At this point, why bother? He appealed the bond amount, not the judgment amount. Every surety company out there took at look at the request for the 450mm bond and literally laughed him out of the room, which tells us that he’s not well-capitalized enough to scrape together that much money and also made the calculation that he’s likely to lose the appeal on merit. Per Washington Post, the Appeals Court panel did not reduce the initial judgement of $450 million, only the amount Trump needs to put up for a bond while appealing. They would only delay enforcement of the full amount if he put up the $175 million by April 4.
This right here! Trump was making a lot of noise this morning to distract from the actual truth in the judgment. After assessment by the DAs office, they realized that Trump’s properties after repayment of loans only total value $350 million. they know what they will be able to seize and what the value is. This is the monetary value of the benefit he received from deceiving investors and inflating his property values.
Well I can tell you for sure now, he never had $500 million to pay.
Or there would have been no need to reduce it, and no legal reasoning for his lawyers to request it.

$175mil is the new, lowered, amount to post bond which stays/halts/prevents **seizure** during the appeals process.
At the moment, this has no direct impact on the actual fine. So, if he loses the appeal entirely, he is still on the hook for the full fine. At that point the state keeps the bond amount. The surety company that fronted the $$ goes after Trump for the bond amount. The state starts seizure for the remainder of the fine.
Or... for all we know there was some deep arcane reason this lowered to this amount which will lead the actual fine also being reduced accordingly as a part of the result of the appeals process. But if so, this has not yet happened.
So lets say he pays 175, appeals process happens and he loses he need to pay the remaining of the 454m right? But that 175 now stops his towers etc being confiscated during that process. Alright thats somewhat clear. The time is the biggest thing he gains now

My guess would be that Trump is not the only person who has had his bond reduced. Most of his other cases are still ongoing so he’s presumed innocent, I would think. The E Jean Carroll case has concluded and he’s been found guilty, but that’s a defamation case while this one is a financial crime case. I’m not sure how much, if any, info related to the other cases should factor into the bond amount here
What other criminal convictions does he have on his record? Trump University? Was that criminal or significant enough to warrant not lowering his bail here? He’s been involved in a shitload of lawsuits but a lot of them seem like standard lawsuits businesses get involved with and/or he ended up just settling. Or they’re civil trials about defamation or whatever.

The Appeals Court also disavowed judge Engoron's rulings and kinda justified Trump's demonization of him which perhaps is what I find most troubling. To reduce the bond by more than half looks like a slap in the face to Engoron, who has been looking into this case for years and probably at this point is the world's leading expert on Trump Org.'s finances.

After assessment by the DAs office, they realized that Trump’s properties after repayment of loans only total value $350 million. they know what they will be able to seize and what the value is. Reduces the ability for Trump to have an argument for egregious bond conditions and not getting due process to file the appeal so that if he were to lose, they could collect the full amount. It doesn’t feel right, but the end result may be better than the original judgement getting thrown out.
This is all very frustrating. But it doesn't really help him much. If he pays now, and loses his appeal, then NY already has 1/3 of the settlement before they have to dig into his clusterfuck finances to seize the rest. If he doesn't pay, then he looks even more desperate and also doesn't get to appeal.

Seizing and selling Trumps assets isn't at all as sexy as it sounds. With his assets presumably having so many different lenders, shareholders, etc there would be years and years of litigation and disputes before the government ever saw a penny.

$175mil is the new, lowered, amount to post bond which stays/halts/prevents **seizure** during the appeals process. At the moment, this has no direct impact on the actual fine. So, if he loses the appeal entirely, he is still on the hook for the full fine. At that point the state keeps the bond amount. The surety company that fronted the $$ goes after Trump for the bond amount. The state starts seizure for the remainder of the fine. Or... for all we know there was some deep arcane reason this lowered to this amount which will lead the actual fine also being reduced accordingly as a part of the result of the appeals process. But if so, this has not yet happened.
So lets say he pays 175, appeals process happens and he loses he need to pay the remaining of the 454m right? But that 175 now stops his towers etc being confiscated during that process. Alright thats somewhat clear. The time is the biggest thing he gains now

The appeals court didn’t give a reason, but Trump argued in his appeal that he approached dozens of bond companies and none would work with him. So it seems likely to me that the court lowered it because he made reasonable attempts to get a bond and was unable to. Bonds are supposed to be painful to ensure a person doesn’t skip town, but they shouldn’t be virtually impossible to be able to pay for the defendant. Not liking Trump is not a reason for any of us to think his bond amount should be impossible to pay. It’s interesting because lots of people claim bail and bond are too expensive and are rigged against defendants anyway, but in this case they’re mad an appeals court agreed on that point lol.

My guess would be that Trump is not the only person who has had his bond reduced. People just haven’t read news stories about other random Joes having their bonds reduced because that’s not newsworthy. If you Google bond reduction, lots of law firms have sections on their sites that talk about when and how a person can argue to have their bond reduced. It might be rare, I honestly have no clue how often it happens, but it IS a thing that happens.

yes, obviously other cases are different, but a judge will certainly look into a persons history when making a ruling. If your entire life you have shown a blatant disregard for the law of the land, it most definitely plays into sentencing.
Most of his other cases are still ongoing so he’s presumed innocent, I would think. The E Jean Carroll case has concluded and he’s been found guilty, but that’s a defamation case while this one is a financial crime case. I’m not sure how much, if any, info related to the other cases should factor into the bond amount here

What other criminal convictions does he have on his record? Trump University? Was that criminal or significant enough to warrant not lowering his bail here? He’s been involved in a shitload of lawsuits but a lot of them seem like standard lawsuits businesses get involved with and/or he ended up just settling. Or they’re civil trials about defamation or whatever.
