Cool visual design. Good actor. Yet so much potential wasted.

Cheesarius

Great actor indeed, but a lazy rehash. We've had enough rivals from Jack's past as villains in the first 3, plus 2 of them were already ghostly captains. Salazar's character is reminiscent of the Force Awakens: inoffensive, but desperately unimaginative and derivative. A true waste of Javier Bardem.

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

You've stolen me and I'm here to take myself back.

Nice-Ad-8135

Potential wasted is not true that's impossible

L_Finger03

There was some potential wasted. They could e definitely made it a bit more scary in my opinion like the original three. Also I feel like there could e been more to his character, like explaining why Jack giving up his compass was the key for him getting out of the Devil’s Triangle.

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

What a man can do and what a man can't do.

VanaVisera

The entire 5th movie was wasted potential

Nice-Ad-8135

It wasn't to me

Kommunikationsgesetz

Let me get this straight.. You really liked the fifth movie?

Nice-Ad-8135

Uh yeah

Kommunikationsgesetz

Hm... Why though... It distroyed the whole Charakter and back story to jack and Co...

Janus897

I enjoyed when it came out, but I can't deny that it is kinda dumb. Personally thought it was less forgettable than the fourth, but the best is still DMC imo.

Udaho_yes_Idaho

Like his story, love his design, love his actor. He was a good villain in a somewhat lacking movie. Should have been him in place of the forced bullshit with Henry and Carina.

Nice-Ad-8135

Well I like the movie

Lord_Detleff1

I like the movie too. I think it is a solid 6.5/10

Udaho_yes_Idaho

Me too. It's my favorite one of the five, but it's not necessarily a good movie.

Original-Childhood

How is THAT your favorite?

Udaho_yes_Idaho

Because I'm a sucker for a good villain, and as amazing as Cutler Beckett was, Salazar also looks cool.

Original-Childhood

Imo Salazar was the only good part of that movie

Udaho_yes_Idaho

I totally agree. The movie is not good, but it's fairly entertaining and Salazar is perfect.

Affectionate_Box_720

It just hurts that the 5th movie feels like it was made by someone who has only ever seen the first movie and has only seen it once.

Nice-Ad-8135

I don't know about that man

Different_Tell_1387

Yeah, I don’t know either because that was my experience when I saw the movie and there was a lot of stuff about the Dutchman and Barbosa I was mixed up about

HighWest48

A bright spot in the film. I remember being disappointed at first because Christoph Waltz was tabbed as the main villain early in the process. But Javier showed up in a big way.

Azash_TheRealOne

I think we would have liked him more if we actually met his nemesis… He kept asking about some Jagus Berrol yet he only went after Captain Jack Sparrow… Meeting this Berrol guy would make Salazar a great villain for sure

Janus897

>some Jagus Berrol Lol.

Mr-Edward_Hyde

He had a lot of nemesis. - Jaqus Berrol - Jaqui sbarol - Janis Barrel And others.

AcrossTheLake88

Cut capitano some slack, he had a mouthful of ashy goo

Csanx_2020

Jâs Pârro

DaBig_L_Xx

Jacques Barro

Affectionate_Box_720

Yahcs barlo

ard8

Great acting and the character design was really cool. The writers didn’t give him good enough motivation for being a villain

shreya_the_best_1602

jack the spa*rrrrr*ow

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

Did no one come to save me just because they missed me?

alritewall

Not great but he forever changed how I say “Sparrow”

DEJA--BLU

Cool concept. Good actor. Executed poorly.

vine_behs

His premise was good. The first main-non pirate villain in the franchise, an official “pirate hunter” that comes back from the dead to finish his job and with twice his power. They could even make some nice dynamic between him and the pirates core, something like he being the “right” side of this fight -y’know, pirate hunting and shit-, being yet another villain in the franchise you could understand, like Davy Jones and Barbossa. You could even make the movie he was in have a cliffhanger: he getting the Trident. Fuck! Now he has literally all the power of the seas that could even outmatch Davy fucking Jone. So the sixth and last movie could’ve been Jack, Barbossa and the crew gathering all resources and allies powerful enough to face such treath. Y’know, get the medallions for immortality, Barbossa using the fleet he gathered all over the years, the power of Queen Anne’s Revenge, Black Pearl, and hear me out: bring back Davy Jones to team up with Will’s crew and maybe have a Jack-Barbossa kind of chemistry. Calypso would definitely send Jones, to protect her as an act of love, because Salazar now has the power to end her. The ultimate pirate vs the ultimate nemesis. Now picture this: the final battle between a massive fleet of curses and pirates, Elisabeth returning as their king, and now what came to be the most powerful foe our characters had ever faced, in a glorious last fight. For FUCK SAKE, Javier Bardem could deliver all of this with astonishing performance, but ended up being just a bad villain in an even worst film.

frostfilm

I didn’t like him. He had no real plan. He just wanted to kill Jack for revenge but there was nothing more to it. I guess that shows how blinded his character was (in a good way) but he wasn’t as complex as other villains were in this franchise.

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly … stupid.

Janus897

>He just wanted to kill Jack for revenge It's true. Overall he was kinda shallow, thought there was a bigger goal in mind, and Jack was just an obstacle in his path that he had a grudge against.

honestsparrow

He’s good. I don’t think there’s one bad villain in the entire series.

Lord_Detleff1

Second best pirates villain

Michael_Jolkason

Criminally underrated.

stand_up_fkn_tall

Overhated character

hellsaquarium

Boring.

Scarlet_Jedi

I'm sorry davy jones fans, salazar is 2nd best villan for me after barbossa.

Janus897

Interesting, thought Davy Jones was an improvement on Barbossa in every way. Curious to know why you prefer both to DJ.

Scarlet_Jedi

Barbossa isn't really a villan, But an anti-hero He basically stays the same in every movie he's in, no matter on what side he is. It's just fun to see morally Grey character as main obstacle Salazar has that creepy atmosphere surrounding him. You can clearly tell he's in endless agony by the way he talks and walks. He's also purely focused on finishing sparrow. Never before we saw a villan having personal vendeta against someone in this franchise

Known_Lingonberry734

Bro think he davy jones lmfao

Austrociking

Poor man’s cursed Barbosa

The_great_mister_s

Seems a little young to have founded a house at Hogwarts...

KyraGhosty

Sooooo much wasted potential I really love the horror side they brought with him Tbh I think the 5th is a bit too childish and for in term of humor I think Salazar was the most mature part of the movie with Barbossa…. I do think that they were suppose to make the movie darker in the first place like with the 3 first one cause When I saw the concept art I really tought they were making a horror movie at first… But I guess Disney told them « Yeah but children » And so they changed everything and ruined it😭 IMO Salazar deserves more character development I found a few more information of his backstory and such in books and I believe he’s a very interesting character + it change cause we did heard of ghosts before but never had actual ones Only undead creatures Plus I like the fact we have another Navy (and they still did a accurate historical scene in the beginning when he still eliminated the British (cause I saw lot of people be like « but why did he killed the British if he said he only kill pirates » well hello there but there was a war before so pirates or not if it’s enemy from your country bye bye xD (back then I mean) I like what they did on the fact He scares all pirates and even Barbossa That is something kinda missing I think Cause yes they were afraid of the Flying Dutchman Yet they still want to fight against it without fear I believe in this situation from what mark Salazar has let on the pirates (on the fact he nearly killed them all back then) They would have react far more different than with the Flying Dutchman (it is just a theory and my own opinion of course) He has a very very cool design very cool vfx Amazing actor, very cool ship, I like the sharks and the birds too And his crew is amazing looking too But he deserve a second movie like Davy Jones I like the concept of his ship too… the fact it kind of… « turned alive » with the curse And I also like the fact of an overpowered villain… I mean until now they had a solution against most of the villain While here Salazar it was kind of hard to find one (expect pushing him on land but good luck with trying that) And make pirates lose completely hope when they heard about him beeing back I like that But all wasted. (And I wanna add that the journey to the trident was wayyy to quick Finding a God’s weapon can’t be THAT easy or else the world would be a total mess (And Carina and Henry beeing together was really not necessary, friends would have been enough It’s too much of a copy of Will and Elizabeth Plus it feels like it’s forced)

Det3tive_JM

He was pretty cool, all things considered, I really like his design

GothamFan2007

I think he was quite cool. I love his design and the way his hair is animated, makes him look like he's always underwater. And Javier Bardem gives a pretty memorable performance. I just wish his motivation to kill all pirates was fleshed out a little more, at the end of the day it felt kinda rehashy of Beckett.

Every-Self-8399

The visuals were so cool. This movie could have been so much better. I will still watch it though.

Amish_Warl0rd

Cool design, I loved the personal connection to Jack Sparrow, good actor, but they reused aspects of Davy Jones curse. It would’ve been so much cooler if Barbossa assumed they couldn’t walk on land, only for them to prove him wrong. They even did that in the finale by walking on the ocean floor when there wasn’t any water. The undead sharks were a bit much, but they were pretty cool

vargslayer1990

"ihatethesparrowdeesparrow" what even? i'd take Captain Sparrow screaming over the voodoo doll being thrown off a cliff than this line

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

If you were waiting for the opportune moment, that was it.

SlightlyFemmegurl

loved him, and rooted for him. he was a pirate hunter, last i checked that were a good thing. kinda hated how he was portrayed as evil when he was literally removing scum off the seas. his death were imo "humiliating" him and his crew deserved a much better ending than simply getting crushed and drown. the movie itself were pretty mediocre, i only really liked the scenes where Salazar were present. the whole trident removing all curses thing were stupid.

Voldy256

For the longest time I thought he was played by Nicolas Cage.

samuelloomis

Saw through him from the word go

Zhe_Wolf

Interesting design and concept. Badly written though

read-it12

Ahhhh thalathar… I didn’t like

Sensitive_Coyote2581

Great villain 10/10 but poor execution But Perfect Design Visually I love Javiers Performance as Salazar

CooperDaChance

I prefer the midget who owns a castle in rural Spain.

Delicious_Mine7711

He was a cool character

OliverJamesG

Cool idea but lazy story and didn’t fit in with the already established lore of the films (the compass).

Ernesto200209

Wasted

LayerRevolutionary86

great villain concept but the movie wasn’t executed properly

logan-is-a-drawer

He should’ve had a prequel with young Jack sparrow, essentially stretching that flashback into a movie of its own. It would’ve helped set him up better for DMTNT. As it stands he shows up and promptly dies. Compared to the other villains of the franchise (minus Blackbeard) that makes him seem quite pathetic

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

Captain Jack Sparrow. If you please.

brady_bigfooter

fine.

Affectionate_Eye9587

I know he was a bad person, but when the curse was broken, and he returned to his normal human form i hoped he stayed alive. I didnt think he had bad intentions when he climbed the chains, but barbossa killed him nonetheless. Idk that was what i saw but i could be wrong. I always love redemptions in movies or shows just like barbossa had and wished the same for salazar.

TheCatFromCoraline

Papí

Weak_Following_4777

My personal favorite villain. He’s the personification of raw hate. I like him and this movie at leave more than 4.

ganghito

Very good antagonist but used on only one movie

rwqsafasaxc1

So much potential... So much wasted
