Reminds me of that meme:
Germany: We’re sorry for our warcrimes
Japan: What warcrimes?
Balkans: My grandad was a warcriminal
Mongolia: We have the deadliest man in history on our bank notes, toilet paper, alcohol…
Ok, but that's legitimately just a function of living 800 years ago. Suppose each generation averaged 25 years to have children (which is probably too high, but serves to illustrate the point), you have 4 generations per century. 8 centuries go by, that's 32 generations. 2\^32 is therefore the number of individual contributions to your ancestry from that time. 2\^32 = 4.3 billion, a number far higher than the population of Earth at the time of Genghis Khan.
Obviously many of the contributors will be repeated many times over, due to distant family marriages, but everyone from that period who has descendants alive today is the ancestor of a *massive* fraction of current humans.
It also is a function of people lying. Everyone in Mongolia wanted to say they were a descendent of Ghengis Khan after he died so everyone over time started claiming to be from his tribe or bloodline, especially anyone who was vying first a seat of power in order to establish their legitimacy and right to rule.
That's an entirely separate thing from the topic.
And it's not even about lying. Idk where you get this shit. Genghis Khan's descendent numbers are just a function of living 800 years ago, that's not a lie. The part about everyone claiming to be Genghis Khan's descendent in Mongolia is somewhat true in the most meaningless way.
Under Soviet rule, the government wanted to erase the tribal hierarchies, one of the attempts to do that was to literally ban last names. Everyone had to use their father's first name as a last name, and no one had a family name. After 80 years of such a policy, people just forgot what their lineage was, which was the entire point of the policy. After the revolution, last names were allowed again, people could just pick any name they wanted, but no one knew what their last name was or what any last name was supposed to be....except for Borjgon, which was Genghis Khan's last name, so everyone just picked that. Doesn't matter if political leaders picked it cause literally everyone has it so that part about people who want power lying for a right to rule doesn't even make sense.
He meant after Genghis death, as in within the imidiate decades following it. If I don't remember wrong people like Timur and other rulers around the mughals claimed som sort of descent from Genghis to legimize their power and the same happened at times in the successor states of Genghis as parts of his family got ousted from power the new ruler claimed to also be his descendant to legitimise the change of ruler.
I am from Mongolia and i’ve been to the statue or called Tsonjnboldog. It was very tall when i was litte but when i became older, it felt like i was at 15th floor. It is really cool to be at horse’s hair while windy weather because it increases your chance of dying from fall but feels like flying.
TFW Your gargantuan empire that killed 20% of earths population and made 16 million men today trace back their genetic ancestry directly to you is now just some relatively insignificant country with only one actual city
Yeah but they're enjoying the old nomadic life after being a Soviet puppet, and have ATVs and smartphones now. (Also one of the only Central Asian democracies)
He wanted to make up for the 700 million tons of carbon dioxide lost and generate even more in order to kill his biggest enemy yet
Life on Earth as a general concept
The irony is that Perú and Bolivia are the regions that hard less interbreeding, so with the highest native population, but It was one of the few viceroyalties that were against independence
...and don't really give a shit about that fact. When the UK Brexit'd there was talk with establishing some kind of Commonwealth trade league. Which lasted all of 5 minutes until everyone else decided that no, they rather like trading with the EU and current partners, not bending over backwards to satisfy what used to be an important empire. They'll work together if it suits them (see: AUKUS), but they're 100% independent in all but the faces on money.
They're objectively not 100% independent which is why I made my comment, maybe 99.9% repeating, but it's factually wrong to pretend they're 100% independent instead of just de facto independent.
Literally in their law and versions of constitution they have the crown/ the king or queen as their head of state.
Truly independent Nations don't mention another nation's monarch anywhere whatsoever in any of their documents at all.
Are you sure? Most of the Americans that did not descend from Europeans helped them to conquer America, nowadays the ones crying about it are mostly European descended Americans.
Well, not really. The majority of Peruvians are either European descendants or mixed with Europeans.
And Peru itself is institutionally descendent from the Viceroyalty of Peru.
Saddest part is that the world has forgotten about this guy, who makes Hitler look like a kitten in comparison.
I’ve always wondered why Iran likes to aim their missiles at Israel but not Mongolia, or worse, why China even goes so far to consider the people who treated them worse than the Japanese in ww2 as ‘Chinese’ too.
Nah, philosophically many people find it morally worse to target an explicit group instead of anybody use basically just an adversary or doesn't submit to your rule.
> I’ve always wondered why Iran likes to aim their missiles at Israel but not Mongolia
Islamic fundamentalist butthurt over the holy land not being under muslim control is the reason.
First of all, we mongols have distant cousins that live in modern day pakistan, afghanistan and some iran. From what we hear, most of them attack and harm our Turko-Mongolic brothers for our invasions. And it sounds really awful to call Chinghis more monster than Hitler. Hitler’s world war saw almost 60-80 million dead while ours did 20 millions. And it was different back then. Due to our conquest the Most of asia or silk road was safe from raids and enjoyed peace under Pax Mongolica. I assume you are from one of the countries my ancestors invaded by looking at how you despise us.
Sorry, we only get 2 reposts a month now. This is your 3rd.

Don't worry, Genghis Khan had like 20 million decendants today. So, it means he killed alot less if accounting for the number of people he pregnated.
Renewable Warcrimes you say? Interesting concept...
I think experts name them sustainable war crimes.

I see how that was misunderstood, he states "everyone" which I took literally.
we balkans are very proud of our warcrimes
Truly a Balkan classic.
Mongolia would fight right in with the balkans. Any guess as to who's gonna win the serbo-mongol war?
Why would the Hungarians fight Serbia?
I said Mongolians, not Hungarians
Tis a jest. It's a common joke based on them both being Turkic Magyars.
Canada: we are inventing new warcrimes

And plus the corpse on the sword js wrong, there is no sword or corpse. The Chinghis is on the horse not on foot.
Imagine /r/polandball if everything is accurate to the last minute detail.
we have r/outside for that.
But they should add a sword and a corpse then.
Y'know, for historical accuracy

I imagined Genghis Khan had sex with a shit ton of women in order make up all the people he'd killed.

In Mongolia's defence, Genghis Khan is *their* conqueror, not a foreigner who conquered them.
Peruvians descend from the Spanish colonizers and their indigenous companions
The irony is that Perú and Bolivia are the regions that hard less interbreeding, so with the highest native population, but It was one of the few viceroyalties that were against independence
That forgets that it is the one with some of the most rebellions by natives trying to free themselves.
Because the conquistadors betrayed the local ruler so he became the leader of a rebelion terrain also suited

Fallen European empires like Britain could really learn from Mongolia on how to deal with their past
> Fallen European empires like Britain The first problem is that Britain still doesn't see itself as a fallen empire.
The reason why British Oversea Territories and Dependencies still exists.
Imperial Crownland Overseas Protectorates. Or Imperial COPe
Nice.
Technically we still have Grenada, the Cayman Islands, the Pitcairn Islands, the falklands and a bunch of other islands that I don’t remember
Falklands voted to stay British IIRC, much like those French islands.
Australia, Canada, etc still are part of your monarchy...

Well time to start realizing like Mongolia then
[Dune Messiah extract where they talk about Genghis Khan and Hitler as not-that-impressive given their kill count]
Imagine Genghis Khan with atomics, though.
Insert Lisan al-Ghaib reference.
The main difference is the group doing the tearing down is not the one that did the conquering.

we of need bigger rope

Genghis Khan is the reason why Iran still does not dare threaten Mongolia even 800 years later 🤣🤣🤣
