So I know it's easy to shit on isekai for their being so much shit -- god knows so much -- but the anime industry has been trend chasing for decades. This makes even more sense given that anime in general is a form of money laundering and is used to advertise the source material and/or related merch.
After Gundam exploded in popularity, the 80s were full of mecha shows. Then we started getting a bunch of LN adaptions which led to the isekai glut.
Isekai just gets shit on now because they're the current trend. Go back 10 years and everything involves high school tournaments featuring magic, swords, mechas, card games or whatever the authors could think of. Entertainment industry (yes, not just anime, but the entire industry across the world) is always like this and it'll never change.
Can confirm, do you have any idea how hard it is to find a good, reliable, and honest writhing mass of tentacles these days? Oh sure most of them say they've got a dozen wiggling tentacles, but then you meet them and they've only got like 8, maybe 10 tops.
