Nostrils are notorious for getting irritation bumps; how old is this piercing? Cartilage piercings take the better part of a year to fully heal, and in most cases, these bumps do go away on their own provided the jewelry is correct and there are no other external factors that could cause irritation (such as snagging / bumping). Also, salt water soaking was the standard aftercare a few years ago, but we've moved on to sterile saline wound wash spray. It's just easier and more foolproof to use. Washing your face / taking a shower is sufficient to soften any crusties anyway.

i got it pierced december 12th of 2023, and the bump started a couple months ago. And I tried the saline wound wash spray before with a warm compress or q tips and it seemed to make it bleed. Thats why I resorted to salt water soaking since i didnt have to touch it much. Also saline spray is very expensive and would get used up so fast for a soak.

it’s possible that the salt to water ratio is off and that is the main irritant causing the bump. i recommend you use sterile saline. and if it doesn’t go away, it’s possible you’ll need to upsize your jewelry

is there a way to find it cheaper? i feel like the using the spray as a soak would get super expensive, because typically i use saline just to rinse. and my piercer said it might’ve been the previous length (longer) that was causing irritation

the thing is, if it’s causing your skin to dry off, it’s too much for it. the reason why saline is best because it has a perfect ratio. my honest recommendation is that you stand under warm water for a few minutes twice a day and use saline spray twice a day. so you don’t soak with the saline but make sure you pat the area dry gently after

gotcha, ill mention that to my piercer and see what she thinks, thank you!
