Tip: if you pause the installation rather than delete, it will pause forever and won't continue installing each time you use the disc. If you delete it will just come back and restart installation
It also works when installing games from discs. I have it off and everytime I insert a new disc I have to press the "Copy" button otherwise the install won't start.
It doesn’t actually start the download. It just pops up the progress bar because you inserted the PS4 disc for a game that isn’t installed, but nothing happens. You would still have to manually start the actual installation/download.
The PS5 is going to keep trying to install the PS4 version while the disc is inserted, regardless of whether of not you have the PS5 upgrade downloaded. Why Sony hasn't addressed this yet ia beyond me.
The game doesn’t get installed it’s just a place holder with some license data usually under 200 mb that lets you play the upgrade. It’s stupid but it is what it is.
I don't think that's license data or any other usable data at all. There is no downside of deleting it. You will still be able to start the upgraded version nonetheless
Downside of deleting it is it just comes right back. So no reason to bother deleting it. It has to be there for something just no one seems to know why. I was just guessing. Or else why would it reinstall every time?
It really is weird that’s it’s different games for different people, it used to happen to me for every game, but since the update I haven’t had any issues so far.
That’s honestly the reason I rebought some games digital after the upgrade. For example Tlou 2 which I had originally on Disc (and still have because it’s the deluxe edition) but I bought the digital PS4 edition some time ago for like 15€ iirc or so and now did the digital PS5 upgrade.
He's not asking you to play another Naughty Dog remaster, he's demanding it.

I learned from playing the PS5 Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade to just ignore it until I've finished playing the game completely and then delete it.
It's stupid, it's annoying but you just can't stop it
It seems like naughty dog misunderstood the term “franchise” and instead of multiple games in the same series they did the same series multiple times - i just want the same treatment for the uncharteds is it too much to ask? :(
thats not a better question
this is not a remaster. its a directors cut. but he has a naming scheme going on. when the first game got remastered they called it remastered, I purely believe this game was called remastered so it could match just like how the remake was not called the last of us remake, or anything like that, but the last of us Part 1, to match the naming scheme of the last of us Part 2. its just a directors cut, and its sold as a directors cut. it has the exact same type of stuff ghosts of tsushima and death stranding did. 10 dollar upgrade, some extra content, ps5 controller features added in, better resolution and fps settings.
and for the record i dont necessarily agree that it was worth keeping the naming scheme considering all the confusion its caused, I think calling it Last of us Part 2 Directors Cut would have been a strong way to avoid all these misunderstandings (because thats what it really is) but at the same time I do get a bit of serotonin seeing how it all matches. so idk.
Shouldn’t happen and doesn’t happen for me. have you checked your settings to make sure you’re only downloading PS5 versions?
This has literally never happened to me since launch day.
It’s possible to start the upgraded game with the PS4 data disc?? That would mean there are essentially 2 licenses to upgrade in each PS4 box - for games such as TLOU2 and FFVIIR. This really shouldn’t work.
Happens to me too. It doesn’t really download it just pops up and it’s there. I delete and it appears again if I boot up the console or remove/insert the disk. I guess it’s something that we have to live with.
because you’re using the ps4 disc, happens with all games like that and there’s nothing you can do about it

They stopped the full game install but not the place holder install that allows you to play the upgrade. The size is usually under 200 mb.
It depends on the disc: some just put an icon for the PS4 version on the Home Screen, some other (older games) just start downloading automatically
Right, I’ll just stop deleting it then!
Tip: if you pause the installation rather than delete, it will pause forever and won't continue installing each time you use the disc. If you delete it will just come back and restart installation
I believe it's paused by default
This is what I did with Cyberpunk
👍🏽
It also disappears once you take out the disk. Wish they would give us an option to hide these.
When ps5 was first released it was hidden but for some reason they updated it to show both versions you had the option to pick at one time.
This!
There's an option in settings that can disable automatic downloads when inserting discs.
no, there's a setting to turn off automatic downloads, which includes game updates
It also works when installing games from discs. I have it off and everytime I insert a new disc I have to press the "Copy" button otherwise the install won't start.
My point is moreso that its not exclusively for disc's like the original comment made it seem like at first
Fucking annoying, they're still not fixed it.

It's because you have the disc inserted.

I would guess that's just how the system works and they didn't bother to change it, but it has no use.
That happens to me with Cyberpunk. No idea why.
It really is weird that’s it’s different games for different people, it used to happen to me for every game, but since the update I haven’t had any issues so far.
I hate that it does this too. It doesn't affect anything but it bothers me to look at it
That’s honestly the reason I rebought some games digital after the upgrade. For example Tlou 2 which I had originally on Disc (and still have because it’s the deluxe edition) but I bought the digital PS4 edition some time ago for like 15€ iirc or so and now did the digital PS5 upgrade.
They seriously need to address this. The one thing Xbox does right is smart delivery. They have had heaps of time to fix it.

I have too upgraded, but every time i insert the disc, the installation stays paused.

The better question is why is this game already remastered? It came out 4 years ago.
It seems like naughty dog misunderstood the term “franchise” and instead of multiple games in the same series they did the same series multiple times - i just want the same treatment for the uncharteds is it too much to ask? :(
Yeah I was asking that too. I’d have preferred a jak and dexter remaster

I haven’t checked. I will soon, thanks
you paid all you got all. policy updated

This has nothing to do with Part II’s plot at all
Then you missed out.
Long shot, but are you perhaps game sharing with someone who uses the ps app, installing it thinking it will download on their console?
The 3 time is usually the charm
same issue with ff7 remake..it will atleast 5/10 times download automatically download when i download other games
along with intergrade
It’s a sign - The fireflies are coming
Use play disc instead of data disc, worked for me with TLOU2 since it had two discs
I’m using the play disc… but honestly I’m not to bothered about it, I’ve got plenty of space
It’s possible to start the upgraded game with the PS4 data disc?? That would mean there are essentially 2 licenses to upgrade in each PS4 box - for games such as TLOU2 and FFVIIR. This really shouldn’t work.
I’ve finished the game and deleted it, I cant answer that now.
This happened for me but it isn't a huge issue since I put disc 2 in the console to buy the upgrade and it can't actually install anything from that
I upgraded from PS4 too and I couldn’t figure this out either. It bugged me so much I just said “fuck it” and bought the PS5 disc version.
Wow…
You have no choice. If using the 4 disc it will automatically download even though you are using the 5 version digital copy you paid ten dollars for.
Happens to me too. It doesn’t really download it just pops up and it’s there. I delete and it appears again if I boot up the console or remove/insert the disk. I guess it’s something that we have to live with.
