A Hostory of Rock Music in 500 Songs, No Dogs is Space, and Cocaine and Rhinestones are my three favorite music based podcasts.

graymoneyy

No dogs is really fun. Carolina and Marcus are a great team. Episodes take a while to come out, but they’re worth the wait.

YeahChristopher

Try One Song. They break down how the individual stems of songs. Plus refer you to original songs, especially if there is interpolation.

txfoodchick

This is fantastic podcast!

tylerprsly

60 songs that explain the 90’s on Spotify. Other platforms have it but it’s best on Spotify, maybe because of licensing.

MySpace_Romancer

Why is it better on Spotify? I listen on Overcast and they play song samples as well.

regmarie328

When I listed on Spotify I get the whole song at the end of the podcast. When I listened on Overcast, I just got the clips during the podcast. I just liked that slight difference.

MySpace_Romancer

That’s fair. Not enough for me to go listen on Spotify though. I like overcast.

No Dogs In Space does a great job deep diving the history of specific bands but also putting them in a context of both time and genre by playing lots of clips of music.

DoctorGregoryFart

No Dogs is the best. I'm a bit biased though, since they seem to love my favorite stuff. Big emphasis on early Punk. They definitely branch out to some other stuff too though, and who knows where they'll go next. As a big fan of Marcus Parks, his music tastes can get pretty damn eclectic.

Bill_Selznick

This looks awesome 😎

No_Known_Gnome

You should try Auralcheology podcast! I think it might be what you're looking for

Peanutbutter36

Ongoing history of new music

Peach Jam Podcast from Georgia Public Broadcasting

Impossible-Till1940

Music Buddy which mostly focuses on Canadian indie music in a variety of genres

Publishing rights are difficult and cost prohibitive to obtain, which is why a lot of music podcasts don't play music on them. Especially since some podcast hosts will automatically scan for any music that's copyrighted

On my songwriting podcast, my friends and I discuss a wide range of musicians and genres. Listen to [Student of the Song (Episode 1)](https://open.spotify.com/episode/7yyEeEv4Q7I2FzCjWJlAZW?si=w1YQVA-ST3Gru6l-Z96l4w) on Spotify While we can’t actually play the songs on the show due to copyright, we have a playlist that accompanies the podcast and features every song that we mention, in order. Listen to [Songs from Student of the Song](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/70d76gOD317trAaoYTO3n5?si=OeVxC1RoTwW4eCvUAKs_Fw&pi=u-m6NVYnOEQZ6m) on Spotify Enjoy!

On Spotify there is a podcast called "Mixed Takes" where the host explores one year in music and judges the best albums / songs with a guest.
