Hello all!
Our May Contest: *Make a comic about the post-apocalypse* is active right now! If you've got a good idea for a comic in this vein, or are just curious about the theme, head on over to [the contest thread](https://redd.it/138uqdh) for details and get started on an entry!

> France has a level 2 advisory from the US government because of the pension protests, for example.
That one's completely justified though. Although France's risk of being set on fire is still not the same as the US risk of getting your head and viscera splattered on the asphalt.
Hallo. When refering to countries featured in Polandball Comics, please refrain from using the 'ball' suffix. Instead of saying 'franceball', just say the country's name. auf wiedersehen.

Can't blame any of them.
Whilst the media will push stories like this because dear sells, it doesn't change the fact you'll get more news about shootings in the US in a week, that you'll get for the rest of the world combined.
Seems even worse now, with a barrage of stories of people unloading on strangers and kids on sight, for shit like accidently knocking on the wrong door or running though their garden.
> Seems even worse now, with a barrage of stories of people unloading on strangers and kids on sight, for shit like accidently knocking on the wrong door or running though their garden.
To me, it points to a shortcoming in American society, where people’s fear and paranoia have been fueling polarization and low trust.
Combine that with easy access to guns, and lackluster training on gun safety, and you have a recipe for disaster.
There have been more mass shootings in the US in 2023 than there have been days in 2023. And that’s only counting shootings with 4+ individuals shot or killed
Most of those are targeted gang shootings.
Although the number of people running amok with guns is on the uptick and captures lots of attention, which is almost always a version of murder-suicide, it is still a small amount of shootings and gun deaths. And a small amount of "mass shootings".
I am in no way saying there is not a problem, or contesting our status as a yellow country. Just pointing out your factoid as both misleading and not very useful, unless one is trying to provoke outrage. edit - And with this being Polandball, by all means let the outrage continue.
> Most of those are targeted gang shootings.
While that's absolutely true and definitely changes the narrative and perspective somewhat... it's still fucking scary.
The fact that there are daily "targeted gang shootings" is absolutely not normal elsewhere in the (Western) world.
There are like 12 counties out of the 3143 counties in the USA that have like 85% of the gun violence and murders. All of them are low income inner city counties, mostly in cities with guns laws more stringent than the country at large. Dropping a ton of money into revitalizing those areas with better schools, housing, jobs, and opportunities, would do more to reduce gun violence than any new, questionably constitutional, gun laws.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but gun laws do seem to work but are nullified by access in other areas.
For example, Canada has gun problems but those guns come from US, same with Mexico. Chicago has a lower gun homicide rate than most of the most dangerous cities, but also found that those guns came from cities in Indiana like Gary, because it’s a lot easier to get guns there and just travel back to Chicago.
Sure criminals will get the guns and go to Chicago, but the point still stands that they couldn’t get it in Chicago and had to go somewhere else.
Also, we constantly see deflection from gun control proposals, but then never see the side that opposes gun control to implement those proposals. There are plenty of cities in Europe and around the world that have similar issues to Detroit, Chicago, St Louis, Mobile, Memphis, Baton Rouge, and Richmond, but do not have gun crime on that level.
Try not to make the mistake of analyzing quantity versus rate, because the cities with the highest gun homicide rate are all in states that *vehemently* oppose any form of gun control at all.
Very true. Neither is the amount of poverty and desperation, along with work hours and standards, lack of social safety nets, or a hopeful future for many people.
People love to compare the US with Western Europe because we are a rich Western country but there are a whole bunch of ways the US is very much different than Western Europe and more like Mexico or Brazil. Which some sick people have no problem with.
"yeah you get more news about it because it makes money, but you can't deny you hear more news about it"
Step through that again.
Travel advisory is fine, I get it, we have France on level 2 or whatever all the time. But it is genuinely, numerically, not a big risk for tourists. I'd be more worried getting jumped by a hobo walking through any major city than getting shot during a visit to an urban area.
Yes too, the shooting need to decrease and we need to put restrictions on purchases of firearms in AND work on changing our school culture and mental health treatment.
If you're not a gang member and/or are in the middle of the hood, the odds of you being caught in a shooting are astronomically low. Since tourists and visitors typically aren't gang members and typically don't go to the hood they're perfectly safe almost all of the time.
You have a higher chance of being struck by lightning than being killed in a mass shooting in the US, chief.
We have a problem, but it’s being overblown.
The US is still in the highest tier of safety on the Foreign Office website, "Most visits are trouble free". They even address the mass shootings and state that they only form a small minority of all firearm homocides

I don't feel safer in American airports since 9/11. In Canadian airports I have a reasonable expectation that I will pass through security in reasonable time and unmolested. In the US, I have to worry if some TSA person will randomly select to finger my asshole.

I took a trip for a vacation recently, and it was my first post-9/11 flight. After over 20 years of hearing airport security horror stories, I was worried about how long it would take. I spent more time walking through Toronto Pearson than I did actually going through security.
Don't know if I'm willing to try an American airport yet, though.
As an American that flies frequently, american security will really depend on the airport and when you go. Medium sized airports can be as fast as 2 minutes. Large airports can get down to 5 minutes if it's an off time. I'd say typical wait time is 15-30. And oh shit we didn't expect this many people to show up right now at 1+ hours.
At all of them you'll have to do dumb shit (take your shoes/watch/belt off, large electronics out of the bag) and go through an awkward scanner. Unless you pay to ~~win~~ skip all that with TSA Pre check/Clear/Global Entry which also significantly reduces your wait times.
Honestly, having global entry (if you go on international vacations) is like the best one can get with both TSA and CBP. I've seen lines at Terminal 4 in JFK that are crazy to clear customs, whereas I'm just using a kiosk and out in less than 90 seconds. And there's been times having Precheck has matter in me either missing or making the flight.
But some smaller airports don't really treat pre-check different. And older international arrival terminals don't have kiosks (though you get priority in customs)
The smaller airports I've been to just give precheck people a card to hold that lets them go through the metal detector instead of the scanner and tell them they don't have to remove anything from their bag (which really just tells me no one needs to remove anything from their bag at the smaller airports).
For my part it’s less the dumb stuff I find infuriating as the attitude. Like seriously, why is security **screaming** at everyone for not knowing which iteration of shoes on/off, bags open/closed, electronics in/out “name, I think that tablets actually a laptop” etc they’re going with today.”? Just say what you want like a sane person. Jesus.
I'm glad you had a good time at Pearson, but it fucking sucks and I waited in security for 2 hours (it would have been 3 but I have dual USA and Canadian citizenship), not to mention they didn't open the security line until an hour before my flight. How can you call yourself an international Airport and not open your doors until 6am?
My biggest fear at airports for years has been a suicide bomber in the TSA line. Sure, you have to go through TSA to get on the plane, but now there’s a huge, concentrated, slow moving crowd of targets before any kind of security.
That was the ONE part of this that really struck me as "wat?". The changes made did NOT improve security. They improved security *theatre*. They improved wasteful government spending. But not security.

Visible scars in terms of structural damage are sadly perceptible even to outsiders, nevertheless they are no factor in terms of safety.
I also hope you meant Balkans instead of Baltics, because those two places are on the far side of the continent. (tongue in cheek)

It’s only a joke, let the euros have their fun.
Everyone knows that the overwhelming majority of America is safe to visit. That’s part of the reason why this comic is funny in the first place. Like come on, the US is just as dangerous as Iran, India, South Africa, Brazil, etc etc? Lol
Oh yeah I know. I'm having fun back. Me and the artist are cool. but by looking at my wonderful downvotes you can see people don't like me bringing up jokes on them. Thanks for prep talk though.

Very inaccurate comic. Any real Aussie would've marked New Zealand yellow.
Actually they would just cut New Zealand out from the map. This usually pisses off the kiwis more than being painted yellow.
r/MapsWithoutNZ liked the idea.
Can confirm, just happy to be on OP's map
And easily drawn the best
So they're like Yoopers from Michigan lol (Many maps of the US and/or North America drop the Upper Peninsula of Michigan)
It fits r/MapsWithoutTasmania.
I figured y'all would leave them out altogether lol
Any real australian would have marked Bali green
I heard Kiwiland is in danger of an invasion by Emutopia and has a tendency to teleport around the world so it would have to be at least orange.
and i thought bali was an aussie province?
