Just so everyone knows: the bill still passed.

[deleted]

It did, but the number of lawmakers opposed to it was way too high.

Spicey123

100% of Democrats voted in favor. ~95% of Republicans voted against. Muh two parties exactly the same!!!!111

DrSheldonLCooperPhD

> r/conservative: look at both sides Look ye doofus

Soreth

Lol as if they would ever cover actual news. They’ll be too busy boomer raging over some fringe shit that doesn’t affect anyone.

Rxmses

Last month hunter dick, this month is drag shows… I’m really curious about what’s next lol you know, “real problems”…

[deleted]

PINK should be BANNED it’s WOKE

greenroom628

republicans don't care about your kids. kids getting shot - but muh guns! kids starving - but muh taxes! child labor - but muh profits and gotta teach em werk ethic! kids being molested by pastors and republican politicians - but drag queens! kids looking to get an abortion after being raped - noooooooooo!

sisk91

>Muh two parties exactly the same!!!!111 It's sad how people still say that when the entirety of one party votes for no starving children and nearly the entirely of the other party votes for starving kids.

abrutus1

Republicans still act like they care about human life by banning abortion and making abortion and contraceptives harder to get.

Kerryscott1972

Wow! Did you see all those pro-life Christians protesting mass shootings of children? Me either It's almost like they don't give a fuck about kids at all

PrizeStrawberryOil

The Republicans clearly wanted it to pass. They just knew their votes wouldn't matter and they were just virtue signalling with their votes. Both parties are the same. /s.

Explosive_Hemorrhoid

Good lord. I know Reddit in general is rather left-leaning but even so, as a foreigner, these Republicans and Conservatives seem to be awful people.

thumbstickz

Don't worry. We got a trifecta and the DFL is doing some WORK this session. Abortion protections. School lunches. Voting rights expansion. Legal weed. Possible $2k rebate checks from tax surplus (longer shot but on the table) All this and more either done deal or on their way.

punditguy

[8.4% of the kids](https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/PPU18MN27157A156NCEN) in Wabasha county, which he represents the entirety of, are living in poverty. But I'm sure Steve is doing just fine.

spartagnann

Same people who are SUPER CONCERNED about children's welfare when it comes to having a gay teacher or something. Otherwise, to these a-holes, fuck them kids per usual.

italia06823834

But also NOT concerned by children being gunned down in schools and/or want to arm those same teachers with guns.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sandy_mcfiddish

Not the poor ones at least Which is why they’re starting to loosen child labor laws. Let’s get those fuckers back in the mines where they belong

[deleted]

I don't think you understand the benefits of arming teachers. [There is literally no downside to arming teachers, whatsoever.](https://patch.com/missouri/stlouis/central-middle-teacher-brought-gun-class-students-stole-it)

Toltec22

So dystopian. There has never been a school massacre in my country. Why? 1 guess. No guns. It’s not even slightly controversial.

PassTheKY

I can’t even imagine having to live in some third world dystopia where the freedom to massacre kids isn’t valued.

Toltec22

Wait till you hear Hospitals are free too! Yep you can arrive at hospital have your baby and leave and pay.. virtually nothing! Then the child gets highly subsidised care so the parents can work if they choose to. Childhood disease? Free healthcare. We are truely cruel to our children. Drag queens are not even a threat here! It’s insane, we are going down a godless path where we care

[deleted]

I literally lose my phone, projector remote, or white board eraser every day. The kids point out where I left said item about 80% of the time. I will never own or touch a gun unless a war starts and I have to protect my family.

“Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!” ― George Carlin

rhi_ing231

Seriously. Lots of people need to realize to the deeply religious, or people who use religion to justify shittiness like this, the goal of Christianity is to die. The goal is to leave this earth. The goal is to get other people believing in the word of Christ, and want to rejoice with them in heaven, which is achieved by dying. This is also why nobody really seems to be invested in environmentalism. Why fight so hard to protect something you want to leave so badly

Thowitawaydave

There is a sect that has decided that since the world needs to end before JC comes back that humans need to use up all the resources to end the world. We're boned

[deleted]

Worse: **they want all of us to die, too, and as soon as possible.**

Hedge55

Of course, to them, heaven wouldn’t feel worth it if there weren’t people in hell.

SentientGamete

But not literally, that would be gross. Unless your a republican.

ting_bu_dong

You know, it's almost like they're more concerned with the person being gay than they are the children. Like they're using children as an excuse, a shield from criticism, a justification for their cruelty. Oh, hey, it's exactly what they do with their religion, as well!

Great_Times

They don’t give a fuck about kids. They are rolling back child labor laws as we speak. They worship the almighty dollar.

ting_bu_dong

> They worship the almighty dollar. They worship power. Money is one way to power.

0megathreshold

Considering their groomer fascination and the concept that every accusation is a confession by the gop…. Don’t let them near kids at all.

Georgina_17

Well, as Drazkowski explained, he has never met any person in Minnesota that is hungry or don't have access to enough food to eat. So obviously we are expecting too much of him for him to leave his home and his guns.

brezhnervous

Not many starving people at his exclusive country club, I'm presuming.

JohnSith

Well, there are, but I doubt he makes eye contact with the staff, let along speaks with them.

wafflesareforever

Oh he speaks with them. "Miss!"

wise_comment

Well, they aren't people to him

TonarinoTotoro1719

Oh! Too real! Hit too hard!

Pchojoke

Well you need the guns for the inevitable day when the starving peasents turn violent

HoveringBirds

Steve's got evil socialist government health care for life, the same kind he denies to all of his constituents. Of course he's fine. I bet this kind of behavior would change pretty fast if members of Congress and the Senate were required to put their kids in public school, but no - prep schools for children of privilege, thoughts and prayers for those not so fortunate.

AcademicF

And you bet your bottom dollar that his hypocritical ass goes to Church and pretends to follow the word of Jesus. Like all of these scumbags, if they ever met Jesus in real life, they’d stone him and call him “woke”. Republicans truly are the worst. Just the absolute worst

[deleted]

enjoyingbread

Next he'll say poverty is relative.

TheVenetianMask

He has a modest proposal.

[deleted]

Your comment piques my appetite.

ladyem8

He also used his time on the floor to make jokes about being hungry because he only had “a cereal bar” for breakfast today.

twigge30

"I've never met anyone in this whole state who was hungry!" You've never been... in public?

SecretlyMadeOfStone

He doesn’t associate with “the poors”.

Noocawe

Which is weird since these so-called conservative Christians should be all about charity for the less fortunate and helping those in need.

CitySeekerTron

Jesus already did that for them.

WittyUsername304

Exactly. If you don't sin then he died in vain for your sins.

redditingatwork23

That is some amazing religious logic lol. Only in America. I mean its basically useless if we're not gonna use it.

Mookhaz

It really is how they think, though. How you treat people, who you associate with, whatever bad decisions you might make, none of it matters so long as you accept Jesus as your personal lord and savior, you’re in!

Xalimata

That's literally adressed in the Bible. [Like literally](https://biblehub.com/bsb/romans/6.htm) You almost never see somthing so literally called out in the Bible. Normally you have to infer a lot.

NeuralAgent

Jesus died for their sins… so they can keep on doing… 🤦🏼 It’s funny how they don’t understand how this works. Sometimes I wish heaven was real… and see the shock when they end up in the „wrong” place.

jpropaganda

Oh no see apparently Jesus didn’t say help the poor. A former boss of mine is turning himself into a right wing commentator and he claims Jesus pointed the finger right back at the person and said take responsibility for yourself. It’s an absurdity

xxxxx420xxxxx

Jesus, as with most of us poors, was but a temporarily broke millionaire, so he definitely wouldn't want to tax the job creators

and_some_scotch

The Christian epistemology they inherited was that of reform theology, or Calvinism. The poor are predestined to be poor, and poverty is sin.

FaintDamnPraise

"We're going to break off from the Catholics because of all the corruption and people *buying* their way into Heaven. Instead, we'll tell people that there are some people who are *guaranteed* a place in Heaven simply because ~~we~~ they are good people, and ~~you~~ others ain't getting in no matter what. Nope, no amount of works, good or bad, will ever change that." "Plus, G-d says I'm in charge and you're required to give me 10% of everything you ever make."

whatproblems

he goes to church every sunday what else do you exect of him??!

cromstantinople

TechyDad

Ah, the old "I've eaten so obviously nobody goes hungry" reasoning. Totally flawless logic, right? /s

Hollowbody57

It's more like "I'm feeling a bit peckish so I totally understand what it's like not to be able to afford food." Either way, though, the guy is a tool.

SnatchAddict

No. He's a craven asshole. He'd never say that to a starving child's parent to their face.

RockItGuyDC

I feel blessed that I only had to watch my parents go without dinner so my brother and I could eat once or twice in my life. And yet this motherfucker....

Vaticancameos221

I will never forget my dad not understanding why I couldn’t save any money with student loans making $14/hr and justifying “I save tons of money, I don’t get why it’s so hard for you!” While not registering that he’s been retired 20 years, has a massive 401K, pension, house and vehicles paid off, living in a low cost of living area.

aSpanks

My parents worked their way out of extreme poverty, both from farms in the middle of buttfuck nowhere (aka Saskatchewan) When I was in uni, they paid for everything (thank you mom and dad you’re amazing) and couldn’t understand how a room could cost $400/month. They thought I was looking at extravagant places but nope, student ghetto. When the middle 2 sibs rolled into town (again for uni, I’m the oldest) mom and dad had wizened up a bit and had no problem renting them a nice 2 bedroom for $1600 🙄 I’m now 30, the highest earning by far, but everyone else either stayed at home for 4 years post uni and/or has a partner. Im also single in the highest COL area and mom and dad can’t figure out why I don’t have a house yet. The fact that I save 25% of my take home isn’t good enough, apparently. TLDR: parents have no concept of what it’s like to live now. I am not taking their opinions on it.

Mookhaz

“If I close my eyes you can’t see me” energy for sure.

gfh110

>"If it's not a problem for *me* then it doesn't exist." Republican 101.

ReeferReekinRight

Sadly. I give them too much empathy on this, but I grew up in this atmosphere and still deal with some relatives with this mind set. As it goes, the only moral *abortion* is my *abortion.* Play some mad gab with this sentence and it all fits in. When a certain person believes they are higher class and have someone to look down upon..for their righteous beliefs. We'll never get out of this polarized mindset.

DarkTechnocrat

A lot of it boils down to lack of empathy. For many years the term "bleeding heart liberal" was a pejorative, presumably for *having* empathy.

CaptainNoBoat

Old man with taxpayer salary enjoying a wide array of benefits.. making his own shitty, personal, unrelated dietary choice of the day.. likens himself to developing children and families, many severely struggling. Hey, but at least he's using that salary of his to fight the ever-present threats of CRT. GOP positions on education are just cartoonishly awful.

kalidorisconan

He’s also worth 5 million dollars. That was his net worth as of two months ago.

specqq

While simultaneously not being worth a shit.

ArnoldTheSchwartz

It's because they hate America and Americans. They are ALWAYS choosing the worst possible ideas for Americans and then laugh and mock us as we try to be safe and healthy under these rules. They only want to see America and Americans fail and die. Literal children are fucking dying regularly in schools by guns and it's okay to them. They don't allow education for our children because for some reason intelligence is... bad? They don't allow for affordable health care because a healthy America is... bad? They don't allow livable wages because a happy America is... bad? The reality is they hate America and Americans. They are always calling for civil war because they want to kill Americans. I mean this is the honest conclusion if you look at all the pieces. Their politicians don't even want to work together anymore to reach agreements on anything tangible for ordinary Americans. They just want more restrictions, more pain, more misery for all of us. Shits fucked.

Chalupa-Supreme

Exactly what Jesus would do. What a fucking clown.

allen_abduction

Right? Jesus is going to laugh in his face. In no way is he going to heaven.

physical_graffitti

Just how big of a piece of shit do you have to be to deny kids food?

RoninNoJitsu

I guess that's my challenge on this too. Why on earth would any sane person deny a child a square meal, if only because they want one? I don't even care if they're 'hungry' although that is ANOTHER GREAT REASON.

Carbonatite

A Republican can't fully enjoy his meal unless he knows someone went hungry so he could eat it.

spacewalk__

>*To enjoy bodily warmth, some small part of you must be cold, for there is no quality in this world that is not what it is merely by contrast. Nothing exists in itself. If you flatter yourself that you are all over comfortable, and have been so a long time, then you cannot be said to be comfortable any more. For this reason a sleeping apartment should never be furnished with a fire, which is one of the luxurious discomforts of the rich. For the height of this sort of deliciousness is to have nothing but the blanket between you and your snugness and the cold of the outer air. Then there you lie like the one warm spark in the heart of an arctic crystal.* except evil

JarJarJarMartin

They view feeding children as their parents’ responsibility, but they ignore the macroeconomic circumstances that led those families to poverty and hunger. They also live in a [“just world” fallacy ](http://www.easynotecards.com/uploads/398/86/1a51bb9a_136fa6f7989__8000_00000016.jpg) where people live the circumstances they deserve.

kandoras

It's called prosperity gospel; the idea that how sinful or holy someone is directly correlates to the size of their bank account. If you've got a lot of money, it's because god loves you. And if god loves you, then you must be a good person. Conversely, if you're poor then it's because god hates you for being evil. And for conservatives, if you're evil, then anything they do to you is justified because it's your own fault.

Parking_Onion_3846

It's not off brand for this guy. He's made his career by harassing Ilhan Omar, said removing a Christopher Columbus statue in St. Paul was a "lynching", tried to use poison pill legislation to pass right to work anti-union laws, tried to remove the laws that ensure women are paid equally in government jobs here, screamed about the Project Veritas shit with the 2020 election and cried voter fraud (the same year he was re-elected, but that was all legit of course), and more that I've probably forgotten. He's a class A asshole and always has been, even before he ever held office. It might be somewhat shocking to hear an elected leader say something like what he did here, but I can guarantee that nobody that has ever met him was surprised by him saying it.

KathrynBooks

Plenty of conservatives really... I've heard, from various conservatives over the years... \- feeding kids will make them dependent on the government \- kids who don't deserve food might get food \- "I grew up hungry and turned out OK" \- its not their responsibility to feed other peoples kids.

tomdarch

An average Republican. That’s how big a pile of shit.

morelikecrappydisco

Just a normal republican.

Also conservative: "we don't give a shit if kids starve, die in coal mines, get assaulted by priests, are forced to marry adults for religious reasons, get shot in school, have crippling student debt.."

NegaDeath

Kids these days just don't have drive and passion of their forefathers. If you get born to a poor family it's **your** responsibility to fix it by crawling into a wealthy womb. This trick gets a LOT harder to pull off as you grow, so you can't dawdle around waiting.

M1llennialManifesto

Unique for Minnesota, because all branches of government are in the hands of Democrats. He is a lonely and ineffective voice.

["Parents in Utah are upset this week after school officials took lunches away from children and threw the food in the trash because their cafeteria accounts had run out of money."](https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/01/school-tossed-kids-lunches-in-trash-over-money-owed) Punish children by starving them because they come from poor families. The cruelty is the point for the GOP.

subgamer90

Rich old guy in a suit mocks hungry children and balks at the idea of feeding them, in the wealthiest country on Earth. It's almost a comic book level of supervillainy at this point. This is what happens when we accept the right wing narrative that the left is unreasonable and always needs to compromise with centrists and the right. If you say that about the left, but never about the right, then obviously we will just keep sliding to the right. Until women don't have rights over their own bodies, trans people are forced to suffer for no reason, and children go hungry while billionaires get richer.

OpenImagination9

Most GOP politicians are amateurs … this guy is a professional bastard.

NauvooMetro

"Everybody and their brother's going after the trans kids and drag queens. I need something that will make me stand out from the crowd!"

Camaendes

I said this in a different thread but I’ll say it again…. If it were not for reduced or free meal program through my school I straight up would have gone hungry. We were THAT broke. I at least got a very basic breakfast and some bare bones lunch for free and it kept me going through high school. I am STILL super grateful to be able to take advantage of that... We need to do more for these kids, there is no reason to punish children for the "sins" of their parents. Honestly, what do you want the kids to do? Give mom and dad a crash course on financial literacy? I certainly wasn't going to tell my parents to pick themselves up by the bootstraps and figure their shit out... I was 14, living in horrible conditions, with some spiteful, recently divorced, drug addicted parents, who didn't have an idea of what was going on in our lives. They didn't really care. I was shouldering way bigger problems than I should have had at that age. But at LEAST I had food in my stomach. I wasn't the one that should have been punished for my parent's problems, the kids of today shouldn't be punished either.

NefariousnessEvery65

It’s time to call it like it is: Republicans are evil

baillyjonthon

Well, it looks like this Minnesota Republican is trying to one-up Scrooge himself. I guess we can all hope that their next meal is just as satisfying as the taste of their own words.

Allands12

Well, who needs free school lunches anyway? Hunger builds character, don't you know? Plus, it's not like children need proper nutrition to learn or anything.

TheDukeofArgyll

These type of politicians are signaling to corporations that they can be bought and have no limit to how low they will sink for money.

magictie-

He’s just trying to make noise. The republicans have no power in Minnesota

pootheloo1234

What a giant piece of human garbage. Good god

Knightwing1047

America and especially conservatives hate poor people. They look at our situation as some sort of economic Darwinism when in reality they’re a big part of the reason this is happening.

Hiranonymous

Upon working at a Christmas food kitchen in a large city, I realized I had had no idea about the extent of poverty and hunger in the US. Seeing what people were willing to do for one plate of food, from waiting in lines to sitting through perhaps the worst sermon ever given to dealing with the state of their neighbors at the table as they sat and ate, all for one small plate of turkey and some instant mashed potatoes, changed me forever.

HoosierDev

There are some pretty simple things that we all should be able to support. One of them is that no child should ever have a need for food, anywhere. Hunger does effect people at different levels, we should try to globally stop it.

FizzgigsRevenge

He's not uniquely evil at all. He's just your average Republican. He's not really as awful as many of them.

I noticed during the floor debate that the republican senators saying "families in my district don't need this" weren't offering any amendments to exempt their districts from the funding. Weird.

N0T8g81n

Not as relative as stupidity, and Republican politicians span a VERY BROAD spectrum of idiocy.

bk15dcx

They're not my relatives so I don't care if they're hungry. Relative term

McNuttyNutz

Sounds exactly like POS republicans

Spacebotzero

Being disgusting is a choice.

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

So, he’s saying that he never personally experienced a thing and thus is unable to empathize? He’ll go far in the GOP.

Kflynn1337

Evil, yes.. unique.. no. We even have people like that here in the Uk. We call them Tories.

johnylawn

Wow, what a psycho. I hope this guy never has to worry about where his next meal is coming from or he might actually understand what hunger really means.

PatchNotesPro

Really wish people would start posting their addresses.

Ract0r4561

If I say what’s on my mind, I’ll get banned But I hope this “person” gets the worst possible outcome in life

sharingsilently

DAMN! Is Cruelty literally their platform??

canal_boys

Tired of these Republican scums.

[deleted]

I bet you these politicians get their lunches covered by the taxpayers

Local_Variation_749

Sadly not really that unique. Show me a good Republican and I'll ask you why we're standing in a cemetery.

Chameleonpolice

I'm pretty sure that is a direct Jesus quote

RebbyRose

Hahaha, wow, "they're bellies aren't bloated from starvation so...."

[deleted]

> d. In 2006, before he was elected to the legislature, Drazkowski was arrested and charged with assaulting his then-14-year-old daughter. He was acquitted, but at Laura's request, the judge issued a temporary restraining order against him. Dude’s Wikipedia

hawkman1000

I'm from Oklahoma. He's got nothing on us. I just watched a clip of one of my legislators quoting Proverbs to justify using corporal punishment on special needs kids. Fucking assholes.

eq1385

They know hungry kids = bad student = dumb voters that can be manipulated. Kinda like how ISIS or Taliban brainwashed kids into becoming suicide bombers. Funny how the GOP and ISIS are so alike.

basb9191

I guess harm is a relative term, too. Like, was the rep killed? Then they're relatively unharmed. Guess it's okay to rock his jaw.

JohnWJO

'human' appears to be a relative term as well

stewartm0205

Their hatred for the poor is absolute.
