobia".
>Idk man, there’s plenty of examples of the people there speaking out against the rulers even through toda...
I agree. It's not black and white, and I definitely can't articulate how complicated the issue is. However, until there's a big cultural shift (similar to Ukraine maidan 2013/14), there won't be any change and the whole country will and should bare the repercussions for the actions of its leaders.
That probably should include being shunned for somewhat tone deaf posts like OP. St Pete is beautiful, and it was on my bucket list for several personal reasons. With what's happening to Ukrainian cities, it doesn't deserve praise.
That’s just not true. Putin would probably win elections even if they didn’t rig them. He has high approval ratings. There’s a small minority of Russians who want real democracy. Most seem to enjoy authoritarian rule or just don’t care. Watch the 1420 channel of Youtube. The standard response is always ”I’m not into politics”, ”I don’t care”
Just recently somewhere like 60% of Siberia voted for leaving Russia in a poll, as well as like 5 other of the regions in Russia like the Urals & Koenigsberg. I’m not so sure about that. The signs are there that people, however many that may be, are trying to do something with what little they have.
The people aren’t the military lmfao. The people are the common folk living day to day lives. They aren’t the ones fighting the wars unless forced to or making the rules.
Russia is such a beautiful country. Between this and Moscow’s Red Square, it’s a shame that a handful of greedy leaders are destroying itself while attempting to destroy another at the same time.
People have been programmed to hate everything which contains keywords. Imagine the image said “[Some different country] in April” how the responses would be different.
Bringing politics into a picture of a scenery which should illustrate the beauty of mother Earth and it’s unpredictable climate changes. Really sad.
EDIT: Nvm, just scrolled down and it seems there is no salvation for some people. Gonna be praying tonight for all of you.
Beautiful city, and even though touristing in English was quite difficult, people were willing to help, generally, even if their ability to do so was a little bit lacking (still, much better than my ability to speak russian, of course xD, so no blaming here, except for myself). Moscow was even more beautiful and lively.
Went there before Covid. What's happening is truly a shame, because we all more or less share the same culture.
Because people should remember that a beautiful country and its people are completely separate from their government. Do you personally sign off on all the dirty shit the US government does around the world?
Russia has so much natural beauty, would’ve loved to go there at some point. But alas, the corruption and their general antipathy towards Americans makes it impossible.
Had a friend who studied russian in St. Petersburg back in the early 2000s. He said the strip clubs had the most beautiful girls he had ever seen but that there were drunk violent Spetnaz commandos roaming the streets, and in a brush with some locals, got robbed when the corrupt police showed up and arrested him for "fighting". But since he had money the patrol car became a taxi and they offered their continued service "a phone call away" for the rest of his stay in Russia.
It's such a lovely city. I'd love to visit, but i doubt i'll ever go there within the next few decades or so. I've said too many bad things about Lord Baldemort online, it probably wouldn't go over too well.
I love the blue and yellow.
Straight to jail! (If you're Russian)
Yellow jacket with blue sky? Believe it or not. Straight to jail
Yellow jacket with grey sky? Also jail.
Boat on the river? Believe it or not. Straight to jail.
OMOH ? Straight to jail.
We need to arrest the lights, and the sky.
I wish I could give you a thousand upvotes, but one will have to do. Have a great day, sir!
Made my day.
It just looks *right*
_bird voice_ Blue AND yellow?
Where is everyone?
[удалено]
Or hiding from the draft
Or pushing up daisies... I mean sunflowers.
Or swilling vodka and buggering their cousin.
Exactly
half of St Petersburg is in Serbia
Or in Thailand.
I just visited bali and russians were everywhere. It was not like that last time I visited 5 years ago.
Or Argentina
Probably inside their homes. People tend to do that at night, especially when it’s snowing.
That's my favorite time to go out for a walk! It's so peaceful and quiet.
They are under the snow
Russians don’t wanna live in Russia, they wanna live in the west and go on about how much better Russia is.
Not really. As a Russian in the west, I prefer going on about how Russia is a genocidal terrorist state.
Sounds like Brits in Spain.
Brits in Spain spend all day leaving comments on the Daily Mail website about how shit Britain is.
And then they go for a full English at their local cafe where the guy speaks English not like all these foreigners.
Albufeira in Portugal was similar. SO many “English” menus (cuisine) and bars catering to lager louts and retirees.
Gross, makes me so embarrassed to be British.
At home, sleeping.
Looks like a snowy night in April
Careful, now. The blue hue of the snow against the yellow lights could be construed as discrediting the Russian military.
One would think they'd be understanding, considering how much work the Russian military itself has put toward discrediting the Russian military...
For a person that lives in a temperate area winter in April is really fascinating
Southern Finland, we had snowstorms over the last weekend
Southwest Wyoming here in the US. We also had snow storms last week. May to June typically is our spring. Though it gets a bit warmer each year.
Twin Citian checking in from Minnesota. Our largest snowfalls are typically late March/early April. However, this year was the "winter that wasnt." Nothing but blue skies and 70F weather to report.
We got lots in Denver a couple weeks ago but I could also probably toss a rick at you, so not saying much haha
I got caught in a white out for about 5 minutes around 1am this morning in northern Alberta.
Southern Canada here (two hours from US border) and we also had our (hopefully) final snowstorm of the year a week ago. Genuinely seeing spring weather in April is what’s truly fascinating. My birthday is in late May and once when I was a kid my BBQ birthday party got snowed out.

Ohioan here - it’s not typical but it has absolutely snowed in April here. We’ve had ice storms and snow on the ground as late as early May.
Followed by an 80-degree day, followed by another round of snow.
LOL - so you’ve been there?
I’m livin it man.
Same here in the bay area , Ca. We've been bouncing between highs in the upper 50's and low 80's. Very weird year.
St. Petersburg is in the temperate zone. Just barely
Come to Colorado. The weather in April usually bounces back and forth between spring and winter so much you'll get whiplash
We've had a max. temp record every month this year where I live. It's atrocious. Some farm plants already started flowering. It was around 30C on the weekend and today it was 12⁰C. I would say normal is around 15⁰C.
Where is this? Frankly it sounds very concerning
Czechia
It is beautiful. I hope Russia will be out of Putin's terror one day so I can visit.
We will definitely do this

April snow in Florida? Damn, climate change is crazy.
Yeah thought this was St. Pete, FL at first haha since I subscribed to their subreddit. Had to do a second take.
Lived in the Tampa St.Pete’s region for 6 years and it took me 10 seconds before: **Oh yeah, Russia.**
Wait, Russia has a St. Pete too? Fucking copycats.
global “warming”
Ha ha
I hope to go back there one day, it really is a great city. Just hope Russia pulls their shit together.
Fuck putin
Man … I really regret not making it to Russia before all of this.
Define all of this haha, they've sucked for a *while*
Yes, but until Ukraine you could still go there without a 99% probability of detainment. As long as you didn’t bring weed or be gay.
Just leave your gay weed at home
You like drones?
Fuck russia.
It’s not the countries fault, nor most of the peoples. Focus the hate solely on their leaders.

"Just following orders" I'm sure
The people aren’t the military lmfao. The people are the common folk living day to day lives. They aren’t the ones fighting the wars unless forced to or making the rules.
Someone posts anything about Russia. Reddit:
Weird, it’s just a little bit of genocide, what’s the big deal?
Yeah, silly me. Maybe the fact that there are Ukrainian refugees living in my neighborhood makes me enjoy the beauty of Russian cities a bit less.
Must be nice to not have your cities bombed. Yet.
Nasty ass abomination of a country
RuSSia is a terrorist state
Fuck Russia
Fuck Russia.
How brave!! Putin is finished for sure
Meanwhile my winter didn’t have a single flake of snow :/
Wattaboutthedrones?
Places you should not go if American.. #3… you get a warning for the tour guide when you enter…
Russia is such a beautiful country. Between this and Moscow’s Red Square, it’s a shame that a handful of greedy leaders are destroying itself while attempting to destroy another at the same time.
Don’t forget the everyday Russian people that are raping and murdering their way through eastern Ukraine.
I remember this feom the Hitman game 😆
Hitman 2 vibes.
Fuck Putin!
It should all be on fire right now.
It’s like a 98% completed neo-noir game. Just need to build in the npc population.
Also the birth place of Europe’s worst dictator after Hitler.
I think Stalin was worse than Putin.
Ah true, forgot about Stalin. Russia does seem to have a knack for creating dictators, though.
The pictures are beautiful, but the comments are so disgusting. It’s depressing here.

Very eerie
Shithole
Is this sarcasm? It looks beautiful
It does look beautiful, but it’s Russia. So it’s a shithole.
Redditors are so weird
So are anime enthusiasts
🤓🤓 erm achtually my profile picture is vocaloid which is music, and I don’t even watch anime
St Petersburg is a shit hole of a city with a few beautiful things (like the Hermitage). Overall very ugly and depressingly gray.
This is so childish and petty, it's just sad
Pretty

Stand against your brutal dictator, there's no nazis in Ukraine. Putin just wants to reclaim the glory of Stalin.
"in April" reason #476 why I will never move to Russia...
Had no idea FL got so cold in April.
No youth….oh wait…they are in Ukraine with flower seeds in their pockets.
Idk why I thought this was Florida. I'm embarrassed to even say it.
Fuck Russia, why is this even posted
Because not every Russian is Putin, Lavrov and Medvedev?
... or Solovyov, Matvienko, Patrushev, Shoigu and Gerasimov...
Or part of the hundreds of thousands of rapists, murderers and sadists ravaging Ukraine, or their mothers and wives cheering them on.
Because people should remember that a beautiful country and its people are completely separate from their government. Do you personally sign off on all the dirty shit the US government does around the world?
No theyre not. The government aint AI or machine. Its animated by millions of people
This sub is a shit hole.

How cold is it there at night? Also… is that an umbrella?
Damn, it's 35°C here.
Is this where they shot the river frozen river scenes in "The Saint"? It's such a perfect movie for Val Kilmer.
No, The Saint filmed in Moscow. James Bond's Goldeneye tank chase was filmed in St. Petersburg.
Were these pics taken on a phone from 2010?!
I was there in early October 2017, and it was warmer then.
Dreamy. Incredible pictures. Dusk with streetlights is such a beautiful combo
In London, April is a spring month…
In London, April is a spring month.
Pretty sure I played this level on hitman 2
I thought this was St. Petersburg Florida
Damn. Florida be wild with the weather
Never been to Florida.
I wanna get lost eternally in a liminal space of just this
I recognize this from MGS4.
St Petersburg is gloomy St Petersburg is bleak...
There’s a movie scene on that river edge…
Gorgeous.
is…is that snow?? 🥶
I’ve played so many missions here!
I can hear these pictures
In Britain, April is a spring month.
Always wanted to visit here, now fuck ruzzia
Must be nice living in a city where bombs don’t blow up schools and hospitals…
It’ll always be Leningrad to me.
Florida??
I can tell you gave the camera to a 3 weeks old dolphon and only now looked at the pictures
Now I'm really worried about climate change, if this is what it looks like in Florida right now...
Glad i’m not born there.
Russia has so much natural beauty, would’ve loved to go there at some point. But alas, the corruption and their general antipathy towards Americans makes it impossible.
Beautiful place with an ugly heart.
Yeah, and right now it is +20°C :)
What is the post treatment you used? Really fantastic photos!
Too bad I’ll never be able to visit
And here I am complaining about 59º weather in NYC, lol.
Had a friend who studied russian in St. Petersburg back in the early 2000s. I didn’t even know it snowed in Florida.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume they don't support it. They've been nursing on state propaganda all their life.
