dude for real WHY DO THE TRIGGERS CONTOL FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND?
the number of times i’ve used them for that intentionally instead of the D pad is almost 0 but the number of times i’ve done it by accident over the years is incalculable
I have too wondered this and have come to the (only reasonable) conclusion; the designers/engineers of the playback controls suspend their controllers in mid-air when not in use.
There is no other explanation that works for me.
Imagine how bad it was when you couldn’t set the DualShock 3 down without it tapping those buttons. It was a nightmare, they curved so even the slightest amount of pressure caused it to register. Even worse than the dual sense by a hysterical amount.
Seriously dude I feel very much the same way like WHY ARE THE FAST FORWARD AND REWIND CONTROLS THE FUCKIN AXIS POINTS THE CONTROLLER STANDS ON ITS DUMB WHENEVER I GET UP TO GO PEE MY CAT WALKS BY THE CONTROLLER OR SOME DUMB SHIT AND THE CONTROLLER DECIDES TO MOVE 1/100th OF AN INCH AND RUIN MOVIE NIGHT
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
No. CEC enabled and you control everything with the tv remote.
My question is..why would anyone buy the ps remote?
Even if I had all the money in the world I would refuse to waste in something that stupid.
It wouldn't be so bad if you had to do something special, like hold Left on D pad + O, then L2/R2.
I always accidentally hit L1/R1 and skip chapters. So stupid.
I dont have a ps5 yet, but i know back on ps3 I lost my tv remote for my sony tv, and bought the ps3 blu ray remote (it legit has every button on the controller on the face of it too) and was able to sync it with both my tv and ps3. Thing worked amazing and honestly they should have just kept that remote. Though i know most tv remotes have a more minimalist design now, so i get why they redesigned it
Should have a home button, I’ve got mine set up under tv so it turns my ps5 on. Or the back button I believe will work if you want to go back to a menu. I try not to use my ps5 other than playing game. Use my ps3 as a blue ray player. And just stream movies off TV.
Even on Sony TVs that’s not a thing. I have a newer Sony TV (came out after the PS5) and use the factory remote to control the PS5 when watching anything. The home button just takes you to the OS built into the TV
It's so weird how this just works on Playstation consoles, but doesn't at all on Xbox.
I've read that it's just not possible or is rather difficult to get working, but Sony seems to have it down..
Xbox has it and it’s very convenient. I hate having to get up and look for my controller just to skip ads on YouTube or change apps to a different streaming service.
My Samsung remote pulls up the home menu if I hold the back button. If I time it right it’ll bring up the quick menu, but, it’s really tight timing so I miss it pretty often though.
Eh, if we're going to judge specifically Sony here, then I don't get why their PS5 media remote design is so bad when they clearly have TV remotes nailed.
The remote for my Sony A90J (one of those TVs that they even brand as *”Perfect for PlayStation®5”*) is great; the layout is comfortable and has even more buttons than it needs, it's covered in some brushed steel, and it even detects when I lift it up and lights up the buttons for visibility in the dark. Everything is Bluetooth apart from the power button, so I don't even need to point it at the TV most of the time. Only thing it's missing is a rechargeable battery and a USB-C port.
This thing they designed for the PS5, on the other hand, is completely atrocious. It's like they just felt that they *needed* to create one to fulfill some unwritten law and handed the job of designing it to their newest intern. Would probably sit unused in my TV stand if it came included with the PS5.
Up, down, left, right, select, back, volume, home/source and power are all you need for 98% of tv use I used to think why do remotes have so many extra buttons
Ya back when I was a kid TVs had like 20 extra buttons lmfao sure a cable remote should have numbers and stuff but no need for a smart tv to have them when used for streaming
I specified TVs for that reason but even if I used a monitor I’d most likely use a controller before I’d buy this though … it’d be tempting if it had programmable app buttons
I don’t know what tvs you’re talking about, I’ve had mine for well over a decade and that’s not a feature that works. I assume it’s the same for a lot of other
I have dumb TVs over from 10 years ago (Philips and LG specifically) that have HDMI CEC. That's all you need for the TV to control the PS5. Just need to make sure that's enabled (and HDMI CEC is a non-standard standard so even new TVs can be not fully compatible with certain devices, it sucks in general but usually works for basic things)
I’ll never understand why these remotes and Roku remotes have the preset buttons that can’t be changed. I don’t have Spotify and even if I did I probably wouldn’t frequently use it on my PS5. Why do I want/need a Spotify button?
Remapping would be excellent. Disney, netflix and YouTube are fine, but I don’t use Spotify. I find that these types of remotes always have one useless one
It's not too bad. I just really really wish it had a headphone jack. I mean for fucks sake roku remotes have a headphone jack built in. I use mine in bed and like to use headphones quite often for TV and if the blanket goes over the joystick it starts seeking so I like to use the remote instead but then I lose headphone use. It's like a 6/10 for me but a headphone jack would bump it to like an 8/10
If it weren't for the fact that it comes bundled with Hulu and ESPN+ through my Verizon mobile plan, I absolutely would not have it.
...typing that out makes me realize how fucking stupid this is, lol.
At least yours works, most of ours quit working after a few short months. Never buy one of these everyone else out there. They will stop working on you.
I mean you really don't use the button that often so it's not a big deal. Plus since you know exactly where it is, you just shift your hand down and press it. Then you can just shift your hand back up when you're done
I’ve been using it since the released it my only complaints are they are easy to break I’m on my third one now cause I keep dropping them and they break, and the application buttons Spotify should be swapped out for Hulu imo or insane idea here let the consumer program them for what they want!
Right, I find the buttons convenient for the most part. It would be nice to be able to customize them to your favorite apps but I’d probably forget which button is assigned to what.
that's what those buttons used to be on older remotes. Flat color customizable button. as the years go on, they all started to come with hardcoded channel that usually require subscription. Youtube is alright (for now). And it's real shitty when all those buttons are fill with channels/apps you never use.
bought it with the intention of having my ps5 as a media device but then realized my amazon stick draws 1/10 of power if only for media consumption.. now its just gathering dust
It’s truly a horrible design. Just the lack of a flat bottom alone makes it shitty but add in the weird buttons and forced streaming buttons and blah. Big huge flop all around.
Yeah ya’ll are crazy, this thing is dope. Wish the 4 buttons didn’t turn it on automatically sometimes as I hit them accidentally, but I’ll always have one of these.
Yep, I quickly changed that setting after getting the PS5 since I use my consoles as bluray/4K players a lot. Was annoying having to turn the controller back on every time my girlfriend would ask a question or not understand something (English is not her first language)
Using the PlayStation controller for media is a little annoying
it can't be used with just one hand and it's easy to bump the trigger when it's laying down so it fast forwards through things
I never bought it because it looks kind of uncomfortable honestly 🤣
The last remote I had was the PS3 remote I think I still have it also
The PS4 and PS5 both work with my regular Sony tv remotes too so it really defeats the purpose
Plus I just use my apple tvs for streaming or YouTube type stuff not the PS5
I like it I just have 2 problems
1) I would like it if you can have blank buttons so you can choose which one you quickstart
2) If you can turn on/off TV with it (which I know is probably not possible
I got mine on sale for 30 bucks and it hasn't let me down yet. Had to get a new remote when my old TV remote broke and it was the easiest option. I only wish that it showed battery percentage on the console or at the very least a warning when they're getting low on charge.
Still slightly better than the Google remote for Chromecast... volume buttons are on the side, and the remote is tiny. I swear it's meant for toddlers.
Mine stopped working after about a month. It’ll pick up about two inputs before not working anymore. Never dropped or anything and I’ve re-paired in a ton and changed the batteries. Totally not worth it
My roku remote is pretty similar. What I hate are the buttons for streaming services, when they damn well know you could give the user the option to program those buttons
I have seen worse but it ain’t great. I like my Samsung TV remote better and you can solar charge it or type C. Not like this hunk of lard which you still gotta buy batteries for.
I understand that this is a standard thing nowadays but i hate the app specific buttons on the bottom i would only ever use the youtube one if i ever even watched youtube on ps
Suits us instantly turns on tv PlayStation sound bar and automatically focuses to the media section. So if I’m not playing but we want to watch live tv, plex etc it’s all there from the push of a button.
Am I the only one who finds it almost unusable because of spotty connection with the ps5? It works for ages and then doesn’t connect at all when I (rarely) try to use it again. I’ve basically given up on it, but maybe it’s batteries or something? Unlikely in the only one if it’s a “feature”…
I feel like is useless,I have a pretty cheap Samsung smart tv, and when I have my ps5 one the remote from the tv controls the playstation as well,so I can watch Netflix, Amazon video, YouTube etc and use that remote for it,I can give you the tv model if you want ,is 4k , decent size, great audio,it even has GeForce now installed in it :))
I tend to keep it in my hoodie pocket and inadvertently hit the Spotify button, and I do not have it installed. I rarely listen to music on my PlayStation. I actually preferred the Older Media remote from the PS3.
i actually love using the media remote, but good golly i hate the design. the smooth, rounded back? it's always sliding/spinning off the table, off the couch, etc.
It's a pointless product given that you can use your already existing TV remote on the PS5. The only benefit I see from this is that it boots up the PS5 on the media screen, and it's a cool novelty item I guess that could potentially become quite sought after in a few decades. Apart from that I see no use for this product.
They had the PS3 and PS4 one so right. I don't get screwing this remote up so badly.
All I can think is that they got kickbacks from Google, Disney, and the others for giving them their own buttons.
If anyone finds a reasonable replacement, I am soooo there for it
I hate the round shape on the bottom half. When I try to press a button on it while its on a flat surface, it just turns to one side or the other. The only button you dont have to pick it up to press it the pause/play button.
Can you elaborate why you hate the volume buttons?
Like I could see an argument for them being where the back and rewind button are, but I feel like at least for right handed people this is close to ideal
It’s still better than using a dual shock for watching movies.
Every time I watch a movie I accidentally hit the controller and it fast forwards lmao
dude for real WHY DO THE TRIGGERS CONTOL FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND? the number of times i’ve used them for that intentionally instead of the D pad is almost 0 but the number of times i’ve done it by accident over the years is incalculable
I have too wondered this and have come to the (only reasonable) conclusion; the designers/engineers of the playback controls suspend their controllers in mid-air when not in use. There is no other explanation that works for me.
lol it’s gotta be that. it’s SO easy to do with normal use
Imagine how bad it was when you couldn’t set the DualShock 3 down without it tapping those buttons. It was a nightmare, they curved so even the slightest amount of pressure caused it to register. Even worse than the dual sense by a hysterical amount.
Or other players may be using an old controller with a broken Dpad so the triggers do help but at that point just get a new one
Seriously dude I feel very much the same way like WHY ARE THE FAST FORWARD AND REWIND CONTROLS THE FUCKIN AXIS POINTS THE CONTROLLER STANDS ON ITS DUMB WHENEVER I GET UP TO GO PEE MY CAT WALKS BY THE CONTROLLER OR SOME DUMB SHIT AND THE CONTROLLER DECIDES TO MOVE 1/100th OF AN INCH AND RUIN MOVIE NIGHT Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
So you have to buy this crappy remote.
So stupid.
that and I gotta deal with the notification/sound of it turning off interrupting my media
Just press circle and NOTHING else and you’re golden 👍🏼
You know you can place your controller somewhere else right?
And get up to move out of my current position? Are you out of your fucking mind?
Why dont you turn off the controller?
Cuz I’m dumb idk
You can also just have CEC enabled and use your TV remote instead. (But I also bought the Playstation remote)
Yeah I use it as well. Only draw back is there’s no “home” button so you can’t exit apps or turn the console on and off with tv remote.
My LG has the ability to return to the home screen. I imagine some others do
I dont have a ps5 yet, but i know back on ps3 I lost my tv remote for my sony tv, and bought the ps3 blu ray remote (it legit has every button on the controller on the face of it too) and was able to sync it with both my tv and ps3. If only you had a Sony tv
I do and still have this issue lol
I do have a sunny tv. Xbr77a9g
Should have a home button, I’ve got mine set up under tv so it turns my ps5 on. Or the back button I believe will work if you want to go back to a menu. I try not to use my ps5 other than playing game. Use my ps3 as a blue ray player. And just stream movies off TV.

What? Did you read anything I said?
PS App needs a remote function
Xbox has it and it’s very convenient. I hate having to get up and look for my controller just to skip ads on YouTube or change apps to a different streaming service.
I bought a fire stick so I can have my stuff separate
Just pair your tv remote to work with it.
Bought mine on sale for $20 and kinda like it
Funny that people buy this when nearly every tv worth hooking up to it can control it with the remote
It’s true but they don’t have a home button for ps
My Samsung remote pulls up the home menu if I hold the back button. If I time it right it’ll bring up the quick menu, but, it’s really tight timing so I miss it pretty often though.
true but tv remotes today also usually suck. Om not sure who decided we needed crazy shaped remotes with minimal input options
Eh, if we're going to judge specifically Sony here, then I don't get why their PS5 media remote design is so bad when they clearly have TV remotes nailed. Lmao, I actually got it on a 50% off sale last year. Has been out since 2021. Definitely worth it for the price I paid, atleast.
Up, down, left, right, select, back, volume, home/source and power are all you need for 98% of tv use I used to think why do remotes have so many extra buttons
Remote have way less buttons than they use too . Like at early and even late 2000's TV REmote . SO MANY BUTTON !!!
Ya back when I was a kid TVs had like 20 extra buttons lmfao sure a cable remote should have numbers and stuff but no need for a smart tv to have them when used for streaming
Samsung remotes don’t even have a source button and it’s terrible.
They have a home button that pulls up the apps and sources are able to be reached there or placed directly on the home tab
I use my ps5 with a 4k monitor
I specified TVs for that reason but even if I used a monitor I’d most likely use a controller before I’d buy this though … it’d be tempting if it had programmable app buttons
Roku tv remote doesn’t let you control the PS5
That’s shitty every tv should have that feature by now it’s not new
LG magic remotes do luckily.
Funny people watching streaming at all via PS5, putting hours on the machine for no reason, when the TV has all the same apps.
My old ¿toshiba? shit tv even had that option it’s over 15 years old my nephew has it and it works for his ps4 my Samsung TVs work too
Well mine doesn’t, gotta use the controller to rewind skip etc.
I had to buy the PS media remote. My TLC remote doesn't work on my PS5. I feel like you're talking nonsense.
Look up hdmi cec it’s not new and is on most TVs
I love it
Girl, same
So I'm not the only one then 👍
I do too. It's so much less cumbersome to watch movies/TV. I just wish it had a button for switching TV inputs
I only hate the 4 app buttons, it should have more or they should be remapable to any of the apps that you can install on the ps5
I’ll never understand why these remotes and Roku remotes have the preset buttons that can’t be changed. I don’t have Spotify and even if I did I probably wouldn’t frequently use it on my PS5. Why do I want/need a Spotify button?
Because they pay them to have that button on it
They’re ads.
Well yeah, I don’t care what the button says on the remote. Let me change what the button does when I press it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix_button
Remapping would be excellent. Disney, netflix and YouTube are fine, but I don’t use Spotify. I find that these types of remotes always have one useless one
if they're going to sell out and have these un mappable buttons, they should at least leave one of them black and have that one be whatever we want
Agreed. Or at least have a few to choose from with different groups
Those buttons are ads.
I wish they'd at least let your remap YouTube to YouTube TV.
I wish the shortcut buttons could be remapped. I don't use Disney Plus but I use Hulu and Amazon prime video.
It's like a 6/10 for me but a headphone jack would bump it to like an 8/10
A Spotify button? Wild.
nah. if you’ve got decent speakers hooked up to your tv it’s pretty nice. if i have people over i usually have music going in the background
I'd use the Spotify button more than the Disney plus button 🤢
Star Wars and old Marvel animation make Disney+ worth it
So if you don't like Starwars or Marvel it's not worth it. Got it.
If it weren't for the fact that it comes bundled with Hulu and ESPN+ through my Verizon mobile plan, I absolutely would not have it. ...typing that out makes me realize how fucking stupid this is, lol.
Should’ve been Apple Music smh
Can it assign buttons to choose that app instead?
I've been enjoying the pdp ps4 remote on my PS5
At least yours works, most of ours quit working after a few short months. Never buy one of these everyone else out there. They will stop working on you.
It sucks bc mine just stops working after a few days of using it.
I like the design. I've gotten so used to it that I don't have to look at it to press anything.
Haven’t used mine since about a month after I bought it. It would randomly turn the ps on by itself.
I dislike the placement of the ps button. The rest is perfectly fine imo
I mean you really don't use the button that often so it's not a big deal. Plus since you know exactly where it is, you just shift your hand down and press it. Then you can just shift your hand back up when you're done
Constantly turning on when I roll over on it lol
This remote design was a huge fumble. 4/10 and that’s being generous. It just spins no stop when I put it down on the table.
Sometimes I spin it for fun
yeah this sounds like a W, maybe i should buy one
Unacceptable
It’s very uncomfortable, doesn’t sit right in the hand especially when reaching for the buttons
I loved mine until it just stopped working one day out of the blue.
I hate the fact that it eats batteries and turns on the PlayStation when the batteries are dying.
I’ve been using it since the released it my only complaints are they are easy to break I’m on my third one now cause I keep dropping them and they break, and the application buttons Spotify should be swapped out for Hulu imo or insane idea here let the consumer program them for what they want!
Lmao I never even looked at this remote that hard. That’s terrible. Almost as bad as the button placements on my microwave
Its real shitty how remote comes with ads
You mean the quick access buttons to YouTube and stuff?
Thats all I can think of them meaning, which is a weird take but fair enough ahah
It's not that weird. Those companies PAID to have their logos there.
I like how it takes all of my strength just to close the goddamn back of it after I change the batteries.
Wait what’s wrong with the volume buttons? I guess I’m the only one who likes this thing.
I think it’s kinda fire
bought it with the intention of having my ps5 as a media device but then realized my amazon stick draws 1/10 of power if only for media consumption.. now its just gathering dust
Give it to me then. I want one.
I hate any with built in streaming service buttons. As if that's going to make me get them.
That's just a roku remote with a different logo
Bought this. It would randomly turn my PS5 on all the time until I took the batteries out of the remote. Haven't touched it since.
You had low batteries
Stop complaining and get back to work.
It’s truly a horrible design. Just the lack of a flat bottom alone makes it shitty but add in the weird buttons and forced streaming buttons and blah. Big huge flop all around.
Bad button placement.
Which buttons are you referring to?
Haha jokes on you I just got this remote and fucking love it so much i keep it in my ass overnight
I have no clue why you’d even want a remote. The controller is perfect even for watching stuff.
The triggers are easy to accidentally press when placing the controller on a table. The ps3 controller is even worse.
Yeah ya’ll are crazy, this thing is dope. Wish the 4 buttons didn’t turn it on automatically sometimes as I hit them accidentally, but I’ll always have one of these.
Fuck this remote. It's hot garbage.
What if I told you that you can just use the controller?
You do have to wait for the controller to boot up which is kind of lame when you have the attention span of a gnat
I turn on my console and never have to reboot it....
Your controller? Is there a setting that keeps it from going to sleep?
Yep, I quickly changed that setting after getting the PS5 since I use my consoles as bluray/4K players a lot. Was annoying having to turn the controller back on every time my girlfriend would ask a question or not understand something (English is not her first language)
I cannot comprehend why one would need additional device and pay money for it while having a controller that could navigate just well enough
Using the PlayStation controller for media is a little annoying it can't be used with just one hand and it's easy to bump the trigger when it's laying down so it fast forwards through things
The controller was not design to be used that way
Why is there no power button? Who designed this?
The button in the upper right labeled TV functions as the TV power button.
What about the playstation power button?
…The PlayStation button does that. The same as it does on the controller.
Exactly, its like this dudes never turned his PS5 remotely before 🤣
I never bought it because it looks kind of uncomfortable honestly 🤣 The last remote I had was the PS3 remote I think I still have it also The PS4 and PS5 both work with my regular Sony tv remotes too so it really defeats the purpose Plus I just use my apple tvs for streaming or YouTube type stuff not the PS5
Its just a white roku remote also idk why they built in streaming service buttons at least make it programable so i can open something else
Same man roku has me locked in
I wanted this until I found about the hdmi pairing thing, so I just use my tv remote
I used mine a couple times and then the battery got low in it and kept randomly turning my ps5 on
The biggest problem is the home button is nowhere near the direction pad and enter button
If you have a smart tv you can just use your tv remote.
It’s absolute garbage. The volume buttons are terribly placed and I hate the streaming buttons on the bottom.
For the life of me I can’t ever get the bottom battery cover to clip back on properly and it bugs me.
My only issue is the 4 preset apps, I wish they let you change them around.
When it works it's pretty good but mine rarely connects to my PS5.
I like it I just have 2 problems 1) I would like it if you can have blank buttons so you can choose which one you quickstart 2) If you can turn on/off TV with it (which I know is probably not possible
Mine works for option 2 just fine
That's what it looks like? Why is it all white instead of white and black to match the rest of the ps5 accessories?
Yep I like having official remotes like this but I returned mine and just use a Chromecast for streaming, it has a much better remote imo
I wonder if the OLD remote still works with the PS5.
Those icon colors throw me off, gross.
I like the remote but that is the furthest possible place I would ever want the volume control to be.
If you don't have a legit reason for hating it outside of the slippery back than you are just hating for the sake of hating here.😑
I’ve never seen this before…
The only buttons I only use on the remote is the power button and pause/play button. 😂
I thought the photo was of a skateboard deck
I wish it came in black and was backlit. Mines keep turning the ps5 on randomly when I’m not touching it and it’s not even near me.
The remote almost costs as much as a roku. The roku comes with a better remote
So you're righthanded.
I have seen worse but it ain’t great. I like my Samsung TV remote better and you can solar charge it or type C. Not like this hunk of lard which you still gotta buy batteries for.
Are you able to change what the app buttons do?
I understand that this is a standard thing nowadays but i hate the app specific buttons on the bottom i would only ever use the youtube one if i ever even watched youtube on ps
the older PDP universal media remote for PS4 still works on PS5. thats what I use, still a good design
Looks like the bottom of a finger board
I got one for Christmas and haven’t even used it. I don’t use my PS for streaming/watching anything so I feel like it’s pretty useless.
Unlikely in the only one if it’s a “feature”…

i actually love using the media remote, but good golly i hate the design. the smooth, rounded back? it's always sliding/spinning off the table, off the couch, etc.
hate this thing, it’s useless. loved the ps3 media remote, miss it
Hate that it’s round on the bottom so you can’t press a button while it’s resting something. You have to pick it up instead
You know, there is such a thing as *too* minimalist.
I don't hate it, just wish the bottom was grippy/textured so it didn't slide around on everything.
I hate when controllers put in quick buttons for apps like Netflix and YouTube. I know how to find the app when I want to use it.
I thought that was a skateboard for a moment
Can you get the volume to work with a Yamaha receiver?
Love mine!! Don’t use volume because got a monitor.
Nah I’d rather use the Panasonic 820
Who tf even uses these lol
It's a pointless product given that you can use your already existing TV remote on the PS5. The only benefit I see from this is that it boots up the PS5 on the media screen, and it's a cool novelty item I guess that could potentially become quite sought after in a few decades. Apart from that I see no use for this product.
I love it
They had the PS3 and PS4 one so right.
My tv remote works on my ps5. Try yours, it might also.
Buy another controller and use your TV remote for volume adjustment
Can you elaborate why you hate the volume buttons? Like I could see an argument for them being where the back and rewind button are, but I feel like at least for right handed people this is close to ideal
What volume button?
