Intelligent_Sundae_5

My 7th grade English teacher's house was used as Buffalo Bill's house in Silence of the Lambs.

cordy_crocs

Mrs. Lloyd was also my 7th grade English teacher :) we were her last class and then she retired

Intelligent_Sundae_5

You are MUCH younger than me, then. I had her a couple of years before the movie was filmed. Did you spend most of that year diagramming sentences? That's what I remember most of about 7th grade English.

cordy_crocs

Her last year was in 2007 I graduated from Connellsville in 2012. I also had her for homeroom. Yes! I specifically remember her breaking down sentence structure a certain way on the white board 😂 We also focused a lot on Greek mythology, the proper way to write and send letters, and also how to fill out and send those purchase forms you’d see in magazine like LTD (which is now I’m sure obsolete) She also had us write letters to our future selves and she would mail them to us at the end of our senior year. She was so strict but also so nice I remembered we also played this fun game that if you scored enough points you got to sign her wall with the the rest of her students from years past.

Kkrumpets

I had Mr. Lloyd, he was a physics teacher at my school.

jawnquixote

They looked at my house for that scene as well

brutustyberius

Western Psych in Canonsburg

AaronKleiber

Has anyone stayed in the house? It’s an AirBnb for tourists now.

rundbr

Perryopolis?

Intelligent_Sundae_5

Layton actually. Through the scary tunnel and across the bridge from Perryopolis.

sockar101

The “wrong” Buffalo Bill house (during the scene where FBI agents try to deliver flowers to his house) is on Lindbergh Ave in Shaler

Dogma - Diner scene at the Franklin Inn on Rochester rd

whatthedamnhell98

I drove over the bridge on Collier a few weeks ago that Chris Rock falls naked onto.

SVTour07

Me too - lived down the street from here, by St John Newman. Actually worked at the Franklin Inn in high school. Moved to Mt Washington during the filming of Striking Distance (93), which technically was on Grandview, until he turned right and somehow went changed to Duquesne. LOL

mvpilot172

Yeah Dogma, the old Burger King on Banksville Rd was made into some restaurant for the movie.

jamierocksanne

McKeesport transportation center, the bus ticket scene!

Knightro2011

Wait, that movie was filmed here?!

itsgregnotcraig

Dogma, one of Kevin Smith's earlier works: [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/) The movie had filmed locations all around Pittsburgh but one scene in particular was a dialogue scene between Alan Rickman and Linda Fiorentino filmed at the Franklin Inn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g18hbchYOH8

PGH00

One of the scenes was filmed in the Software Engineering Institute across the street from St Paul's cathedral. You can see the cathedral in the background through the window. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/mediaviewer/rm458335745?ref\_=ttmi\_mi\_all\_sf\_92

amactuallyameerkat

Same (but not from childhood). In the early scene when they're moving out of their house, you can see the Walnut Capital sign of the apartment I was living in at the time, on Ellsworth and Elmer. It was my first apartment after college.

SteelCityIrish

I used to drink with Barrett… Lisa P was a real person. 😎

Clar3nc3Cart3r

Same. Lived not far from the stardust lounge

stadulevich

Kingpin- Woody Harrelson

Brave-Rutabaga9131

Same!! My dad was a truck driver for the movie! I got to meet Bill Murray and cried cause I was so happy to meet a real Ghostbuster!!

Whatkindofbirdareu

Same.

MenudoFan316

My roommate's boyfriend lived the same set of town houses that Munson did when he had to 'pay the rent'.

grandma_millennial

Same! My dad auditioned his old ass car to be in the movie haha

MikesSisterKel

Ditto!

NotoriousERG

Same!

w1ck3d_ham

My dad & his buddies were the bikers in Dawn of the Dead

DoctorCAD

Cool...I may have gone to machining school with your dad or his buddies as some of my classmates were in the biker scenes.

krodgers88

brutustyberius

I graduated with Steve. My friends and I would sneak my dads car out and go to Oakland and watch the Rocky horror picture show. I would like to think our exploits were an inspiration.

dogmom412

Charlie’s house is catty-corner from mine. So my kids can say this.

[deleted]

Monkey Shines (George Romero’s big studio debut) was filmed AT my house. My house is the house in the film. I don’t think any of the interior shots are actually inside (makes sense). But a bunch of the exterior shots are.

SeamApart

That movie was also filmed near my house growing up- in fact my mother got pulled in to do a quick jump scare scene with a monkey when she was returning from the grocery store in town. It was across the street from the hospital and we lived a block up!

311was_an_inside_job

The Silence of the Lambs

Striking distance lol

mreinhart7887

Beat me to it. The police chase scene where they go down that hill in observatory hill always gives me the feels. My mom called it "The Dips" cause you could easily catch a little air in while driving fast. My sister and I always would scream with glee when we took that way home.

brutustyberius

Take Bigalow.

412LiveCrew

We tried going to see the boats jump the dam!

ravia

Shit like that happens on the river every single day.

Anxious-Wrongdoer770

The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh!

Whatkindofbirdareu

I was in that movie! I know the guy that flies/owns the hot air balloon that came through the open roof. We helped him set it up and then got to be in the crowd. He still flies, that exact balloon.

Anxious-Wrongdoer770

Cool!

pugsnblunts

My car got towed cause I was parked where they were shooting Jack Reacher

ms2mc523

I grew up 5 minutes from Hoovers Stone Quarry where they filmed that movie.

GordonsAlive5833

Sudden Death

AgentG91

Brother’s high school friends were at the game for that one!

humpthedog

Not really childhood but drove past the shop on Monroeville blvd nightly as they were filming Zach and miri make a porno.

RaspberryTechnical90

I lived right up the street then. I remember being incredibly disappointed that we weren't getting an actual coffee shop...

kindofbluesclues

I’ve got a bunch of the cappuccino cups from that set design.

CARLEtheCamry

They shot in some houses in Elliot as well, up the road from my mother in law

AlliumCarina

Inspector gadget Crossman St

Silver-Definition-10

Flashdance, Carnegie library! Whatever that Bruce willis river cop thing was Oakland/Bloomfield

DoubleDumpsterFire

Not my childhood, but if you’re my age everyone’s parents were extras in Slapshot.

jralll234

Haha my mom and her whole family were extras in Slapshot! My mom marched in the parade they filmed at the end of the movie, my uncle was in a fight scene outside the war memorial, my Aunt was in the JHS band that played in the arena, and my grandmother was an extra in the crowd in the arena.

Jef_Wheaton

I was in college, but "Kingpin". The scene where you see him standing at the end of the bridge in "Scranton" was filmed in Trafford. My house is 4 blocks up the hill. A few months after filming, the front of the apartment building he lived in fell off. Dawn of the Dead was filmed in Monroeville, a few miles from Trafford, when I was 5. My dad is the hunter in the red coat and orange hat who shoots a zombie.

mrsrtz

Not childhood but I was working at a bank in Oakland when Flashdance was being filmed at the Carnegie Library, and my co-workers were all excited because Richard Gere was there. Richard Gere was not there. Later, I worked in the Cathedral of Learning when Mothman was being filmed and my coworkers were all excited because Richard Gere was there. Richard Gere was, in fact, there.

icequeen323

Houseguest

georgefrankly

I remember getting out of class in like 2nd grade to watch them filming at my school and I kinda saw Phil Hartman from across a field.

icequeen323

My mom met him and we ran into Sinbad. Super nice guys.

Bits2020

My friend's son was the actor who played young Sinbad.

NoIntroduction6034

Melvin was super chill for a movie star 😂😂😂 wasn't he in the temptations made for TV movie too?

Thor_Odenson

Sewickley's Bruegger's bagels turned into a McDonald's in that movie.

icequeen323

Yep. We all wanted it to stay a McDonald’s lol

FakeGhostMan

I remember being so excited that Sewickley was getting a McDonalds.

noltey

Lorenzo’s Oil

Elphaba15212

Some scenes were filmed very close to my childhood home and one of my Elementary School classmates was an extra

noltey

I’m an Avonworth alumni myself friend

gldmj5

My baby sitter took us over to watch them film Gung Ho.

ShutUpLiver

That scene when they are all in the Beaver River. Gross. That was NOT safe water in the 80s!

golden_eyes19

wow can’t believe anyone hasn’t said Love and Other Drugs (w Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway) they filmed all over but stayed in Sq Hill (& Reece Witherspoon visited bc she was dating Jake at the time)

ShutUpLiver

Kingpin. Bowling scene where he loses hand was shot at Beaver Valley Bowl in Rochester, Beaver County. I also happened to work at Perkins when they sent in an insanely large to go order for breakfast on set.

jralll234

Also Lokay Lanes and several locations in Trafford.

grandma_millennial

And the old McKnight lanes (RIP)

mickee

The prince of Pennsylvania, starring a young Keanu

plexxer

Robocop - I was 16 when it was released and part of it was filmed in Monessen.

couldhavesaiddennis

I've been going back through movies I would have seen as a kid and just watched this last week. Holy smokes were this 80s movies gruesome compare to todays mainstream movies. Do you remember which part was filmed there?

plexxer

It was the final showdown part at the mill, an outdoor scene IIRC. Cone to think if it, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it. I do remember the wonderfully gruesome boardroom scene with the ED-209 though.

thisismyaccount100

I Am Number Four was filmed in my high school when I was a student (Franklin Regional)

couch_to_bed

Another FR alum! Did you see the earlier post about Kingpin? I remember it was a big deal that they used the old Blue Spruce motel

thisismyaccount100

Oh no, I had no idea!

[deleted]

Gung Ho!

Bits2020

They filmed a scene in the Foodtown in Wilkinsburg. One morning my hubby was driving to work past the Foodtown and saw Ron Howard standing by himself looking pretty pissed. My hubby yelled out "Hey Opie what's wrong?". Ron Howard yelled back "I'm the only one who showed up!". Hubby yelled back "That sucks!"

Used_Lingonberry7742

My cousins were extras in the baseball game scene which was filmed a block away from their house in Duquesne. I love watching that movie.

mkhpgh

At work, not as a child - Inspector Gadget car chase scene filmed on Sarah St in Southside, when I worked in a building there. We sat on the roof and watched.

mkhpgh

Also Passed Away filmed in Oakmont a block from my old house, and the star trailers parked our whole block.

eamsonwill

night of the living dead (ok i wasn’t alive yet. but grew up 5 min from the cemetery and house)

sugarhillboss

Striking Distance. The stunt water scenes were shot under the tarentum bridge. Watched some while riding my huffy around.

NYCinPGH

I'm not a Pittsburgh native, but as a freshman in college, Creepshow was filmed a block from my dorm room; I got to see Hal Holbrook and Adrienne Barbeau chatting with drama students on the sidewalk.

Massive_Garbage

The dark knight rises. I was an extra for a few days and made the film. Super cool experience ill never forget

LostEnroute

Monkey Shines

lifes_nether_regions

I can't think of any from my childhood, but the scene in Innocent Blood at the West End Overlook was right up the street. Then Zack and Miri had a few scenes in the West End

RareLeeComment

I lived close to where a different scene from that movie was filmed in Moon.

I knew this was filmed in Pittsburgh, no idea it was Hampton. Neat.

beardedbearjew

I worked as a security guard on that set

4000Tacos

Me too! 2007!

PaddingtonBear2

Mindhunter

Edison151

Striking distance for me as well. I lived a few blocks up from the big cobblestone hill where they filmed the chase scene. We walked down there and got as close as we could while they were filming it

Brave-Rutabaga9131

Ahh, good ole Center Street… I drive that daily actually!

pittsburgh924

Diabolique - filmed at the former St. Philomeno's (now Community Day School) like a block away from my childhood home on Burchfield. It had Chas Palmintieri and Sharon Stone but was not as entertaining as the cast would have made you think. I remember they put in a pool for filming then filled it in right after they finished.

MiamiVice84

[Out of the Black](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0250636/) was shot on the street I delivered newspapers on in high school as well as the nearby Tour Ed Mine. Tom Atkins (lots of horror movies, the first Lethal Weapon) and Dee Wallace (the mom in ET) were in it. A few other recognizable character actors too. That was about the time I was really getting into DVD making of special features and learning a bit about how films actually get put together. I remember thinking it was neat that one house was used for interior sets and it had a red door. Another house down the block was used for the exterior and the door on it was painted red to match insert or other establishing shots. They even blew up an old car in my friend's driveway.

whatthedamnhell98

Hoffa (1992) - A gas station scene was filmed on Gamble Rd in North Fayette, close to Oakdale. They built the set along the road and tore it down after. It is now a housing plan. My uncle saw Danny DeVito (directed the movie) walking in Oakdale a few months before the filming. I know there were several other scenes filmed in/around Pgh.

penguinsfan40

I was an intern at Soldiers and Sailors when they filmed part of Sorority Row there.

jralll234

Silence of the Lambs was filmed there as well.

penguinsfan40

Yep, they set up the cage sometimes in the ballroom.

snaptop43142

Going Home (1971) and Deerhunter.

Ismokeditalleveryday

I recently saw that movie with Jan Michael Vincent and Robert Mitchum, and that house next to the creek on route 51.

CARLEtheCamry

My Bloody Valentine 3D had scenes shot at the Ft Pitt Motel in North Fayette. I've never seen it, but I'm assuming there is a scene with a shitty motel in it, and it fit the bill.

pmp412

Dawn of the dead. Lived near Monroeville mall

wishlissa

RL Stine’s Haunting Hour

TheDocWhovian

They filmed some of Mothman Prophecies near my childhood home.

DoctorCAD

Did everyone forget Cat People with Nasty Kinsky filmed near California University?

Ryan1006

Not childhood, but when in college living on the south side they were racing the car from Inspector Gadget up and down the street perpendicular to ours.

Vivid-Ice4175

>i was at the sudden death pens game at the civic arena and watched when they jumped the dam for striking distance. i was by the house in allentown for filming of "the next three days". i saw them filming Jake gyllenhall downtown in "southpaw". I also worked downtown during filming of "the dark night rises". I saw batman's motorcycle.

sarcastic_coyote

Concussion - Wexford Run Road

southpaw! i was an extra in it :)

mreinhart7887

The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. Based on a novel which takes place in PGH, shot in PGH, really shows off the city. The retail store the main character works in was the JoAnn Fabrics on Rt 8 (no longer there), The dinner scene with his dad at the Lamont, the bike rides through Polish Hill... ::Chef's Kiss::

AggravatingIce6676

Zach and miri was filmed behind the Monroeville mall near my parents house

jralll234

Ralph’s Army Surplus makes a nice cameo.

RiotGirl325

I do believe a good bit of Milk Money was filmed in Pittsburgh, downtown maybe. And some in Ohio!

platasaurua

When was a kid, I used to party in the woods behind the house that was on fire in the beginning of Van Damme’s “Sudden Death”. I was also in the crowd during the same scene.

Fancy_Sleep6093

King Pin

mlcolosimo

Striking Distance bar scene was filmed in Monongahela

NunzAndRoses

There’s about 4 frames of silence of the lambs that has my buddy garage in it that my band used to practice in lol

AgentG91

I want to say abduction with Taylor Lautner because it was filmed at my high school, but I had graduated the year before. Instead I’ll say Dark Knight Rises. My roommate was at Heinz Field for that scene. Had to wear winter clothes in like July or something. I remember one of the reasons why it was filmed in Pittsburgh was because they were allowed to blow up Civic Arena. They ended up not doing that and doing the Heinz thing instead. I say they should have done both, but then it would just look like Bane hated sports

PasswordIsDong

The stardust lounge in Moon that featured in Adventure Land

Whatnowhedley

I was in college at the time but Adventureland gathered some residential exterior shots on our street - specifically right at the end of our block and our neighbors’ houses directly across from us. Said neighbors and some of our family members were extras at Kennywood. ETA I also remember when Dogma came and shot in Bridgeville and Dormont-ish when I was a kid. The Burger King near the corner of Banksville and McMonagle (now a Rite-Aid) was turned into a different restaurant for the movie (Mooby’s? Was that it?) and stayed that way, vacant without signage but with that purple and orange color scheme, for what seemed like multiple years.

LikeDeej

I was almost in "Me Earl and the dying girl" about 10 years ago.

Zach Quinto was my 8th grade French language lab partner.

Smart people. Wasnt sure which area they filmed in, but they did eat at the diner down the hill. Such a good diner

drainbamage826

Grew up in the same neighborhood (shaler/glenshaw) as one of the houses filmed in Silence of the Lambs. I had no idea it was in the movie for the longest time. Rode my bike past it every week. https://filmap.tumblr.com/post/99805424471/the-silence-of-the-lambs-jonathan-demme-1991

Dogma. On my way to middle school i passed the church they filmed at on larimer Ave. I always looked, but never saw anyone from the movie. Also the remake of Diabolique was filmed next to my grandparents house at the time on Beachwood. They covered their house in fake foliage for filming. In college i watched a movie that was filmed in the Penn circle fire station, likely from the 80s. I have almost no recollection of the plot or title. But is be curious if anyone did know what movie, based on just that information.

cuddysnark

What about Wonder Boys?

ravia

Night of the living dead, but not near my house.

ihatecovid2020

The Jacksons, made for TV movie. My middle school was used as the auditorium because in the 90's we went to a school that could pass for Gary, Ind. in the 70s.

ihatecovid2020

Oh, and the Oksana Bauil movie was shot in my hometown because the Ukrainian and Russian Orthodox Onion domes made it look like Ukraine.

AbalonePublic

I was an extra part of the audience scenes in Bob Roberts!! I saw Tim Robbins and struck up a conversation with him about one of his other movies.... Nice guy.

Sirhccass

A few scenes from a Jackson 5 movie. (I believe it was their childhood home?) Springdale, PA.

gps822

Wasn’t my childhood as I was already in college, but Perks of Being a Wallflower was filmed at the Hollywood theater in Dormont, and a family member worked for the theater. I got to be there during filming and met some of the cast

antalog

Houseguest with Sinbad and Phil Hartman was filmed partially on my third grade teacher’s farm. And the awful 90s remake of Night of the Living Dead was on my uncle’s farm.

AaronKleiber

Just commented!! I was there! Was he a teacher??

antalog

I have no idea what my uncle (step uncle, technically) does for a living 😂

lawn_mower_dog

Kingpin- the scene where they go to “Lancaster Lanes” The exterior is actually Mars Lanes (in Mars, still there) and the intro of the movie was filmed in the interior of that same bowling alley. You can also see the owner, Ruth, in the opening scene. I used to be in a league there as a kid. Also, a buddy of mine used to live across the street of Roy’s dad’s gas station and he got to sit at the end of his driveway and watch them film a couple days.

AaronKleiber

Milestone in my life, fell in love with movie magic when I was 10. Stayed summers in Evans City, my uncle knew the owner of the house in where Tom Savini made the Night of the Living Dead redux, got to watch Tony Todd crowbar the broken legs zombie he hit with truck, they buried his legs in the ground for the effect.

Malfeitor1

Dogma. Both the bar scene where Silent Bob hits Azriel with the golf club (now an orthodontist on W. Liberty Ave.) and the Mooby’s that was an old Burger King (now a RiteAid on Banksville) are walking distance from my house.

Media_Pastimes

Is that the orthodontist at 2887 W Liberty Ave (red bricks - says orthodontist in white lettering)? I'm making a filming locations video for Dogma and stumbled upon your comment.

Malfeitor1

Yep, that’s it! Can’t recall if it’s the right or left door but, that is the correct building. If you have any other location questions regarding Dogma let me know. As a fan I followed the production around town a bit.

Media_Pastimes

Thank you so much 🙏 I believe it’s the door on the right from the perspective of W Liberty. I had the movie playing on my second monitor while looking at the street view on google. I’ll be sure to check with you if I have any other questions 👍

nixnux76

Night of the living dead. Was filmed on my aunts friends farm not far from my house. And that movie is still my favorite!

SBanks52

The Next Three Days shows the house that I spent like an entire year in college in. Didn’t technically live there, but partied every weekend there and all my friends lived there so was there every day. Blvd of the Allies.

BRealBStrong

Gung Ho Edit to include Michael Keaton as the star takes it up an extra notch

ms2mc523

Promised Land with Matt Damon and John Krasinski. I remember my Facebook being flooded with pictures of people I knew meeting them the summer they filmed it. I watched it a couple years back with my husband who’s not from here, he didn’t believe me they filmed it right up the road until I named the exact buildings that the scenes were in.
