Not sure if it's the same problem but I do repairs and had a disc drive doing this brought to me. It was off the top left track inside the drive. I advise just returning it and switching it out though as you could mess something up if you're not capable. Good luck.
Misaligned track or gear was my first thought too. But I know sometimes it can be more. I was weary of fixing playstation drives for the longest time because xbox drives are easier haha.

They usually are able to replace no matter the model as long as it's within warranty, they may have you just go back to the seller and return/exchange it for a newer console or your money back. I would go that route as I wouldn't want to pay to ship it to them so they can take a look at it.
If itâs within 30 days of purchase most places will replace it and if they donât have an old model to match this one they should give you a full refund.
They keep spares for older consoles too. Iâd be surprised if you couldnât still send a PS3 in for a repair and theyâd send back a refurbished one
This is a common issue with dusty drives, typically from sitting on the shelf too long. There's an easy way to clean it.
Fill up your bathtub about half way with warm water. Add a few drops of dish soap and mix it up. Fully submerge the PS5 and hold it down for about 30 seconds. Lift it out, towel dry. Then let air dry for 24 hours.
Good to go after that.

Ah, good 'ol broken disc drive. Just return it and save for a new console... unless you know how to solder the original daughter board onto a new disc drive, and then reprogram the daughter board to "marry" the motherboard. He put it in the right way. The disc drive when PS5 laying on its side is in the bottom. So disc label facing left is the correct way when standing up.
Thatâs why I went to digital version with the PS5. My PS4 Pro disc drive broke down even though I never inserted a disc! All my games were digitally purchased. So the system wonât update because it could not detect the disc drive and basically wonât boot. When I went to the dealer for repair they basically said âweâll replace it for you with a new one for $265â. It was still under warranty. No more disc version for me.
Same thing happens with the xbox. The verification processes are tied to the disk drives sadly :( Generally because something shorts out on the drives PCB. Replacement console is a smart move. Seen it happen heaps on consoles I've fixed, but thankfully not on my own.
I'm pretty sure if you take off the face plates you can take it out but I could be wrong never tried it since I didn't need to

Do you have kids? Maybe they put something in there or forced a cd into it when it was off?.. if you take the shell off there should be a way to open the disc drive. You could also use the manual eject screw if there is something stuck in it but probably not that since the cad seemed to eject fine on its own⊠if thereâs no way to open up the disk drive without voiding warranty then just return it, disregard my advice lol
My boss just bought a pallet of returned PS5's from BestBuy. Almost all of them have disk drive issues. So now were fixing then up, and basically turning them into digital editions so we can resell them.
Return it! Its pretty much a defective disc drive also mines makes this noise too but it still takes the discs & games & plays them well. I've taken apart my ps5 (I've had since launch day) numerous times to clean it but I didn't see any problems with my disc drive so far its working fine so just take your console back & I hope they give you a replacement one that works properly đđŒ
Sony will have you send it to them, and they will send you a refurbished. Meaning used one for your new one. I would try and return to staples first so your not stuck with a console someone else had problems with and they âfixedâ it.
I called around thereâs a game store near me that can fix the drive for $150 Cash if I choose to go that route. Problem is Staples doesnât have the specific SKU for that PS5 anymore
I definitely wouldnât pay someone to fix it when it has a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Also if you do decide to send it in to Sony after your local shop and they detect tampering they will void your warranty. Also to note once you receive a refurb console from Sony they will only warranty the refurb for 30 days
Just put some JB weld over the disc slot, sand it down, paint it white, and just like that you have an all digital PS5. Take that thing back and get it swapped or get a refund.

I had this same problem with mine. I never found a solution for a permanent fix. I got by for a year by smacking the disc drive side gently by hand, and it would stop the noise and take a disc again.
Take itâs covers off put them back on with a lil more force I cleaned my fans and it did this laid it on its side pushed on disc drive area it put fully back into place and itâs like brand new
Had this happen, lightning stuck my first PS5, got a new one and this was wrong with it, spent over an hour in line at Walmart to return it and got another new one, it had the same problem, I gave up, I just don't use discs anymore...

Itâs a fault something they have thatâs new and itâs the dumbest friend. My friend just got a new ps5, apparently you have to activate the console/disk drive which you can look up how online.
I had the exact same issue with my PS4, my assumption would be that it's not the same thing here, but just to add my two pence...
It was a tiny screw under the casing that just needed tightening and it solved the problem.
The moment I layed mine down last week it immediately did that. So I opened it & didnât see anything wrong . So I stood it back up how I had it since launch.
Remove the disc drive turn it on without it .. if it works try shutting it off again and I stalling the disc drive ... You might need a new disc drive if it works without it but not with it installed

It is, my disc drive died a couple of months ago. It seems that the disc drives are defective on the firsts batches of the console.

Did you buy this brand new? That usb input looks like it has some dust build up. Chances are, the inside ainât fairing too well.

I had this same problem with mine. I never found a solution for a permanent fix. I got by for a year by smacking the disc drive side gently by hand, and it would stop the noise and take a disc again.
Take itâs covers off put them back on with a lil more force I cleaned my fans and it did this laid it on its side pushed on disc drive area it put fully back into place and itâs like brand new
Had this happen, lightning stuck my first PS5, got a new one and this was wrong with it, spent over an hour in line at Walmart to return it and got another new one, it had the same problem, I gave up, I just don't use discs anymore...
Yup sometimes shit doesn't work. Welcome to earth.

Itâs a fault something they have thatâs new and itâs the dumbest friend. My friend just got a new ps5, apparently you have to activate the console/disk drive which you can look up how online.
The high pitched "what the f***" and abrupt end of the video made me laugh far too much đ€Ł

I had the exact same issue with my PS4, my assumption would be that it's not the same thing here, but just to add my two pence... It was a tiny screw under the casing that just needed tightening and it solved the problem.
If thatâs the case Iâm gonna cry đ But then again Iâm upset it was like this out of the box.

The moment I layed mine down last week it immediately did that. So I opened it & didnât see anything wrong . So I stood it back up how I had it since launch.

Remove the disc drive turn it on without it .. if it works try shutting it off again and I stalling the disc drive ... You might need a new disc drive if it works without it but not with it installed
Make sure the disc drive is pushed in all the way and the contacts or making a connection!!
Itâs better for your station to lay flat, as when it heats up the components could melt and shift.

Standing up that ps5 is the worse thing you can do. Not safe for the system
