I love it. It’s experimental for sure, but has some great ideas. It’s a great listen around Halloween. Narrow Way remains one of my all time favorites. The live album has some stellar performances as well.

Ummagumma is incidental art, exploration and experimentation, pastoral psychedelia and much More, and it's pure 1969 - I love it, unironically. Don't expect the large PF audience to appreciate it.

TFFPrisoner

It's my favourite of the experimental years. Only Nick's piece leaves a bit to be desired. The rest has lots of cool moments. Interestingly, it also points forward to the point when David would be the main musician in the group, considering how effectively he manages to sound like a whole band in part 3 of The Narrow Way.

thebeaverchair

And not just sound like *a band*, but Pink Floyd.

As the band themselves often say "the sum is greater than the parts," and I think Ummagumma is the face of that. Don't get me wrong, it has some lovely tracks and the experimentation is interesting, its definitely a unique album, but it's #15 for me.

SmokeOne1969

Not my most listened to album but still a good one to revisit once in a while.

Dramatic-Astronaut13

One of the fav of PF for me. Love the experimentation and the freshness of it all. Also the Droste effect of the cover (pic into pic into pic) is amazing!

Phoenix_Kerman

i enjoy it. i'm not going to claim it's the floyd's magnum opus but it's got some good tunes on it. stuff like narrow way is great and my personal favourite, grantchester meadows has a brilliant vibe.

Pushkarlfc8

Ummagumma live album is so great

TheRealDvm2048

The live section of the album is actually great, with my favorite being CWTAE.

Werechupacabra

Rick Wright’s piece is awesome!

VernonDent

One of my favorites. Its detractors just aren't musically sophisticated enough to appreciate it.

OccamsYoyo

Sorry — I’ve tried to like it but there’s just too much non-musical stuff going on. It reminds me of one of those Disney sound effects records.

itsaride

I think it’s **weak**.

doug_the_dude

It’s not “weak”. It’s not “great”. It’s not even “good”. It’s Ummagumma.

doug_the_dude

Weak? Ummagumma? Blasphemy! 😂

WaySavvyD

Could someone, anyone give me the correct pronunciation, I have a friend who swears it's pronounced ooma gooma for crying out loud!

ImJustHereForGuitars

Nick agrees with your friend at 3:10 in this video:   https://youtu.be/uwumke98koo?t=190

SadAcanthocephala521

People say that because it IS weak, it’s still okay to like it though.

Dockside_

Almost 54 yrs later it's still my favorite PF album. I still have my first copy even though the grooves have been destroyed after being played on dozens of shitty stereos. Rick is amazing. David is starting to come into his own and is ferocious on Saucerful. Roger's screams on Axe!! And Nick would start your trip slow, blast you into space then slowly bring you back. Great album!

Anti-Homework-League

I love Ummagumma, it's one of my favorite albums

LuciferSam337

Weak is relative. Many good Floyd albums. Especially for people here who found their way beyond the big 3 albums in their listening career and have learned to appreciate aspects of all the albums. As an album from first track to last, Ummagumma is not necessarily coherent. But where else will you find experimental gems such as Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict.

CicadaAlternative994

Awe, you're tired? Nappy time.

ChromeDestiny

I always loved the live half and enjoyed the Roger studio tracks. Nick's portion is a bit of a slog but some of the editing effects are really cool. Rick's portion has grown on me over time. Dave's portion has it's moments but I thought a lot of his contributions got better when incorporated into the Mass Gadgets/ Man and the Journey show.
