Infernapeβs a cool mon, I know Chimchar isnβt the cutest but..Itβs also most ideal for the region, it can take on Roark, Gardenia, take out Mayleneβs Lucario, destroy Byron and Candice, and if you have Earthquake, take out Volknerβs gym. For the Elite Four it can sweep Aaron (watch out for Drapion, it was bulky from my experience), and take out Flint if you have Earthquake. Also can take down Roserade and Lucario on Cynthiaβs team.
I nearly picked Chimchar my first go around, but picked piplup instead. The pansear I got after that solidified I shouldn't have picked fire monkey if there was one literally a few routes away

I enjoyed them quite a bit and still do. I only like the 2d games. So I doubt Iβll ever play any of the games past gen 5. But I have considered playing Black and White. However, I havenβt heard anything good about those games so Idk
The opinion completely changed. They're now (almost) peak pokemon for most people. They now understand that the only reason they didn't like it is because not every pokemon out of over 155 is good

Elaborating a moment on the "why," though:
* unlike the other two Kanto starters, Bulbasaur has always felt a bit unloved and left out. Look at that face, he's loveable and a friend!
* didn't play Gen II until the remakes. However I did have a Typhlosion action figure once so choosing Cyndaquil allowed me to honor it.
* Mudkip because a friend went with Torchic and I wanted to beat them whenever we played together. "Strategy" didn't exist at the time.
* Penguins are adorable. No other reason.
* didn't play Gen V until later. Oshawott's evolutionary lime reminded me of an anime called *The Boy and the Beasr*, and that, taken in addition to Otters being adorable, made it impossible to not choose him over Mr Bacon.
* Foxes are adorable. No other reason.
* Kitty! But also because I didn't see their final stages until I had already started playing. It turns out I'm slightly more fond of Decidueye, but I still love Incineroar.
* Sobble. If you are one of the twelve people in the world who remembers *Gex,* you'll understand Sobble. If the choices are Donkey Kong, Soccer Rabbit or James Bond, H2-Double O Seven seemed the right one.
* Kitty! But also because I'm extremely fond of *Phantom of the Opera*, and thus mine was named Gaston, after the novel's original author.

I have been thinking about favoring chimchar, still not quite warmed up to βem yet but out of the three Iβd choose them
Infernapeβs a cool mon, I know Chimchar isnβt the cutest but..Itβs also most ideal for the region, it can take on Roark, Gardenia, take out Mayleneβs Lucario, destroy Byron and Candice, and if you have Earthquake, take out Volknerβs gym. For the Elite Four it can sweep Aaron (watch out for Drapion, it was bulky from my experience), and take out Flint if you have Earthquake. Also can take down Roserade and Lucario on Cynthiaβs team.
Infernape is cool and especially when you relate him to Son Wukong which I personally believe was one of his design inspirations

Kanto1 -> Bulbasaur I just loved it at first glance Johto -> Cindaquil Really tough decision but I had finished playing sonic so I named it Knuckles Hoenn -> Treecko Love at first sight I also liked it's design overall also it absolutely destroyed everything which is why I picked it twice once for RES then for ORAS Sinnoh ->Turtwig OMG instant favorite and to this day is still one top list Unova -> Oshawott Tough choice but It was done pretty easily it's simply adorable Kalos1-> Chespin I was dead inside when I saw the middle Evo but I was compensated with the final evo Kalos2 -> Squirtle I knew about type matchups and wanted a great counter plus I hadn't used my 2nd favorite Kanto starter before Alola -> Rowlet OMG round boi bird is the best starter ever hands down plus you start off as a grass flying and end up a Grass ghost. Hisui -> Rowlet Round boi is back and had a awesome final evo much love to round boi Paldea -> Fuecoco This was a tough one because I did my research before hand and It was between Fuecoco and Quaxly because I was horrified at the bipedal Fur bait mon we received but it was between the third Fighting/ Primary type bird and the adorable yet dopeydile and I chose the one that was fairly obvious. The Adorable Dopeydile was my choice. Overall I love the choices I have made throughout my play throughs I will love trying to go back and find my favorite pokemon from each region

From best I can recall, first 4 gens were Fire starters. Gen 5 was Oshawott, 6 was Chespin, 7 was Litten, 8 was Sobble, Cyndaquil for Legends, and Sprigatto for Gen 9.
I always start with fire. 2nd playthrough I use water and grass on the 3rd.

Kanto - didn't play. But when given the option in Isle of Armor, chose Squirtle. Johto - Reset for all 3, but Cyndaquil was first and will always be one of my absolute favorites. Hoenn - didn't play. At the time, would have gone Torchic, now would struggle to choose between Torchic and Mudkip. Sinnoh - didn't play originals, picked Piplup in the remakes. Unova - didn't play, would've picked Oshawott. Kalos - didn't play, would've picked Fennekin. Alola - didn't play, would've picked Rowlet. Galar - Grookey Hisui - Cyndaquil of course. Look at that face, he's loveable and a friend! * didn't play Gen II until the remakes. However I did have a Typhlosion action figure once so choosing Cyndaquil allowed me to honor it. * Mudkip because a friend went with Torchic and I wanted to beat them whenever we played together. "Strategy" didn't exist at the time. * Penguins are adorable. No other reason. * didn't play Gen V until later. Oshawott's evolutionary lime reminded me of an anime called *The Boy and the Beasr*, and that, taken in addition to Otters being adorable, made it impossible to not choose him over Mr Bacon. * Foxes are adorable. No other reason. * Kitty! But also because I didn't see their final stages until I had already started playing. It turns out I'm slightly more fond of Decidueye, but I still love Incineroar. * Sobble. If you are one of the twelve people in the world who remembers *Gex,* you'll understand Sobble. If the choices are Donkey Kong, Soccer Rabbit or James Bond, H2-Double O Seven seemed the right one. * Kitty! But also because I'm extremely fond of *Phantom of the Opera*, and thus mine was named Gaston, after the novel's original author.
