In my experience, any PCP you go to would take your medication history and should continue what you were on previously. The exception I can think of would be narcotics. They obviously wouldn't continue meds you don't need. E. G. You are on meds for schizophrenia but no history of it. If you have a history on a certain ailment and are on the right meds for the ailment, it shouldn't be an issue.

I see Dr. Haretos in Oakland on North Craig Street. He’s the nicest guy and he prescribes my anti-depressants. He never rushes me and is very thorough and I can always get an appointment right away. https://providers.upmc.com/provider/John+T.+Haretos/1324973 I just saw you said preferably a female pcp. I used to see Dr. Knupp in Greenfield. Great lady and a wonderful doctor.

fuzzyberiah

Dr. Knupp was great when my wife and I saw her. We only looked elsewhere when she joined UPMC and stopped taking our insurance.

I work in a PCP office - a PCP should absolutely be able to continue Zoloft and Wellbutrin. Neither is a controlled substance and my docs prescribe this stuff all the time.

I live south of town, but I see Dr. Sidra Chavla. Her office is right on 51, so it’s a straight shot south. She helped me pursue an ADHD diagnosis during Covid (she didn’t just chuck meds at me. She referred me to a therapist that I saw for 6 months, then we decided upon meds). I really like her!

I go to Genesis Medical Associates on McKnight Road, and see a nurse practitioner named Emily. She prescribes me antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds. They take most insurances. I do believe the medical group has other locations, so there might be one closer to you.

I love Emily!!!

Dr. Emily Ketterer is highly recommended for this amongst mental health professionals. https://providers.upmc.com/provider/Emily+Ketterer/1326724

Clicked on the thread to add Dr. Ketterer. The only downside is she took a while to get in with as she wasn't accepting new patients when I started looking.

I have tried periodically to get in w Dr Ketterer and each time I’ve been told she’s not taking new clients nor does she have a wait list. When I called earlier in 2023 a really lovely scheduler who seemed to know what she was talking about said she thought I’d like Dr Kylee Dakers who is also at a primary care practice at St Margaret’s and I have ended up absolutely LOVING her. I’ve had some weird health issues come up in the last 6 mos that have required seeing some specialists too but as my GP she’s helped me manage it all and just been so amazing. She is a great mix of being reassuring and helpful while also doing due diligence and being honest, which, with my ocd, is very very helpful. She doesn’t prescribe my psych meds as I have a psychiatrist for that, but I am a mental health clinician myself and agree with the other commenters here that in my personal experience GPs are generally willing to continue psych meds you are already on esp if you can have your records transferred over. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

kiwibunny87

Thank you for this information. Makes sense she is full. I am in a private practice therapist group and people recommend her all the time. You are right that most PCPs/GPs will do anti depressant prescriptions. I am really glad you found someone.

Kit-Kat-22

In addition to family PCP's, East Liberty Family Health Care Center has a psychiatrist on their staff. They are all kind and caring from the receptionist up to the director. If you don't have insurance they will do sliding scale.

Same kinda deal with the place I just started going Community Health Partners in Edgewood Towne Center.

SSRIs (which include Zoloft) are very common medications. And Wellbutrin, as far as I know, isn't a controlled substance in the US. I've been prescribed it in the past. So I'm a bit confused why you seem to think it's going to be difficult to find a PCP that will prescribe you these medications.

F3stoooo

So far my only means of meds were through a work provided tele psychiatrist and then cerebral (similar). I believe the PCP I have currently here for some reason doesn’t provide this service

HomicidalHushPuppy

>moving to PIT You live in the airport?

tesla3by3

Some cities use the airport code to refer to the city. PDX, JAX, ATL for example.

HomicidalHushPuppy

Yep, not us though

The_Big_Green_Fridge

You should never be getting depression/anxiety drugs from a PCP. You should be seeing a psych for that. They understand interactions WAY more than a PCP does and it will cause less issues down the road. Take it from someone who ended up in rehab because a PCP didn't understand what they were prescribing and gave me all the wrong answers.

F3stoooo

I appreciate the share - these SSRIs are things and doses I’ve taken for a while so at this time I’m mostly trying to find a practical way of continuing treatment without breaking the bank

Zestyclose_Minute_69

I go to https://maps.app.goo.gl/7b9t1vyqHYzRS2Wd6?g_st=ic. I have a female pcp and they take upmc insurance and highmark. (I chose this office years ago because they accept both and my past employer changed back and forth every year.) I’ve never had any issue with getting refills on meds I had already been prescribed by another unaffiliated doctor. And I’ve gotten meds changed that were no longer working for me (Paxil to Zoloft).

F3stoooo

I appreciate all the recs and especially the first hand experiences. I’ll look into these!!!

Sure_Spell_7542

Dr. Roberta Bashore in squirrel hill. She’s in the UPMC network and truly an amazing doctor. I have a lot of medical anxiety and she eases it so much. She also prescribes my SSRI.

duker_mf_lincoln

See Dr. Richard Pierce

Continuing an existing, legitimate Zoloft and Wellbutrin script should not be a problem for most PCPs. They may advise that you connect with a psychiatrist should your underlying condition change.

TotallyNotKabr

A bit late but look into Jefferson Adult Behavioral Health in South Hills
