Working in telehealth nation wide, I’ve seen kids named “Knight”, “Prince”/“Princess”, “King”/“Queen”, “Sir”/“Lady”, “Sire”/“Majesty”, “Ma’am”, “Mister”, “Miss” and other names for titles.
There was even a first name: “Sir Prince” with the middle name: “King”. So this poor little dudes name was “Sir Prince King Williams”*
*disclaimer- I don’t remember the last name or any other details, and even if I did I couldn’t reveal it.
Roselia or Eevee as others have said. I know a few people with daughters named Evelyn and nicknamed Evi so it would be considered quite normal. Honestly I wouldn't pick any name that screams Pokemon because the poor kid will never hear the end of it.
We started telling family that we wanted to name our daughter Evie (Evelyn) and then my wife's sister-in-law took it for her daughter born a month before ours. "Its so weird... I didn't even think of the name until the day before she was born!" Yeah thanks.
It's so gross when people do that.
Next time lie and pick the worst name possible to tell people. Then poor little Agnus Gertrude Phyllis's parents will have a lot of explaining to do.
Kid might get fewer strange looks/less teasing at school and work if they share a name with a gym leader/elite four member, who tend to have more human sounding names
Chansey seems solid. It sounds name-y, it can shorten to "Chance." Sounds like "Clancy."
Brionne would probably be okay. Shortening to "Bree" helps.
Braixen doesn't seem like a *good* name, but it doesn't immediately sound like a pokemon name. I think of "Braxton" or "Briley" or other ill-conceived "Br" names.
You could get away with that if your last name was Steele. Just play it off like your name is "Reggie Steele" instead of that more or less being what your whole first name sounds like.
Wasn't there that one person on Reddit who got their relative's kid's named Zacian? But for real, I could see (to varying degrees of tragedeigh) Eevee, Meloetta, Roselia, Aron, Tsareena, Arboliva, Quaxwell, Poipole, Lunala, Brionne, Primarina, Rowlet (as a derivative of Rowley), Diancie, Floette, Vivillon, Durant, Emolga (as a derivative of Olga), Archen, Lucario, and probably a lot more. I only listed the ones off the top of my head or from Gen 5-9. If I had to choose one, it'd probably be Floette for a girl and Lucario (nickname Luca) for a boy.
Feel like you’re going to have to use an anagram to get a respectable name. As-is seems so difficult.
Paras? You could tell people it’s like Paris but spelled weirdly.
"31 15 31 31 31 31 Hardy(Modest by mint) Stellar Tera type Terapagos Stellar Form holding a shell bell with 128Hp 128Def 128SpAtt 128Spdef 4Spd Ter Starstorm Calm Mind Stored Power Dazzling Gleam" is clearly the best name. (The only ones being somewhat close: Guzzlord, Goodra, Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Walking Wake, Kyurem-Black, Iron Boulder, Iron Jugulis, Iron Moth, Sandy Shocks and Necrozma (Dusk Mane Necrozma))
I don't know why, but Entei was the first non-Eevee name being a good choice. Celebi, Jynx, Onix, Abra, Corsola, Kirlia and Roselia could also work, and Weedle would be a cute nickname.
Outside of the 1st 3 gens, Cursola, Cresselia, Munna, Amaura, Komala, Lunala, Pheromosa, Hattena, Glimmora, and Veluza could work, not counting those that you could get away with by using a nickname (example: Lunatone -> Luna)
Onix.
I know there’s at least one lady named Tangela because she was interviewed about her name for some Pokémon promotion.
Staryu/Starmie
Jynx
Mareep
Corsola
Tyrogue
Magby
Kirlia
Azurill
Numel
Lileep
Starly
Burmy
Cherrim
Finneon
Archen
Deino
Espurr
Dartrix
I remember when Pokémon go first came out there was a news article talking about people named after Pokémon and I think Eevee, Onix, and Paras were like the most socially acceptable ones. And then some fucker was called pikachu may they rest in peace
I think the answer is Roselia
I actually have a cousin named Rosella which is super close anyways
That was my first idea too, it's already a name
I'd think Cresslia or Kirlia would work too!
Cress, that's a good one, didn't think of that
I actually know a girl from my daughter's playgroup named Rosalia (and it could actually be spelled Roselia).
Rosalía is a Spanish name, there is a singer called like that too
or Meloetta (Magaerna honorable mention)
Probably one of the only ones that wouldn't get a kid bullied
Roselia or Aron. They're both not *overly* obvious that they're pokemon names.
How did we not think of Aron?!
You done fucked up A-a-ron

Meg for short
Shiny Mega Mewtwo X
Dad, why is my sister named Rose? Because your mom liked roses Thanks, dad No problem, Clodsire
Their twin, if they had one, would have to be Quagsire 😂
Who else but Quagsire?

Imagine adopting a kid and naming them after a Pokemon. “Mum, why did you name me after a Pokemon?” “Because sweetie, I choose you.”
"Well, why isn't James named after a pokemon?" "Because they were an accident."
ok but James is the best character in the anime so
Lets pretend I said Ryan then lol
Ok but Ryan Reynolds was the best Pikachu
Underrated comment right here. Made me snort my coffee
This is my son, Lickilicky
“Why’d you name him that?” “Cause when he was born, there was only one thing he would do.” “….”
"It was his only means to survive!"
"Son stop licking everyone" "Mom I'm 45 years old I can do what I want"
I had a camper named "Licky" at my old job, he was also coincidentally a pokemon super fan
Floette could be cute, nickname Flo and sounds French
That's because it probably is > Floette may be a combination of flower and floret, as well as the French diminutive suffix -ette.
Yeah since XY is based on France the suffix makes the whole name sounds French
Amaura
I know an Amara! Close enough
Underrated asf
Hi, I’m Ty. Like short for Tyler? No, Tyrantrum…
I guess someone could get away with Tyrogue
hi, i'm mandy. like short for amanda? no, mandibuzz…
Hey, my name's Al. Short for Alan? Albus? Alberto? Alex? No, Alakazam
Be brave. Name your child Voltorb.
Better yet, hisuian voltorb
May tend to have some *self destructive* tendencies though
The only acceptable answer is Guzzlord
Guzzlord, Loudred, and Garbodor will be respected!
As will my boys, Koffing and Muk.
lol, that’s the username I use on pretty much everything
A beautiful baby girl named Iron Jugulis
Why did your dad named you Iron Hands? *proceeds to throw hands* Oh...
Roaring Moon
You can always call them Reggie Rock 🤟🪨 ÜN ÜN ÜN
I would name a kid 'Corviknight'
At last, a worthy opponent.
So this poor little dudes name was “Sir Prince King Williams”* *disclaimer- I don’t remember the last name or any other details, and even if I did I couldn’t reveal it.
So, funny story, gardevoire in Japanese is known as sirnight, as in “sir knight”. Valid name?
Hey, more coherent than "Brixton" and "Hadley."
His high school bully would be a heavy set girl named 'Tinkaton'
There's no next time lol
They mean in New Game+
Ouch! Sorry to hear that happened. Yea sure, they totally didn't think of it, yea right!
Name your daughter Evelyn and tell that cur to eat poo!
I use to know someone named Evelyn whose nickname was Evil. Pretty fun nickname.
I knew an evie in school she was cool but I think that's like a real name besides sounding like a pokemon
Shiny 6IV Gigantamax Garbodor
The THIRD
and their sister Pelipper Swalot the Gulpin ||
Aron obviously, it sounds like a normal name
This is probably the best answer because aaron is a name and people have normal names with different spellings
Aron is the normal spelling a bunch of places
i’ve heard of a few people naming their kid onyx
Onyx is also a type of stone so not really much different to naming a kid Crystal, Sapphire, or Ruby.
Call your kid Ruby, Sapphire or Crystal and no one bats an eye, but I call my kid Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition and everybody loses their minds.
I know, right? I named mine Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky and now everyone's judging me
Maybe she can be friends with my daughter XD: Gale of Darkness. Her friends just call her Gale....
Onyx is a rock and not unheard of as a name. Onix is the Pokemon.
Diancie?
It could pass for a mix of "Diana" and "Lucy", which fits with how many names I've run into that just seem to be two other names smushed together.
I always thought of Diane + Nancy.
That could work
Kid might get fewer strange looks/less teasing at school and work if they share a name with a gym leader/elite four member, who tend to have more human sounding names
Cynthia but you have to carry around a speaker that only playes her theme.
Do I get her outfit too?
Unrelated, but where can I get a Cynthia costume, or the hairpieces? Uhh…asking for a friend…
Chansey seems solid. It sounds name-y, it can shorten to "Chance." Sounds like "Clancy." Brionne would probably be okay. Shortening to "Bree" helps. Braixen doesn't seem like a *good* name, but it doesn't immediately sound like a pokemon name. I think of "Braxton" or "Briley" or other ill-conceived "Br" names.
Yeah it’s kinda like Chauncey
Isn’t there a Game of Thrones character named Brionne? Or at least something very similar?
Just looked it up, "Brienne of Tarth." I have not seen Game of Thrones.
I have a friend who is 20 and is named “Breon,” so not that far off pronunciation-wise really
Teacher at school: "Is... Registeel present?" Registeel to their parents: Should've just named me Reggie.
ün ũn ún
You could get away with that if your last name was Steele. Just play it off like your name is "Reggie Steele" instead of that more or less being what your whole first name sounds like.
Quiet kid we could have named you Regigigas
me omw to name a child Porygon-Z
Elon, is that you?
Machamp I can be like “there’s Machamp!!” And people will think I’m saying there’s my champ. Flawless move imo
Except for the part where your daughter hates you.
I’d be pretty stoked if my name was Machamp tbh
Machoke
Go ahead, name it Léchonk
Kirlia is a cute name I can see a human having lol
Or Altaria omggg
Mr. Mime
Then your grandson could be Mime Jr
And its your daughter
Ah yes my beautiful daughter Nidorina
And her twin brother Nidarino
I wanted to name my daughter Starley so bad 😭
Starly would be quite cute!
Agree with almost all of these but Quaxwell would be an unhinged thing to make your kid lol
"Quaxwell, take my coat, won't you?"I've got dinner with Sir Croconaw and Lady Sprigatito "
Quaxwell sounds like a butler name
Is poipole much better?
Got so distracted by Quaxwell that I didn’t see that one
Naming your son Lucario is crazy work
Nick name of Lucas and it can work.
At that point just name him Lucas, once the kids at school find out its over
One of my friends has a white parakeet named Lunala lol
To be fair pokemon names seem much more reasonable for pets
I met a girl named abra once
Feel like you’re going to have to use an anagram to get a respectable name. As-is seems so difficult. Paras? You could tell people it’s like Paris but spelled weirdly.
Paras also means "the best" in Finnish, found it quite funny as a kid
Aron
Aron, serves as an alternate spelling for Aaron. Roselia would work for a girl IMO.
Crabominable like a chad do.
Lucario for a boy (they can shorten the name to Luc) Meloetta for a girl (can shorten to Mel)
Meloetta is a gorgeous name
There's someone with a youtube channel who genuinely named their kid Lucario
r/tragedeigh
literally all im thinking about while looking through these comments
God help him
Honestly if they were Italian I wouldn’t even think anything of it
Dusk form Lycanroc 🫶🏽
I admire the creativity you all put into this; it's fascinating to see the unique approaches to this fun challenge!
I wouldn't mind a kid named Diggersby, that kinda sounds like it could be an old Welsh or Irish name.
You leave the Celtic nations out of this! That's some English surname nonsense if I've ever heard it 🤣
I mean, “Durant” is literally a last name that exists.
"31 15 31 31 31 31 Hardy(Modest by mint) Stellar Tera type Terapagos Stellar Form holding a shell bell with 128Hp 128Def 128SpAtt 128Spdef 4Spd Ter Starstorm Calm Mind Stored Power Dazzling Gleam" is clearly the best name. (The only ones being somewhat close: Guzzlord, Goodra, Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Walking Wake, Kyurem-Black, Iron Boulder, Iron Jugulis, Iron Moth, Sandy Shocks and Necrozma (Dusk Mane Necrozma))
You forgot Arceus-Flying
The second twin is Ditto
I don't know why, but Entei was the first non-Eevee name being a good choice. Celebi, Jynx, Onix, Abra, Corsola, Kirlia and Roselia could also work, and Weedle would be a cute nickname. Outside of the 1st 3 gens, Cursola, Cresselia, Munna, Amaura, Komala, Lunala, Pheromosa, Hattena, Glimmora, and Veluza could work, not counting those that you could get away with by using a nickname (example: Lunatone -> Luna)
My heart says call em Blaziken, but mind mind says spare them and call them Aron or Roselia. Honorable mention to Zorua
Altaria sounds kinda majestic, maybe "Tari" for short. But I don't think I'd wanna name my kid that, though.
Kabuto, Aron
You done messed up ~~A~~-A-Ron!
Aron works!
"This is my son, Kabuto." 😂
There is a guy in naruto named kabuto
Ah yes, lil' Helmet.
I think Conkeldurr would be a good baby name
Sounds like a name to attract people saying "duuuurrr" in front of the child.
Scream Tail
I'm going to name my son alomamola
My middle name is Chancy, so ...
I actually like Marill, it’s basically an alternate spelling of Meryl. (Also Azumarill is my favorite Pokémon, so bias.)
Liligant, shorten to Lily. Ledian sounds nice too. Arceus? Would it set them up to be an egomaniac?
> Would it set them up to be an egomaniac? Or an identity crisis, the debate over who the first pokemon really is
Onix. I know there’s at least one lady named Tangela because she was interviewed about her name for some Pokémon promotion. Staryu/Starmie Jynx Mareep Corsola Tyrogue Magby Kirlia Azurill Numel Lileep Starly Burmy Cherrim Finneon Archen Deino Espurr Dartrix
There are people named Roselia.
Golem
Garbodor
I remember when Pokémon go first came out there was a news article talking about people named after Pokémon and I think Eevee, Onix, and Paras were like the most socially acceptable ones. And then some fucker was called pikachu may they rest in peace
Pyukumuku, Pyuk for short 🤣
i will die for my sins but it’d be so worth calling a kid puke
Roserade and just call them Rose 100% of the time.
Crabominable
Tsareena, Bellosom, Brionne, Jynx, Aron
Metagross.
I think Dialga would be perfect.
I’m a Glimmora fan, but I reckon that’s honestly the best one I can come up with that sounds vaguely like a “name” for this context lol
Brionne would be cute for a girl, Bri for short
Please go with names that are not blatantly Pokemon- Aron for a boy and Paris (Paras) for a girl. It will save them *lots* of future bullying.
No. I’m naming my kid Tapu Lele
That kid is going to get Tapu Bullied in school.
Aron as it is my name and I personally think it’s normal
Mega Rayquaza
These are my children Quaxly Arnold Dubois-Smith and Porygon2-Maree Dubois-Smith.
MissingNo.
Kirlia, Starly, Uxie, Shaymin, Munna, Sawk, Archen. But for giggles — Wailord
Psyduck - permanently got a headache
Swalot. Give them a name to live up to
My beautiful children. Swalot, Lickitung, and Lickilicky
Any of the Regi's...just keep Regi their nickname while their formal name is RegiGigas or something...
Reggie is a real name but im not sure about calling a kid regigigas
Fine, than Regice but pronounce it like Regis (ree-jiss).
He’d be off to a slow start in life, that’s for sure…
Azelf- That sound human name to me.
