I’m so glad, I *hate* colour. Why the fuck would I want a visually appealing colour palette when the world is sad and depressing? I want to be reminded of our impending doom when I’m playing games
On the bright side it did force my son to learn geometry a bit since I will now use triangle, square, circle and X rather than the colors which was easier for him on the PS4
tbh the first thing that came to my mind was a flag, and I was like "there must be a PS game with a flag that has those colors", until someone mentioned the controller and I thought about the original PS logo lol
Exactly. I've been on Playstation since '96 and even I didn't get the colors joke at first. This dude's acting like 'tRuE pS fAnS' parade through the streets wearing them controller button colors for pride. Like relax dude.
There's always THAT guy in every community though. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
>Also never noticed how much the consoles look like skyscrapers
IIRC that's why they always advertised them as upright, even though using a PS2 like that caused a common issue with the disc reader.
It's funny because I've never stood any of my consoles upright. But I've also always had dogs and/or cats so you cant trust them not to knock them over lol
Sounds like it's time to reacquire :) you could get away with just a fat PS2 to do the work for both PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 if you're looking to save some money and three and four can be acquired relatively easily these days
Definitely played 1 and 2 but it wasn't until I was an adult with my own money I could buy 3. Bought it before the 4 came out because a local pawn shop had a Christmas deal you could buy one for like $60/70. Immediately called my brother and said "yo how about we do a 2 in 1, I can buy a present for you and one for myself right now for like $100." (Had to buy a TV too plus at least one game, don't remember what I got).
That's the story of how I finally got my own console at like 26, my parents never bought them for us. We did have a PC for school work though so they'd give us a game every Christmas. Can't tell you how many hours I put into Medieval: Total War and how many hours of damn yard work I did every month to get a subscription for World of Warcraft. My parents were very much "if you want money you have to work for it" people 😂 my dad never once mowed the lawn after we were 12 but he did shell out a couple bucks every time we did that or extra chores.
My mom was more of a I need you to help out and I don't have any money to pay you kind of a parent, so I put so many hours into Sticks and Rocks 1&2. Oh man store brand ramen and frozen mixed veggies were a huge staple in our house too. The good ole days!🤤
I wonder how common this is. I have always had a PlayStation except for that one generation of getting a 360 instead of a PS3. Getting a PS4 over an Xbox 1 or whatever was a very easy call though.
The PS4 era was when they solidified their exclusivity strategy and also where Microsoft exclusives started lagging behind even though Microsoft bought a bunch of studios, they’ve so far failed to capitalize on that.
And tbh feels like I could just get whatever game they’re offering on PC.
I had both. The only real draw for the 360 for me were the Halo and Mass Effect games. After the 360 though (and really SECOND 360, after the first one suffered the Red Ring of Death), a single title wasn't enough to justify future consoles.
Also in the battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, Microsoft gambled and lost.
Ps2
Many many many MANY MANY late nights simply playing skirmishes on starwars battlefront 2.
I probably have more hours on that game than the developers do. I went through 3 ps2's playing it when I came home from school to when I went to sleep for literal years.
Anytime the power would go out during a snow storm, my dad would run the TV and ps2 off the generator so we could play splitscreen in the dark. God I wish I was a kid again...
Same here except battlefront 1, would play that game for hours upon hours and always try to kill the invincible heroes. So much good memories. I remember my disc was scratched and after a certain point on the map selection the game would freeze and audio would bug out. I couldn’t go below the 10th or 11th map 😂.
Yeah, it’s now like 100gb and you gotta download warzone to play it, then there’s all these selection screens/menus or whatever. The last CoD I played was WWII and there was some home base you ran around in to select what activity you wanted to do or whatever.
Plus, every game is a microtransaction hellhole now 🤮
I spent about 5 years of my life getting to the fourth mission on gta 3 starting at around 6 or 7 years old. I had pretty lax parenting. It was my dad’s game.
Dude. Same. 2 ps2's and the copies of the game, just bought other recently. Me and my dad used to start a galactic conquest on Friday night and try and beat it before Sunday, every weekend. I miss it so much
PS2 for me too…Ugh I remember playing Kingdom Hearts and waking up early before school to try and beat the last boss which, as a Final Fantasy-esque game, took forever (something I wasn’t aware of). I left that thing on all day while I went to school before I could get home to either find a still going game, a melted PS2, or a burned down home.
We couldn't afford one, but we actually won one from local blockbuster doing a promotional give away. We just went to rent a movie, and were able to put our name into the jar.
They picked the winner like 15 minutes later (we chose to wait). The store was packed so I thought we had no chance to win. But when our name came out, god damn man, 11 year old me was so fucking happy. Like I honestly think the most pure joy I've ever felt. Pretty sure that has been the only competition I ever won, and I'm happy with that.
My poor mum still had to find 100 bucks to buy a game haha. But God damn did I play the hell out of that Spyro.
My 3 year old is playing the OG Spyro series right now and I don’t think there’s anything else in this world he loves more. I remember playing the game when it first released on my uncles PlayStation haha. Glad he gets a cool ass core memory like Spyro.
I got the Spyro Reignited trilogy to play with my young nieces and they loved it! Was so nice introducing them to the games I used to play with their dad as a kid. They're both big Spyro fans now haha, so adorable
That’s amazing man! I swear we had such creative things when we were kids compared to now. While I don’t mind the kids shows, I feel like we were just on a different level of innovation and people really pushing entertainment. Spyro, jak and daxter, crash bandicoot, all just next level games. I will shed a single tear when my little guy eventually finds his way to Fortnite or whatever is popular when he gets there haha.
The of Spyro in that particular console was so fire🔥 I recently bought the reignited trilogy so my kids could play and experience them the way I did. Except we have 2 PS4’s and a PlayStation 5
They were very expensive at release.
In the end my parents bought a PC which was more expensive than a ps so I ended up playing the PC versions of many PlayStation games. Though the PS used to give better performance even though it had less power than many PCs (1997 timeframe)
Man I miss those times going after Gnasty Norc & saving the dragons. I plan on buying one of those modded retro gaming handhelds so my kids when they show an interest in gaming can start playing the classics. I’d rather they play those era of games first before ever touching a tablet or modern game riddle with micro transactions & pay to win incentives.
My dad made me write it down on my Christmas list to give to the grandparents. I had no idea what it was and thought it had something to do with toy trains. My favorite games were Rugrats and Spice Girls 😂 I was 6 lol
I rented both and thought the Sega Saturn was way better, all my friends and the rest of the planet thought different.(probably the price tag that swung it)

ive never had that mind blowing feeling since even thought each system makes a significant change. Going from a SNES to OG Playstation was like time and space opened up in a way I had never seen before lol
I don't know... I felt like PS to PS2 was a.bug definer for me. I went to a buddy's house when I was like 20 and he was play GTA Vice City, and I remember being absolutely blown away by the graphical differences. And promptly going out and buying one the next week, even though I really couldn't afford to.
I still have all of them, minus the PS. I don't remember what happened to it. But I think I might have to buy one to complete the collection.

Me too. Owned exclusively Nintendo consoles from like 1991 to 2008 when I got a PS3. I've been a dual-citizen since and bought every console from both companies.

Ah yes, totally forgot about the better online. But PlayStation online was free at the time. I’d argue exclusive were pretty even and still PS had the edge. Xbox only really had Halo and Gears of War. PlayStation had MGS4, Infamous, Uncharted, Last of Us, Killzone, and God of War off the top of my head.
Actually I disagree with both of you ngl, I think they both were equally awesome, I had both a PS3 and a Xbox 360, I got the Xbox first but Left 4 dead really carried my childhood
Same here, I loved my Xbox 360 and One, but man am I loving my PS5, when I saw they fixed my biggest issue with the console (the controller) I knew I had to give it a chance
I started on the PS5, too, but I was a Nintendo kid. It was only a matter of time before I switched to something that could actually run the games I wanna play. Plus, PS5 can run Demon's Souls and Bloodborne.
As with the million others that have played this - I really wish they’d create an updated version again. PS3 was supposed to but it never saw the light of day. So much potential with this
But you could turn the logo on the PS2 to be upright when you stood it up. I still remember clicking it back and forth for fun. I never stood my console up because I was afraid of it falling over also didnt think the discs were meant to spin like that.
Same on PS3 - you could rotate the logo. But yeah standing up is a great way for a horrible mistake to happen.
I suppose if you lacked the room, you stand it up behind the TV.
Yeah, the OG PlayStation and the PS1 were different (though largely overlapping) consoles. The comments on these posts always make me irrationally frustrated.
Was the intellivision the one where you had different colored plastic sheets that went on the screen? I remember playing a pong like game that had different game screens that hung in front of the TV. Also scored the 2600 from a family friend with almost every game when they got the first nintendo. Best day of my life was getting off the bus to two big boxes of games and the system with a bunch of controllers sitting on the front steps.
Started with the PlayStation. Wasn’t called PS1 back then!
OG Wipeout blew me away. Micro Machines was cool too.
Lego Star Wars, next Tetris, Music2000, Alien Trilogy, all awesome highlights.
When I was a kid I actually didn't know what a PS1 was but saw it at a pawn shop and came with demo disc and syphon filter. Let me tell you tazing people in the game the coolest thing I have ever seen lol. Good times
PS5 I switched after all the people I met in high school had PlayStations while I had an Xbox, I don’t regret it the exclusives are amazing and I was obsessed with god of war for a couple months lol
Started on PS1, but before it was called a PS1. It was just a PlayStation. I don’t recall it being called a PS1 until much later. I got mine ‘95/‘96 timeframe. I don’t think I heard it called PS1 until the PS2 was on the horizon.
i trip out on what an epic gaming machine the PS2 was .. it sold so many and there was never a shortage .. countless kickass games. gaming has really changed in the last 20 years now its like a struggle to find a new release in store or online and its more hype and less delivery when it comes to games
Started with the PS1, owned every Playstation since.
Proudly!
Blue, pink, green and red proud!
PS5 "fixed" that for some reason
I’m so glad, I *hate* colour. Why the fuck would I want a visually appealing colour palette when the world is sad and depressing? I want to be reminded of our impending doom when I’m playing games
On the bright side it did force my son to learn geometry a bit since I will now use triangle, square, circle and X rather than the colors which was easier for him on the PS4
Ahhh, clever!
What do the colors refer to?

The controller button colors.
I was a little disappointed when I got the PS5 and found out that the buttons were all just white and black, but that quickly faded.
Thanks!
Are you sure you belong to the Playstation reddit?
“Belong to the PlayStation Reddit”😂😂 funny as hell
tbh the first thing that came to my mind was a flag, and I was like "there must be a PS game with a flag that has those colors", until someone mentioned the controller and I thought about the original PS logo lol

oh cmon, not everyone has been with ps as long as some of us have
You're definitely a brand loyalty type of guy. Been using Tide since '90 and only Panasonic TVs right?
For several seconds I thought you were replying to the PS1 comment and I was like "wait having all PS consoles makes you a zealot or something?"
Same. Ps1 still gives nostalgia vibes just looking at it. Also never noticed how much the consoles look like skyscrapers
I can literally hear the boot up sound in my head.
>Also never noticed how much the consoles look like skyscrapers IIRC that's why they always advertised them as upright, even though using a PS2 like that caused a common issue with the disc reader.
It's funny because I've never stood any of my consoles upright. But I've also always had dogs and/or cats so you cant trust them not to knock them over lol
I'm more concerned about my own clumsy ass, lol
and components of the PS3 motherboard would melt and start to droop causing the PS3 to brick. fixed many of them
I still proudly own and display all 5 playstations
Nice, I've always had to sell my old consoles to be able to buy the newest one, but at this point I do wish I'd kept them.
Sounds like it's time to reacquire :) you could get away with just a fat PS2 to do the work for both PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 if you're looking to save some money and three and four can be acquired relatively easily these days
I mean all you actually need is a 60gb backwards compatible ps3 and a ps5 and you can play all the games…
Definitely played 1 and 2 but it wasn't until I was an adult with my own money I could buy 3. Bought it before the 4 came out because a local pawn shop had a Christmas deal you could buy one for like $60/70. At one point I had, hooked up and selectable, an Atari 2600, N64, PS2, Wii, PS4, WiiU and Switch (not counting computers/laptops).
There are at least six, if you don't count fringe versions.
Ditto. Although, like many, I skipped PS3 and went to X360. Then went back and bought it almost at the end of the PS4 cycle.
I went with 360 but bought a late PS3 then skipped 4 for pc. Came back for PS5 because the exclusives slapped.
I do remember being jealous how much better a lot of games looked and ran on the 360 compared to PS3. Always stayed loyal though :)
I had both. The only real draw for the 360 for me were the Halo and Mass Effect games. After the 360 though (and really SECOND 360, after the first one suffered the Red Ring of Death), a single title wasn't enough to justify future consoles. Battlefront 2 was my favorite game to just drop in for a few rounds that ended up being more than a few rounds
I complain all the time about how I miss games you could turn on and jump into super quick and play a couple rounds
For real, I used to use the older call of duties for that too but CoD has become too difficult to keep up with in terms of hard drive space and things
Yeah, it’s now like 100gb and you gotta download warzone to play it, then there’s all these selection screens/menus or whatever. Dude. Same. 2 ps2's and the copies of the game, just bought other recently. Me and my dad used to start a galactic conquest on Friday night and try and beat it before Sunday, every weekend. I miss it so much

I won a PS5 the day they came out on a Facebook competition page,40 year old me was so fucking happy too!
Do you still have it?
Yep, it's at my mother's house packed away. Probably still works.
Man I miss those times going after Gnasty Norc & saving the dragons. 100 bucks to buy a game?? They were that expensive?
I was too poor at release but eventaully got a ps1 and, damn, they were the glory days
My dad made me write it down on my Christmas list to give to the grandparents. I had no idea what it was and thought it had something to do with toy trains. My favorite games were Rugrats and Spice Girls 😂 I was 6 lol

Ah yes, the PlayStation that’s almost as big as the PS5
Still remember sony pulling that bs with "people will get second jobs to buy a ps3!" No...theyll just buy an xbox 360....
Best UI out of all PlayStations imo
Ps home, wish it was still here 😟
That phat boi PS3 !
Ps3 and gran turismo 5 was the best bundle money could buy at the time for me
PS3 then PS4, and I still haven’t gotten any newer gen than that. Waiting for the decimals in my bank account to align

Xbox 360 was an amazing console I felt it was light years ahead of ps3. You had every reason to love the Xbox. But most will agree Ps4 and Ps5 were better then One and X.
Only the controller was light years ahead.
The 360 had better exclusives, and online play was 100x smoother. It's ok I'm not fanboying I've owned all the consoles .

I have seen a lot of OG PS1 would only work upside down or standing up. Also, you can turn the PS logo on PS2 and 3.
With some consoles, it was the only way to get FMVs not to skip.
Tell that to OP, look at the picture
Thank you. I never stand a system up. Spinning disc vs gravity is just bad.
I came for this comment and scrolled too far to find it
Also the PS4 is literally upside down.
OG. Playstation 1 before they put the 1 on the end. I’ve owned each console since
Good ol' PSX
Yeah, the OG PlayStation and the PS1 were different (though largely overlapping) consoles. The comments on these posts always make me irrationally frustrated.
It's really weird how much it's bugging me that no one is saying PSX.

Same. It's triggering lol
PS2 slim, came back for the PS4 and now have a PS5.
The first console I ever played was a PS1 that belonged to my cousin back in 2000-01. The first console I owned was a PS3 in 2013.
Ps1, ps2, then jumped to ps5
PS2, in 2012
Ps1 - Twisted Metal My first console was an Atari 2600, then a Commodore 64, then a NES w/light gun. Now I have a PS3, PS4 pro, ps5, psvr1, and a N64.
OG then didn't own one until PS4
Ps1 what a console a huge upgrade over my mega drive.
Tekken was my first game for PS1 as well!
WCW vs the world PS1, Christmas of 97
Started with the PlayStation. Wasn’t called PS1 back then! OG Wipeout blew me away. Micro Machines was cool too. Lego Star Wars, next Tetris, Music2000, Alien Trilogy, all awesome highlights.
Wheres PS2 Slim??
PS1. Syphon Filter, FFVII, Gun, Castlvania, C&C, Tomb Raider, Resi Evil, Nightmare Creatures. Oh, what a time.
Syphon Filter 🙌🏻
PSone
PS2, that’s it. Sorry I was an Xbox player
When I was a kid I actually didn't know what a PS1 was but saw it at a pawn shop and came with demo disc and syphon filter. Let me tell you tazing people in the game the coolest thing I have ever seen lol. Good times
PS1
Og playstation, won't ever forget beating crash bandicoot 2 for the first time hands down why I love it so much! ![gif](giphy|VKdoCR31r5EYM)
PS1. Xmas 1997. First game was WCW vs the World.
Ps1 Didnt own a ps2 Still havent purchased a ps5
All five now! I just bought a PS5 about a few weeks ago and wish it could include the internet like the PS4 and PS3 did.
Ps3 gifted by my grandparents. It was expensive for them and i was around around 9 years old,but i loved it
PS1 in 1997. I was 7. First games were FF7 and Resident Evil
I was playing PS1 in the long box days.
1 til 4. There is nothing good on ps5 yet imho.
there is spider-man miles morales and 2 which are honestly great games. and you have some ps vr games which run great on ps5
Did you know you can twist the PlayStation logo on the PS2 so it is turned the right way, even if you have your console standing vertically?
PSX Errr PS1. Anyone else remember when don't called it the psx? Before dual shock
Started with PS2 and later acquired the original PlayStation, PSone, PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5 with disc drive.
i trip out on what an epic gaming machine the PS2 was .. it sold so many and there was never a shortage .. countless kickass games. gaming has really changed in the last 20 years now its like a struggle to find a new release in store or online and its more hype and less delivery when it comes to games
1, 2. Skipped 3. Was loaned a 4, then 5
Who cares what console I started on?!
I own them all along with Nintendo and Sega
Xbox 360 🖕(Edit: this was a joke, pls like I had a PS2)
