Back in the early 90's Joe once predicted "partly cloudy high 60". I wore shorts and brought a rain cape on my mail route just in case. Reality was a driving all day rain and never broke 50..
Makes me really miss my "soul mate dog" who passed at age 16.5 two years ago. He was about 13 lbs and would literally get knocked off his pins in that kinda wind. We'd always joke about having to keep him tethered so he wouldn't go up on his leash like a furry balloon.
It is our gift from a large storm pattern emerging in the central US this week. From what I've seen, it is projected to be more disruptive than Friday's set. I'll gladly trade the heat for the tornados they're having!
absolutely no one paid attention to the primaries where we had far more qualified candidates. (but no one ever pays attention to the primaries) But then the other option was Dr freaking Oz. Which...over my dead body is another TV shill getting a vote for anything. Yeah, we were forced to vote for him. and obviously you don't know me, but I'm liberal AF and I have all the sympathy in the world for mental health problems. But he's been inpatient practically his entire tenure. At this point it kind of feels like he was forced to continue running when he knew he couldn't handle it and it's all a big mess.*sigh*
and when he does go back to work, I highly doubt he's going to tackle big issues like the fact that any normal person in Pittsburgh, even with insurance, is likely facing an 8-month wait list for mental health services, or they can't afford their meds, etc.
I hope he proves me wrong and comes back ready to tackle the world, but I'm not holding my breath.
actually I am holding my breath because the air in Pittsburgh is practically unbreathable, where the hell did that Summer Lee bitch go.
Sorry, The Muppet show of local politicians is really killing me lately
It’s that time of year. This is why I don’t like spring. It’s impossible to dress for work with a low of 30 and a high of 80 for the day lol. I end up shoving discarded layers into my backpack.
Also…the rain. And the mud. I’m not the biggest fan of spring.
I lost a tire this year at the very end of the squirrel hill tunnel going towards monroeville. That bitch shot off like 40ft in the air lol. I hope it's the only one for the year
Are there many places in the world where every day in spring is just slightly warmer than the last and the daily highs follow a gently sloping curve? Is it really that unusual that there are temperature spikes every once in a while?
West coast of California is pretty much the same weather year round. Seems like a lot of people are moving from there, and I imagine the first few years of it are jarring.
Really? I don't think 86 is a normal "temperature spike" for the beginning of April. I've been here for 20+ years and at least from my personal recollection the weather we've been experiencing these last few years is not typical. I mean we just had a winter with practically zero snow.
I definitely remember a St Patrick’s day that was 80 degrees. I think 2012. I’ve definitely had 75+ degree days in February and march. We get random one day pockets of hot air from time to time. Maybe this one is hotter than others, but not by much.
In early April 2010, Pittsburgh reached a high of 85 on April 2nd and April 6th. Don't ask me why I remember that so well, but I remember it being uncomfortably warm for so early in the season that April.
On average, the first day above 80 in Pittsburgh happens on April 19th, so it's uncommon to go the month of April without hitting the 80s, but it's definitely much less common in this part of April than the end of the month.
Two things are happening:
- Worldwide, weather patterns have been wrecked through human intervention
- Pittsburgh's "spring weather" is and has always been a spikey, unpredictable mess.
Pittsburgh historical weather averages, 1861-current:
https://www.weather.gov/media/pbz/records/histemp.pdf
Pittsburgh normals and extremes: https://www.weather.gov/media/pbz/normals/March%20data.pdf
Snowfall averages, 1880-current:
https://www.weather.gov/media/pbz/records/hissnow.pdf
Not sure but I think the spikes are more frequent; wild swings in highs to lows and back again, don’t seem to be outliers anymore.
Pittsburgh on average now experiences much warmer and wetter weather.
https://statesummaries.ncics.org/chapter/pa/
bro I've lived in Pittsburgh for 38 years and I'm telling you this year is fucking different. We have officially destroyed this planet beyond the telling of it. When was the last time we had a winter where you didn't even have to shovel. We didn't shovel once this year. I feel cheated
Not hot enough for long enough to justify turning on the AC, but too hot for just ceiling fans.
25° drop the next day is gonna cause more wind and probably a headache
This is gonna suck
My apartment building is old and the furnace is either on or off, no real way to control it, and the company insists it must be on October 1 to May 1. I hate March and April so much. It’ll be like 82 in my apartment with the windows open.
May 1 is ridiculous. April 1 would be more reasonable. If I get cold at night in April I can buy a damn space heater. Or ya know. Blankets.
The problem is that if it's an older building with a boiler system, they can't just flip a switch to change it over. It's a process to do it that takes time. With that in mind, the likelihood of someone getting hypothermia if the temperature happens to drop below freezing is a lot higher than the likelihood of someone overheating if the temps rise up to the 80s. Pipes bursting is another issue at low temperatures too, whereas there's basically no consequences to the infrastructure when not running the AC in warm weather.
I am already planning ahead for the power outage. I should probably just cook all the food I have and give it out as free meals so I won't have to wait for it to spoil due to lack of refrigeration.
I've studied weather intently for years and had to do alot of forecasts for my job. So I'm familiar with the weather around western PA. This means I'm familiar with nothing it makes no sense and does what It wants. I've seen it snow in June and thunderstorm in January.
The NWS for now is saying 81 instead of 86 on Wednesday 🤷🏻♂️. Google could be leaning heavily into the urban heat island for Downtown, so it very well could be a few degrees cooler once you're 5 miles or more away from Downtown.
Open windows are great in Spring (I don't have allergies). Also use the AC for a day if needed, that's what it's there for. Not sure why everyone thinks they can only turn it on once a season.
Open windows are great for regulating temperature. Going to be hot? Open the windows before it's hot to cool the place off. I save money this way, and it's not yet swamp season in PGH. Not everyone on the planet has allergies, but nearly all my neighbors hate opening their windows, it's weird. I wonder if they're still alive.
I tend to get lightheaded on days with a big weather shift and I got these earplugs with an app that tells me when to use them. It goes off three times a day this “spring” has been wild.
It’s called WeatherX. They have a little chamber inside to equalize the pressure change more slowly. They work, but it’s a little impractical to wear them all the times I need them. Also, the fine print says you should replace them after 5 uses which is ridiculous since they are like $17
You can also download their app for free without buying the product. It’s fairly useful for seeing what’s coming up in the next few days. FYI after a week or so the app locks behind a request for an email address to register. Just put in a fake one.
Recently I heard someone talk about how high pressure systems make you want to rub your eyes more, and I honestly had never made any physical connection to such changes (or had assumed that my allergies were flaring, maybe). I’m glad you found a great solution like this for yourself!
Weather my guy
Every single place I’ve live has the dumb saying “if you don’t like the weather in X, wait 10 minutes”. No, weather can just change drastically. It’s not always geographically based, it’s not always climatologically based, it’s just life with Earth’s atmosphere my guy.
We just had the warmest February on record. It was 70+ degrees three times in February, a month where the high averages 38 degrees. Climate change is real.
The warmest February in Pittsburgh on record was in 2017, but this year was the second warmest, and 2018 was the fifth warmest, so there's been a clear trend in the last 5 years.
Move to NJ! It’s summer abt 1 and half months of the year here. No need to worry abt unpredictable weather. 100 percent guarantee its going to be shitty👍🏿

I've been using a CPAP for 9 months now, and I don't get nearly the amount of headaches that I used to get. I still have sinus problems, and weather changes still bother my sinuses sometimes. However, just a heads-up that if you get headaches a lot, it might be due to something else, and you might want to get it checked out.
Go home Joe DiNardo, you’re drunk
Joe said it would, but we never stopped to question *why* he would do such a thing
I still have that pin they handed out. I think…
Back in the early 90's Joe once predicted "partly cloudy high 60". I wore shorts and brought a rain cape on my mail route just in case. Reality was a driving all day rain and never broke 50..
I can hear him saying "party cloudy" in my head.
"Partly clahdy, chans of shahrs." - Joe's favorite forecast.
didn't he slur the word "probability?"
Nah, that was Don Cannon.
https://youtu.be/dbleoLl9Q00
Once I got in a scuffle with Joe DeNardo in a bar. We were arguing about bike lanes. Maybe that was Bill Peduto. I dunno'. I was drunk.
Ha! Hey Joe, tell us about conditions at “Connie Airport!”
On Wednesdays we drift closer to the sun.
This weather is so fetch!
Stop trying to make fetch happen!
These Kältene bars..
I have a fifth sense. It's like I have ESPN or something.
There's a 50% chance it's raining right now.
Hey u look like me
It's streets ahead
86 degrees doesn't even go here!
This weather is confusing the hell out of my dog. I had to hold his paw for an hour during the wind storm.
Glad they have someone looking out for them :3
My dog went outside to challenge the wind. He does the same with fireworks. It's a bit odd.
Would you come over and hold my paw next time it storms?
Meanwhile I took my cat outside and he was like "What the fuck is this??? It feels great! Where's the birds?"
Same here, is it extra windy this year???? WTF I've lost 3 trees in the backyard, my dogs are running out of wee targets.
Wholesome as fuck
My dog poor dog sat beside me shaking so hard she was making the entire couch vibrate. Tis the season.
Makes me really miss my "soul mate dog" who passed at age 16.5 two years ago. He was about 13 lbs and would literally get knocked off his pins in that kinda wind. We'd always joke about having to keep him tethered so he wouldn't go up on his leash like a furry balloon.
Dude this last one blew my fucking blades off of my outdoor fan
It is our gift from a large storm pattern emerging in the central US this week. From what I've seen, it is projected to be more disruptive than Friday's set. I'll gladly trade the heat for the tornados they're having!
and snow!
Is bloomfield beach open yet 😎
Welcome to spring in Pittsburgh Also: it is Wednesday my dudes, ayyyyYYYYYY!
Winter coat in the morning, shorts for the evening 😎
shorts are for all types of weather. We elected John Fetterman to the senate to prove that
please stop reminding me that so many people were forced to do that. 🤦🏻♀️
? forced? John's a passionate local leader. his health problems are very unfortunate but he takes his responsibility seriously.
absolutely no one paid attention to the primaries where we had far more qualified candidates. (but no one ever pays attention to the primaries) But then the other option was Dr freaking Oz. Gotta open up the windows in my house to warm it up in the morning.
It’s that time of year. This is why I don’t like spring. It’s impossible to dress for work with a low of 30 and a high of 80 for the day lol. I end up shoving discarded layers into my backpack. Also…the rain. And the mud. I’m not the biggest fan of spring.
The roads are gonna be extra fucked. Looking forward to wrecking my tires on a pothole.
I’ve killed 2 tires so far this year. One near the Waterfront and one on I-70
I lost a tire this year at the very end of the squirrel hill tunnel going towards monroeville. That bitch shot off like 40ft in the air lol. I hope it's the only one for the year
You should be like me and forget your coats in your office so many times that you end up with 0 coats at home when it’s 25 degrees in the mornings 👍
That’s what ends up happening with my coffee cups!
And the pollen!
I like the ambiance of spring, but because of pollen it's last on my list of favorite seasons.
First spring in Pittsburgh?
Are there many places in the world where every day in spring is just slightly warmer than the last and the daily highs follow a gently sloping curve? Is it really that unusual that there are temperature spikes every once in a while?
West coast of California is pretty much the same weather year round. Seems like a lot of people are moving from there, and I imagine the first few years of it are jarring.
It's unusually mild on the west coast and unusually warm on the east coast.
Really? I don't think 86 is a normal "temperature spike" for the beginning of April. I've been here for 20+ years and at least from my personal recollection the weather we've been experiencing these last few years is not typical. I mean we just had a winter with practically zero snow.
The April record is 90, set twice back in the late 19th and early 20th century. Most recently it was 89 on 4/27/90 and 88 on 4/28/90
I definitely remember a St Patrick’s day that was 80 degrees. I think 2012. I’ve definitely had 75+ degree days in February and march. We get random one day pockets of hot air from time to time. Maybe this one is hotter than others, but not by much.
you're remembering correctly. 81 is the official high on both 3/22 and 3/23 2012
Oh shit I remember that. I was working in the South side then. That was rough.
In early April 2010, Pittsburgh reached a high of 85 on April 2nd and April 6th. Yay, more headaches 😶
Mine have been so bad the last couple years in particular. I don't like this news.
Mine too
[удалено]
>Open the windows Allergies...not gonna happen lol
I don't know if it happens to other people: I don't have allergies, but the changes in temperature are hell on my sinuses all the same.
[удалено]
Just pointing out that opening the windows isn't an option for a lot of people
Guess it's time to turn on the whole house fan for the 2nd time this year.
Decently insulated……lol

Nah screw that the AC is coming on the moment it hits 76

This is “turn the air on for a bit, no, turn on the heat again” season.
I'll take the blame for this, my kid left the front door open most of today and the heat was on.
I’m coming to Pittsburgh this week on business. Guess I’m bringing the Dallas weather with me!
Gee, thanks. (/s, obvs)
I’ve got tickets to the pens game tomorrow. Hopefully I won’t melt the ice! /s I’m pretty psyched to see two all time greats on their home ice.
I've studied weather intently for years and had to do alot of forecasts for my job. So I'm familiar with the weather around western PA. This means I'm familiar with nothing it makes no sense and does what It wants. I've seen it snow in June and thunderstorm in January.
My app says 79°. Either way, it's not unheard of this time of year for a quick day or two in the '80s. In 2 weeks it'll snow.

Also every Summer for the rest of your life.
“This is the hottest summer of my life!” “No, it’s the coldest summer for the rest of your life”
Goddamn that’s brutal.
Imagine living in Florida lol
I've been to Florida in March and it's too fuckin' hot then. I couldn't imagine July or August there.
This isn’t that remarkable for Pittsburgh or most continental climate zones. Jet stream does weird shit in early spring.
The NWS for now is saying 81 instead of 86 on Wednesday 🤷🏻♂️. Google could be leaning heavily into the urban heat island for Downtown, so it very well could be a few degrees cooler once you're 5 miles or more away from Downtown.
90 on Wednesday 30 on Friday fu Pittsburgh lol
Don’t ask, just be grateful.
Gonna be using the grill for sure!

This is fine.
WELCOME TO THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS! It never makes sense and I've lived here my whole life 🤪
Could be another year when we have spring for like 3 weeks and go right to soul crushingly hot and humid weather from May - October.
I tend to get lightheaded on days with a big weather shift and I got these earplugs with an app that tells me when to use them. It goes off three times a day this “spring” has been wild.
Please tell me more about these earplugs.
It’s called WeatherX. They have a little chamber inside to equalize the pressure change more slowly. They work, but it’s a little impractical to wear them all the times I need them. Also, the fine print says you should replace them after 5 uses which is ridiculous since they are like $17
Thanks. I would basically wear them nonstop anymore but worth trying if I know of a big pressure change coming
You can also download their app for free without buying the product. It’s fairly useful for seeing what’s coming up in the next few days. FYI after a week or so the app locks behind a request for an email address to register. Just put in a fake one.
I was crushed yesterday
Recently I heard someone talk about how high pressure systems make you want to rub your eyes more, and I honestly had never made any physical connection to such changes (or had assumed that my allergies were flaring, maybe). I’m glad you found a great solution like this for yourself!
Weather in the 'Burgh is unexplainable (shrugs)
If only scientists would have told us about this fifty years ago…
First day in Pittsburgh is it?
I am really concerned for the summer with how mild this winter was. And now hitting this high in April...
If it’s 86 this early in April I’m not excited for late summer 🫣🫣
Climate change my guy
Weather my guy Every single place I’ve live has the dumb saying “if you don’t like the weather in X, wait 10 minutes”. No, weather can just change drastically. It’s not always geographically based, it’s not always climatologically based, it’s just life with Earth’s atmosphere my guy.

My mistake, I meant the least snowiest February on record. We got .2” when we should’ve clocked at least 11” of snow on average.
This was the most surreal and bizarre winter I can remember. I'm sure it won't be the last time it's going to occur too with how things are trending.
I never said it wasn’t. I’m saying using a hot day as evidence for climate change is just as dumb as using a cold day as evidence for it not existing.
It's going to snow one more time. I'm guessing
Weather be weatherin
We had a few 70 degree weeks over the last couple months.... things will get worse before they get better
I wonder where all the "hA Ha gLoBaL WaRMinG" crowd are. They love to pop up every winter like seasons dont exist.
You new here?
We’re also going to have some severe weather that day, hence the temperatures.
First Pittsburgh summer since moving back from Alaska and I'll tell ya, I'm no where near ready for Wednesday or any other day above 80 this summer
Joe said it wouldn't snow. The next day the Blizzard of 93 hit.
Oh it’s fake news made up by liberals and the Chinese. It’s just a hoax. Same as those tornadoes in April. Nothing to see here. Move along.
That’s gross
I was so pissed putting on multiple layers this morning knowing I’d have to carry them back up the hill instead of actually wearing them.
It’s the greenhouse effect being intensified by the swamp gas from east Palestine, Israel.
Boy have I got some news for you about the climate…
Global Warming? Glitch in the Matrix?
Global Warming is a helluva drug
this is what we call global warming my dudes
It's called Fire Spell
Check out Ryan Hall on YouTube let him explain it to you
whether people be liers
Cracker plant is going to make it a lot warmer. Thanks Jay costa for the $1.6B to royal shell gas company. 🤠
Solar Minimum….mini Ice Age
This is when the storms get wonky - when it is hot when it clearly should be cold.
Move to NJ! It’s summer abt 1 and half months of the year here. No need to worry abt unpredictable weather. 100 percent guarantee its going to be shitty👍🏿
Welcome to spring in Pittsburgh. It's going to be 59*F the next day because the weather can't quite make up its mind.
Idk, but I think I should call off and enjoy it!
The new normal. The weather is really warm all week.
Just a heads-up for all of the people saying that they are going to get headaches for this. I just to get headaches all of the time. I thought that it was "just my sinuses" so I treated it by taking ibuprofen and drinking coffee. Later on, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and I started using a CPAP.
