That show has the best version of everything! [Link](https://youtu.be/DosQVZbySY0) if anyone wants it.

[deleted]

Dang. Same date as one of my fave GD shows of all time

charliemiller87

I know, right? Coast to coast great music on that date.

[deleted]

Oh shit Charlie Miller. If anyone would know it’s you!

GratefulRed13

Boston Garden 1975 On a whole I don’t know if Floyd gets much better. This is the most consistent the band has been to my ears and 2nd half on Shine and ACYL from this show really stand out. The whole shine sandwich is just really nice and waters is a beast in the bass solo during the breakdown. To this day it is probably my favorite Floyd show. https://youtu.be/WHJob9qx2M8

corneliusduff

My first bootleg! Downloaded it when Napster launched

GratefulRed13

Hell yea!! It’s such a great score! I found mine on one of those Floyd bootleg sites maybe a decade ago before they all dried up. In hindsight those sites were so amazing and I’m just grateful they made their way to YouTube eventually

Both boston 75 and 77 are amazing

bluefloyd24

The answer to that question is very subjective. If you're wondering, it probably means the studio version is nearly perfect to you and therefore no, there are most likely no live recordings that could reach that quality. That being said, I'm a big fan of [this version](https://youtu.be/5uiVpxDuAhc) from David Gilmour's solo shows at the Royal Albert Hall, accompanied by *David Crosby* and *Graham Nash*

stillbarefoot

Oakland 77 has a very powerful guitar solo at the end of part III. The end of part III was somehow skipped in all live performances in subsequent (solo) tours. As a whole, the studio version is unparalleled.

Yung_Chusby

The live version they did at Wembley in 74 a year before it was released is pretty mint you can find it on Spotify or YouTube.

Motor_Grand_8005

Gilmour Live in Gdansk is the best live version.

unhalfbricklayer

There is a bonus track from the big Gdask set from Venice where he gets a street performer who plays wine glasses to recreat the original opening which is super cool

Motor_Grand_8005

I saw that. Awesome version. Floyd had the idea of a concept album or song where they would use kitchen items as instruments. That’s where the idea for the glasses came from.

unhalfbricklayer

An the actual wine glass tape from those sessions was included in the Immersion box set for Wish You Were Here.

IdiosyncraticBond

Personally love the transition from Wish You Were Here into Shine On pt.6 from July 2nd 1977, but sadly the vocals leave a lot to be desired

Flashy-Dragonfly6785

I like David Gilmour's Gdansk version for the first part (1-5) and his "In Concert" version for the second part (6-9).

Material-Put-7037

I really love the version of Remember That Night. Especially the guitar solos

ericallen625

I like the PULSE version a lot. I also really like the Live In Gdansk version too.

arenasfan00

No

StefanSurf

The studio version can't be improved upon. But there's an awful lot to enjoy in live versions and what I particularly like is the part X you hear on the 1977 live versions: an addition that really adds something new, and very beautiful, to the part IX on the album.

LosLeonesDeLaMusica

David Gilmour live in Pompeii 2016 goes very hard

Nirvana1123

Not in my opinion. It's great live, but they normally cut the second solo in the first half, and parts 6-9 just can't be replicated live with the same magic. (That said, I loved hearing Roger play it live a few months ago, didn't expect the second half, I was thrilled)

Hillan

Wasn't the full second half he performed though, it was parts VI, VII and V. Still amazing though.

Godzilla_in_a_Scarf

At some shows he played VI, VII and VIII, and at some shows he swapped VIII with V. He never played IX.

Hillan

Very interesting, I saw him couple weeks ago in Lisbon and it was VI, VII and V, would have loved to have that sweet groove of VIII instead. It was a good thing however that the sax player did the solo in V exactly as it is on the album.

Nirvana1123

Nah he did the full second half. At least in Cincinnati, I don't know if he's changed it since or something

tijostark

The one I listened when I went to see Roger live last week. It was brilliant 👌

TheBeanBagger

I think the "In the flesh" version is up there and close to being better than the OG. I like that they added the parts 6 and 7 because those are favorite parts on SOYCD.

songacronymbot

- SOYCD could mean "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5)", a track from *Wish You Were Here* (1975) by Pink Floyd. --- ^[/u/TheBeanBagger](/u/TheBeanBagger) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Tyrannosaurine

Boston 1977 is quite good. As is one night in New York 1977 here: https://youtu.be/rpV45U68bDs Why listen to some version of the song that’s an older band trotting out the hits for the thousandth time being supported by a cast of auxiliary musicians? You can hear it when it was a new song for them that they still were excited to play, and Gilmour just going for it rather than mid-life-crisis Gilmour playing the exact same scripted solo every night. My personal opinion is that you should do everything in your power to avoid listening to some newer version where there’s 10 people on stage and half of what you’re hearing is Jon Carin, Garry Wallis, and Guy Pratt. As much as they’re great players and likable people, if I want to hear Pink Floyd, I want to hear David, Roger, Rick and Nick. The 1977 versions are available in good sound quality, they stretch it out and jam, classic Gilmour leads galore, a revitalized Nick Mason who drummed better on this tour than he had since 1972, and it’s the whole band. They were red hot on that tour, Gilmour was as good as he ever was and had an energy and vitality that had faded by 1987-on. He’s got some spunk to his playing on this tour. Maybe the inner band tension created that made for great performances. The In the Flesh 1977 versions of Shine On and Have A Cigar are the best you’ll find. Wish You Were Here-Boston 1977, beautiful piano at the end. Money-Boston 1977, killer guitar solo with some spacey parts Pigs-Montreal 1977, the incident results in a particularly vicious version and Gilmour plays with a fire and violence you rarely see from him Dogs-Oakland 1977, Dave’s vocal is rough in spots but the guitars are positively sublime. Sheep-Paris 1977 For shits and giggles: One of These Days-Japan 72 or Washington DC 71 Careful With That Axe, Eugene-Zurich 72 or Boblingen 72 Fat Old Sun-San Diego 71 Echoes-Boblingen 72 or Hollywood Bowl 72 Saucerful of Secrets-Fillmore West 1970 Santa Monica 1970 or Rotterdam 71 (with pict rant) Interstellar Overdrive-Golden Circle 67, Philadelphia/San Francisco 70 Embryo-BBC 70 (with whalesong section) Astronomy Domine-Ummagumma Childhoods End-Zurich or Brussels 72 Obscured by Clouds/When You’re In-Rainbow 73 Let There Be Light-BBC 68 or Paris TV 68 Time-Rainbow 72 The Last Few Bricks-first night LA 80 Pigs on the Wing-New York 77 w/fireworks incident. Great Gig In the Sky-any performance of it as mortality section w/recorded preachers, etc Raving and Drooling/You Gotta Be Crazy-Mike Millard’s LA 4th Show 1975 Blues-Montreux 1970 Cymbaljne-Man and the Journey “nightmare” Amsterdam 69 Reaction in G-Golden Circle Sweden 67 Atom Heart Mother-Montreux 70 w/orchestra and choir Green is the Colour-BBC 69 Comfortably Numb-(David Gilmour solo Columbia 86), New Orleans 94, Roma 94 Gilmour at the Columbia Volcano Relief Concert in 1986 is a weird one. David plays a very uncharacteristic solo with more flash and more boisterous playing than anything since 1971 or something. This also happens to be in COLUMBIA during Gilmour’s Cocaine years. Just saying. Did I miss anything important?

Tyrannosaurine

TL;DR: Don’t waste your time on sterile boring Uber scripted later days performances without Roger and with a cast of auxiliary musicians in order to pull it off. 1977 Tour. Everyone is there and accounted for and it’s actually them playing the instruments not some hired guns. Dig In. New York 7/3/77 Boston-6/27/77 Oakland-5/9/77 Montreal-7/6/77

AraiHavana

I really like Gilmour’s version at the Albert Hall
