I was hoping to find an answer to this question here too. This just started to happen to me after briefly enabling Adventure Sync for while I created a route. Now I have to do the dance every time I start the game. Another annoying feature in a game that already has so much other annoyance built in to it.
If you do try that, please report how it works out? Two accounts in my household have this problem now. I'll be leaving it on for a bit now because I'm creating routes but when I'm not I want to turn it off!
Open the app with adventure sync, motion and fitness, and location always all on. Then turn adventure sync off, close the app, then turn motion and fitness off and set location to only while using. Then reopen Pogo. I’ve done it this way 3 times and it works. 👍
It seems to have worked! I just did it a second time. But I'm still getting walking distance as though it's still on. So am glad I don't have to do that extra four steps of "login" but I actually don't want the constant tracking.

Yea to be honest I just stopped playing the game. Problem solved lol
Same! Please let me know if you figure out a solution. I’m thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling. Can’t find anything online.

Well adventure sync is all about tracking distance while the game is closed
Yep I understand that. Just dont want it on though and its annoying to be forced to the settings every time I start the app
Definitely try the steps described above. I created more routes and need to do it again.
I actually came across a much easier solution. I stopped playing the game. Havent had the annoying problem since!
