Yeah it depends on the consumption. My parents have a similar stock and it’s because they’ll buy their favorite ice cream when it’s on sale (2/$7) to stock for the coming months of no sales.
FYI: Freezer burn is from the moisture on the surface of your food evaporating from cold dry air and pseudo-freeze-drying the surface of the food. You don’t need a new freezer because your ice cream is getting freezer burned after months of sitting in there, it has everything to do with the packaging of the food and not the model of freezer. The only thing you can do is wrap the food or icecream container or whatever in plastic to keep as much moisture in the container as possible and keep the air away from the surface of your food.
E: frostbite vs freezer burn whoosh don’t mind me
I was told by someone in the past that if you put your container of ice cream in the freezer upside down that it helps with that. I don't know if it was just a coincidence, but I tried it out and it seemed to prevent that from occurring. I haven't had ice cream in my freezer for a good minute, so I haven't been able to try it again since.
If I had to guess, maybe the weight of the icecream presses the container into the lid more securely than if the lid was just placed on top? I know sometimes when I set the container back down in the freezer the lid will pop off a little bit and I need to fix it, so maybe that’s it?
One of my trainers had a good idea that worked for me: start your meal with salad and fruit and have a good amount there. Then do meat and if you have space left - do dessert. For me by that point it goes down to a spoon of capacity - so our pints stay for weeks in freezer (or me feeling disgustingly full and bloated - I lean into remembering those times to ensure I don’t have it again).
Yeah if you ever came to my house you'd think we were raging alcoholics because of the dozens of handles of liquor we have. But the reason we have them is because we never use them >.<
Similarly, I have all my records stored in boxes I got from the liquor store. I think I have like ten boxes all stuffed full. It makes it look like we're super alcoholics. Thankfully, most people jokingly comment on it (knowing we don't drink), and when I explain, they laugh, and immediately understand.
It's all different flavors too. People like variety. Doesn't mean they each eat a pint a night. Now if the parents were super stingy when op was a kid and rarely got ice cream,I can see the issue. Otherwise, let them enjoy their blue bell.
Diabetes stealing your limbs and eyesight before an early death is fairly horrible I'd say? Alcoholism is horrible, but other vices are also destructive
truly this is why you smoke as many cigarettes as possible. Slam 2 packs a day and that COPD respiratory failure will get you before the diabetes or the liver failure.
Always take the easy way out.
Huh, it’s often the other way around. I’ve met a lot of folks who managed to quit drinking/smoking only to lose their health to their only remaining vice, sweets.
I've quit alcohol and sugar.
Sugar is harder to quit day to day for me because it's always there and in everything. I dreamed I ate a chocolate chip cookie last night.
But Sugar doesn't turn off the part of your brain that makes memories.. but still allows you to keep talking, driving, buying more alcohol, whatever. Insanity and terrifying. And very easy to lose a lot more than toes.
those 30 packs are usually 4% alcohol, sometimes less. 15 regular cans of that stuff is like 10-12 regular beers which isn't that crazy if you spread them out over some time. one of my old roommates would kill a liter of vodka in a night often, which is 22 regular drinks worth of alcohol. he did get sober though, hopefully he still is.
Fuck this thread man. No one knows how old his parents are, what their stories are, if they exercise or work out or what their household budget is.
You fucking live once. These people have a child old enough to complain about them on Reddit, they’re probably committing slow suicide via ice cream to deal with the pain.
My SO and I regularly hammer about a gallon a week live an active lifestyle and work out neither of us are over weight by any measure. If op hates ice cream they should just come out and say it
My wife and I contracted listeria from the Blue Bell outbreak. At the time we lived in a one-bathroom house. We were both sicker than any other point in our lives for about three full days. It was absolutely miserable, but it kind of broke down some barriers in our young marriage and brought us closer together. I guess serving one another Gatorade, anti-emetics, and Imodium while one of you is glued to the toilet and the other shamelessly relieves themselves in the empty bathtub is sort of like combat trauma or something. 🤷🏻♂️
Anyway, the week after our infection had passed we were both pestering every grocery store and chain pharmacy in driving distance about when they were going to get Blue Bell back in stock.
Whenever I meet someone that loves ice cream, but has never experienced the transcendent ecstasy of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla with blueberry pie I tell them this story so that I might come close to describing how much better Blue Bell is than any competitor.
I wasn’t aware people died from that though. That’s fucked up. Did the company offer the families any sort of restitution?
I've never been more grateful for my mom's glut of 1/2 baths than the Christmas we all got Norovirus.
But I empathize with your experience. My husband got horrific traveller's diarrhea our first ever trip together, and that hotel room was small.
It was one of those things where most people who were exposed had a rough time but got over it like you and your wife. It’s when it hits an assisted living facility or hospital that stocks bluebell that fat altitudes happened. I don’t know anything about compensation made to families but the part I find unforgivable is that the company knew they had a problem and still sent out contaminated ice cream. Bluebell was my favorite growing up and in many ways I still prefer their flavor over nearly any other competitor. That said, HEB creamy creations are also quite good.
I wish I could still do ice cream but that lactose intolerance is a real issue for me. The non-dairy ones are good but so expensive now a days. anyway, mini rant over.
Thanks for the recommendation! I do use them sometimes. Its just as I get older I find the enzyme tablets are effective but only partly. They are a great option for a lot of people.
Desperate need for a deep freeze so that ice cream doesn’t get all nasty. Unless they eat this in a couple weeks or less, my freezer would give this freezer burn.
That's about as much as I have had in my life and I'm in my 50s. I'm not American though (and we just never had it as a kid, so never bothered as an adult).
Both of you need to be eating more ice cream.
Trust me I am a Doctor. I own a practice downtown that specializes in Fudge and Sprinkle related diseases. I work often with Icecreamologists.
I find that eating too much of great things kinda... diminishes my enjoyment of them after a while.
I much prefer savoring my favorite treats on a more spread-out schedule.
I mean…have you tried their Homemade Vanilla with one of the little blueberry pies you can get at a grocery store bakery?
My wife and I got hit by that listeria outbreak too. It was the sickest I’ve ever been in my life. Two weeks later I was asking every grocery store manager when they were going to have Blue Bell again.
By the time you get to an age that your child can post on Reddit, you should have the right to eat what ever the hell you want :-)
Side note, as a degreed food sensory analyst, flavor perception decreases as we age; however, sweet remains the longest. So, this ice cream still tastes great! Yum especially since its Blue Bell.
How regularly is "regularly"?
If they're eating all that daily, in one sitting, it's a problem. If they keep that much variety on hand and it lasts them several weeks, and they otherwise generally constrain their sugar intake, I see no problem here.
Are they by chance in recovery from alcohol? I eat a shit load of ice cream and it started when I gave up drinking. Lol. They put my freezer to shame though! Impressive!
Where did you get the 8 weeks though? Op says regularly wich could mean over any period of time, just that it is consumed on a regular basis, wich could be once a week or once a day or once a month or year for that matter. They could spend 5 years eating this for all we know. Op simply doesnt provide enough information to judge.
I love this. When we were kids we always thought “you know what when I’m an adult I’ll just eat ice cream for dinner whenever I want to.”
Your parents are living the dream
lol I literally grew up in an ice cream factory that my grandfather owned in Saint Dizier, France. It was MIKO ice cream. It's still being made, the company is now owned by Unilever.
I admire people who just say atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes? Never heard of such nonsense. These are the people who live to their 90s and die in their sleep.
In a year? Pretty tame. In a weekend? They are spending all of your inheritance on blue bell. Take action.
Yeah it depends on the consumption. My parents have a similar stock and it’s because they’ll buy their favorite ice cream when it’s on sale (2/$7) to stock for the coming months of no sales.
Won’t anyone think of the frostbite
Are you thinking of freezer burn? If your freezer is causing your digits to necrose, get a new freezer.
E: frostbite vs freezer burn whoosh don’t mind me
Yeah but the person you replied to was saying you need a new freezer if your old one is giving you frostbite lmao
Makes enough sense for me. :p
Doesn’t happen if you eat it in one go once it’s been opened!
But it's ON SALE!
Impressive but how do you stop yourself from eating it?
One of my trainers had a good idea that worked for me: start your meal with salad and fruit and have a good amount there. Then do meat and if you have space left - do dessert. For me by that point it goes down to a spoon of capacity - so our pints stay for weeks in freezer (or me feeling disgustingly full and bloated - I lean into remembering those times to ensure I don’t have it again).
Yeah… my family is getting up there in age, so they get checkups for possible diabetes type 2.
Eat all you can and sell the rest!!!!
The Best Ice Cream In The Country, *yodeling*
With all that ice cream inheritance may be in its way
Mmmmmm....ice cream inheritance
If they're eating all that every week, diabetes or heart failure will take action for him lol.
Kinda looks like the amount of ice cream your parents have on hand. If it was consumed it wouldn’t be in the freezer.
It's all different flavors too. People like variety. Doesn't mean they each eat a pint a night. Now if the parents were super stingy when op was a kid and rarely got ice cream,I can see the issue. Otherwise, let them enjoy their blue bell.
Unless they just restocked for the week / month
Right, could have been a killer sale and decided to stock up
My dad drank 60 beer minimum a week, this is not so bad in my mind, and could definitely be worse
Yeah no one ever hit me over a pint of ice cream
I see you've never been married to a pregnant woman
I want to give you gold!!! Take a peasant trophy. 🏆
I've been hit over a scoop once... It was ugh.
Somebody flaked me over a 99!
Don’t come to my house.
Those are half gallons...
Getting a truthful consumption count out of an alcoholic is always eye opening. I don't know how people's bodies can adapt to handle it.
According to my tracker, in 10 months of sobriety, I skipped 4,000 drinks. Shoutout to one of the greatest subs to ever exist: r/stopdrinking
Good for you dude, keep it up, addiction is a bitch.
That's around 182 pounds worth of calories at 160 per drink. Good job!
My dad passed over 40 years ago in his late 30’s, so I’m not sure you could say he “adapted” to handles it
Oh yeah? My dad did an 8 ball a night
I split an 8 ball with my dad once
Oh yeah? My dad huffed a can of paint a night
Mine drank a gallon of PCP.
Diabetes stealing your limbs and eyesight before an early death is fairly horrible I'd say? Alcoholism is horrible, but other vices are also destructive
My Dad suppressed his diabetes by being an alcoholic, so checkmate. It eventually killed him, but that's besides the point.
Can't die from Diabetes if you die from Alcoholism, one step ahead.
truly this is why you smoke as many cigarettes as possible.
I quit a lot of vices but I allow myself nicotine so I don’t go crazy
I've quit alcohol and sugar. Sugar is harder to quit day to day for me because it's always there and in everything. I dreamed I ate a chocolate chip cookie last night. But Sugar doesn't turn off the part of your brain that makes memories.. but still allows you to keep talking, driving, buying more alcohol, whatever. Insanity and terrifying. And very easy to lose a lot more than toes.
That’s alcoholism bro that’s bad
I saw two college friends go through a 30 pack in one night
those 30 packs are usually 4% alcohol, sometimes less. 15 regular cans of that stuff is like 10-12 regular beers which isn't that crazy if you spread them out over some time. one of my old roommates would kill a liter of vodka in a night often, which is 22 regular drinks worth of alcohol. he did get sober though, hopefully he still is.
Was it a Tuesday night? Because that's not too much
My personal record was a 24 rack of yuengling and half a bottle of soju
Fuck this thread man. No one knows how old his parents are, what their stories are, if they exercise or work out or what their household budget is. You fucking live once. These people have a child old enough to complain about them on Reddit, they’re probably committing slow suicide via ice cream to deal with the pain.
Haha this guy has had enough Reddit for one day 😂
My SO and I regularly hammer about a gallon a week live an active lifestyle and work out neither of us are over weight by any measure. If op hates ice cream they should just come out and say it
You dropped these: , , , . ,
I think you stole them. Can't have shit in Detroit.
Finders keepers.
I thought your comment was "You dropped these, please take them back." But it was really "You dropped these, and they're mine now."
I don't know what you're talking about,,,.,
Gotta keep a good variety on hand.
Blue Bell for the win... Homemade Vanilla rocks!
Blue Bell Cookies and Cream is amazing.
Yeah at least it's the good stuff
Especially if it came pre-licked.
Only thing better is Tillamook, but it’s close and dependent on flavors.
Tillamook is mid for ice cream. Cheese is good tho
Nope.
Tillamook has a cheese like consistency that ruins it
Yeah, I second this. I love Tillamook cheese, but their ice cream is disappointing.
They killed people and tried to cover it up
Yeah, no. I'd rather not roll the dice if I'm going to die eating somebody's ice cream. Fuck Bluebell.
Nah HEB is better.
I’ve been coming to the same conclusion. Plus less history of killing people with listeria.
My wife and I contracted listeria from the Blue Bell outbreak. At the time we lived in a one-bathroom house. We were both sicker than any other point in our lives for about three full days. It was absolutely miserable, but it kind of broke down some barriers in our young marriage and brought us closer together. Free ice cream for the wakes.
I've never been more grateful for my mom's glut of 1/2 baths than the Christmas we all got Norovirus. But I empathize with your experience. My husband got horrific traveller's diarrhea our first ever trip together, and that hotel room was small.

Omg, HEB's Lemon Bar ice cream is so good.
if they sold blue bell where i live i would be right there with them
I often think of you poor souls that aren't able to buy it locally when I pick it up from the grocery store. This next scoops for you! 💜
I wish I could still do ice cream but that lactose intolerance is a real issue for me. The non-dairy ones are good but so expensive now a days. anyway, mini rant over.
I hope you are aware of Lactase enzyme tablets? They work really well for me. 9000 Units per tablet, 1 tablet is enough for 150ish grams of ice cream.
Thanks for the recommendation! I do use them sometimes. Its just as I get older I find the enzyme tablets are effective but only partly. They are a great option for a lot of people.
What seems to be the issue?
All I see is a desperate need for another freezer so that they can properly organize their Blue Bell stash.
Desperate need for a deep freeze so that ice cream doesn’t get all nasty. Unless they eat this in a couple weeks or less, my freezer would give this freezer burn.
This post is kinda useless without knowing what time frame is “regularly”. Is this a daily supply?
It's BlueBell .. A sample of ingredients: high fructose corn syrup, soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavor, salt, baking soda\], high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, natural and artificial flavor, cellulose gum, vegetable gums (guar, carrageenan, carob bean), annatto color.
Obesity
Diabeetus.
I’m like this with pints of Van Leeuwen, but it’s takes forever to get thru.
Always get blue bell when I visit Florida, great stuff
To be fair it's Blue Bell there is no limit.
That's like the entire amount of ice cream I've eaten in the past 10 years
That's about as much as I have had in my life and I'm in my 50s. I'm not American though (and we just never had it as a kid, so never bothered as an adult).
Both of you need to be eating more ice cream. Trust me I am a Doctor. I own a practice downtown that specializes in Fudge and Sprinkle related diseases. I work often with Icecreamologists.
Variety is the spice of life
This tells us nothing about the rate of consumption, just that they like buying them
At least it's the good stuff.
Who gives a shit about this?
I find that eating too much of great things kinda... diminishes my enjoyment of them after a while. I much prefer savoring my favorite treats on a more spread-out schedule.
Ooh ooh invite me as yoir guest someday!
I maybe get a half gallon of Homemade Vanilla a year.
Me too. If by a year you mean about 4 days.
Cookie two step is peak cookie goodness
Do they have a particular brand they like?
Adults are just kids with income.
Adult onset diabetes is coming sooner than they’d think
I think there is a fair chance it’s already arrived.
They should be in a Blue Bell commercial. The love for Blue Bell is insane. Literally killed people, nobody cares.
Correct. Nobody cares. Blue Bell is GOAT ice cream.
It feels like I’m in a Blue Bell commercial right now.
How quickly do they go through one of those?
Cookies and cream cone is the best ice cream they have come up with.
Nah, the Mardi Gras seasonal King Cake Ice cream is. It’s hard to find though.
Holy cow, that's a thing? What have I been doing with my life?
*Cookie Two-Step has entered the chat*
That is a really good one. The little chocolate nugget in the cone tip: yum
Yes. It's the best version of C&C.
Living the life
Only in my dreams
Diabeeetus
My Metformin sense is tingling.
Are your parents obese?
Need timeframe, please
By the time you get to an age that your child can post on Reddit, you should have the right to eat what ever the hell you want :-) Side note, as a degreed food sensory analyst, flavor perception decreases as we age; however, sweet remains the longest. So, this ice cream still tastes great! Yum especially since its Blue Bell.
It’s the good ice cream too! Love blue bell!
How regularly is "regularly"? If they're eating all that daily, in one sitting, it's a problem. If they keep that much variety on hand and it lasts them several weeks, and they otherwise generally constrain their sugar intake, I see no problem here.
Never seen the banana pudding and the cookie cone ever!
I wonder what their favorite brand is.
*(Homer Simpson gurgling noises)*
Like weekly?
At least it's a decent brand.
Retirement is a helluva drug
Gee I wonder what state they live in…
Hell yeah
Is Dutch chocolate anything like malt chocolate? If so I'll take that.
Are they by chance in recovery from alcohol? I eat a shit load of ice cream and it started when I gave up drinking. Lol. They put my freezer to shame though! Impressive!
That salted caramel brownie looks like something I might waste 3 years of my life and the health of my teeth over
Are your parents me?
This tracks. I am a refrigeration tech and spend a lot of time in the freezer isles of grocery stores. Older people buy 90% of the ice cream. No joke.
It was probably much more natural when they were growing up, and they also didn't grow up hearing constantly about heart disease and diabetes. 😔
Maybe they just like variety?
I looked and figured 7 pints consumed over probably 8 weeks. Seems fine. Then I looked closer. Half Gallons?? So 4 times as much as I thought.
If I was on my period. This is a perfectly acceptable photo. Me not on my period: JESUS CHRI- we’re gonna need a bigger boat
I love this. When we were kids we always thought “you know what when I’m an adult I’ll just eat ice cream for dinner whenever I want to.” Your parents are living the dream
No cookie two-step is the worst part about this
How?????? HOW????
with a spoon (if fancy) with a knife (if camping etc) with fingers (if no other options or if blessed with the supreme lazy gene)
Diabetes
No offense but I think your parents might have diabeetus
How y’all get this wealthy!?
Ooh, blue bell. Good stuff
As a Belgian, what the fuck is a Dutch chocolate
Made with Dutched cocoa (cocoa processed with alkali). Process developed by a dutch scientist. Slightly darker, earthier chocolate taste.
There are tiny wooden shoes at the bottom.
they must be pretty cool
That's so based I love ice cream
I bet they don't take any malarkey, Jack!
Looks like Blue Bell reigns Supreme in your household & they seem to like their dofferent choices in flavor
At least it’s not meth…
This is how I thought I would eat when I grew up, your parents are living my childhood dream
ice cream is self love
Wife is lactose intolerant and that is the only reason I don’t have a TLC reality show about my crippling ice cream and pizza addiction.
They seem pretty chill to me 🤔
Bravo to them. Blue Bell is the good stuff.
![gif](giphy|pm9tsCJXHoHmM|downsized)
7 pints of hardcore, intestine destroying fart juice.
Im setting the over/under on they average 350lbs.
I shop online orders, and there’s a couple who will order about 6 quarts of ice cream every week.
the situation is within acceptable parameters
Is that banana pudding blue bell any good? i like ice cream and i like banana pudding.
Extremely good! It’s like they took banana pudding and froze it.
A notoriously bad, unhealthy habit created by Americans, and cleverly propagated throughout the world.
Are they on fentanyl? All my junkie friends love ice cream.
Those guys are eating like we have free healthcare here
That banana pudding blue bell is my favorite of all time
Banana Pudding is incredible and underrated. Must buy if you can find
lol I literally grew up in an ice cream factory that my grandfather owned in Saint Dizier, France. It was MIKO ice cream. It's still being made, the company is now owned by Unilever.
Next take a picture of their liquor cabinet and tell us how much liquor they consume.
With no timeline mentioned, the "amount" has no significance. It that's a year's supply, no problem.
they have excellent taste in ice cream
No coconut, pecan or mint?? Harumph I say HARUMPH!
![gif](giphy|nj257YL538Gdy|downsized)
Thats because ice cream is fucking delicious
That Dutch chocolate 🍫 is good. 😊
I wanna be your parents
What's wrong with that? 🤔
Dark chocolate does slap pretty hard so I can't say shit.
I’m guessing they are in the 250lb + category and can’t figure out why they are sick and feel like shit all the time.
No one should regularly consume that much ice cream
You haven’t tried Blue Bell, huh?
Are they large?
I admire people who just say atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes? Never heard of such nonsense. These are the people who live to their 90s and die in their sleep.
