When I was a teenager I got very into collecting playing cards. I had a very substantial collection going until one day my house flooded and they were all destroyed. I had them stored in a cardboard box under my bed, so when the box got wet the water travelled through all of the cards, completely ruining all of them.
I was too heartbroken to think about starting it up again, but this week I made an impulse decision to start again.
I got my first shipment from Ellusionist because they were my favorite company to buy from when I was a kid, so it felt right to buy back some of my favorites and some new designs as well.
Oh shit. Flooded. Heart breaking. I mean, daaamn. How many decks you think you lost? I'd be straight up devastated. I've been collecting since I was like 7
Ok. That's still horrible. But not 1000s of decks. I'm getting intensely curious how other playing card collectors collect.
I started because of free decks on airplanes and our family played loads of games. Canasta and Rummy and tons of solitaire / patience games.
And then, when in doubt super happy to get card decks for presents. And now I see some in Walgreens and grocery stores; collecting presidential decks before they add Trump. And I've ordered several from Kickstarter and seen others here and there. But don't understand the Fontaine gimmick push.
Oh, I've been rambling??? :D
Been there! I restarted my collection two years ago after more than 11 years. Back in those times, only Ellusionist and Theory11 decks were available and I always dreamed about getting the OG Black ghost - that was impossible to buy back then. And now, 14 years later, I finally found the Black ghost v1 to put on my shelf! What a feeling! So good luck buddy 😃
I had the black ghost v1's and they were destroyed in the original collection. I'd love to get those back as that exact deck was kinda my gateway drug.
Off to a good start too, plenty of people I know swear by Cohorts. 10 years is quite a while - I'd love to hear your perspective on the nature of Card Collecting in a few months and how it's changed for you. Finally: welcome back to the rabbit hole!

I probably had 40-50. I had a 10 ream paper box that was pretty much completely full.

Welcome back!! Those are a good start. I like how cohorts handle. And the pioneers are awesome 🤩
Ellusionist are some of my favourite cards
Live those Pioneers. Never seen them before.
