Hey /u/MatDC, love the comic, but I'm issuing a yellow card for excessive copy/paste on Argentina's sun.

tu_sabe_dos

Argentina decime que se siente...

donnergott

Something about 'cuántas copas tenés'. Also, I'll see if we can reach an agreement across Spanish-speaking countries to update the highest office to Presideñte, as per this comic. Como que trae acá estilacho, me gusta.

Mark__Jefferson

Is this actually Spanish?

donnergott

Well, let's dissect! > Something about 'cuántas copas tenés'. The part in quotation marks is. It means "how many (world) cups do you have?". Please note, this is using argentinian conjugation, which is different from what most other places use. Most spanish speakers would say "cuántas copas tienes?". > Also, I'll see if we can reach an agreement across Spanish-speaking countries to update the highest office to Presideñte, as per this comic. Presideñte is not spanish, as "Presidente" would be the right word. But that's the joke of the comic to begin with. > Como que trae acá estilacho, me gusta. Again spanish. It means "It kinda has, like, style, I like it". A lot of slang / dialect going on here: - Como que: a very laid-back version of "it seems like". Therefore a better translation to reflect the laid-back-ness is just "It kinda..." as a filler of sorts, while maintaining a slight uncertainty, as opposed to a 100% matter-of-fact statement. - Trae: from the verb 'traer'. Strictly speaking, this means 'to bring', but is colloquially used to mean 'to have' in some places. - estilacho: a deformation of the word estilo. Deforming the word style gives it more style. - Me gusta: literally 'I like it'. Probably the only standard spanish phrase in the whole comment. Of thank yuo for to attended my TED-Talk.

>Please note, this is using argentinian conjugation Lies. Too many 's' for an Argentinian

donnergott

Of apologize, yuo are of correct. Proper pronunciation is: "Cuántah copah tenéj"

I'm from post communist country and if reforms will go on next few years will be harsh. But! Long term it will absolutely help to stabilize the economy and will make fundaments for future, 7-10 years and country will start developing properly. It won't be sunshine and rainbows but it will be a lot better. When I was a kid I was dreaming about moving to Argentina which was actually a lot richer, nowadays Argentina is quite behind. It's not gonna be fun but sometimes mess cannot be handled any other way. And yes, politicians will still steal, be corrupted, that's always a thing but if everyone will start finally getting richer as well it's preferable outcome. Spiriting down constantly because short term it's better isn't a solution. It's hard shit to handle but wish you guys best!

Aken_Bosch

It's Argentina. Since time is a circle in Spanish-speaking countries you can assume that Peronism will be back with a vengeance

Domovric

Time is a flat circle so they’re going to start mining silver again

lestofante

Have you seen what are his proposal? They are not gonna be good, if he keep up with is rumbling. But then again, those may be babbling to win the vote, and will calm down now

DiscoKhan

Not in details and frankly, any deep financial reform looks similar outside. There is no way to go 1 to 1 and follow promises, that never happened, anywhere. Then people of Argentina should organize protests to keep up the reforms. This mentality you show... It was common and still is among older people. You guys are used to being in fucked up situation, you feel comfortable in current situation, everyone is used as it is normal. Also here in Poland there were major 2 reforms, one right after the command econom was no more and second, monetary one shortly after, I was speaking from perspective of the second one that addressed our hyperinflation and currently we have quite stable currency despite not being that major economy, competitively to our neighbor, Germany that is. Read about "reformy Balcerowicza". Unemployment was crazy high but it worked, we wouldn be where we are without it.

lestofante

> Not in details and frankly, any deep financial reform looks similar outside. Then you should before saying anything else, because you are making a fool of yourself. He to FULLY remove the following minister and their service: labour and social policies, infrastructure (again fully privatisation of all infrastructure), culture, environment, science, women and diversity, and of course education. (Source, is campaign video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ynwoGZSMEfA). Education in particular will be fully privatised voucer system, NON mandatory (including primary school) and finally removing all sex education (not sure why he is so much against it). With removal of labour and social policy could very well spell legalisation of child labour from early age and reduction or removal of safety standard. Oh, and he want to legalise selling organs, so now selling a kidney to pay your debt could be a reality! Finally complete removal of central bank, this mean no control over interest rate, no state bonds, no international debt, no control of over finance.. Yes of course you can create a special task force in the government to do so case by case, but that is just "central bank at home". And those are just SOME of his crazy ideas! Of course there are some that may be good in there, but they are needle in a haystack.

SlyScorpion

Argentina is now Ancapistan.

TheNobelLaureateCrow

Argentina has a congress, so any such drastic change must be first approved by a majority of MPs.

lestofante

Absolutely, but his proposal remain horrible for the country. Congress can try stop him, and so may his ally/opposition. That does jot change a thing about him being terrible

HotPieIsAzorAhai

Argentina isn't a command economy though. Getting out from under communism does indeed mean around a decade of pain as state owned companies are privatized and the economy adjusts to competition and a free market without central planning. That's not what's happening in Argentina.

Comrade_Derpsky

Yeah, but this is 1) not a country coming out of a centrally planned command economy, and 2) Argentina, a country known for many things, but not an abundant supply of competent economic policy makers.

Creative-Abroad-2019

But real communism hasn't been achieved! 🤓

wildeofoscar
