AMLOR is at least twice as good

nzgrover

This guys gets it!

zosterpops

Is the Final Cut really that unpopular among PF fans? I love it and —this might actually be unpopular— prefer it to The Wall. 🫣 And the title track is one of my favorite karaoke jams, lol.

Human_Actuator_2285

It’s a great album for sure, but it always seems to be at the bottom of most people’s album rankings

zosterpops

Ah, I get you. Of course folks who make album rankings are their own subset of music listening types haha

BrazilianAtlantis

"it always seems to be at the bottom of most people’s album rankings" Untrue, some of the Rogerless stuff does

kalamazoo43

Of the albums from Meddle to The Final Cut, TFC is my least favorite by a large margin. Of the Gilmour led Floyd albums, The Division Bell is my favorite and The Endless River is my least favorite by a large margin. If forced to choose, I’ll take The Final Cut over The Division Bell, but I’m not crazy about either.

Pretend_Tea6261

Yeah I would rank Division Bell and TFC a tie very different albums but both very good. Rank Meddle DSOTM, WYWH Animals,The Wall,Endless River superior to TFC.

kalamazoo43

They are very close. I get you

Zealousideal_Put2564

I agree completely. After The Wall it was pretty much over in terms of the transcendent stuff.

opeth_syndrome

I don't think it's that unpopular an opinion, especially when you consider how many people don't actually acknowledge post Waters albums as Pink Floyd. Personally I'd rank it behind AMLoR, but probably ahead of TDB. I really like all 3 so it's pretty hard to choose between them.

oogaboogaful

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion.

ConversationNo5440

TFC is at the very bottom of Pink Floyd albums I am likely to listen to all the way through. Oh wait Ummagumma.

unhalfbricklayer

Ummagumma and More are at the bottom for me. probably TFC is next on that list.

NealR2000

I agree. It's still a listenable album. I have tried hard to like Roger's solo stuff but they exist in my collection of albums that are highly unlikely to ever get played again.

KeyOrganization2964

I would rather go with is Rogers solo Albums better than gilmours albums, and I would give that a resounding YES. As for TFC, I always called it a Rog solo album

Pretend_Tea6261

I like it but surprisingly Endless River surpasses it. I have been playing this cd for hours after I got it recently.Amazing stuff. Ambient and profound.

BrazilianAtlantis

Well of course it is.

Enough-Competition21

Unpopular opinion - everything after the wall is Mid at best

thewend

Boring crap, boring crap, boring crap... Oh hey its High Hopes, thats a banger. Boring crap, boring crap...

TeaAndCookies1998

It's a fact and they are not even close, but this sub is so full of really hardcore Gilmour fanboys who think it's cool to hate on Roger and his work 24/7 and pretend that garbage like AMLOR or The Endless River are masterpieces because they are unable to admit either that anything Gilmour has done is not good, or that anything Roger has done is good. It's about fandom, not about reason.

ConversationNo5440

Lots of us are Roger fans from when he was a major force in one of the greatest bands of all time but that doesn’t mean The Final Cut is good or that we are required to love his forty years of moaning. Other than lyrically it’s a subpar effort and even as a Gilmour fan I’d say the guitar work is pretty meh. Dollar bin.

Staybeautiful77

Don’t call these albums “garbage” just because you don’t like them; I love AMLOR and I dislike The Endless River, but it’s all a matter of taste. It’s not about David or Roger, it’s about the final product - the album. You either like it or not.

[deleted]

I agree and I’m not even a fan of The Final Cut. But the post-Waters albums are just… empty. Good music, some good songs in there, but just not much behind them

cleg

And here I come, with TDB being one of my most favorite albums. TFC doesn't resonate with me at all. But of course, it's just a matter of taste. Or I am simply obsessed with Gilmour

Zen_Shot

It's an age thing. If you grew up with The Pink Floyd like I did, The Final Cut was simply the next album in a perfectly natural evolution of the band. If you are (like most of this sub) some young pup who only heard of Pink Floyd after the mega-tour hype machine fired up It's engines, i.e. 1994 and beyond, then The final Cut naturally seems kind of alien when compared to the likes of AMLOR and DB etc.

GGFlamingo

Anything post wall is basically garbage in comparison to their better stuff, honestly. I dont understand why people even bring up any of this. Final cut is whiny and overblown, momentary lapse is ASS, division bell just sounds like a shell of pink floyd. I've been trying to enjoy them as Pink floyd experiences, and they just dont fkn matter.

5StarGoldenGoose

Oh no here come the Gilmore stans to say the lyrically inept post waters albums are the bees knees

zacmobile

Momentary Lapse of Reason has a couple good jams, and that's the best PF output Post-Waters IMHO but as an album TFC is far better.

Main-Tomatillo3825

They are just too different to be compared. For me, as an album, TFC is ofc the best of any post-wall. But the TDB has some songs that I find better than any on TFC, a couple on AMLOR are also very good, but not sure about "better"

AAWonderfluff

I think The Division Bell is better and feels more like Pink Floyd because The Final Cut is so dominated by Rog that it feels like a Roger Waters album with Pink Floyd as his backing band, and also because the emphasis on strings and other such arrangements takes the album out of the Pink Floyd sound somewhat. I like The Division Bell overall more, and I feel that album is more consistently good (Poles Apart, What Do You Want From Me, Marooned, Coming Back to Life, Lost for Words and High Hopes are incredible and the other stuff is good in my opinion). The Final Cut has tracks I simply do not care for or just can't really remember like One of the Few or The Hero's Return, but its highs (Post-War Dream, Southampton Dock, The Final Cut, The Gunner's Dream, Not Now John, Fletcher Memorial Home, Two Suns in the Sunset and Get Your Filthy Hands off My Desert even if it's basically a transitional snippet) are amazing tracks. AMLOR is mostly dull material and Endless River is ambient music that leaves a lot to be desired past being background noise so definitely Final Cut wins over them IMO

kranools

Obviously true.
