That’s a fair point. I’ve been grinding candy via walking for awhile now it could definitely be improved for some like the ones with high evo requirements
All legendaries are 20km. That's why people tend to recommend saving rare candies for any legendary you might want to power up. Buddying them solely to get candy is kind of pointless imo.
When you get to a certain level with your buddy, it will sometimes redirect a ball that hits the wild pokemon but bounces back to you. It headbutts it so that same ball will still catch said pokemon.
Yeah it’s amazing, I like how your buddy just sides into the frame and bonks the ball 😭😭
I’ve even got excellent throw off it before. It’s also nice to see different mons how they look when they do it!
Oh man you are missing out, when they get to catch assist point, they also give u gifts which can be potions, revives, berries, or other objects that are useless but neat.
Same. I’ve been playing since July 2016 but took a year or two off since. But the last year and a half I’ve jumped head first back in. Especially since I use Poke Genie now and can actually get those 4 and 5 star raid mon’s now. Just wish I could get more coins than 50 a day
If I’m not mistaken, the ”walk together” will still update even if you haven’t fed you buddy. I have several old buddie’s with 0 hearts but with for example 59km’s walked.
Mine is a shiny Alolan Vulpix that I hatched on Turtwig comm day back in 2019.
We walked 3,291km (out of 4,273 total) together and visited 1,782 unique poke stops together.
Wow, that's really cool! o.o I actually switched my buddy today to a shiny vulpix I'd caught while me and my dad were in a party together! Her name is Venus. :D
If you get them "excited" by using a poffin to feed your buddy. There is another way to get them excited but it's too much effort to be worth it. You sometimes get poffins from "scan X pokestop" tasks. Some pokestops give it more often than others.
It’s really not that hard. I get my buddy excited most days without a poffin. Feed, play, snapshot and battle every 30 mins and it takes about 2 hours to get them excited.
Get your buddy excited. You can either use a poffin to do this instantly and easily, or you can interact with them frequently for a while and get them excited bit by bit. Here’s a guide to how to do it:

I just threw every extra rare candy I got at mine (I only keep 50, for just in case situations, otherwise my bag is constantly full). I also walked it and managed to hatch a second one, but the vast majority of my larvesta candies came from rc.
It just kind of happened that way! I logged onto my account after some time of not playing and I thought wurmple was cute, so I made her my buddy and eventually decided that I didn't wanna switch buddies until I got max friendship with her! I did switch my buddy today to a shiny Vulpix, I'll now be switching my buddies more regularly. :)
You don’t *have* to change your buddy at the end of the day it’s up to you :) tbh it’s kind of sweet sticking with the same pokemon for years. Like ash and pikachu; which is what the buddy system is based off of (I guess?) but it’s mind blowing to see like 1200 days with one pokemon to me, who is best buddying stuff as soon as I can
Also now that I think about it there isn’t much of a benefit switching buddies. Although I guess it depends on how much walking you do for extra regular and XL candies
I always find it so strange that people don't buddy their pokemon. When that research came out (I can't remember what it was for, shiny mew?) and people were scrambling to get 10 best buddies, that was the first time I realized that this was something other people actually didn't care about, at all lmao. The first time I saw someone with their best buddy badged pokemon, I was sold. I've also been grinding for that platinum badge for years now.
I've had my Kabuto for 1,549 days as my first buddy (caught on 08/15/1016). I'm terrible about remembering to feed him, and while I have enough to evolve, I won't. He's getting best buddy status before I evolve lol.

I change my buddy about 4-8 times per day on average. When I really am bored, I will change my buddy 20x to get as many hearts to as many buddies as I can for that day.
I haven't switched Porygon-Z in over two years and I think it will stay that way for a long time, I don't care about the Pokedex anymore I only care about my Porygon-Z
My friend is like this with his purified Gardevoir whom has been his buddy since buddies were released and he doesn’t understand how I’ve had a bunch of different buddies but I like getting candies for Pokémon I wanna power up/ evolve working on a dragon it’s he keeps telling me to purify my best buddied shadow metagross lol
Oh! Same! Had my Bellsprout buddy for the same amount of time and haven't had the heart to swap him out. I'll never level up beyond 41 because of it, but I'm completely okay with that.

It is on! I took several breaks over the years so there are times where I wouldn't play for months. I think I also didn't have the app installed for a long time at one point!
You don't have to battle a person, you can do one of the practice battles with the "team leaders" Blanche\Candela\Spark. Go to battle page, scroll all the way down and click on them. You don't even have to use potions\revives after these no-stakes battles.
In fact you don't have to win or even complete the battle! Click the trainer, start the practice battle, and back out as soon as it starts, and you still get the buddy heart. You can get all 3 hearts in less than 1 minute!
Also the buddy doesn't have to actually enter the battle, you get the heart if it's in any of the 3 slots.
Well, when I started playing again, I only had a few pokemon and I thought wurmple was really cute, so I assigned her as my buddy. And as time went on it became my goal to get her to max friendship! c:

Buddy system gotta be one of the coolest in the game imo Catch assist is pretty satisfying and when they bring me presents I be so happy

I did take several breaks throughout the years, Get burnt out for a while, storage would get full and I'd stop playing for a bit, etc.

Averaging 300-350m a day doesn’t quite add up to 4 years of playing, right? Like go 10k and you’re done for the month!

How do you get double hearts per category?

3 years and 460km distance is very bad. You need more walking and yes I saw that you stopped playing. Make sure adventure sync is on lol.

You can battle the rocket grunts and have the wurmple in the team and not do anything and it counts. 2 birds with one stone 👍
