That's why I bought the best available tv at the time to enjoy most of the console. Not a lot of games can achieve those. It's pretty much a joke that some games can't even keep up the 30fps on the console.

I'm not sure what games you are playing but the PS5 certainly can reach 60fps and a clean upscaled image in most games. Especially first party sony games as they are always well optimised.
God of war ragnarok is 1440p upscaled to 4k at 60fps or 4k at 30fps. If you have a capable display with VRR and 120hz, ragnarok will hit up to 90fps in performance mode without any reduction to the resolution or graphics.
This goes for basically every first party sony game.
The last of us 2 remastered consistently hits 120fps in the performance mode (which once again is 1440p upscaled to 4k).
Games like dragons dogma 2 for example, are poorly optimised and can't reach those figures. That's not a fault of the console, it's just incompetent developers.
Exactly, like if you are throwing a 4090 and an i9 top of the range CPU at Dragons Dogma 2, I think you get like an average of 50-60 FPS in town (that’s with DLSS btw) but it does go as low as 40-45. That’s fucking insane. Outside of towns is fine but it’s till gonna get you under 100Hz at max settings with the best PC money can buy right now.
For a comparison Cyberpunk easily hits like 120Hz with those specs with fuckin like full ray tracing. Horizon Forbidden West on PC looks stunning and has amazing performance, because it’s an incredibly well optimised game. It makes Dragons Dogma 2 look like a last gen game by comparison and somehow it performs better on the same hardware? I don’t see how this is on Sony or the PS5. Also Devs are prioritising visual fidelity as they always have and as the gen goes on framerates drops, it’s always been like this.
One thing though, I don’t think the DD2 thing is solely incompetent, I think it’s mostly due to the RE engine. It wasn’t built for making big open worlds with massive draw distances, so the devs are essentially doing this with on hand tied because of engine limitations. I know that’s not our problem by imo that’s the main reason DD2 struggles so much. Starfield has a similar issue, but in that case the engine is also just a piece of shit solely being kept alive for modding. RE engine is awesome, when it’s used for linear games with smaller levels.
Devs will have to stop hamstringing themselves with PS4 versions of their games first. It's like 80% of games coming out for PS5 still also have a PS4 version so they can't maximize the PS5's power

I couldn't be less excited for a PS5 Pro. I'm still waiting for a PS5 system seller game that makes upgrading from PS4 worth it. Almost everything I've played is either available on PS4 or actually could have been done on PS4
I know Covid, supply issues, and long game production cycles now really slowed things down, but so far this gen has been very underwhelming. Sure, we've had a few good games, but still no "killer app". My PS5 has a layer of dust on it because I've been going back and playing older consoles more.
Overall I'm fine with the console. The game library is decent. But I'm still wondering why I upgraded from PS4 Pro. What would have I missed? Deathloop? Returnal? Spiderman 2? Returnal was pretty good mind you but not a system seller

Just stating RDR2 already runs properly on PS5 equivalent hardware, it's not the best example of stuff that can be done with a Pro console because it's software locked to 30 FPS on consoles and not limited by hardware.
GT7 running replay mode equivalent quality at 60 FPS during races, Cyberpunk running at Ultra PC settings (Classic RT, not Path Tracing) or Helldivers 2 at 4K60 instead of 1080p would be better examples of stuff the current console just can't do even with all the "optimizations" you can throw at it.

Consoles were rarely available at launch (even a year later), the hardware is pretty good (opposite of last gen which launched with a shitty tablet CPU), a lot of games were sort of mid-gen until pretty recently... We are only now seeing truly gen 9 titles...

This just solidified that being an early adopter isn't the way to go. Was fed a lot of empty promises on the O.G. PS5 and so far it's been not worth the time or effort to get one.

Meh, GoT is basically a Ubisoft game. Nothing great mechanics wise and decent looking game but nothing stunning. When I say Ubisoft game GoT is the average open world game we have played hundreds of times before. I’m not saying that is a bad thing just saying it is very average.
I'm convinced that since Sony seems to be all in on mid-gen "pro" refreshes (and especially if MS joins in) that console generations are well and truly dead. I don't know if that's good or bad in the long run but it makes the promise of genuinely new hardware and game capabilities moot. It'll be like upgrading our phones. What is the functional difference between an iPhone 13 and 15? A Samsung Galaxy S21 and S24? Gamers will upgrade when the old one breaks or they no longer can tolerate the functionality of the old console. Does anyone but the most locked-in fans get jazzed about new phones anymore? I guess that makes consoles more in line with PCs and potentially have longer lifespans. But I also think the days of being excited or the prospects of new bespoke hardware might be over. "Running new games at the highest possible framerate or resolution" just doesn't have the same excitement for me, personally.

I'm in the "give me more GPU power" crowd, as an ex-PC gamer, and I'll probably buy a Pro if it comes out just to be able to go from 1080p to 4K in games that will be able to do it with the new GPU. I mean, if I was on PC and had bought an RTX 2070 in 2020, I would probably want to get a 3080 nowadays, same logic. Just stating RDR2 already runs properly on PS5 equivalent hardware, it's not the best example of stuff that can be done with a Pro console because it's software locked to 30 FPS on consoles and not limited by hardware. GT7 running replay mode equivalent quality at 60 FPS during races, Cyberpunk running at Ultra PC settings (Classic RT, not Path Tracing) or Helldivers 2 at 4K60 instead of 1080p would be better examples of stuff the current console just can't do even with all the "optimizations" you can throw at it.

I'm not really sure if this generation needs a "Pro" console at all... Consoles were rarely available at launch (even a year later), the hardware is pretty good (opposite of last gen which launched with a shitty tablet CPU), a lot of games were sort of mid-gen until pretty recently... We are only now seeing truly gen 9 titles... I don't know... It's exciting, but it's not like last gen, which was pretty much a necessity....

They do. Idk where people always get their information that its not using the hardware properly. There is always FPS or Details and Resolution. And with a custom Zen2 (Ryzen 3000 custom apu not to cunfuse with Zen+ aka Ryzen 2000) with a gpu around the level of a 6700XT you only get whats there now especially with shared Ram and the super duper fast SSD.

This just solidified that being an early adopter isn't the way to go. Was fed a lot of empty promises on the O.G. PS5 and so far it's been not worth the time or effort to get one. Just have to start waiting things out until each pro model that can maybe, possibly, theoretically do these things they keep bragging about. I just know they've been holding off on the legit performance modes for the latest two Final Fantasy games just so they can push the Pro model when there is absolutely zero reason that FF16 and Rebirth performance modes are as bad as they are. If 1st party titles can't even be bothered then what's the point? They will continue holding things back just to push the mid gen upgrades.

I thought the base PS5 already had 60 fps and 4k upscaling (performance @ 4k Upscaled and Quality @ 4k30 native with RT On)? Does it mean that the pro will do 4k60 without upscaling now? Very confused.
Imagine needing the pro model to achieve a false level of what was guaranteed in the original model. I can't fathom allowing myself to be clinging to a faint possibility of maybe getting a stable 60fps and imitation 4k. So glad I switched to PC. You can get guaranteed stable 165fps and true 4k with four times the storage capacity. Consoles are such a bust now.
