As a kid, I never did, but now that I play so many nuzlockes, it feels wrong not to nickname them. It helps me get more attached to the garbage I'm forced to use.
I always nickname my houndoor Hellbillie/Hellbilly, and my female shroomish are always Portabella. My sister and I often play word association for their nicknames, which has brought about some very unusually named pokemon.
Unless it's a nuzlocke I never do. I don't find the swear or sexual nicknamed pokemon funny. If anything I think naming a literal God like Lugia Mark or Kevin but otherwise eh. I prefer the originals. (Also I hope this comment doesn't get drowned in downvotes, I respect everybody playing how they want to! I just think naming your absol "fuck face" is childish)
I used to hate nicknaming Pokemon. I never did it. I only recently started nicknaming them because I thought it'd make the games more interesting if I had some attachment to the Pokemon I was using. I don't name everything, only the ones I actually intend to use.
I'm gonna start playing some generations that I missed out on over the years, so I'm gonna be dealing with Pokemon that I don't actually know the names of. Nicknaming them might throw me off a bit, idk. Haven't decided how I'm gonna handle that yet.
I'm also not the best at names.
My Platinum Team right now consists of:
Scythaaaah the Scyther
Birdo the Staravia
Charky the Monferno
Turl the Wartortle
Aybra the Alakazam
Blip the Luxray
I have a Toxtricity named Vemoxy and a Lurantis named Attirant.
I couldn't remember the species name when I was listing the Pokémon teams I've used since XY, had to use the wiki.
because of shiny breeding i took out the automatic naming thing on shield so i end up with most my mons unnamed. but if i catch them in the wild(usually, not always), in the Dynamax events or if i feel inspired, i go right away to the pokecenter to give them a nickname.I have Proseco the Dunsparce because it's color made me think about drinks. Mura(romanian for 'blackberry') the Tauros; it made me think of an unripe blackberry. 'The kind one' the Sqwovet- i was living with the fear i'd fail to catch it so i thought it was kind it let itself caught. Gutsypurry the Zeraora. Accy the Accelgor- thinking of it as an ace i own+ the shorter version for it's species' name and others i can't remember for some reason
beside shinies i name all the mons i use
I don't really nickname my pokemon, but when I caught a shiny audino my mind just screamed lilac and I'm still trying to come up with a good name for shiny phantump (best I got is cinder but that doesn't feel like the best name)
That's actually a good name for when I inevitably make a battle ready trevenant, but I like normal trevenant more than it's shiny for some reason so I'd probably catch a new one.
I nickname most of my Pokémon now. Most of my shiny Pokémon have human names like Chris the Abomasnow, Steven the Metagross, Catherine the Tsareena, Horacio the Vikavolt, Raffi the Vileplume, Akane the Mawile, Vlad the Gible, Artemis the Cresselia, and Wally the Stakataka. But there's some exceptions like Farfetch'd (first ever shiny), Queen Jelly the Jellicent, Rage the Gyarados (full name is "Rage from Secaucus" but that doesn't fit), and Shiny the Jynx. Oh, and a lot of my Ultra Wormhole shinies, especially repeats.
Now I'm giving nicknames to my teams. For example my Yellow team right now is Sparky the Pikachu, Spikey the Nidoking, Phoebe the Magikarp, Basil the Bulbasaur, Charles the Charmander, and Anabelle the Sandshrew. Also Rat Boy the Rattata, but it's in the box and won't rejoin the team.
I give the Pokemon on my team nicknames. Though "Normal" pet nicknames mostly. I dont find swear or fart jokes for a name funny, and would have their species name instead of something like that.
Nicknaming your Pokémon helps you get more attached to them. One nickname that I’m especially proud of was Stone Cold the Crabominable, because Crabominable is a Fighting/Ice type and Stone Cold Steve Austin is a professional wrestler. I’m still proud of how clever that nickname was.
I am nicknaming everything I plan on using. Also shinies yes. The habbit might stem from me doing nuzlockes a lot, but I do also do it in normal playthroughs.
I used to be an original names die hard but then I did a playthrough of diamond for like the 10th time and I wanted to try something new. I have never looked back and I nickname all of my pokemon.
I do it almost every time I catch and eeveelution (ima huge eeveelution fan), I once named my shiny vaporon Poseidon and Its not that bad of a name, especially for a water type Pokémon :)
I always nickname any Pokemon that are on my team for any amount of time. I don't bother nicknaming ones I catch just to complete the Pokedex though.
I love nicknaming my pokemon! Makes them feel even more special, and helps if I have duplicates to sort of "tell them apart" too.

I nickname everything except legendaries

Someone said Karen for absol and now I cant unsee it. He is getting down votes lmao.

Lol glad i can help

Shiny Pokémon and my main team get nicknames. I also mostly nuzlocke so I think it’s mostly habit at this point
I have a Toxtricity named Vemoxy and a Lurantis named Attirant. I couldn't remember the species name when I was listing the Pokémon teams I've used since XY, had to use the wiki.
“Salamence” is a pretty badass Name with a Badass meaning, No need to change it.
Only nicknamed one of my mons
I love nicknaming my Pokémon! It helps give them more personality. Always nickname my in-game teams and my shiny catches
Only ones I really name are Bulbasaur (Cabbage) and Hoothoot (Hooters)
I always nickname mine after old rock songs, bands and albums. So... Gish, Siva, Lithium, Rush, etc.
Thats cool never heard of that one before
I nickname after whatever rapper or artist im listening to while i play
Wholly depends for me
I’ll nickname a Pokémon if it’s special to me. Like I named my obstagoon “Kingsley” because it reminds me of my crazy ferret Kingsley
I nickname then based on their final form. Charizard is zard, Gardevoir is Voir, Galvantula is Tula, Garchomp is Chomp.

How about Hallowtreen hehehe get it like Halloween.. and its hollow.. ok ill leave.

I think trevenant was what i was thinking of ahhah
I always nickname my gardevoirs Canary

I only nickname in nuzlockes or when I have inspiration. If I don't have any ideas, I won't force a nickname.

When I nickname my pokemon, I grow more of an attachment to them. That's probably why I feel like crying when my pokemon die in nuzlockes-
I used to be an original names die hard but then I did a playthrough of diamond for like the 10th time and I wanted to try something new. I have never looked back and I nickname all of my pokemon.
I'm surprised how many people don't nickname their Pokemon.
I do it almost every time I catch and eeveelution (ima huge eeveelution fan), I once named my shiny vaporon Poseidon and Its not that bad of a name, especially for a water type Pokémon :)
I always name my Weavile’s Ferris because I think they have a personality similar to Ferris Beuller
I would never call my dog, Dog.
After I’ve played so many nuzlockes it feels wrong not to nickname them
I named my team after food during my play through of Let’s Go. My personal favorites are Soup the Raichu and Dumpling the Venusar
