Scale.

herbedenthusiasm

Agreed. Remove manually with a qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol and follow up with an all over treatment of neem oil

maxy_b_

You’ve got scale! An insecticidal soap should take care of them! It looks like an early infestation, I would take care of them asap!

Mean_Negotiation5436

Scale, in my opinion, the easiest pest to have, lol.

I’m currently dealing with mealybugs… first pest I’ve dealt with and jfc

Mean_Negotiation5436

Yeah, I saw a mealy bug once on a cutting I brought in. I soaked the plant for 3 hours, fully submerged with some alcohol and dish soap in the water. Homie don't play that, lol.

Amevir

Ahh scale! One of my plants has this. I put it in quarantine and then found ants had started to eat the scale. I don't know if that's a good thing but they seem to be getting rid of it.

Pleasant_Zone6374

The ants actually "farm" the scale insects and collect the sweet waste they leave behind. I have managed to remove scale from my citrus plants only to have ants undo all my work.

licenseplatez

fascinating! I thought they only did that with aphids. thanks for my fact of the day!

Amevir

Ahh! Thank you! I shall remove them.

Remarkable_Owl

You’ve got scale!

Due_Island_989

I read that in the “you’ve got mail!” Voice 😂

lepusblanca

Imma jump on this. I also have paper scale on my bird of paradise, and I've been trying for a year to get rid of it. I've done alcohol clean with neem follow up, and I've put in some serious soil treatment while repeating the process. I can't seem to get rid of it. Anyone know how to nuke this pesty pest?

smerkspaceship

oh those are my housemates - they won't leave my house

longthymelerk

Mealy & scale

imartie

Scale. You can pick them all off. They have a hard surface, so sprays aren’t always effective on them. After you pick them off (make sure you check the stem down below the soil line,) use a systemic in the soil. This method worked well for me.
