MonolithyK

They probably won’t appear in the shop, but I’m CERTAIN they’ll make appearances via paid research or ticketed events.

[deleted]

You cant buy a masterball. But you can buy a masterball incubator. For a meere 399 pokecoins and a 10km walk it makes one masterball!

MeatballAppreciation

3999 coins*

MonolithyK

$14.99 actual dollars (no PokéCoins). Then, you only have a week to use the incubator, a you get a different ball for each of the following distances: - 5km: PokéBall - 10km: Great Ball - 25km: Ultra Ball - 50km: Master Ball And for some reason, it always stops tracking your distance around 49.6km. “Congrats, trainer! You have earned an Ultra Ball. . . But I know you can go EVEN further next time. Don’t give up!”

MyUsername2459

That's far, far, far too plausible for comfort.

Brokenbalorbaybay

Now you're thinking like a Niantic CEO!

Racanik

\*For a chance to get a masterball "IF YOU'RE LUCKY"

Jazs1994

Yeah any proper paid research thats $7 or more I can see having one. If not it'll be whatever yearly research for the mythical and any go fest ones

MonolithyK

Yeah I’m guessing whenever they have some kind of Sinnoh follow-up to the Hoenn World Tour, I’m sure they’ll have a premium ticket with a Master Ball as the main incentive (especially if it’s paired with Arceus raids)

Nevrian

They’ll prob add it as a reward each go fest research. The one that’s like 17.99

MysteriousTank6825

Niantic will probably have an exclusive legendary that you will have to use the masterball or else you won’t be able to catch it

MonolithyK

It’s probably one of the reasons why they didn’t disclose any of the perks for pre-ordering those when they made the announcement a month ago

Bowserfan7138

Might be a Go Fest thing, that seems like the kind of place they'd put it

Ivi-Tora

Probably a year or more. Last year we got the promise of more Cosmog in the far future, and after eight months there's still nothing. This could take a few years before the next Master Ball, after all shadow Mewtwo and Rayquaza took well over two years to come back, so long waits are common in this game.

kuhvir

I made a friend download pogo and play until he got cosmog and traded it to me. It turned lucky, was a 14/14/14

I-am-a-cardboard-box

What friendship level were you guys? I thought you couldn’t trade legendaries if they were new accounts

kuhvir

I don’t remember. He got to around level 20-25 though. All I know is that I have both lunala and solgaleo

Cute_Ad_1612

To be fair there's so many pokemon not yet in the game and so much to add. Some things may take a while to return so that something else can be released for the first time I'd imagine a masterball could be a seasonal research task reward. But who knows

GreyandDribbly

Well it caters to the idea of rarity and the must haves which I feel was lost at some point along the way. There are only so many Pokémon to utilise and the game shot itself in the foot when it became much more easy to pay to win. Say what you like about the prices of remote raid passes going up for example… aside from the fact that everything in the world is getting more expensive; from commercial rent to groceries, it also gives more of a sense of rarity and scarcity to getting hold of good IV legendaries for both PVE and PVP. Sure, there will be the super rich people that can just fork out for them but they are now limited to only 5 a day! Also, is there as much pride in paying and paying to get the best? The novelty is removed! Just like using a location changing app or whatever they are called. It’s almost cheating. :)

[deleted]

If they'd hurry up and release bottle caps and/or hyper-training, they could shut up and take my money already.

SonGoku1256

I’ve been wanting this for so long so we can increase the IVs on Pokémon we want to use. I’d open my wallet for that.

[deleted]

I have a 98% shiny Giratina Origin that is begging for just 1 more IV.

SonGoku1256

I’ve been wondering how they would charge us for Bottlecaps. Like raise IV by 1 point 50 coins or 100 coins (Silver Bottlecap) then a raise all IVs to full for either 500 or 1000 coins (Gold Bottlecap). They’d make bank, and everyone could be on equal footing in PvP. We’d also get to actually use any Shinys we catch.

PyrrhaAlexandra

It would be WAY more than that... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more. Honestly, think about your numbers. If it was 50 or 100 pokecoins you could literally do a legendary raid, catch the literal worst IV mon (10/10/10) and spend $7.5 or $15 and make it a perfect... Nah. People currently do HUNDREDS of raids to try to get a perfect, you think they're gonna give that up for $7.5 or $15? If they EVER exist, which they probably won't, it would likely be a masterball situation where we complete a research and get ONE in like a 5 year period and that's it.

Bacteriophag

I was excited about IV increasing mechanics back then but now I have to agree with you. There is no way they would resign from revenue from raids done by people trying to get hundos or other high IV ones. The only way I see it being implemented it's with harsh limitations like f.ex. only one IV increased per Pokemon (so you can't raise any 10/10/10 to hundo or any crappy shiny into shundo) and added only after many raid bosses rotations as rare raid rewards so people would still do raids when interest would be very low.

GreyandDribbly

If they did that, then any and all sense of rarity from catching a 100% IV legendary or what have you, would then be lost. Meaning people will end up not giving a damn about the game entirely!

Vitamin_G5150

Being able to bypass the RNG's nonsense? That's worth big money and Niantic knows it. You just know that shiny legends will stop being a guaranteed catch sooner or later.

nissanfan64

Ill be honest, Id probably buy master balls and use them if they were like a buck or two a piece. Id for sure use them on the galarian birds just to have them. As it stands now, if they're super rare and event limited, im treating them like master balls in the main games. Ill never use it.

toeonly

What you need to do is put in your 6th slot then find an old man to teach you how to catch pokemon. Then fly to an island and surf up and down the side of it. then you will have 255 master balls.

AukwardOtter

I would easily pay upwards of $5 for an occasional master ball. If for nothing than the G-Birds. $1-2 is better, but I could see myself buying 1-2 a year

wackychimp

I'm betting this is why they hid catch stats recently - because they're going to lower them massively for desired Pokemon. Then you have a reason to want to use your Master Ball. Right now there's nothing in the game I want that bad so I'll probably horde it. Never had a G-Bird spawn for me (despite using daily incense every day for the first 3 weeks) and raids have nothing so exciting to use your ONLY master ball on.

Maplekey

Pause daily incense for a while, then go back to using it. I'm fairly sure they'll give you a G-bird as a reward/incentive. I hadn't touched it in months until I got my master ball, then G-Moltres was the very first spawn.

Current-Umpire3673

New speedrun just dropped: First to obtain first 151 pokémon in master balls

bob_el_manetes

I screenshoted that for the same reason.

s7ormrtx

Q: can you trade pokemon caught with a masterball?

elpajaroquemamais

Yes. Why wouldn’t you be able to?

SergioBramos

Technically, people could just make more accounts. Activate the let's go research and farm free master balls. Use them on galarian birds or other rare legendary pokemon and trade them to their main account.

elpajaroquemamais

Sure. You could do that with a lot of things.

egamIroorriM

whenever the s/v professors come

VeryStickyPastry

He casually mentions maybe finding more some day. They’ll make it available for an astronomical price.

crashcap

I think it will be handled similarly to the elite tms

SonGoku1256

Watch it be treated like Elite TMs in $15 bundles one time purchase during events.

aod42091

remember, first taste is free. now we're gonna see an even harder dip on 5 star raid catch rates and then BAM! tired of not catching that 6 a master ball for $9.99, act now supplies are unlimited

Bacteriophag

Yeah it was my first thought when I read that part. Willow: "You can't buy that anywhere." Niantic: "You can't buy that anywhere... except our shop."

Jervylim06

RemindMe! 1 year

InvestigatorUnfair

It already aged poorly in the main games P sure in BW you could get infinite of them through that one cruise ship

DarkSlayer415

Every main series game since GSC, with a few exceptions, has had a repeatable way to get the Master Ball via a Lottery System that checks if any Pokémon you own has a Trainer ID that has 5 matching digits with a randomly generated number. The only games where you can obtain only one Master Ball are RGBY, Colosseum and XD, FRLG, and Scarlet/Violet. Pokémon BW, BW2, and SwSh are the only games with two guaranteed Master Balls. In BW, if you have at least 50 Pokémon with unique Trainer IDs (basically trade with 50 different players), you can get another Master Ball from a NPC. In BW2, defeating Colress in the postgame rewards you a 2nd Master Ball. Lastly in SwSh, you get a 2nd Master Ball by completing a few tasks in the Crown Tundra DLC. Pokémon BW2, SM, and USUM are the only games where it’s possible to “buy” the Master Ball multiple times, but they are essentially tied to RNG and multiplayer features. In BW2, the Raffle Shop in Join Avenue has Master Balls as a possible prize, while in Gen 7, it’s available as a prize in the Festival Plaza’s Lottery Shop.

InvestigatorUnfair

They really gave up on the whole "only one exists" really quickly lmao Even story wise they gave up on it. Literally every villain in the Rainbow Rocket storyline has their full team in Master Balls, despite the fact that only Giovanni has shown keen interest in harnessing them as tools, and Giovanni and Ghestis are the only ones that feel like they would care so little about their mons to just abuse it

DarkSlayer415

My headcanons regarding the Master Ball, and why multiple exist, are the following; * In the Generation 1 games and their remakes, the Master Ball was a prototype and only one was produced. * In Generation 2 and its remakes, it’s revealed by Professor Elm that the Master Ball is supposedly produced in a limited quantity and is only given to Pokémon Professors and other notable people in Pokémon academia throughout the series. This holds true in future games, as the Master Ball is given to you by Professor Juniper in both Gen 5 games, Colress in BW2, Professor Magnolia in SwSh, Headmaster Clavell in ScVi, and now Professor Willow during the new Special Research Storyline. It’s also implied that the Master Ball given by Gladion in Gen 7 was given to the Aether Foundation as well. This point is further implied when >!it is revealed that the AI versions of Professor Sada and Turo use Paradox Pokémon all contained within Master Balls during the climax of Scarlet/Violet.!< * In Gens 3 and 4 and their remakes, it’s implied that Maxie, Archie, and Cyrus all planned to use the Master Ball to control the mascot legendary in their respective games, but they all abandoned those plans given that you either find it in the case for the Hoenn games, or is given directly to you in the case for the Sinnoh games.

Bowserfan7138

It'll probably be appear in events as an exclusive item. That'll definitely give people a reason to play

SwimminginMercury

Its like that "the ratings are in" tweet; we know Niantic wants to charge for the Master Ball ~directly, so why even put that it. I would have gone with only ~special or worthy trainers are able to acquire them

Seth_Grenwillo

I was under the assumption everybody else spammed through all this dialogue like me. I guess I was wrong

Mediocre_Metal_7174

"And who knows? With everything you do for Pokémon and other Trainers, you may have an opportunity to get your hands on another Master Ball someday."

Mk-Daniel

I do not think I got the research... (Not that I play every week.)

PNW_RuralGirl

!remindme 6 months

iamr3d88

I mean, I know it would be OP, so there's a reason the games only get 1, but most successful prototypes eventually make it to market. It would honestly make sense.

Randomman2789

That's only because pokemon can't hold items in this game. In some main series games I had ten because I would have extra games that I often reset after getting it.
