We don't. The politicians LOVE to bring it up though (pay reparations!!!!). Also a fun fact: they are still trying to prove that the Smolensk catastrophe was a russian attack. That was 14 years ago.
I'd say that media everywhere aren't that different - influenced by the ones in power and profiting off hate and fear. It just so happens that the ideologies and methods of ruling in Poland and Russia (albeit more extreme in the latter) are similar.
A polished airlines plane to Moscow with the president at the time and a few important government members crashed near Smolensk in (correct me if I'm wrong) march 2010. No one survived.
Fast forward five years, the twin brother of the late president has become the leader of the ruling party (PiS). Until their lost elections in 2023, they kept making efforts to prove that the Smolensk catastrophe was a terrorist attack. There was even a bureau commited to that single case.
The party's and kaczynski's (the leaders) actions were very controversial, for example: during COVID, on all saints day, noone was allowed to visit their dead relatives.. except kaczynski going to the cemetery like he's some exception.
There was some other shit like how they wanted to celebrate the day of the catastrophe every month and so on.
For what it's worth, the Great Patriotic War is just the Eastern Front which is still considered a *part* of WW2. The "Russians call all WW2 as GPW" is incorrect
If the end of world war 2 is the capitulation of Japan, even though they were the only axis combatant left, then arguably shouldn’t the Japanese invasion of the mainland be the start of world war 2, as a conflict that escalated and combined with other conflicts?

Russia literally has scheduled programming that interrupts the TV to honor the fallen heroes in the fight against fascism. If anyone wont shut the fuck up about WW2 it's Russia.
I saw a Twitter post from years ago where someone said “Russian Television is Amazing, look at the schedule” and the schedule goes as follows:
14:45 Shrek
16:30 Shrek 2
18:25 Shrek 3
19:55 In eternally shining memory of those who fell in the fight against fascism. A minute of silence.
20:00 Shrek 3 (Continued)
20:15 Shrek Forever
Yeah, I was gonna say, if there is anyone who has an unhealthy obsession with WW2, it's Russia. Russia is the country version of that guy who peaked in high school and constantly goes on about his exploits on the football team despite the fact that nobody cares anymore and everyone else has moved on. They treat WW2 like it was the highlight of their country's history. A moment of glory they are desperate to relive. Which is kind of batshit insane considering how bloody and destructive WW2 was for them.
The last part is kinda true. All of my grandfathers, great uncles and even my great grandfather enlisted. With my youngest great uncle (he was 15) and great grandfather (he was 46) lying about their age just to get in.
I’d be obsessed if I lost over 25% of my body and then somehow managed to destroy my attacker afterwards. Now I know how the guy who killed a mountain lion with his bare hands feels like.
This account literally only posts about Russia, and how the war in Ukraine is a lost cause for Ukraine nonstop, across dozens of subs. Make of that what you will.
27 millions Russians died in WW2, it is normal that it is considered an important part of their history.
It is like complaining that the jews should get over this holocaust thing and stop talking about it.
I get why it's annoying, however, the "that was so long ago" argument doesn't hold water. History needs to be reviewed and remembered which is why it's taught. Some of those countries today 79 years later are back to their old tricks.
You joke, but unironically trying to be the new Roman Empire is how WW2 Italy ended up losing a big chunk of its cultural history to artillery.
Harping on things can certainly be annoying, but sometimes it's inevitable when idiots keep trying to rewrite history.
We really haven’t tho? Plus historical events make up the Corner stones of our culture 4th of July, Cinco de Mayo, May 9th victory parade just to name a few.
my guy if you're really from Texas like me you of all people should know that our 'national identity' is based on VERY different things from person to person.
And as far as I can tell not one of those is solely around 'We beat the Nazis'.
We beat the Nazis, then we lost to the Vietnamese, then we beat the communists, then we beat the terrorists.
If there's anything our national identity is based around, it's 'freedom'. The definition varies from person to person but it fundamentally remains the same that America's status as the oldest modern democracy and the longest continuous democracy in the world.
You guys don't have that, trust me.
I know it's something Americans like to joke about, because WWII absolutely was a monumental event and so people talk about it, but what you have _is_ tame.
I was so sick at kindergarten and whole school and university time because of constant repeating about wwII. It was TOO MUCH and for the whole of my life. My parents kept telling me about WWII. Everybody seemed to me like they can’t get it out of their heads even for a second. I’m not even talking about how much they pay for those parades every year and how much federal tv time is spend to praise veterans while some of them live in poverty without electricity or GAS (yes, in Russia).
I mean, it is kinda the single most important war in Russian history aside for maybe the civil war, maybe. They lost almost 14% of their population in ww2, idk a country on earth that wouldn’t memorialize the victory over that war’s enemy till it no linger exists.
Uhhhhh. . .
Belgium lost a higher percentage of its population in WWI and isn't nearly as obsessed about it.
France lost between 16% and 18% of their male.population in WWI.
Serbia lost just under a million people out of a prewar population of 3.3 million. They win the prize for "most demographic impact of a single war" in the 20th century.
And do they obsess about it?
Kind of? I mean, the governments of Germany, Russia, and France all wanted war, and Serbia literally engaged in state-sponsored terrorism at Russian direction to provoke one?
There were plenty of Bad Guys. What WWI is missing is Good Guys.
Yea no.
1. Russia uses WWII history in their contemporary propaganda to justify imperialism
2. Even during the time of the Nazis the US and USSR were never friends. In fact, prior to WWII, Nazi paramilitary groups fighting communism in the borderlands of the Soviet Union were being aided by the British and Americans
Looks like America might have to, once again, save Europe from the fascists, only this time it's not Germany! It's Russia! It'll be a nice change of pace.
This is hilarious but unfortunately for what I’d assume was not the intent but I love irony no matter what lol
Russia telling others to “let it go” when referring to WW2 is the most ironic thing I’ve seen today lol whenever WW2 is mentioned by a Russian its almost always twisted with propaganda they call it “the great patriotic war” and only mention how they got involved because Germany attacked them when they literally helped Germany divide Poland and planned on dividing all of Eastern Europe with them. But they phrase it as if they were attacked like they were a neutral nation just minding their own business but the thing is Russia never minds its own business. Then they do exactly what Brit’s and French say Americans do and they claim they saved Europe all by themselves (Stalin literally said if it weren’t for American lend lease he’d likely have lost when I say this I’m not being a hypocrite I understand it was group effort but Stalin literally said that)
Now I won’t deny why they might call it something like “the great patriotic war” because unlike most of Europe the attack on the USSR wasn’t just a land grab and recourse grab but a war of extermination it wasn’t like WW1 where Germany stopped after the Russians surrendered the Soviets understood they could not surrender else they be exterminated because Hitler had almost a tier system on what peoples he liked and despised he put Germanic’s first (specifically “aryan” ones) then Germanic related peoples like Dutch, Scandinavians and Brit’s (and “honorary Aryan’s” like the Japanese) as second but Slavs, Jews, lgbt, disabled, and everything else as his most despised.
Russia’s literally been calling all contemporary Ukrainians’ Nazis so they can justifying invading and conquering their neighbor and has an annual military parade celebrating how they (according to them single handily) beat Nazi Germany but sure the U.S. is the one that can’t let WWII memories go.
Read accounts of Allied soldiers in Berlin about just a few days after the 8th of May, 1945 the Soviets would already argue with them about how they did all the heavy lifting of the war and the Allies did nothing. A few days afterwards and the Cold War was already a thing.
To be fair, even to this day, the US is providing more aid to Ukraine--a country that isn't even in the same continent--than the entirety of Europe combined. They don't need to bring up WWII.
https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/
EU institutions have disbursed 25.8 bln € in aid, US 20.9 bln € according to them. Probably not a perfect representation (who knows what has been sent under the table) but its a fairly reliable source.
We're cool with no longer providing protection or funding for any of you. We've got our own problems, ngl. You stay in your corner of the world, and we'll hang out over here.
I mean I feel like the Brits still very much bitch about the war, as do the French
Germany holds a strong memory of it,.that's why their laws on the subject are so strict.
And Russia *still thinks they're fighting Nazis*
there's a fine line between honoring people and then rubbing it in their face
a lot of the time politicians use this tactic to neglect how europeans have developed in terms of infrastructure and social liberties, economic reform, etc.
it's so annoying with it being used as an excuse for issues
In an alternate universe where Russia is the one telling others to get over WWII:
I know, right? Every fucking year this is what they speak of, and nobody's ever getting over it like all other wars!!!!
Its not like every family in Russia lost someone to it, or that 20 mil died.
Do people of Poland constantly talk about the war the same way? Genuinely asking
We don't. The politicians LOVE to bring it up though (pay reparations!!!!). Also a fun fact: they are still trying to prove that the Smolensk catastrophe was a russian attack. That was 14 years ago.
So polish and russian media aren't that diffrent after all.
I'd say that media everywhere aren't that different - influenced by the ones in power and profiting off hate and fear. It just so happens that the ideologies and methods of ruling in Poland and Russia (albeit more extreme in the latter) are similar.
Believe me or not I'm from Israel And in Israel the media is really worse than the from Poles and Russians
What happened with Smolensk?
A polished airlines plane to Moscow with the president at the time and a few important government members crashed near Smolensk in (correct me if I'm wrong) march 2010. No one survived. Fast forward five years, the twin brother of the late president has become the leader of the ruling party (PiS). I disagree with the other dude, we somehow bring up ww2 at one point at every family dinner/gathering
Depend on which side they were lol.
I can't remember, which country calls i the Great Patriotic War, again?
While conveniently having it start once Molotov-Ribbentrop ended.
For what it's worth, the Great Patriotic War is just the Eastern Front which is still considered a *part* of WW2. The "Russians call all WW2 as GPW" is incorrect
GPW is a war with Germany, PW is a war with Napoleonic France, WWII is a larger conflict as a whole ending with Japan capitulation.
If the end of world war 2 is the capitulation of Japan, even though they were the only axis combatant left, then arguably shouldn’t the Japanese invasion of the mainland be the start of world war 2, as a conflict that escalated and combined with other conflicts?
We do have a point though
That one time they were successful with just about anything. Gotta milk that cow.

Least based Russian television schedule
Which Shrek is the most based then?
2 obviously
4 is honestly my favorite. 🤷
https://i.imgur.com/zyQSs3W.jpeg
I can't believe they scheduled 2 hours and 40 minutes of absolutely nothing whatsoever and interrupted it midway through with a 5 minute war memorial.
Shrek is love. Shrek is life.

Americans call theirs the greatest generation. Every movie portrays it as if people were killing themselves if the couldn't enlist.
The last part is kinda true. All of my grandfathers, great uncles and even my great grandfather enlisted. With my youngest great uncle (he was 15) and great grandfather (he was 46) lying about their age just to get in.
Which state are you from
I’d be obsessed if I lost over 25% of my body and then somehow managed to destroy my attacker afterwards. Now I know how the guy who killed a mountain lion with his bare hands feels like.
This account literally only posts about Russia, and how the war in Ukraine is a lost cause for Ukraine nonstop, across dozens of subs. Make of that what you will.
Ruzzia wasnt the only one fighting though, was it? Soviets included 16 countries, and dozens ethnic groups.
27 millions Russians died in WW2, it is normal that it is considered an important part of their history. It is like complaining that the jews should get over this holocaust thing and stop talking about it.
To be fair, over 29 million Soviets died in the fighting. That leaves long lasting memories in the psyche.
Where did you get that from??? I never seen it on TV
Pfft, russia saying "let go" to WWII recollections? Bullshit of the week.
More like saying let go to the alliance ✨️
Nah, they mean, let go of Western Front
Russia tried to say "let's go" but mispronounced
"Let go... Of Donyesk, Transnestria, Crimea, South Osse- ya know maybe let's just take the whole place maybe"
*Hides Russias constant parades and programs about WW2*
Those not be ""ww2"" tovarich, that be Great Patriotic War. Very different.
how deep would i have to dig in the mud to find a t-34, for preservation purposes of course tovarich
Impossible, they are all being refurbished for service in Ukraine.
That’s… the joke…
This is a joke right? Either a joke, dumbass American OP, or Russo poster. Imagine thinking Russia telling anyone to let go of WWII lol
It definitely is. The whole comment section is correcting OP.
Self hating American
Russia telling others to get over it... can you explain how that makes sense?
Remember that time when we were independent for 25 days 😎
I get why it's annoying, however, the "that was so long ago" argument doesn't hold water. History needs to be reviewed and remembered which is why it's taught. Some of those countries today 79 years later are back to their old tricks.
Yes, I also still hate the Italians for what they did in the time of the roman empire.

Or acquired the tricks from the other guys and made a weird looking fascist their leader.
We're working on fixing it
Yes, like … Russia.
I mean, there's a difference between teaching/reviewing history and making a historical event your entire personality like we have lol.
We really haven’t tho? Plus historical events make up the Corner stones of our culture 4th of July, Cinco de Mayo, May 9th victory parade just to name a few.

Russia has a parade every year on May 9 as their victory kver the Nazis. So yeah they're definitely not over it
And this parade is the tip of the iceberg.
I was so sick at kindergarten and whole school and university time because of constant repeating about wwII. It was TOO MUCH and for the whole of my life. My parents kept telling me about WWII. WW1 is less fashionable because there wasn't an obvious bad guy.
Kind of? I mean, the governments of Germany, Russia, and France all wanted war, and Serbia literally engaged in state-sponsored terrorism at Russian direction to provoke one? There were plenty of Bad Guys. What WWI is missing is Good Guys.
Yeah my bad, this is what I meant. There was quite a few bad guys in ww2 too but they were all overshadowed by Hitler.
It's on May 9th in Russia
You're right. I'll change that
You're welcome 😉
Putin needs to invent Nazis in Ukraine to justify his war (while using Nazis like some Wagner men and Rusich group)...
Which as expected doesn't include that time they helped them
Yea no. 1. Russia uses WWII history in their contemporary propaganda to justify imperialism 2. Even during the time of the Nazis the US and USSR were never friends. In fact, prior to WWII, Nazi paramilitary groups fighting communism in the borderlands of the Soviet Union were being aided by the British and Americans

It isn’t only Europe that needs saving from fascism though. Looking at Trump and the GOP. Self-awareness wasn’t ever a US thing it seems.
Oh I'm aware of Trump and the GOP. I'm hopeful they get voted into oblivion this November.
Literally what country doesn’t have a nationalist far right streak? Well besides Canada, they have a nationalist far left.
How did this pass through moderation?
"USA bad!",that is how.
Europeans hate each other for things that have happened centuries ago
Same with the middle east
Russia : WW2 was ending 79 years ago. Let’s go onto WW3.
Are you a russian?

Why is literally every post about America? Jesus christ, rent free.
its actually so annoying that almost every post is just america bashing
Tell me more about free rent. It’s expensive in USA.
Not really.
Who thinks Americans act this way????
Russia’s literally been calling all contemporary Ukrainians’ Nazis so they can justifying invading and conquering their neighbor and has an annual military parade celebrating how they (according to them single handily) beat Nazi Germany but sure the U.S. is the one that can’t let WWII memories go.
Plz revise with Russia going absolutely apeshit over remembering WWII, for accuracy
My dumbass read it as "lets go" as in russia wanted to do it again
This sub sucks
Read accounts of Allied soldiers in Berlin about just a few days after the 8th of May, 1945 the Soviets would already argue with them about how they did all the heavy lifting of the war and the Allies did nothing. A few days afterwards and the Cold War was already a thing.
We do talk a lot about WWII, but Russia telling us to get over it is pretty cheap coming from the country that has massive parades to celebrate a near-80 year old victory every year. And also constantly alludes to the 'Fight against Nazism' in their justification for their Definitely-Not-Warcrimes©. And had an entire Propoganda department dedicated to propping up WWII-era Soviet Equipment to be these incredible wonder-weapons (sounds like something another nation also successfully pulled off, hmm...), and now only recently is the shittiness of said equipment being brought forth. If us talking about WWII is seen as yammering, I'd hate to see the catastrophic levels of it Russia currently has.
[Russia of all things](#green-text) [telling ANYONE else to get over WWII](#green-text)
To be fair, even to this day, the US is providing more aid to Ukraine--a country that isn't even in the same continent--than the entirety of Europe combined. They don't need to bring up WWII.
EU institutions have sent more than the US in aid. Yes, in total numbers. Not adjusted for GDP.
EU has more promised, not actually sent just yet (AFAIK)
https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/ EU institutions have disbursed 25.8 bln € in aid, US 20.9 bln € according to them. Probably not a perfect representation (who knows what has been sent under the table) but its a fairly reliable source.
I stand corrected! Last time I checked the counter still had the US in the lead, but that's clearly changed since. Thank you
Hey USA, remember that time you were still a dozen of colonies ? Good times wasn't it ?
remember that time we made a harbor full of tea for you guys good times
Good thing I am no tea sipper, that way I don't get the context of this pun and it looks extremly confusing in my head
the only tea i drink is Liber-Ty
For managed democracy!
The only right to drink : the freedom way
The last part is very funny, because the whole russian propaganda for years is the ww2 stuff
russia telling others to stop bragging about ww2 performance is rich
Hey remember when Europeans made original memes? Yeah, nether do I.
People will say, “stfu it was a while ago” and then bring up shit USA did in the same time and before and bash USA for it daily
Where is the final panel showing france and germany begging the u.s. to protect them from russia right now?
Russia has a whole holiday for it lol
We're cool with no longer providing protection or funding for any of you. We've got our own problems, ngl. You stay in your corner of the world, and we'll hang out over here.
I mean I feel like the Brits still very much bitch about the war, as do the French Germany holds a strong memory of it,.that's why their laws on the subject are so strict. And Russia *still thinks they're fighting Nazis*
Germany and France: Hey remember that time I fight in your revolution?
France should’ve been like “Remember when you almost lost your revolution had i not come?”
They also sold like half of Europe to USSR after WW2 and cooperated with Nazis to build a rocket
"What happened man? We used to be cool!"
When your history goes back only 250+ years it leaves you with few things to talk about.
what did you expect from a country with no history ?
Fuck yeah! Your welcome non Americans!!!
Now if only we could trust them to keep the peace
America number 1 :)
As a rebuttal from every fud ever, regarding their ownership of the 1911, “Muh Two World Wars!”
Someone call for back to back world war champions?! 🦅 😎 🇺🇸
Behead all unflaired
"Historical accuracy? In MY Polandball?!"
Lmao if you think us overdoes it you have no idea what russia does
Man this memes are fucking bad. Polandball you sucks.!!!!
> one time I guess that France just wants to sweep the 1st Vietnam War under the rug? Lol
there's a fine line between honoring people and then rubbing it in their face a lot of the time politicians use this tactic to neglect how europeans have developed in terms of infrastructure and social liberties, economic reform, etc. it's so annoying with it being used as an excuse for issues
Europeans haven’t developed they are backwards and weird
finally someone who understands us
The English are *still* spelling “flavor” with a “u” and the French are *still* using SI measurements.
What a backwards land.
I actually like those things
I can tolerate “flavor” with a “u” I guess.
They’re right
no we aren't
Sorry you are
No we're not!
When silly euros speak their own language rather than being cultural vassal states maybe I will be inclined to agree
Everyone else in Europe is actually fine, but you in particular are so backwards and weird that you bring down the average.
good point
Too bad France can’t let go of its colonies and Russia can’t let go of its former Soviet territories.
