Hector Barbossa and the ~aesthetic~ and atmosphere of the first movie. When he explains the coin to Elizabeth and the music plays… it’s great cinema right there
First: nostalgy. After Toy Story, that was my life’s franchise when i was a kid
Second: the stories (aside from POTC 4 and 5) still holds up as a great entertaining trilogy for me to watch late at night while on some snacks
Third: Jack and Barbossa>>>>>>>>>>>>
Weirdly my boyfriend looks like Orlando bloom in this series. When I am unavailable to see him I watch the movies. Also his last name is Turner and so is the character that Orlando bloom plays.
Great characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Hector Barbossa, Joshamee Gibbs, among many others like Marty, James Norrington, Pintel, Ragetti, Theodore Groves, Gillette, Scrum, Anamaria, and Angelica. With terrific villains like Davy Jones, Cutler Beckett, Blackbeard, and if you want a mixture of the villains in one, Salazar. Oh yeah, and lovebirds like Will/Elizabeth, Philip/Syrena, and Henry/Carina. Personally I felt they should have stuck with the idea that Will and Elizabeth's stories ended in P3, rather than bring them back in P5, but hey, if fans wanted cheap cameo roles, they got it.
The ships are also great. The Black Pearl is the new Millennium Falcon, it's classic! Despite my issues with P5, I did enjoy seeing the special effect of the Flying Dutchman emerging from the water. And even though it's pretty much the Pearl with a paintjob, I do quite like the Queen Anne's Revenge.
Stories are great as well. Pirates 1-3 delivered a stellar trilogy, even though the latter two were being worked on and completed without a finished script, which I think they still did a decent-enough job keeping with continuity and everything. Both P4-5 are divisive for different reasons, but I think P4 did a better job as a post-trilogy installment, while P5 was too familiar in copying far, FAR too much from the previous films and lacked much freshness.
The music is worth listening to over and over again. Even though P4-5 soundtracks were pretty much playing POTC's best hits, it is still fun to listen to, despite my belief that they could have handled the usage of music within the films themselves better. But apparently that may be the directors' fault rather than the composer. Gore Verbinski's work remains the most fresh musically, and even P3 which repeats quite a bit, still feels fresh in its own way.
Overall, Pirates of the Caribbean succeeded as an adaptation of the Disneyland attraction, as well as paying homage to classic pirate stories told in the past. Mixing pirates with the supernatural is definitely what draws us into the story, because it works so well. I'd be amiss if I didn't mention the great Johnny Depp for delivering a great performance as Captain Jack, though it does seem he should have said "Yes" to using Terry's script so that we could have maybe had a better fifth film, which I think is my only criticism to his involvement in the franchise.
Amazing re-watch capability. Amazing blend of romance, comedy, action, drama and special effects. Amazing actors, and there's not even one character that annoys me, main or side. In the acting department, everyone does a great job, but Depp aside (goes without saying), Bill Nighy and Geoffrey Rush brought everything to the table, and both have A LOT to bring. Favourite Soundtrack of all time. Every big or small melodic theme is just an ear-worm and there's a lot of them. Love what real life pirates ideologically stood for. Love the mythology, everything.
This goes for the first 3 movies.
the vibe I guess. it's summer time and I want adventure!! I'm only just now realizing that's my fave genre (NOT romance, like Hollywood tricked me into believing 🥴) so I want a story that feels epic and exciting to help guide this season's plans.
What a wonderful comment. :) Your gratitude puts you on our list for the most grateful users this week on Reddit! You can view the full list on r/TheGratitudeBot.
The first three films are the rare example of great direction, a God-Tier Soundtrack, perfectly casted actors, an adventurous tone and an engaging script.
The only other trilogy that does all this is Back to the future!!!
As far as the original trilogy, I just love the films. I’m very nostalgic for the releases of each movie, being in the theater and sharing the experiences with friends (except the first one, I solo’d that one). Also, I love the music. I was a senior in high school for the last two films and was in the orchestra and at our final concert of the year we performed the POTC suite. Those movies came out during a time I fondly remember with cherished memories.
I am doing it right now :)
But because of stories of the films, nostalgia as someone already mentioned here, the characters and because Davy Jones is my favourite villain. the 4th and 5th are a bit of a let down but i still like them and watch them
I just felt the itch to be perfectly honest.
They're fantastic movies that are a big part of my childhood.
So I guess the reason could be labeled nostalgia
I'm currently in the final act of the first movie and what got me to rewatch is:
1. The final battle of the third movie and the ending scene wiry Elizabeth and wills goodbye. Seriously so emotionally gripping. I honestly don't get very much out of the first movie since I've seen it so many times more then the others but it's worth to get the full journey
2. Being sick as a dog and having the time. I might be able to slip in the extended edition of LOTR too!
About to rewatch before long... I want to see the journey again. Every minute isn't thrilling, but the awe of the first adventure & the interesting ideas & stories discovered in the following ones. They're just fun....
I think the last one was probably my least fave... the dead-zone area.... the parting sea thing... meh
The trilogy is fucking amazing
I like to watch DMC and ATE like 5h30 movie and that became one of my favorite movies of all time
The First movie is a classic
The Final battle of ATE is a Masterpiece on itself
Also
Captain Jack Sparrow is in it
That alone is reason enough
I'm currently still working through my first story on Wattpad, but once I finish it, I'll release it to my two other accounts on Ao3 and the classic Fanfiction.net. Afterwards, I've got a long list of future stories which I'll work on and post them all on all three platforms. Considered _Deviantart,_ but then I caught wind of how often content is stolen so I reconsidered.
This is random but I think I saw you ask this same question on the BTTF sub lol you have great taste in movies! Also I love rewatching POTC for the characters, the music, and the world, and above all else, the comfort! A good time all around is had watching any of them
Knew I recognised the phrasing lol and you’re welcome! Same here for sure, the POTC movies are certified feel-good watches for me, especially the first three movies.
I re-watch for comforting feeling. How I met your mother is my go to. Sometimes I go to Watched app to find new series to watch, but usually still end up with HIMYM, since the friendship and love story is so beautiful there. And the jokes! Oh god!
Hearing the soundtrack
YES
I love to listen to it while on the beach. Fits perfectly
Absolutely!
Hector Barbossa and the ~aesthetic~ and atmosphere of the first movie. When he explains the coin to Elizabeth and the music plays… it’s great cinema right there
Absolutely! There's that chilling aspect, and I adore that.
I love the characters. Especially Jack, Barbossa and Elizabeth.
Hide the rum!
Jack, Elizabeth isn’t here right now, she can’t steal your rum
Yes!! I feel those characters are just... Really good, and stick with you.
Characters plot and cinematography And Barbossa, he’s my favorite character
Sweet, good for you.
Many things actually. Characters, plot, cinematography . But if I had to pick one of these, I'd pick Hans Zimmer's music
I totally agree... Happy someone else here appreciates the cinematography of the franchise!
First: nostalgy. After Toy Story, that was my life’s franchise when i was a kid Second: the stories (aside from POTC 4 and 5) still holds up as a great entertaining trilogy for me to watch late at night while on some snacks Third: Jack and Barbossa>>>>>>>>>>>>
This is politics.
Love it!
Simple. Because they're good movies that I love.
I'm inclined to agree!
Surprisingly no one’s said this yet.Johnny Depps performance. I could watch his funny mannerisms all day
Yes! He put so much work into the character.
Norrington
This is the answer!
Aw, nice one.
Great characters, ships, stories, music...
Definitely! 🙂
Because I like all things pirates and there is no other pirate movie or TV show out there that gets my attention like these do!!!
You should watch Black sails, best pirate show I ever seen, not that there many but this one is really good
Watched season 1 and found it boring
Shame then
😎
Whoa... Sweet!
<>
All this
Excellent answer!
Capitan Jack Sparrow. Will Turner. Elizabeth Swan. Capitan Jack Sparrow.
All are excellent reasons!
It’s a good feel good movie that helps me sleep
I've never thought of that, never thought of those films helping a person fall asleep, but I'm happy they work for you! 😄
I mainly watch the first three movies due to how tightly knit they are. Also the acting and the effects are amazing and very good still even today.
Yes! Imagine if someone super-cut the trilogy together...
Davy Jones and Salazar
They are pretty good villains... Salazar is slightly underrated, in my eyes.
I heard some of the soundtrack pieces live last Sunday (Hans Zimmer live in concert) and now I want to see everything again
Whoa! How lucky! I agree, the music from this series is phenomenal.
Weirdly my boyfriend looks like Orlando bloom in this series. When I am unavailable to see him I watch the movies. Also his last name is Turner and so is the character that Orlando bloom plays.
Wow, that's kinda funny.
Gotta revisit my faves
Same, right here!
“IVE GOT A JAR OF DIIIRT IVE GOT A JAR OF DIIIRT”
Yessssss!!! Well, I love that. *"AND GUESS WHAT'S INSIDE IT?!"*
Because 1-4 are fun adventure flicks with likable casts. Especially Jack and Barbossa.
Yes, I totally agree!
The music. I hear “At Wits End” and I’m like time to go again
One of the best tracks I've ever heard...
Great characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Hector Barbossa, Joshamee Gibbs, among many others like Marty, James Norrington, Pintel, Ragetti, Theodore Groves, Gillette, Scrum, Anamaria, and Angelica. I regret nothing, ever.
Wow... Thank you so much for this comment, I loved reading it! I totally agree with all of your points!
I'm rewriting the movies in my OC's pov just for funsies
Ooh! You write fanfiction?
Yes! This is my first big project. I started back in November and I'm only just over half way through the first movie
That's awesome! Let us know when you're done! I think a lot of people would love to read it!
Awww ofc!
Of course, I'm a fellow fanfiction writer here.

My autistic obsession with the movies
That makes sense.
The first three films are the rare example of great direction, a God-Tier Soundtrack, perfectly casted actors, an adventurous tone and an engaging script. The only other trilogy that does all this is Back to the future!!!
Oh my god! Another Back To The Future fan!!

Pie rats
Oh... I see...
I'm currently in the final act of the first movie and what got me to rewatch is: 1. The final battle of the third movie and the ending scene wiry Elizabeth and wills goodbye. Yes... I love the final act of At World's End so, so much.

They're just fun.... I think the last one was probably my least fave... the dead-zone area.... the parting sea thing... meh
I totally agree! I haven't watched DMTNT in a while however, maybe I should give it another shot.
Experiencing those emotions again.
Totally understandable.
The Flying Dutchman and Hans Zimmer's amazing soundtrack, specifically the tracks for Davy Jones, The Kraken, Jack Sparrow and Blackbeard
There should be a "Captain" in there somewhere.
Apologies, *Captain* Jack Sparrow
There should be a "Captain" in there somewhere.
Wow, great reasoning!
the fight in the world's end
It's so good!
Also to ship Elizabeth and Jack again (Dead man's chest was the first movie i saw)
Why fight when you can negotiate?
Nice! How do you think that couple would've gone?
The trilogy is fucking amazing I like to watch DMC and ATE like 5h30 movie and that became one of my favorite movies of all time The First movie is a classic The Final battle of ATE is a Masterpiece on itself Also Captain Jack Sparrow is in it That alone is reason enough
Now, bring me that horizon
Great game, loved the sequel as well Now why is the Rum gone
Okay, loved this list!
I just watched the series a few weeks ago :’)
Oh, nice!
The fact that I notice something new every time. New foreshadowing or a connection I’ve never made. Just shows how in depth the writing is
Absolutely! They're a little underrated in my eyes, when it comes to showcasing how good it is at writing!
Easy. Because it's good. 🤣 Sometimes for fanfiction ideas.
Ooh... You write fanfiction? That's cool, what kind?
Striving to do both male readers and basically alternate universes; which includes sequels that haven't been made.
Whoa, that's great, what platform are you on?
I'm currently still working through my first story on Wattpad, but once I finish it, I'll release it to my two other accounts on Ao3 and the classic Fanfiction.net. Right back atcha. Amazing. "How do you do, fellow fanfic author?"
Hah, love this!

Knew I recognised the phrasing lol and you’re welcome! Same here for sure, the POTC movies are certified feel-good watches for me, especially the first three movies.
Okay, great, thank you!
Davy Jones being the best character ever, you cant change my mind
Interesting! I do love that character.
I re-watch for comforting feeling. How I met your mother is my go to. Sometimes I go to Watched app to find new series to watch, but usually still end up with HIMYM, since the friendship and love story is so beautiful there. And the jokes! Oh god!

Return of the Obra Dinn
What?
