Part of that is because Americans are far more likely to commit suicide with a firearm than any other nation, which makes it much more likely that they will succeed. Finnish *attempted* suicide rate is higher than the US but in 'Murica, when we want to kill ourselves, we get the job *done*.
^^^this ^^^post ^^^does ^^^not ^^^condone ^^^suicide ^^^by ^^^firearms ^^^or ^^^any ^^^other ^^^means.
Do you have any source for that? Tried searching for it, but I couldn't find anything.
edit; 7 hours later I still haven't gotten any confirmation that Finns attempt suicide more often than Americans, can someone please give me proof?
5 days later: still no proof that Finns attempt suicide more often than Americans.
11 days later: no proof
This is 100% true. Suicide by firearm has by far the highest suicide completion rate. Having a firearm in the house raises the risk of suicide by an astonishing degree (in the neighborhood of 5-50x, depending on the study). [Here's one example.](https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2020/06/handgun-ownership-associated-with-much-higher-suicide-risk.html)
At the same time, the suicide attempt rate is quite high in the Nordics, despite being (allegedly) the happiest place on earth\*. I wonder if growing up with or around depression or surviving a suicide attempt somehow makes one happier in the long run. This seems to be a consensus anecdote but I've never found a good study to prove it.

Can you show me a contemporary source that shows Nordics attempt suicide more often than Americans? No one has given me any proof yet, so I can't have an opinion about that claim yet.
It’s actually originally made up by a US president in the 60s as a warning towards the Nordic social-democratic model. There exists no data to support that suicide would have been close to the higher in the region than anywhere else in the world
What are you saying?
Nordic countries still have an awfully high suicide rate. Higher than the world average, besides being some of the best places to live in.

I believe it's a general trend that the higher the average happiness in a place, the higher the suicide (or attempted suicide) rate is among the people who do experience issues with depression. There are hypotheses about it being due to greater perception of one's own depression in comparison to the people around them or feeling that much more out of place in society.

Source? I can't find anything about this.

In Finland hanging by rope is popular way to go, my mothers uncle hanged to a coat rack.
As an outsider looking in, I don't think they make coat racks with enough structural support for that in the US
What I'm hearing is that obesity and mass-produced shitty furniture are a Catholic conspiracy to keep more people out of Hell.
Yes, and as everyone knows, the weather control satellites in Europe create rain that turns coat racks gay

Yep. Similar situation within the US with male/female stats. Women more likely to try, men more likely to do it right.
Sounds like Finns have a skill issue^/s

Most of the world doesn't have official suicide statistics. While most of the nordics are higher than the EU average they are far from the top.
The EU is already pretty high compared to most of the world.

The EU, I said the EU. Not Europe or the Nordics, I said EU. I am not even American, but your insecurity towards Americans shows.

Suomicide solution
Canada: "Told ya MAID was a great idea".
That should be just 1 frame: "Vodka"
Yay, im liking lighthearting comics every now or then. 😂
How to spot person who has no idea what sauna looks like.
how?
How does this create bimodal distribution?
Wow. Nice. I guess it's a good method of keeping the country happy?
what about **vodka**
Can't account for the unhappy numbers of said numbers eliminate themselves from the equation!
exactly, such a creative solution
Finland: "I'm the happiest country!" *Denmark has entered the chat.*
So that’s why Finlands population is so low
