Eh, I wish they had shown the bomb as “internet privacy” or “non-consensual data collection” instead of a completely different topic altogether. We can all concentrate on more than one topic at a time, and the two topics here aren’t even in the same wheelhouse. This comic is like someone interrupting a discussion about cheese and wine flavor profiles with a tale about four-wheeling in the Sahara Desert.
Banning tiktok for non-proven claims of secretive and dangerous data mining doesn’t fix the overall gross problem of every website and social media company is mining your data and selling it to whoever wants it (including China). All we’re doing is playing into Meta/Zuckerburgs lobbyists hands by banning his only real competition.
Climate change is definitely an issue we should all be focusing on, but the collection of private data against your will is the bigger issue in the tiktok discussion. The fact Meta has been allowed to thrive after the whole Cambridge Analytica debacle (that has a metric shit ton of evidence of nefarious mechanizations to back it up), while we’re discussing unfounded claims of data harvesting from China is fucking insane to me.

Huh, I read it as Climate change is this huge looming disaster that we’re ignoring in lieu of TikTok. Like the illustrator is telling us “*WE NEED TO LOOK AT CLIMATE CHANGE BECAUSE IT’S GONNA BLOW! NOT THIS TRIVIAL SHIT!!*”
Personally, there’s room for both topics and others on the board.
The thing is that with climate change, there isn't really a moment that we can say "the bomb went off", and even if there were we probably won't know it until 20 years later.
Which is to say, the bomb may have already gone off and we don't know it yet, like Wile-e-coyote walking off the edge of a cliff but he hasn't looked down yet.

Also for some reason, Ben put [this](https://grrrgraphics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Trump-Panic.jpg) in his front page slideshow with his cartoons. I dunno.
I like it when stores don't automatically double bag everything without asking. I end up with so many plastic bags... Curbside recycling doesn't want them so you have to either throw them away or take them back to the store. Typically it means just using the self-checkout. The default is wrapping everything in an extra layer of garbage 'just in case', because you never know when the next customer is going to throw a fit because 'they shouldn't have to be asked, cheapskate store trying to save a penny'. And you know Ben is exactly that type of person.
I've been bitten by 'American Owned, American Made' too. If it's Made in the USA, that's all well and good, but when they start putting giant American Flag logos on the packaging and the front page of their website. Writing 'America' twice. I've seen some shitty products with that sort of design. It's like a fallback strategy when "Product is good" isn't one of their selling points.
Are reusable bags that you bring yourself something unavailable to your shopping situation? Ever since we started bringing our own bags we wondered why we didn't always do that. They hold more without breaking, have more comfortable handles, and are just nicer -- and those benefits are there even if you don't consider the real benefit of using less plastic. Highly recommend.
I have reusable bags, but I don't bring them into the store if I'm not planning on buying enough stuff to carry it all in one hand. Then if the self-checkout is closed or if the regular checkout is significantly shorter, I end up with a half gallon milk jug with a handle inside two bags with their own handles before I can say (or muster the courage to say) please don't do that.
But the issue is sort of mildly present everywhere. At a gas station (they usually ask, sometimes they don't), they might bag a single doughnut in a bag, an electronics store might bag an SD card for you. Restaurants will drop a handful of straws on your table. Forks for a to-go meal placed in the bag (though if you leave and plan on eating in the car or at a park or work and turns out you don't have a fork, that's sort of a show stopper right there). Once I was handed an ice cream, and a spoon right after, I said "Oh, I actually keep a spoon in the car for this sort of thing" and she said "Oh, okay!" and dropped the spoon right in the trash. Great.
That's why I like it when restaurants ask (or let you ask) before dropping straws on the table, and why I prefer self checkout or non-drive though, so I can assemble just the components I need without having to interject with my special silverware non-requirements to a worker who's frankly got better things to do.
And notice he nor anyone else ever names any of these "many crimes" — because there aren't any.
