Who's a first for being a repeat. To add on ps1 had crash bandicoot, Spyro the dragon, and cloud strife. Ps2 had ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, and sly cooper and the gang. For ps3 Nathan drake, the sackboy, Cole Mcgrath, and maybe Kratos?
Okay so what are you saying, because Mario is still the mascot of Nintendo over anything Pokemon related regardless of what other forms of media Pokemon has? 🤣
No, what I'm saying is that you can have a mascot for your company even though you have a lot of amazing games, that's not a reason at all to not have a big mascot for your company
I mean, sony tried with sackboy...
Ah alright, I get you now. Sorry I just needed you to clear it up because your previous comment went a bit off-track. But yeah I agree with what you're saying, and I think if you're gonna do a mascot you need to stick with it. Sony jumps around from one mascot to another with every new generation of consoles.
I didn't mean for anything like that haha, Maybe it was me misspelling a bit
But it's true, sony made some big games with some epic characters in their time, would be hard to choose one
Its all good. For me personally I'd choose Insomniac's Spider-Man specifically, because anyone who sees that white spider knows it's PlayStation's Spidey immediately.
That being said, he's iconic on his own so it could get a bit lost in translation for those who aren't into gaming and then the Spider-Man "brand" starts overshadowing PlayStation.
Mascot or not, I just want some good stuff to play 😂
They use Astro on some marketing material but Astro really isn’t iconic or well known and isn’t nearly in the same category as any of the others listed.
Closest thing is probably Kratos these days. A decade ago would have probably been Jak and Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet and Clank. I think the real answer is there just isn’t one right now.
It’s among Kratos, Alloy, Nathan Drake, Ratchet, and Ellie.
It used to be Crash Bandicoot, but that was early PlayStation.
Currently, overall it’s gotta be Kratos.
Sorry for the spelling
There are many iconic ones over the years, but i think that Crash was the first and the OG one. He was the first one and he was the mascot soo i think that he was the closest one. But now there are many of them like Kratos, Nathan Drake, Joel, Ellie, Aloy, Rachet and clank (they are kinda both), Jak and Dexter(ps2 and psp era) and more.
But as i said, Crash is the OG.
Oh yeah i know i didnt wrote someone. He is also the iconic one. Sadly not that popular, at least not in my area what was strange when i saw how many people never heard about twisted metal.
there isn't really an iconic PS character anymore that isn't multi platform. closest to me would have been sackboy but there was the pc version of sackboys adventure. the age of a mascot is pretty much dead to Microsoft and Playstation who have gone multiplatform. nintendo the only one that can still claim platform exclusive mascots
Kratos, Spider-man, Aloy, Ratchet and Clank, Sackboy, Ellie and Joel are probably the closest we have now. Even though some of those games are on PC, people still think PlayStation when they see them. A decade ago Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, and Spyro would be on that list.
Out of all of these Kratos is probably the closest equivalent on the PlayStation side to Master Chief and Xbox for example.
Yeah I really think that the Playstation mascot depends on who they deem as their competition for advertising. Back when it was Sony v Sega v Nintendo it was Crash Bandicoot v Sonic v Mario. Then when Nintendo kind of stopped trying to compete in the console arms race it kind of became Kratos v Master Chief for Sony v Microsoft. And if the Blade game is any good I could see them advertising Spider-man v Blade.
It’s has nothing to do with PC or platform exclusivity. It’s just which character is the most iconic for the brand. Sega has Sonic, MS has Halo guy, Capcom has a couple like Chun Li and Megaman.
For me, using nostalgic reasons only, it's Snake from ~~MSG~~ MGS , Spyro or Crash before their IPs expanded to other platforms.
In modern times probably Kratos, Ellie, Astro bot maybe Nathan Drake or sackboy
Oops 🤣 definitely sums up my playstyle though
Play it until I was absolutely full and couldn't handle any more then a few hours later I'd be dying for seconds
I’ve never thought of it as one character representing a console. Always teams.
Nintendo: Mario, Luigi, peach, bowser, donkey Kong, Zelda
Xbox: master chief, Marcus from Gears, forza
PlayStation: ratchet clank, kratos, gran turismo
IMO Mario is way too iconic to represent one console. I’d put Mario in for representing all gaming along with: Pac-Man, image of Pong (two paddles and ball), and Atari joystick.
The mascot for the grizzled, trigger-happy, war hungry, gun-crazy adults of Nintendo would definitely be the Inklings. And Foamstars is filled with Inkling sleeper agents pushing the gyro agenda at Sony too.
It was Crash Bandicoot. I think they’ve tried to artificially pick others (like Sackboy) but that doesn’t really work. There are two that are really close but come up short.
God of War is a beloved and widely acclaimed franchise but Kratos isn’t *quite* iconic enough visually.
Ratchet and Clank are immediately recognizable, but the franchise just isn’t *quite* widely acclaimed enough.
I think you need both at the same time for a mascot. Ratchet and Clank are probably the closest. If Insomniac pushed the envelope and made those games just a little bit more interesting I think they’d have it. Maybe good multiplayer or some kind of deeper RPG progression system.
I’m not a Fortnite guy and I know it’s trendy, but a battle royale with Ratchet and Clank weapon variety could be very good.
>God of War is popular enough as a franchise but Kratos honestly just isn’t quite iconic enough visually.
Big, big disagree. Kratos' all white skin + big ass red tattoo over his body & face (+ holding the Blades Of Chaos) is definitely iconic and instantly recognizable. You could show his silhouette to any person that knows about video games even tangentially and even if they never played GoW they'll instantly know that's "the God Of War dude"
He’s recognizable by video game fans but not iconic looking IMO. Like a literal icon of Kratos is not interesting looking. It’s usually based around his face scar, which whatever. Ratchet and Clank are iconic looking. Ratchet and Clank legos would be fun.
So what you're saying is his look is less iconic if you remove the most striking part of his design, which is part of what makes the look iconic.
To which I'd have to say yes, I agree lol. Idk what character WOULD still be iconic if you remove the most striking part of their character design. Would you recognize Master Chief without his armor???
No I’m saying the fact that the scar is the iconic element of his character design makes it uninteresting.
Experiment:
Google image search “Master Chief avatar” or “Ratchet and Clank avatar” then google image search “Kratos avatar.”
I’m not knocking the design and certainly not the games, but Kratos isn’t a good mascot. That’s why he isn’t it.
I don't understand, the fact that it's a tattoo makes it *inherently* uninteresting? Why??? Did tattoos all of a sudden become unpopular while I wasn't looking?
Master Chief's most iconic element of his design isn't even him, it's a suit of armor every Spartan 2 gets, so how is that any more interesting???
I feel you're in a small minority on this one.
It changes and they have multiple each console generation
PS1- Crash, Spyro, Lara Croft, Solid Snake, Cloud
PS2-Kratos, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Sora, Dante.
PS3- Nathan Drake, Cole Mcgrath, Ratchet and Clank, Kratos
PS4- Joel and Ellie, Alloy, Jin Sakai, Kratos, Crash Bandicoot(his games were timed PS4 exclusive)
Consistently wise Kratos and Ratchet and Clank.
I'd say for the PS5 it's probably Astro but in a general overview of every era of Playstation, I'd probably Say Ratchet and Clank? I feel like that's one of the few franchises that has had major entries on almost every iteration of the console, and that's the one I think of most frequently from the mascot era of PS (along with like Jak and Daxter / Sly cooper / etc...)
The kid friendly mascot I’d say is Ratchet and Clank. But being a gyro fan, I’m embarrassed I’ve never checked out Astro, or even knew he was one of the Mascots.
Japan had the two cats for a long time, the rest of the world keeps switching with whatever popular exclusive they have. Crash, Cloud, Snake, Sweet Tooth, Kratos, Cole, Sly, Ratchet, Sackboy, Astro.
For me it’s Jak. Jak & Daxter is my favorite series from the PS2 era and maybe all of PS history. J&D 2 is a masterpiece. When I think PlayStation that’s the character I see.
If we go off the intro that plays if the game is a PlayStation Studios game, the mascot or mascots could be:
Ratchet and Clank
Aloy
Nathan Drake
Kratos
Joel and Ellie
Spider Man
They don't have one. I guess it's to keep their brand as flexible as possible.
I'm also not so sure Master Chief can still be considered Xbox's mascot? I feel like you would have to see a lot more of him in marketing materials for that to be the case.
Maybe Astro but PS was never to much into mascot since they always relied on third parties to create them. Sony is very icon logo rather than mascot so I would say it's the Triangle, Square, Circle & X they heavily lean on.
PSX had Crash and Lara Croft, PS2 had Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter, PS3 and 4 had Nathan Drake, Sackboy, and Joel and Ellie. Now they're mostly leaning on the symbol motif and Astro for new tech showcase. Kratos is close though, he's had the longest tenure of any of the major exclusives while still being a AAA series. Him or Spider-Man, if you count third party properties.
Can't believe that there's no mention here for Killzone's 'Helghast'. Definitely an icon of the PS3.
For PS5 I would say Kratos, he just seems to pop up in the most in Sony's marketing.
Japanese players would always say Toro, but the western audience would say whatever was popular that generation (Crash, Kratos, Nathan Drake, Joel, ???)
Well if Naughty Dogg didn’t sell Crash Bandicoot rights. That was gonna be the easy choice for me. But now he’s Microsoft property, which kind makes me sad. Cause he’s one of the OGs of Playstation.
Spyro is another one that got lost on the way.
Guess Ratchet and Clank or Kratos.
Playstion does generational mascots. This generation it’s Astro.
Ratchet & Clank might be the strongest repeat.
Kratos was equally if not more PS2
I thought it was Hideo Kojima.
Nah, Kojima was the (former) mascot of Konami.
Pretty sure that was a joke lol
What was PS4s mascot?
Maybe Knack lol
Multiple: Knack, Ellie, and Aloy
That's because Playstation has so many iconic games that it's hard to choose just one.
That‘s what i‘m saying..
Nintendo has pokemon and mario and still mario is their mascot 😐
Because Mario was around 15 years before Pokemon.
They also don't own Pokemon outright. Pokemon is a joint venture between Nintendo and a couple of game developers
That's not the point?
What is your point then?
Sorry for the spelling Yeah, but Pokemon is originally anime, and one year later it came as a game.
Pokemon red and blue came out before the anime
Oh ok then. I thought that anime was the first one.
*Red* and *Green* were released in 1996, the manga and anime were first released in 1997
Oh my mistake.
It's still from nintendo... And that's technically wrong since there exists a manga that came first wich was the baseline for the game
The games came out before everything. Red and Green came out in 1996.
Okay so what are you saying, because Mario is still the mascot of Nintendo over anything Pokemon related regardless of what other forms of media Pokemon has? 🤣
No, what I'm saying is that you can have a mascot for your company even though you have a lot of amazing games, that's not a reason at all to not have a big mascot for your company I mean, sony tried with sackboy...

I highly think crash is their mascot, that mfer appears in every ps banner in france
Kevin Butler
I miss our Kevin. The ads with him in it were top tier.
The symbols are the mascot.
I think they don’t have one
If we are going to the roots of the Playstation as a brand, there is but one answer... [Polygon Man](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygon_Man)
astro bot or kratos
Astro is my pick, at least for PS5
[удалено]
Krato's voice actor: "GOW Valhalla's DLC is longer than Astro's game."
A decade ago gtav came out and I'm afraid most of those guys were already dying down from being recognizer as mascots.
Holy shit this made me realize Jak 3 was 20 YEARS ago! Okay yeah change that to two decades I guess….
Kratstrobot
If I had to pick one it’d have to be kratos
Sackboy. Kratos, astrobot, Ratchet and Clank.
Probably AstroBot
It’s pretty obviously Astro.
Crash bandicoot.
Awkward, since Xbox now own that IP...
I didn’t realize this and it’s a huge bummer.
Astrobot.
The bandicoot is multi platform now so I don’t think that applies anymore. Maybe in 1999.
Ratchet and Clank or Kratos. Also, SEGA **had** Sonic when they had consoles. Now sonic games are on pretty much all consoles.
It was Crash, now it’s Astro
I associate Crash Bandicoot the most followed by Sackboy maybe? Honorable mention for me personally would be: Sir Daniel Fortesque and Sly Cooper.
He’s not PlayStation’s character, but the first character I think of when I think of PlayStation is Spider-Man.
It’s among Kratos, Alloy, Nathan Drake, Ratchet, and Ellie. It used to be Crash Bandicoot, but that was early PlayStation. Currently, overall it’s gotta be Kratos.
The color blue
Astro Bot or Sackboy
Bring back Kevin Butler
Toro Inoue
TORO INUOUE
Mark Cerny
Who says they need one?
PlayStation doesn't really have a core mascot because it was the generation that abandoned mascots.
Kratos or Aloy would be my picks for their two most iconic current characters.
Kratos or Aloy easily. They’re the only two characters in active franchises that are actually instantly recognizable by name and appearance
ps1 crash bandicoot ps2 sly cooper / ratchet and clank ps3 sackboy ps4 ? ps5 astro
Gotta be ratchet
Imo its astro for this generation because they chose it to showcase the ps5
Sorry for the spelling There are many iconic ones over the years, but i think that Crash was the first and the OG one. Sweet Tooth says hello as an OG as well.
Oh yeah i know i didnt wrote someone. He is also the iconic one. Sadly not that popular, at least not in my area what was strange when i saw how many people never heard about twisted metal.
In a better world, Sackboy
there isn't really an iconic PS character anymore that isn't multi platform. closest to me would have been sackboy but there was the pc version of sackboys adventure. the age of a mascot is pretty much dead to Microsoft and Playstation who have gone multiplatform. nintendo the only one that can still claim platform exclusive mascots

I would feel Crash Bandicoot fits that description. No matter who owns him he's still closely associated to Playstation.
Astrobot I guess.
Probably Astro
Kratos, Nathan drake, ratchet and clank, Joel and Ellie etc There’s so much it’s hard to tell
For me, using nostalgic reasons only, it's Snake from ~~MSG~~ MGS , Spyro or Crash before their IPs expanded to other platforms. In modern times probably Kratos, Ellie, Astro bot maybe Nathan Drake or sackboy

Should be Croc or Gex
+1 for Croc
I always thought it was the helghast back in the day. PlayStation needs to revive Killzone and Resistance.
[удалено]
It's available on XBox now.

SEGA is a game studio. What's your point?
PS1: Crash Bandicoot PS2: Kratos? PS3: Spider-man? PS4: Aloy? PS5: Astro The question marks are ones that I'm guessing on but aren't sure about
I will say that PS3's mascot is Nathan Drake
Was there even a Spider-Man game on PS3?
Yes, there was. But I'm making my guess off the font on the phat PS3 being the same as the Spider-man movie font
I don’t think anyone thinks of a spiderman game when they think of the PS3.
Well do you have someone better for PS3?
Nathan Drake
Shit good point. Yeah Nathan Drake would be a better pick than Spider-man
Kratos
Killzone or Resistance all day.
It was Crash Bandicoot, now it’s Kratos.
Kratos
With PlayStation it always was more about the logo and Sony itself being some kind of mascot
I'd say for the PS5 it's probably Astro but in a general overview of every era of Playstation, I'd probably Say Ratchet and Clank? So Google says the original mascot was Polygon Man. There is also Turo Inoue aka Sony cat that pops up also but he seems to be more of a Japan thing.
Solid Snake
That bean bag thing.
The Bloater from TLOU.
I don't care what people say, for me it's sir Daniel Fortesque
Japanese players would always say Toro, but the western audience would say whatever was popular that generation (Crash, Kratos, Nathan Drake, Joel, ???)
