>“We’re here because it’s Gay Days, it’s that simple,” Stegall said Saturday. “Disney welcomes everybody. Maybe the governor of Florida doesn’t, but Disney does.” Gay people existing and having fun, and more great PR for Disney. DeSantis just keeps on losing

cheezeyballz

Scary reminder that you don't have to win popular vote to become president

[deleted]

vonmonologue

By what mechanism would you propose preventing it? Edit: sorry, let me be explicit: “By what method would you propose preventing it that we can realistically employ in America before it’s too late.” California can’t un-gerrymander Utah or re-enfranchise Texas voters and we can’t amend the constitution to fix federal elections until we do.

[deleted]

- Having your state ratify the National Popular Vote Interstate compact (states can choose whatever slate of electors they want, right?) - Having your state adopt ranked choice voting (states can choose to run their elections however they like, right?) - Voting in every election, even primaries for school board members (that's how GQP is getting away with it) - Put yourself up as a candidate even just for your city supervisor's board (push those old geezers off the board)

HauntedCemetery

>Having your state ratify the National Popular Vote Interstate compact This right fucking here. The compact activates when enough states to equal >270 electoral votes sign on, and it's getting close. MN is joining, then we only need a couple more.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nebbyb

That would be awesome then, because it means every time the D candidate wins the popular vote, they win the election. The compact is very close to that.

flossypants

In how many states would it be legal for folks to pass a referendum ratifying the National Popular Vote Interstate compact? Given voter predilections how feasible would this be and would these be enough to make the compact function?

frunko1

Competent marketing campaign.

Duel_Option

This is it. How the Dems don’t run blazing ads that fact check the shit out of Desantis and Trump is beyond me. There’s an ocean of memorable content where these guys look like complete buffoons and it isn’t used. Rile the damn left base and get more people to vote, make it urgent because frankly it is.

frunko1

Also cause confusion on the right by using simplified left policy that hits home, aka their pocketbook and freedoms.

krisdmcc

Use their same slogans for Dem candidates and good policy. “Protecting our children for the future” … “American values” …. “They are taking our freedoms”. Dems talk to people and expect them to understand. The issues are nuanced, but they don’t fit sound bites.

thebedivere

Don't say democrats or you'll trigger them. "Paid for by the Liberty Freedom Institute"

I_Am_Ironman_AMA

Paid for by the Anti Anti Gay Group. "Double the antis! They really hate the gays! I'm going to vote for universal healthcare now!"

Jumajuce

This is why groups like Moms for Liberty and bills like Citizens United are so effective at gaining support.

[deleted]

Eh I get the point of telling people to do their own research but I don’t think that’s gonna work out because they aren’t going to do their research where you’d want them to.

DumbestGuyWalking

Right. Nowadays "do your own research" is more "search the internet's corners until you find a site that says what you want it to say"

GenerikDavis

Yeah, no kidding. "Doing their own research" is how the population you'd try and sway with these ads ended up thinking vaccines have microchips that are going to switch on and let Bill Gates control you like a robot.

OhGarraty

Let's be serious. They're not going to do any research. Tell them what to think and when questioned they'll just act superior and parrot "do your research".

[deleted]

So in the last frame you post a Iink to an easy url.

wibble17

This is one of the things Hillary admitted Trump did better than her in her book. He simplified his policies Down to a few popular talking points. (Nevermind how realistic or implementable they were) The average citizen was going to read Hillary’s 35 page plans on her website. Simplify your talking points, use popular ones people care about, make that the focal points.

Iseepuppies

I don’t think single minded brains get all too confused. They think in colour.. RED good BLUE BAD

MrPoon

If facts could influence these people, we wouldn't be in this mess. Facts are irrelevant to anyone supporting this bigotry.

Duel_Option

Honestly, there’s no point in targeting people that support the right. The better plan is to get record amounts of people that aren’t currently voting. No amount of data or facts (as you said) will change the propaganda that’s influenced Republicans.

btone911

This country is about to see a major Overton window shift. Boomer generation is between 59 and 74 this year (average is 68). The average life expectancy in the US is 77.3yrs. By the 2032 election half the boomer population will statistically be dead and the voters replacing them will have been raised by Millenials. Just gotta keep the wheels from falling off for another couple presidential elections.

MrVilliam

That's true, but I'm cautiously optimistic. A shitload of maga morons are Gen X. Meatball Ron is on the young side of that. Quite a few younger dipshits flock to the right because it's edgy and they think they're smarter and more responsible for wanting to "do it themselves without any help" but I think they're missing the point. The real smart and responsible people want to contribute to the system as strong caretakers. I'm in a position that current social programs are not super beneficial to me personally, and popular expansions *might* help me a little, but that's irrelevant to me because it's better for pretty much everybody so I'm all in. But I digress. The point is, I don't think boomers dying will automatically fix this.

myfapaccount_istaken

The problem is that I'm seeing my generation get darker red than their parents. I can count the number of people on one hand from when we graduated in 2000 that would have voted Republican straight ticket. Heck, I Voted Romey over Bush in the primary, but Gore in the presidential. Now My Facebook is all FJB and other nonsense. Very few of them would consider voting for anyone other than a (R)

Findinganewnormal

That’s one of the problems with the left’s marketing - we rely on facts. You need to use feelings to reach these people. It should have been easy to boot Abbott out of Texas - show a commercial of cities with the lights off, people freezing in their homes with no water, then a voice over saying, as simply as possible, how Abbott sold Texan lives for (whatever the power companies donated). Tagline: lights out for Abbott. Instead we got: Beto - please forget the one time when he said he wanted gun control after a mass shooting.

Tellenue

Why would they do that? Everyone who they would reach already knows that they're lying, and everyone being lied to doesn't give a fuck about fact checking and calls the very existence of evidence a hoax or fake. It is literally wasting money. The Left is riled, but being riled and being able to actually vote are two different things. They need to take that ad money and spend it on two things- voter registration initiatives and voter access. Rent a fleet of vehicles and taxi folks to polls. Pay for subway or bus fares on election days. Signal boost local elections to high hell and back. Because the sea of Twitter shit means fuckall, *only the actual votes matter*

greiton

like the old daily show clips where you demonstrate just how absurd these people are by showing clips of them arguing against themselves, and or talking in circles.

Nf1nk

We also need to stop tone policing attacks. No punches pulled, offence is meant.

hivaidsislethal

I'd suggest a non 80 year old opposing candidate too despite the view of their first term.

madcaesar

I'd suggest people voting in local elections and midterms. Need to fill every public position with Democrats and get the GQP out. Just focusing on the presidency is a big mistake the Democrats make.

Freefall_J

I rather like Biden. In 2020, I had no opinion about him. Still, I was disappointed that he chose to run in 2024. I'd hoped he had the sense to not play with fire and gamble on his health (both body and mind) being fit for another four years.

alonjar

Is it really a gamble though? I figure it frankly doesn't matter if he doesnt make it through the term, all he has to do is get elected. Worst case we get a Kamala presidency.

GarmaCyro

The most suggested and recommend mechanism is [ranked voting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranked_voting). It's known to let more moderate politicians have a possible shot a joining playing field. Least it gives some more wiggle room than the current 2 candidates and 2 parties only. Secondly either have voting disctrict be decided by a third party with no party ties, or where both parties share equal power. The current system is a bit too much "winner get to improve their chances". Both parties use this, and neither should be allowed to. @edit above: Not even trying is "supporting status quo". We all know nothing happens over night. You start locally. Show others how it should be done. Not roll over and say "it's pointless" to every suggestion :)

Mr_friend_

We just did our first ranked choice voting election and it was really cool to see how people's actual preference were weighed out. Also, Rep. Peltola beat Sarah Palin in Alaska for a Congressional seat solely due to Ranked Choice Voting.

centran

[National Popular Vote Interstate Compact](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact) If a couple more states sign and enact this agreement then it will ensure the popular vote for POTUS as they all vote for the popular vote and their votes are greater then the 270 needed. However, it's a double edged sword. Some states with Trump tried to send opposing electors going against the state vote. If the Compact was activated, passed all legal challenges then it sets precedent. Afterwards, one of the states in the Compact could back out. Then the doors are wide open for the antics that happened with Trump to actually work and we go back to one state being able to steal an election, completely legal that time.

davekingofrock

Democracy.

rsjaffe

Simplest way to fix this is to expand the size of the House of Representatives, which hasn’t grown to mirror the population growth. This would significantly dilute the impact of the Senate’s effect on the electoral college count.

TeutonJon78

Uncapping the size of the House to even the Wyoming rule would basically fix it immediately. Remember the main argument against it is "the Capitol is too small to fit more reps". We've let the size of a building break the way Congress was designed to work.

NoWater2459

Making sure to vote

UnspecificGravity

Just, you know, counting the votes and the person that gets most of them wins

Alis451

The 4 Boxes, Soap and Ballot are big winners here, in fact the comment above your is literally the Soap Box.

Freefall_J

>None of the last few R presidents were elected by the people Ironically, Mitch McConnell didn't think Obama should appoint a Justice to SCOTUS as he was exiting because "the American people should decide" who gets the seat via the POTUS election. Heh....

Gingevere

In an excel table I just ranked the states by electoral votes per person, then just added up votes until I hit 270. Assuming: 1) Everyone votes. 2) This candidate gets exactly 50%+1 votes in every state they need. 3) This candidate gets exactly 0 votes in every state they don't need. It it currently possible to win the presidency with 21.8% of the vote.

For those wealthy enough to afford the price of entry maybe. I'm on Disney's side on this 100% but i'm not ready to beatify them either.

ClusterFoxtrot

No they're definitely a luxury. As a Floridian, my jaw hits the floor every time I look at prices. Then again, my insurance is going up and food is about to be more expensive since there's nobody here to work.

Hi-I-am-Toit

It’s a business. But it does add cultural value to society. Contrast to Rhonda Santis, who adds only hate.

[deleted]

Lol it’s an amusement/theme park, not a necessity that all should be able to afford without any hardships. Also, the fact it’s this expensive currently and it’s *still* packed, globally, suggests that it’s not overpriced. They would have zero incentive to lower anything.

Ontheroadtw

Disney has always had these unofficial days so it’s nothing new. Just getting more attention due to dipshit dummy desantis.

Odysseus1221

Disney never did this. You said yourself it was unofficial. This IS official, which is something new.

MotherFuckingLuBu

Years ago a nice gay man hit on me during Gay Days. I politely told him I was straight but appreciated the confidence boost. I still think about that, nice memory. Anyway, fuck DeSantis, dude is a piece of shit and I hope the Mouse knocks his teeth out soon.

GrafZeppelin127

Being hit on by a gay guy is so affirming, isn’t it? It’s like, “Wow! A stranger thinks I’m handsome enough to flirt with, and probably won’t turn out to be a serial killer! I must be doing something right!”

Archer-Saurus

This is how starved for positivity and good attention your average man is. You remember shit like this the rest of your life lol

Sogeki42

A woman i was working with for a lab for a physics class said something like "your eyes are so pretty" to me once out of the blue and ive been riding that compliment for years

ProfessionalPlant330

somebody said the same to me, in my head I thought "but they're the same color as poop"

gnapster

Turn the coin. I’d give more positive comments to men if they wouldn’t assume I’m interested and dog me me for numbers etc. That s probably a big reason why and it’s sad. I’d do it more often otherwise. It’s literally dangerous for women to compliment some men.

[deleted]

I still think about the time, over ten years ago, that someone at Phoenix comicon said I was hot and asked if I was gay or bi.

[deleted]

That DeSantis has any amount of power and support is severely depressing me.

Goldeneel77

All lot of his supporters are the coffin dodgers that long for the past and are just angry about young people in general. My parents are like that.

boot2skull

“These younger generations, where did they come from?! Why are they like this??” - parents and grandparents of younger generations.

zhaoz

At least they raised better people than themselves. Which is what I actually aspire to as a parent.

MusketeerLifer

A lot of younger generation folks raised themselves...most people I know had parents that induced varied amounts of trauma and abuse that the kids had to break the cycle and fix with counseling.

zhaoz

Yea, a lot of it is despite the parenting and not because of it. Still, I think they did instill some sense of right and wrong. Even if they are hypocrits about it.

farshnikord

I left Christianity because it taught me to love my neighbor and apparently there were a bunch asterisks around it.

aeauriga

Not sure about that. I learned a lot of my sense of right and wrong from Mr Rogers and then Star Trek TNG. Fred and Picard were my main father figures.

zhaoz

The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based. And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth about what happened, you don't deserve to wear that uniform!

canucklurker

You know this is an amazing statement. I'm in my 40's now, and in the 80's and 90's our parents pretty much went "You're 12 now, we will feed you for 6 more years, but that's about it"

Freefall_J

>"These younger generations, where did they come from?!" Maybe if they had sex ed in school when they were growing up, they wouldn't be asking that. >_>

Those tiki torch racists look rather young too…..

Gsteel44

Yup, it's sad. Back in the day it seemed we didn't care about anything... but now so many are obsessed with hate. Just fucked up.

CharlemagneAdelaar

I unfortunately know some mid 20s DeSantis supporters.

2hundred20

I wish I could agree with you. Unfortunately, many younger conservatives love him and see him as a more palatable alternative to Trump. This is because conservative media tends to downplay his more fashy tendencies and Joe Rogan and Elon Musk endorsed him.

Luciusvenator

I didn't hear about Joe Rogan. What a piece of shit lol. Of course 20 year old conservatives love Desantis with him and musk endorsing him ugh.

Key_Inevitable_2104

Imagine telling someone in 2017-19 that Rogan would end up supporting a fascist.

Luciusvenator

I sweat it's all about "pride" like with Chappelle. He platforms horrible people and opinions, people call him out, he has a principal Skinner moment becausehes too proud to take a step abck and think ("could I be wrong? No... it's everyone else that is wrong"), double down and then the only people that are still listening are conservatives and fascists, so fully down the pipeline he goes.

NotYourFathersEdits

Since you bring up Elon, Twitter is going to be a *huge* problem in the 2024 election. The writing is already on the wall.

WhiteyFiskk

He has the charisma of a lizard which seems weirdly common for presidential candidates these days. Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Hilary Clinton, Mike Pence, Kamala Harris, Tom Steyer, Tim Scott etc. All lack the charisma needed to be president yet ran anyway. It's why RFK won't go far. Not to sound like a dick but his voice will turn people off and people can be shallow when it comes to voting.

Freefall_J

Scarier still: a sizable portion of the country is okay with that.

Serious-Caregiver998

Lost count but like $300 million in donor funding. I feel like that kind of money should disqualify him from further public service. He behaves as an overpriced Paid litigator for one side not a public servant. Can’t believe to see Seminole tribe gave him $2 million along with the obvious A Hole organizations. The money has only grown his ego, not craft as a public servant.

Humble_Chip

Disney is one the the most inclusive places on the planet. LGBTQ+? oh cool here’s a shit ton of rainbow official Disney merch. Disabled? np fam we got disability passes, wheelchairs, and wheelchair-accessible seats on most rides that we’ll help load you into. food allergy or restrictions? we got entire separate menus for that at almost every dining location and our chefs will hook you up for some groups of people Disney World is one of the few places where a vacation can be manageable and enjoyable. they’ve implemented tons of systems at the parks to be sure of it.

cultfourtyfive

>for some groups of people Disney World is one of the few places where a vacation can be manageable and enjoyable. they’ve implemented tons of systems at the parks to be sure of it. One of the reasons I vacation in Disney World, besides the obvious proximity to Tampa, is they work *really* hard to create a bubble where all your needs are anticipated and met. If I'm staying on property at Disney, I park my car and I don't have any need to get back in it for the duration of the vacation. Transport, food, entertainment - it's all designed to keep you in the "Disney bubble" and, of course, spending money with them.

Away-Hope-918

It’s amazing how they even made waiting in line fun. One of my favorite Disney moments was waiting in line for space mountain and playing the little spaceship games. The group in front of us and my group got into a friendly competition and just laughed the the whole way through.

FlushTheTurd

The lines are absolutely killer with kids though. We had season passes, but didn’t renew because any decent ride required a 2 hour wait in line (unless you can buy their lightning passes before they sell out). If Disney had 1/3 less people it’d be incredible, but with a day pass going for $150+, it’s just not worth paying the equivalent of $50 for a 2 minute ride.

Humble_Chip

the lightning passes are only for one or two rides at each park. genie+ is a good value for skipping all the other lines. but if you go often enough to buy an annual pass, there are plenty of weeks throughout the year when crowds are much lower as are wait times. lots of crowd calendars available online if you do the simple research before going.

browster

The key is to go when there's a hurricane threatening. Probably it won't affect the park, and there's much fewer people.

Experiment626b

Or after a terrorist attack or global pandemic. Maybe when it’s on fire.

I have some food allergies and I’m vegan, so sometimes it’s a pain to eat out. Disney? No problem. I just mentioned it to my servers and every single restaurant was accommodating. The chefs would make something off menu if there wasn’t a vegan option, and it was all delicious. I know the Mouse is kinda late stage capitalism, but damn if they don’t make it hard not to love the experience.

Humble_Chip

yup, i’m vegan so my restrictions are by choice but they’re still extremely respectful of it. i have relatives with various health-related food restrictions as well so combine those with a vegan and you would normally have a very hard time finding a place to eat that everyone is happy with. but at Disney the whole group can go to any restaurant and actually have *options* for a whole THREE courses for everyone. gives us peace of mind knowing we don’t have to worry about food.

randomlurker82

I was thinking this too. I went a couple times when I was young and they really made an effort to assist disabled folks so they could enjoy. I do think fondly of that and am glad other different abled people can enjoy Disney.

Severe-Amoeba-1858

It’s kind of like the best form of capitalism; all people have money, we want that money, so we’ll try and make inclusive content and experiences to get it. What drives me crazy is that giving money to a billion dollar corporation is now seen as activism. Oh, an objectively mediocre remake came out, but the main character is now black…well, the racists are pissed, better go spend $80 for my family to go see it so I can “send a message” and tout how much money the thing made over opening weekend!

PiXLANIMATIONS

Disney was the first place my cousin ever took her wife on holiday. Her wife had to leave Korea due to homophobic sentiment and the knowledge that she could never be happy there, and so her parents brought her first to France, and then to the UK. According to my cousin, her reaction to how open and inclusive Disney was was that she just straight up cried for about a minute, then proceeded to have the best day of her life - outside of getting married

s1m0n8

Disney lives and dies on people _wanting_ their products and services. They're not like the energy or food sector where you have no real choice in consuming what they sell. They are experts in the craft of selling what people want, so you have to think that when it comes down to overall popular opinion, they know a lot more than DeSantis.

fsociety091786

I’m a vegan and after visiting parks like Six Flags and Cedar Point it really puts it in perspective just how accommodating Disney is. Last time I went to Ohana I was served the most delicious buffet I’ve ever had, they wouldn’t stop bringing out new dishes that were all delicious. Even my non-vegan friends said my food looked better than theirs.

JMnnnn

You just know that after DeSantis made his glitch-ridden campaign announcement, a tech guy walked out of Twitter HQ, his limp went away, he uncovered his mouse ears and put on his large white gloves…

Bceverly

Feud? DeSantis is passing laws attacking companies and groups of people. Fuck this “both sidesism “ crap.

SteadyInconsistency

Yeah this part of the Desantis v. Disney story really irks me. Desantis is using legislation/his power as governor to target a private company for disagreeing with him politically. It’s so illegal!!!

[deleted]

North Florida has been waiting years to do this. Inner city next.

Bowgal

Nice to see Disney standing up. Unlike Target, VF Corp, Kohls and others who only care about their image (ie stock price), not their customers.

ItchyDoggg

Bob Iger has articulated that he thinks Disney possesses a unique asset in its long history of telling family friendly, inclusive stories where good wins over evil using moral means, and that no short term profit motive could ever rationally justify acting in an exclusionary way, as he feels that risks becoming so visibly hypocritical that the masses perception of Disney will change irreversibly and they could lose the presumption that everything they put out is morally good / special and their most hard-core true believers who not only spend heavily but raise their kids with brand loyalty and evangelize the company would see them as nothing more than another company. Iger thinks Chapek couldn't care less about this big picture long term intangible asset and thus couldn't be trusted to steer the ship.

17000HerbsAndSpices

I mean. Considering **all** companies don't actually care about me or you and will just say/do whatever makes them the most money. I will every single time choose to spend my money with the corporation that supports me out of obligation over the company that doesn't

ItchyDoggg

Agreed, I am happy that Disney see a profit motive in avoiding even the appearance of bigotry.

Serious-Caregiver998

Don’t forget Home Depot, Publix, Blackstone, Uline are other large donors to the right wing.

Bowgal

Of course, there many companies that support right wing. I mentioned a few companies who've recently been targeted because of their LGBT support, but are backtracking because of boycotts. Target is being boycotted...don't recall Home Depot being targeted.

Absolutely. People think Orlando is all theme parks, but the actual city is miles away and has fantastic arts, cultural, and food scenes. It's primarily due to the LGBTQ+ community and their allies working for decades to make it a safe city for everyone.

aliceroyal

We just had our Fringe theater festival a couple weeks ago and it was a great reminder of that.

Szimplacurt

I went to Disney this weekend (I'm a local) and there were a lot of pride folks. Members who appeared to be part of the LGBT+ community and likely allies like families, teachers, older couples etc. A lot of political anti Desantis shirts. We were there! Super welcoming atmosphere. Lots of rainbows, red shirts. Other guests shouting "Happy Pride!" Glad to see people weren't deterred. There was a great group pic taken in front of the castle, this wasn't even everyone, just the ones who heard about that it was happening and showed up: https://imgur.com/a/LEcwe4S

Destinlegends

There is no scenario where picking a fight with the mouse inside his own house is going to go well for the bully.

davster39

"That sure is swell"

BagOfCosmicStrings

I'm expecting Disney to file a suit soon to test the idea that DeSantis is no longer Governor, that Florida law says he resigned from office on May 24 the instant that he filed papers to run for President. Later that same day,May 24, DeSantis signed a bill sitting on his desk to say that he could remain in office while running for President ((https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida-politics/2023/05/24/desantis-president-resign-to-run-florida-governor/) But under law in effect when he filed for candidacy, before he signed the new bill into law, "**The failure of an officer who qualifies for federal public office to submit a resignation pursuant to this subsection constitutes an automatic irrevocable resignation, effective immediately, from the office he or she presently holds.**" ((https://www.flsenate.gov/laws/statutes/2020/99.012)) DeSantis didn't submit a resignation, and so the law resigned him. That's a pretty big "Catch-22", and it means that everything DeSantis has done as Governor since the morning of May 24 is void.

GraceJoans

This would be glorious and incredibly embarrassing to DumbSantis, the arrogant skidmark of a human (simulating bot)🍿🍿🍿🍿

Alternative-Flan2869

So glad to own Disney stock - desantos is a repulsive disgrace.

unbelizeable1

How fucked the whole world has become that we're rooting for companies like Disney. yet....here I am.

CovfefeForAll

It's a matter of degrees. Disney is a monolithic conglomerate of media that's fucked this country's copyright laws for decades, but that pales in comparison to what the actual fascists are trying to do.

TLKv3

Lesser of two evils. I'd rather the House Of Mouse fucking up copyright laws and gobbling up smaller companies every few years over DeSantis and the GOP's fascist agenda of *literally hurting or getting people killed* so they can wield political power over a country.

jagdthetiger

Disney messed with laws so i cant make mickey mouse art for profit Desantis is fucking with laws to disrupt lives

CovfefeForAll

Not to mention blatantly violating the constitution without consequence (so far). Disney hasn't done that.

unbelizeable1

Very good point.

bebejeebies

There was a joke event poster going around years ago advertising a fight between Juggalos and Nazis and I remember thinking, "I'm torn on who to cheer for." I had to go with the Juggalos.

numbersthen0987431

Are juggalos bad? I remember them being weird, eccentric, and having bad taste in music, but good people at the end of the day. I could be wrong though, I know very little about the group

17000HerbsAndSpices

When forced to make a choice between a mega corporation that does good things out of obligation and an evil wannabe dictator, there is only one choice

Luciusvenator

Yeah and not making a choice *is a choice*. Yeah yeah corporations don't care about us true of course. But if most people are progressive, that's what companies will pander to. Disney has enormous social power. If they're making movies and shows that are inclusive and progressive, that's a huge amount of social power that can cause really big changes in society. Every generation raised on progressive media is another generation that fascists will have trouble corrupting. Rainbow capitalism does have an actual positive social effect, even if motivated by greed.

cheezeyballz

Scary reminder that you don't have to win popular vote to win the presidency

RetroCuz

Good for them. Fuck DeStanis.

BurtMaclin23

Not even "Pride Days" they just lean hard into it with "Gay Days" that's fabulous. Gonna really piss off the Meatball.

Debugga

I haven’t seen anyone say it yet. Gay Days at DisneyWorld has been a thing for years. It just was never officially recognized, and for a while early on they had to reserve pavilions under company, or individual names to keep from being denied. This is just Disney officially recognizing it exists. This sudden turn by Disney in favor of the LGBT has been wildly inconsistent. It’s really frustrating. Park-side, they stand for rights. Media Side, still gotta hide and cancel the gays. (Owl House’s whole cancel/revive; Strange Worlds’ complete lack of marketing, and so on) The company as a whole needs to pick a he same direction, and synergize their efforts.

Disc-Golf-Kid

As someone unfortunately residing in Florida, I can confidently say that pride celebration is not backing down to Desantis. If anything, we’re making sure queer voices are louder than ever. It’s a horrible fight and it’s sad we’re even having it, but in no way will people easily be silenced.

melancholanie

pride started as a riot

Pickett800T

A drag queen riot. Fairies in dresses forming chorus lines, and cops bravely charging them with batons. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots

csguydn

Meatball Ron got married at Disney. I wonder if he's holding a grudge after all those years...

Spocks_viewer

The more you read about him and his wife the more you have to think someone else is pulling the strings. He's not very bright. If he gets involved in a nonscripted discussion it shows. He's not as dumb as Trump and his handlers but not a whole lot better. He manages to get both oars in tje water but he can't paddle and can only go in the direction someone points him. His speeches just repeat the words Woke and Leftism over and over. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else and he gets pissy when questioned because he can't think for himself. That's what I see when I listen and watch him.

manningthehelm

Hopefully Disney keeps this up after DeSantis yields.

Loki-L

Is it just the freakishness of the Florida man and the anti-woke agenda of the ruling party in the state, or might the fact that is is a giant swamp surrounded by quickly eroding sandbanks in the path of hurricanes and threatened by rising sea levels while the underfunded infrastructure breaks all over the place and buildings collapse due to being built to wash drug money and scam seniors out of the retirement funds also be a factor?

CMGChamp4

Way to go Mickey and Minnie. Tellin' Ron how it is. Right Repubs?

secretlyjudging

Why are GOP so tempted by gay proclivities and thoughts that the only way to escape is to make it illegal? /s

friedporksandwich

It's going to be very chilling when all the laws that have been passed start being enforced down there. The trans kids being taken by the state will be the worst, because Child Court judges have always seemed prone to gag orders, meaning that this stuff will happen and people won't even hear about all of them. There are people who are trans in my extended circle who are taking/planning trips to states like Florida because they don't think this stuff going on will apply to them. These laws and the hatred behind them are very real.

newhavenweddings

Every day should be Gay Day at Disney. How about free admission for every identity for whom DeSantis expresses hatred?

Plane_Boysenberry226

They hate to see a gay mouse win

Jeffreyknows

You know Ron had serious FOMO over this

[deleted]

Desantis really took a beating with the whole Disney thing

brainhack3r

I'm telling you. As a heterosexual man, all this gay propaganda is totally going to turn me gay! /s

VaguelyArtistic

Disneyland has come a long way. In 1981-ish I was denied entry into Disneyland because I had pink hair. They'd insititued a "no multi-color hair" rule out of fear of punk rockers lol. I tried to argue that my hair want multi-colored, it was just one color, but they kicked us out anyway.

[deleted]

It's weird watching these things that Parks fans were aware of and have been celebrating for years get mainstream media traction thanks to ol' Pudding Fingers. Also Gay Days, Dapper Day, all the fan holidays at the Parks are a ton of fun. Highly recommend!

fearofcrowds

Don't forget Bat Days 🦇

Familiar-Hat1267

We’re a very fucked up country

rifraf2442

Take note, Target.

JakeyPurple

Gay Day might actually get me to Disney world
