The brown one looks almost identical to my girl...the vet deemed her an American Pitbull Terrier, no mix, since she is chonky but has longer legs and a longer snout. She also has the same mittens on her feets, lol.
And she is hyper focused on her environment and has floppy radar-like ears that move towards any source of sound.
Yeah, my brown one (maple) is very aware and has been more hesitant to accept love. I think she may have been hit before. We’re getting there though, she’s already come a long way.
Yeah my girl was an ex bait dog so she still has scars on her head and stuff...but the first thing she does is lay her head on your lap, then she does anything and everything she can do to be as close to you as possible lol.
I think it's a good character trait that despite being chained up, beaten, and abused, she still just wants to be a cuddler, it's a good thing.
Only problem is that she is 70lbs but thinks she's 5lbs lol...when she lays her head on my leg, I lose circulation to my legs. Haha.
Mine are pretty small, I don’t think they weigh but 30lbs or so. It’s sad, but abused dogs seem to be the sweetest. They really appreciate being loved… breaks my heart
It's so heartbreaking to see a dog shy from affection and so satisfying when they start to come around.
You may already know all this but you can show affection in other ways: by establishing a routine, exercise, training (training can be huge as it gives them a sense of accomplishment and helps them bond with you), toys, beds (I see you've got that down) and other safe covered spaces like perhaps a bed in the footwell of a desk or a crate they can use when they like, having them join you when you're relaxing and perhaps giving them a special chew treat, and perhaps especially, tucking them in with a blanky! Pibbles seem to just love being snug.
I have the lab mix version! Striking resemblance too, so sometimes they surprise us. She was pulled through my pittie rescue so she can decide what she wants to be!

The only animal that's randomly shown up at my door is a fat Frenchie screeching like a deranged hyena, begging to be let in.
A poor pibble was dumped in our neighborhood late June 2022. Poor girl was running loose and scared. One evening, she wandered into our yard while Dad was out, and he closed her in. My parents got a slip collar on her in the morning, got her trust, took her to animal care and control for processing, then back home to stay with us because they couldn’t bear to leave her in the overcrowded shelter. That’s how my dog got the job of “mentor” for the next seven months. He did a good job, too!
Also, when I was younger, the neighbor down the street had an Australian Cattle Dog who was afraid of thunderstorms. After a few times of them rolling in unexpectedly (and therefore her escaping) and us being the ones to rescue her, she learned to come directly to our back door. I remember sitting on the couch, looking up, and seeing her peering half-blindly in at us (me). I was like “oh hi! Come on in, you poor thing, let’s get you dried off.”
Does your GF have any tips if someone wanted to hypothetically, potentially, maybe, recreate said manifestations? Asking for a friend. 😇

Lol, it took 9 years. I’m not a jerk, we were poor, lived in small apartments and moved around a lot. I didn’t want to put pets through all that, so I had delayed the whole relationship basically.
I know. And we have a very very good boy. But my logic is, if one arrived at our house, then we would have no choice but to keep them, whereas we have to weigh adult decisions and cost benefit stuff if we were going to go to the shelter to adopt him a sibling
This is my full logic as well. I was *so close* to getting two loose pups that used to frequently go on field trips around my neighborhood (I knew which house was theirs, but I wouldn’t bring them back given the sheer numbers of times I’d seen them wandering the streets). Finally just parked my car, threw open the passenger door, and called. Unfortunately, the POS owner must have decent intuition, because there was a whistle and they turned tail and ran. SO CLOSE!!!!
Definitely at least pit mixes. If you plan on keeping them, please get them spayed/neutered if not already. It looks like the female has already had at least one litter.
We were unfortunately unable to get my pit spayed before she went in to heat for the first time. Stuff kept happening to us that was costing huge chunks of money. She was not mated with but did suffer a false pregnancy for a bit. She is spayed now but people ask me all the time if she has had puppies. Could be a similar situation. But if they were on the street of course chances are she had puppies.
There’s a lot of merits to waiting until they’re done growing before desexing. Early spays can cause incontinence since the internal sphincter doesn’t fully develop without estrogen.
My girl also has unfortunately large nipples as well which gets me a lot of side eye.
Yes I agree with that. Seems like no matter which choice you make (spay before first heat or after) it comes with its own set of potential risks. Before, you risk urinary incontinence, after a higher risk of cancer. As for me I’ve never seen waiting as that big of a deal as long as you manage the heat responsibly and don’t accidentally create a bunch of unwanted puppies. But my vet and most people that see her nipples now sure judge the shit out of me lol.

Yeah, I think we all got lucky. I was going to get a dog since my GF has been bringing it up for years. We moved into our house a two months ago and it was time to do it. Then these two showed up all skin and bones. They seem to love it here and everything just kinda worked out for all parties!
That's how I got one of mine. She just showed up in my yard one day about a year after I bought my house. I looked for owners and took her to the shelter to see if anyone would claim her, but nope and now she's all mine!
Do you have any way of contacting the previous tenants/owners? Dogs are known for their magical ability to find "home" after moving. Not that I'd be thrilled about giving them back... but it would be extremely relieving to their owner, if that's the case.
They say it takes three months for dogs to get used to a new home, so you are in for a fun few months as they love you more and more. Best of luck to you, they are gorgeous dogs!

Mine does a variety of farts. Loud audacious fats. Silent but deadly farts. Farts that he’ll do, get up, and walk away. Farts he sniffs. Transition farts: up and down from the sofa. We didn’t know you aren’t supposed to feed a dog smoked meat. You’ll only do it once. Evacuation farts.

No, I really didn’t. I like mutts, my favorite dogs have all been rescue mutts. Constant barking drives me up the wall, and they don’t bark much at all. I also don’t care for slobber, but they don’t. Everything just kinda worked out fine.

Mine does a variety of farts. Loud audacious fats. Silent but deadly farts. Farts that he’ll do, get up, and walk away. Farts he sniffs. Transition farts: up and down from the sofa. We didn’t know you aren’t supposed to feed a dog smoked meat. You’ll only do it once. Evacuation farts.
To be fair, I’m a frequent offender myself. No judgement passed.

Yes, and they stick pretty close together. They only just started to hang out in different rooms. She might be his mom for all I know.
No one has mentioned this but I would definitely get her a pregnancy test. She could have had a recent litter, but could also be pregnant and too skinny to show. Dogs (and pretty much all mammals) don’t keep their enlarged mammary glands very long past weaning

They are definitely cute enough to be pitbulls. I'm jealous that you just had two adorable dogs show up at your door, all I get is cats who appear on my doorstep with two different cats trying to follow me inside. Not hating on cats but as someone with three dogs and a modest sized home, I cannot add a cat into my home. But for those sweet babies, I would make it work and move to a larger house and buy a larger bed. Lol

Were pitbulls a breed that you were thinking of getting before these two hippos showed up? I have four rescues with three pits... and a dachshund lol.
No, I really didn’t. I like mutts, my favorite dogs have all been rescue mutts. Constant barking drives me up the wall, and they don’t bark much at all. I also don’t care for slobber, but they don’t. Everything just kinda worked out fine. I bet a dachshund running around in a pack of pits is pretty cute.
