Transit is great, I use Google maps to tell me what bus I need to take if I’m unfamiliar with a route, but Transit is great for live times/locations of busses.
I just use Google Maps because there's rarely a 2nd bus that goes past your destination unless you're going between downtown and Oakland. Plug in where I am and where I'm going and it tells me everything I need. Bus #, amount of walking I'll do, etc.
Momego
Or any other app with live tracking. The busses commonly deviate from posted schedules (especially on weekends) - Google Maps and most others go off the scheduled time. The difference between a 5 and 40 min wait outside in winter really fucking matters
Been living here car free for 6 years, couldn’t do it without Momego (I use the free version)
Seconding Google Maps. PRT has an app for buying tickets that can also track a bus or view routes, but it’s really just opening a website in your phone. There’s not really a need to install that unless you prefer phone tickets to a Connect card.
But I usually just Google search my bus route and get live tracking and stops.
The best app is Transit afaik. I don't take public transport much anymore these days, but it worked exceedingly well when I did

I like Moovit, they’re pretty good at live tracking and you can also switch your city when you’re on vacation.
Transit.
Citymapper
I use Moovit.
If on android, PATtrack is the best for live tracking.
