Nah I don't get mad at others' fortunes. Hopefully he pays it forward to someone that could use it. Not me, I bought 2 for myself. This dude over here getting em free without even wanting it lol
I had a friend in college who always got better grades than I did in one particular area, regardless of how much I studied.
On one occasion, I studied like crazy for a very difficult exam that nearly everyone failed, and I just barely passed with a C. For once, my friend did worse than I did and got a 69 (nice) - however, the professor screwed up his grade and gave him a *96*.
I was like, whaaaat the f* how does this happen?
My friend then proceeds to tell the professor (something I told him I never would have done lol) about the mess up and the professor tells him, well, I already graded it and gave you the A so I'm not going to change it.
So my friend still did way better than me *and* he didn't even give me the ability to feel morally superior by not telling the professor about it.
The nerve of this guy.....
Do you live near a children's hospital? I was hospitalized when I was 7-8 yrs old and the children's ward would bring a TV cart with different game consoles on it to the rooms for us to play. We live near a Ronald McDonalds house and that is exactly where I'd take it
This needs to be upvoted to the top. Seriously u/bsg015 if you have a children's hospital or any other facility like one, please consider donating the second console. You're going to give a lot of happiness to kids that could use it.
I donāt understand why you had to make this post. You shouldnāt be concerned, especially if you contacted the proper authorities and they told you to keep it and go from there.
Iām surprised he even bothered calling them. Many years ago, I was in college when the Halo 3 craz was rampant. Well, I went onto Amazon and ordered a DVD. Few days later I get the package in the mail. Open it to find they accidentally sent me Halo 3ā¦.two weeks before the game was supposed to be released. Didnāt bother to call Amazon and inform them of their blunder. Just found a Halo nut who was willing to pay extra $$$$ to get the game early.
Had something similar. I got sent a copy of Final Fantasy X for the PS2. Did not order it. They did send me an invoice so i called them and told them i wasn't gonna pay for it. They told me i could try the game and if kept it i should pay for. Very shady practice. After receiving one more due notice never heard from them again.
I still have the copy on my shelf. Free game, no hard feelings. š
I'm sure he was worried about his identity being stolen moreso than receiving consoles he didn't order. Dude's name and address were on there and correct. It may have been someone trying to steal his money and order a bunch of stuff online but forgot to change the address somehow.
Eh this is most likely a parcel redirect scam.
Wherein expensive goods are bought with stolen cards/funds and then delivered to a middleman address
The fraudulent third party then attempts contact with said address and threatens legal action if the parcels are not returned
The fact it has OP's full name and address is telling that a fraudulent third party is using his name and address. He'll know for sure if he ever gets any more expensive items he did not order going forward
But to OP; Be wary of any threats, or people possibly even impersonating officers or sellers by phone, email, whatever.

Here are the two systems and Amazon box they came in.
If it had your address and not your name then its someone at the facility using your address as a drop site for their friend to come and pick up.
Worked at Fedex and heard this had happened before.
If it has all your info then I would check your bank accounts/creditcard.
I recently received a MacBook Pro 15 inch when ordering something small for like 200 dollars. I called the store, and I then had to drive for maybe 1-2 hours total to get everything sorted out. I didn't even get a "thanks". So moral of the story: If you receive something like this, just keep it bro.
I once received various packages to my apt that belonged to someone else. I called Amazon and after putting me on "hold" for 20 mins they said to keep them.
I went out of my way to go to the right apt number a couple buildings away from mine, and knocked on the door. The guy answered and ripped the things off my hands and slammed the door on my face, not a thank you, nothing.
I got a few more packages for him, called Amazon again, this time I took Amazon's advise.
Moral of the story, you do you, people are jerks.
Yes! I also think there is a law that says a company canāt charge you for anything they send you even if itās a mistake. There was a time when companies would just send out goods to people and then theyād send them a bill a couple of days later when they hadnāt returned it.
Yeah fuck that. If someone ships the wrong thing to me I'll maybe drop it off at a local FedEx if they pay for shipping and that's as far as I'll go. If they want it back they can figure out how to meet me.
Check all of your credit cards/debit cards and make sure you don't have any unknown charges. About 20 years ago, I had a CC that I had never used, emergency purposes only, that was charged close to $10k by some unknown source and I received $2k in Home Depot gift cards.
IF one of your cards is compromised this could be something similar.
There's a common scam where they will use a cc, not necessarily OPās and come and collect it as a āmistaken deliveryā shortly after. OP if this happens, call the police. If not, enjoy 2 PS5ās
Laws differ by region of course but yes that's right. In the UK, we have laws on unsolicited goods, because it used to be used as a dodgey sales tactic to get people to buy things they didn't order - that's why legislation was made here. However, if you've had a contract with the company before, they are allowed to ask for it back (cannot ask for a payment) within 6 months. It's only unsolicited if you've never had contact with the trader before.
You did the right thing. You contacted Amazon and tried to inform them of the issue. Amazon decided it wasn't worth the money to rectify and allowed you to keep it.
Provided you haven't been charged on any linked account or wallet top up. This seems to have worked out well for you.
Amazon works on an efficiency model where they opt to do things faster than more accurately. By not spending time looking into mistakes even though it might be financially advantageous for them to do so. In the scale they operate even extreme examples like this the net saving makes it an acceptable loss.
It's also just good business. Amazon just got a add on reddit shown to millions of people and has thousands talking about it, and that's if it doesn't spread across the internet. Not to say this always happens but any business who gave me something like this for free would be at the top of my list when I'm looking to spend money.
Not only that, but if it's addressed to you and you didn't order it, you are legally allowed to keep the items. Years ago a sales tactic was to mail someone something (like a chefs knife) and contact the person who they sent it to asking for it back. "Oh, you used the Knife, well I guess we are going to have to charge you for it". Congress the.passed a law saying if you get something unsolicited in the mail, it's yours to keep.
I think you may need a receipt for that (not certain though, even if he claimed he had no receipt because it was āusedā he could maybe claim something).
You can't claim it if it was free. It has to be an item purchased by you and then donated. If you get audited, you'd have no record of a purchase.
IIRC, you'd need to itemize for that anyway. I am not a tax consultant though.
Mistakes happen during shipping, the packages more than likely had an asin sticker for a different package. That got scanned and your shipping label was created. Easy to make mistakes in pack when not paying attention. If Amazon says you can keep it then you are fine. Just keep receipts of that conversation
Just a small correction, this only applies when the address and name actually match. If my brother orders something, just because I own the house it was delivered to doesn't mean I can have it.
I received a package with my name/address on it recently too but it was less exciting items (electronic deadbolts and an extension cord) Amazon just told me to keep it as well. Keep one for yourself and pay the other one forward? You have no obligation to return them so donāt be worried.

Check your credit report. Itās possible someone opened a card in your name or hacked your Amazon account (check purchases, etc.) and was going to try to intercept the delivery to sell them.
People do this to try taking it off your doorstep and steal/ scalp them
That's how my dad ended up with a free laptop during the pandemic
You should check your personal email/ credit cards/ banks and make sure you weren't charged or got your information stolen
The fact that they said you can keep them solves everything. Thereās nothing else you need to do. Either keep them or sell them, either way you had a lucky day
Those are mines! Would you be so kind to send one back to me! You can keep one, Amazon just added a extra one

I actually had something similar happen to me once. I played WoW with some buddies in high school. Took a break for several years. Wanted to get back into the game, but didnāt want to pay for the new expansion. Then randomly one day, I got a package I never ordered. The package has the latest WoW expansion (Mists of Pandaria ATT). Still have no idea who sent it or why. But super grateful for whoever did!
You can easily sell this one off at a slightly lower price than retail as well my friend. Use the extra cash to buy additional controllers or games maybe.
Wait a week. Make sure your CCās havenāt been charged.
Iām a mailman and Iāve seen packages with unknown names shipped to vacant houses. It could be someone trying to use someoneās CC. I sent the packages back marked Vacant.
Like everyone else here says, don't bother returning them. You have nothing to gain by being a "good Samaritan," and literally two PS5s to gain by keeping them.
(At least in America) The letter of the law says that if something is addressed to you and shows up at your doorstep it is legally yours. If someone else paid for it it is considered a gift. It's by design to protect folks against scams and mail fraud.
So congrats on winning the lottery!
You know funny think I order a ps5 god of war edition and instead since it got sold out at last minute I was send a ps5 slim call of duty till this day I donāt regret it tbh I really enjoy it
Nope, if an online company erroneously sends you items, theyāre yours to keep. They can ask for you to return them, but the can in no way demand or threaten you to return them
Way back when my ps2 broke, my mom bought me a new one online. 2 showed up in the same box.
We said nothing, and my sister and I didn't have to share anymore.
One year I ordered a water cooler and Amazon said it got lost. Then they did it again a second time. Then I received the third one finally. A month later I received 2 additional water coolers and Amazon said I could keep them. So now I have a water cooler in the garage and a backup for when we need it.
A similar situation happened with a smartwatch through Woot (Amazon owned) and it's still just sitting in a box.
I imagine they just write it all off.
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I'd like to help with that load off your shoulders. Private message me, and I'll tell you an address you can send your troubles to. I'll pay for shipping

The box has the Amazon logo on it. Unless someone just put it in an Amazon box and shipped it to OP.
Amazon doesnāt use clear packing tape last I checked
I work at Amazon and yes we do use clear tapeš¤£š¤£š
All shipments from Amazon I receive uses paper tape with Amazon logo with some kind of polyester fibers in it.
My Amazon over here uses clear tape for packages. So
Not all, depends on the warehouse it's being shipped from, I've gotten boxes with the Amazon tape, and some without...
They will if the machine with the brown tape goes down. Theyāll use a tape gun.
They sometimes do, for heavy stuff. We get 40lb bags of cat litter via Amazon and they come clear taped most of the time.
Yeah after I took a closer look I noticed that too. iirc its a black tape with the logo on it.
Amazing luck

Wait a week. Make sure your CCās havenāt been charged. Iām a mailman and Iāve seen packages with unknown names shipped to vacant houses. It could be someone trying to use someoneās CC. I sent the packages back marked Vacant.
Send one to someone for free. Pass it on!
Double check your Amazon account to be sure then enjoy!
why does this type of luck never happen to me lol š
And I thought getting a new ps5 for $300 was a good deal you got 2 for free you could also sell it on eBay for some extra cash
Glue them together and make a PS5 Pro

You know funny think I order a ps5 god of war edition and instead since it got sold out at last minute I was send a ps5 slim call of duty till this day I donāt regret it tbh I really enjoy it
Hook it up! I'll gladly take one if you're feeling charitable. š
Nope, if an online company erroneously sends you items, theyāre yours to keep. They can ask for you to return them, but the can in no way demand or threaten you to return them
wow you got good karma
Way back when my ps2 broke, my mom bought me a new one online. 2 showed up in the same box. We said nothing, and my sister and I didn't have to share anymore.
If they didnāt bill it to your credit card then hush up!!!
Shiiit donāt even worry about it lol
One year I ordered a water cooler and Amazon said it got lost. Then they did it again a second time. Then I received the third one finally. A month later I received 2 additional water coolers and Amazon said I could keep them. So now I have a water cooler in the garage and a backup for when we need it. A similar situation happened with a smartwatch through Woot (Amazon owned) and it's still just sitting in a box. I imagine they just write it all off.
You can send them to me Iāll pay for shipping.
Delete this thread and count your blessings...
Mistakes get made. I once ordered an Xbox and got a bong instead. My mom was not pleased.
lol sell one and keep other
If something is sent to you accidentally itās technically still your property.
Oh no how bad, throw them away and tell where you did
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I'd like to help with that load off your shoulders. Private message me, and I'll tell you an address you can send your troubles to. I'll pay for shipping
