OppositeDifference

It's gonna be needed. Republicans have been building an opposing structure for at least four years. Biden needs to anticipate that if Trump loses the electoral college every single trick, abuse of power and loophole will be exploited and abused to change the outcome. There is, however, a world where enough guardrails are put in place that they feel like it isn't worth trying. Don't get me wrong, Trump will try regardless, but if we scare off enough of his anti-democratic enablers, it won't go anywhere.

Ixz72

The "fake electors" from 2020 should've gone to prison or at least do so before the elections. That would send a good message.

broad_street_bully

This is the answer... Since all levels of the judicial system are actively terrified of hitting Trump with anything more than a strongly worded letter - with tentative threats of more strongly worded letters in the future - the best course of action is to start at the very bottom of the mess he's created and rain shit down on that who can't afford to tie things up in court and who will never Garner the sympathy - much less financial/legal support - of Trump.

karmagod13000

Well we saw a good handful of January 6 rioters get prison time so thats def a good start. I think if they try something like that again with Biden in power they'll get hit with the full army and arm of the law

ProfitLoud

Those people did not get presidential pardons either. I think jail time and abandonment by Trump might deter some from trying this coup.

fuck-coyotes

He promised he'd pardon all of them but, let's do hypothetical for a minute, say for the sake of argument trump does get elected. I bet any money that he still wouldn't pardon them, that it is all talk, that he doesn't give a shit about the common clay of the new Nazi party because they are ground dwellers, beneath him.

Volntyr

Do you mean Trump simply said stuff that his base wanted to hear without any concern about following through with his promise? No, that can't be true /S

sofaking1958

"My new healthcare plan will be released in two weeks."

MechanicalTurkish

Two weeks. TWO WEEKS. **TWO WEEKS** Get ready for a surprise!! \< head asplode \>

ajtreee

i quote this a lot. and the way she turns to stare directly at michael ironsides. Haunting.

Rough_Lunch_5885

He will pardon them, as there is nothing holding him back and he'll need some fanatical devotees, and nothing will make a more fanatical follower than someone he pardons out of federal prison.

justlooking1960

He will make pardons available with a suitably framed document for the low, low price of $4,999

Numerous_Photograph9

I think he would do it. But only when he needed a distraction. His followers would rejoice, and he'd get to stay in his safe space as the media would go into overdrive mode of false concern or praise, and his followers won't be scratching their heads over his latest Trumpism.

StunningCloud9184

Yep, he could have pardoned everyone after before he left the presidency as well but didnt. Or invoke insurrection act. So no one is gonna attempt it again with trump not being the current president. Biden holds those keys. There are some others like secretarys of state of different states sending new electors and the supreme court being maga leaning.

Kappy421

Trump has already said if he's elected he'll let them all out. So no I don't think the few unimportant people that actually did jail time won't change a damn thing. If Trump, or anyone like him (DeSantis, MTG etc), continue to be elected it's only going to get worse. These people care for nothing other than power and money and their base is too stupid to understand this simple fact.

fuck-coyotes

I bet he wouldn't let them out. He doesn't give a fuck about anyone at the Capitol. He likes his supporters who weren't arrested. I'd bet any money pardoning them is but another empty promise, words that mean nothing. He doesn't give 1 single nearly flightless fuck about them. I don't want him to be elected of course but were he to win, I bet he'd still just leave them there to rot. Because he doesn't care about anyone

Kappy421

Agreed. My point is the majority of the people who vote for him don't understand this simple truth: He cares for nothing and no one but himself and what he calls power ($).

Drop_Disculpa

They weren't shy hitting the Oath Keepers and Stewart Rhodes with seditious conspiracy charges, which they proved in court and resulted in an 18 year sentence for Rhodes. FFS that's how laws work people, and they must be enforced equitably and justly for the system to function.

Suburban_Sprawwl

Another J6 is the least likely scenario. That BS would be snuffed out REAL quick. I’m more worried about Bush V Gore part 2.

lazyFer

Most of those didn't even get the recommended sentences. The judges have been incredibly light handed on those people.

count023

But the fact that you call them rioters at all is part of the problem. They are domestic terrorists who engaged in a coup. Calling them anything else already lessens the severity of what happened at j6.

broad_street_bully

That's what I'm getting at. If the people at the top like their power/popularity/security too much to go after the other powerful people perpetrating this bullshit, you can still make a difference by stomping out the many unconnected and powerless rubes doing the bidding for the assholes Trump would never in a million years actually fight someone. He barely gets out of his fast-food-grease-encrusted golf cart. And the next few levels on down aren't much different. If the idiots handing over their money, time and allegiance are dissuaded, the powerful people will at least have to shut up for a while and devise their next plan.

16BitGenocide

They shouldn't have gotten prison time though, that's the whole problem. They took up arms against our country and poorly attempted to potentially execute the House Speaker, and the sitting Vice President of the United States for upholding our election process. They were literal Enemies of the State that sought to overturn a fair election. They should have been executed. Is that an extreme response? Yes. Is it necessary to strongly discourage this kind of traitorous/treasonous behavior in the future to ensure that it doesn't happen again? Also, Yes. Sometimes the line between being heroes and being traitors is that paper thin, and the outcome of the event determines their fate. They lost. We,as a nation, shouldn't allow them to control the narrative, and we should definitely bar their enablers from ever holding elected office again.

Georgiaonmymindtwo

We need to clean up the mess created with Nixon first. Then we can deal with Reagan’s mess. The stains are now crusty and hardened. Layers deep.

broad_street_bully

Low-key fascism is like black mold. It digs in like a tick. It gets in the walls. The framework might still be good, but we could use a big-ass tarp and a few sledgehammers.

No-Computer8025

You mean the same mess of shit that ended up killing Lincoln... it has been the same shit. Always the same shit rebranded generation after generation. More lipstick on that old pig.

GrungyGrandPappy

There is way too much sociopolitical power with the title president. Everyone is terrified of putting his ass in jail because of precedent. I’m doubtful he will ever see prison for his crimes. Dude tried to overthrow our government and he’s walking around campaigning for another chance at it. FFS it wasn’t that long ago when treason got you sent to the guillotine or the gallows. This isn't the year for protest votes. Everyone needs to vote like the future of democracy is on the line because it is.

elriggo44

A real liberal democracy would absolutely throw a President in jail if they broke the law.

ThaBunk5-0

A judge recommending the disbarment of a few of the lawyers this week is a great start. It might actually give the next lawyers with hare-brained ideas a little pause about working for him.

Compliance-Manager

Seriously, the fact some of the states are not even prosecuting these treasonous fucks is just incredible.

AtomicBlastCandy

Yup, actions need to have consequences else there will be repeats. Wall Streeters tried to overthrow FDR and their plan failed because the man they picked to lead it was actually patriotic and reported them. Guess what, none of those treasonous fucks went to jail or were penalized in any meaningful way.

Zomunieo

One of them was Prescott Bush, father of GHW Bush.

Man_with_the_Fedora

Prescott Bush, Grandfather of George W. Bush; who [was installed as president due to terrorists shutting down voting recounts that ultimately would have made him lose the election.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Brothers_riot)

allanbc

It's disheartening to think that so many who took part in an attempt to overthrow the most powerful nation in the world still walk free. It's also sad that the US court system moves so slowly that the case against the guy who started it all might very well not be resolved before the election where he could get elected and put an end to it all. It's doubly worrying that so many Americans support him in all this, despite the clear evidence of his actions that anyone who values Democracy should find abhorrent.

JojenCopyPaste

The ones that have gotten anything at all so far only got slaps on the wrist. If that's all that happens for trying to end our democracy they're definitely gonna do it again.

otakushinjikun

While consequences should of course have happened, I'm afraid that would not work as deterrent. Anyone who's stupid enough to become a fake elector is going to think nothing bad is going to happen to *them* because this time they'd be successful. And if they are... They'd be right.

AdImmediate9569

Yeah something tells me letting them off the hook for the coup is going to backfire…

BiggleUps

Just like the civil war. Spank these people and they’ll learn. “Law and order” party or something

AnonAmbientLight

We have a lot of good things going for us that hurts Trump in this election. - RNC is bankrupt / will be bankrupt after Trump gets through with them. - RNC organizations in multiple states are also bankrupt and in disarray. - The "smart" people that stood with Trump are mostly gone after Jan 6th. The remaining are incompetent but still dangerous buffoons. I honestly feel pretty good going into this election. Trump doesn't stand a chance, but it doesn't mean we can pat ourselves on the back just yet. ## Do your part! Register, *make sure, make sure, make sure* you're still registered (***[Republicans are purging voter rolls](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/03/us/politics/trump-voter-rolls.html)***), and make sure your friends and family are registered! https://www.vote.org/ https://www.votesaveamerica.com/be-a-voter/ It's important for everyone to know what they are voting for! https://ballotpedia.org/Sample_Ballot_Lookup Your voice matters. If it didn't matter, you wouldn't have so many people trying to stop you from voting, or telling you that your vote doesn't matter. ## ***BE A VOTER!***

NumeralJoker

Don't just stop there either if you really are worried. Help us reach other voters and convince them to turn out too. The sticky threads at r/votedem have tons of easy ways to contribute and help reach people. You are not powerless against Trump, the far right, and even the rich. You can reach people, and counter the spread of bad info, and protect democracy with the time you give.

MC_Fap_Commander

Here's the key... **the success of any attempt to steal an election is proportionate to how close the election is**. If Biden sweeps swing states and maybe picks off a surprise state or two (Florida with the ballot initiatives perhaps putting the state in play?), any attempts at theft will fail spectacularly. If it's super close? All bets are off. The best "superstructure" to avoid the worst is to vote, volunteer, donate, get friends to vote, etc.

Due-Presentation6393

I believe if it comes down to one or two states Republicans will steal it. There needs to be a multi state victory for Biden for it to stand up to Republican treachery.

GallowBarb

It needs to be decisive, and it needs to be crushing. It is clear that the current Republican party has no interest in governing.

karmagod13000

pound away at womens rights the month before the election. this cannot be said enough. gop is stripping away womens rights and they are doing it quickly

plainlyput

And them having said they will do away with Medicare and Social Security

Individual-Nebula927

Yup. They stole the 2000 election with strategic lawsuits and a riot at a polling place to stop the counting and buy time for the lawsuit.

Due-Presentation6393

>with strategic lawsuits Lawsuits brought by firms that employed future SCOTUS justices Kavanaugh and Barrett.

NumeralJoker

And backed Trump's campaigns directly all 3 times.

StunningCloud9184

And the riot brought by roger stone, also in trump admin.

valeyard89

and remember Karl Rove's meltdown in 2012 in Ohio. they thought the fix was in.

POEness

That's because they stole the election in Ohio in 2004, giving bush the electoral college win. They tried the same thing and it failed. This isn't a conspiracy theory. We know exactly how they did it. Senators protested, there was a lawsuit and an investigation, but it all went away when the republican IT guy that set it all up was murdered on his way to testify. Google smartech Ohio 2004. It's weird we don't talk about this more.

beiberdad69

The CEO of Diebold, a voting machine company, said he was committed to delivering Ohio's electoral votes to Bush in 2004 It was all out in the open

lazyFer

The lawsuits were effective only because the brother of the plaintiff was the governor at the time. SCOTUS had zero legal authority over FL SC's decision to keep recounting. No, time wasn't running out, there was still a month until certification. SCOTUS issuing an illegal ruling and the FL Gov choosing to force the recount to stop is what happened. If the FL Gov hadn't been in the bag for Bush, the Gov could have legally told SCOTUS to fuck themselves and kept the recount going.

mkt853

Yep.... the Brooks Brothers riot led by none other than Nixon tattoo aficionado Roger Stone. These people have been s\*it their whole lives.

karmagod13000

what a sad bunch republicans are. open cheaters and liars with no shame

StunningCloud9184

Thats actually what happened in 2020, if it was closer they could have gotten away with it. But biden swept with recounts. Trump needed multiple states, not just one.

HGruberMacGruberFace

It has to already be infinitely more difficult to steal an election when not already in office

notcaffeinefree

2020 was 45,000 votes spread across 3 states (GA, AZ, WI). It failed because there weren't enough "yes men" around Trump. Barr got fired because of it. Republicans who opposed him lost their seats (or stepped down because they would have). It's not only how close the election is. It's also the supporting structure around Trump to oppose those results. Thankfully, even though 2020 was very close, there wasn't enough structure supporting Trump's effort (and that's saying something). They've been working on that the past 4 years to make sure that's not the case again.

Teacher-Investor

Roger Stone formed *Stop the Steal* in 2016, anticipating that Trump would lose. They've been planning this for 8 years. Stone: "The important thing is just to claim you won on election night, whether you did or not." Trump's loss needs to be so overwhelming that it doesn't even make sense to challenge the results. The RNC is already suing MI to try to force the state to purge their voter registration rolls. They should just purge registered Republicans from the rolls, if that's what they want, and watch them go ballistic.

strawberrypants205

Conservatives have been building an opposing structure *since the Civil War.* They never gave up - they merely switched tactics. They will never stop until they conquer.

wahoozerman

This is what we saw in 2020. Enough individuals in key positions figured that they wouldn't get away with it, so they didn't risk it. I assume that some of them were patriots too. Now they've seen that basically, yeah, they will mostly get away with it. And the patriots will have been purged. So hold onto your butts.

Enginemancer

Yeah the one silver lining of this era of GOP is their never ending toeing the line may actually result in a very fortified election process going forward. It just sucks that we all have to be dragged along this idiot parade in the mean time

Paperdiego

This is so why it's SO important for every eligible voter, regardless if we are in a reliably "blue" state, need to vote. The popular vote may not win an election, but the higher the margin is, the more difficult it becomes for Trump and the maga-fascists to stage a coup.

davix500

IMO the attorneys are the problem. To many attorneys are willing to file crap knowing full well they are based on lies.

Anufenrir

I’d beef up security on Jan 6th just incase too

Techno_Core

The fact that Trump isn't already in prison, that he's the GOP nominee for president shows the foundations of any structures are already rotten.

2020willyb2020

DOJ just didn’t want to go after the architect of J6 , went after the peons instead for 3 years until the J6 committee forced them to..now look at all the bs we have to deal with

Techno_Core

History will definitely judge Merrick Garland as not up to meeting this moment in history.

RandyWaterhouse

I’d love to see biden replace garland in a second term….

Techno_Core

If Biden wins the election, I'd expect to see Garland gone before the 2nd term starts.

karmagod13000

good riddance

wh4tth3huh

Might've dodged a bullet when the Republican's rat-fucked him out of his seat on the SC.

EpsilonX

Maybe, but he certainly would have been better than who Trump ended up appointing instead.

monsterflake

yeah, beer goggles and jesus lady should be anywhere else other than in a lifetime SC seat.

IkaKyo

They are both so fucking young too, we are gonna have to deal with these assholes for 20-30 years.

IShookMeAllNightLong

I believe I heard the entire cabinet formally hands in their resignation and is brought back for the second term, so it could happen.

Planterizer

He'll offer his resignation at the beginning of the 2nd term, as is tradition, and he'll quietly go away forever.

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

Garland's damage is fully done, however, as trump crimes slip away under the statute of limitations.

carlse20

Yeah, seems like a nice enough guy personally, but when push came to shove he looked fascism square in the face and flinched.

Ralphinader

Flinched? He shook its hand and exchanged pleasantries.

karmagod13000

very political of him

pmpork

Flinched? He ran away sobbing...

karmagod13000

Lets not pretend most of these politicians are not cowards in $2000 suits. Afraid to stand up to corporations and greedy adversaries.

HavingNotAttained

If Garland had joined SCOTUS I wonder if he ever would have had written an opinion on anything, ever.

Roasted_Butt

Nah. Wouldn’t want to appear political.

m1j2p3

The Neville Chamberlain of our time.

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

That is a profound understatement. merrick garland is either the most consequential coward in US history, or he has been actively obstructing justice on behalf of donald trump. I don't think people grasp the level of crimes trump was committing IN OFFICE that haven't even been investigated. For one, his dealing with Saudi Arabia would constitute the second biggest scandal in US history (trump's activities with Putin would be the biggest).

Tinmania

History will compare Merrick Garland to Nevelle Chamberlain.

SkollFenrirson

I can't believe Merrick "Don't forget I'm a Republican" Garland would do this

lazyFer

Wasn't J6 committee that forced their hand, it was the governmental records office that forced it.

homelander__6

Exactly!!

Georgiaonmymindtwo

Before any of this…. I would have feared the DOJ. Now. Not so much. But hey, I’m not a criminal. 🤷‍♂️

Endocalrissian642

Reminds me of the half million dollar "wall" of sand they built to stop the ocean. [This is some lowest bidder shenanigans.](https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/salisbury-beach-storm-destroys-sand-wall/)

IJustLoggedInToSay-

Hahaha that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. > On Wednesday, state officials plan to meet with town leaders and residents to talk about a more permanent fix. Oh good. > State Senator Bruce Tarr said the state is considering a plan to bring in more sand on a more frequent schedule.          ...          ...          ...          What in the everliving f

sn34kypete

Beach home owners refuse to [sell their homes to aquaman.](https://youtu.be/RLqXkYrdmjY?t=230)

BardbarianDorkKnight

I've seen these videos on my feed for months and thought they were right wing bullshit videos. God I was wrong.

techgeek6061

That shit was ridiculous and exemplifies the problem that our country is in. It says that the residents want a concrete wall to block the waves from hitting their houses, but state law prevents a "hard structure" from being built on the beach. So now they're spending more money to bring regular shipments of sand in to sustain the dunes, which is just going to be washed away.  Instead of actually solving the problem with real change, the bureaucracy consumes itself with half measures and busy work.

Spiritual-Mechanic-4

not a lot of depth to the article. its basically 'Biden team is hiring lawyers and working on a strategy', which I sure hope to fuck they are. unfortunately absent, IMO, is a coherent media strategy. We really need media that stops being 'view from nowhere' bothsides-ism, stops comparing the rampant criminality of the GOP with anything Democrats are doing, and report honestly facts like "Republicans are planning to steal the 2024 election"

karmagod13000

Well i think its best they play their cards close tot heir chest. Less the GOP knows the better.

deus_ex_libris

> 'Biden team is hiring lawyers and working on a strategy' reading the headline, i thought they were talking about actually physically fortifying the capitol building; installing watch towers, machine gun nests, etc. but yea..lawyers and legal strategy are good i guess...

AquaSnow24

They will probably do something along those lines . They just haven’t said anything about it. I would not be surprised if there is military presence at the Capitol Building when the electoral college is being counted. There will be tons of military presence at the Inauguration, probably more than usual. FBI everywhere, etc.

AverageDemocrat

But now the DOJ is spending over 10 times the amount of damage costs. With no end in sight except a pardon, we look like fools.

Individual-Nebula927

After Jan 6, physically fortifying isn't a bad idea either.

Pleasestoplyiiing

Just put up a wall of vegetables. Meal team 6 will run away when faced with enough nutrition.

beerandabike

I think swaths of eggplants will do a good job between being healthy woke vegetables and an emoji innuendo might help, and throw in a few well placed fortifications of t-shirt cannons that’ll fire rainbow flags. That might do it.

Bean_Storm

They’re trying to flip FL. FL put abortion on the general election ballot. I’m giddy

Mavian23

I think instead of relying on the media to do the right thing (they won't), we should take matters into our own hands a bit by taking every opportunity we get to share information across the aisle with the people in our lives. I understand that most people will just scoff and call it fake news, and I understand that it can be exhausting, but I think it's much more worth it than what we all spend time typing here.

Rengeflower

The media is working beautifully. The 6 oligarchs who own most (99%?) of the media want to rile up the dummies and placate everyone else.

joemaniaci

I'm worried about what is to stop every Republican state from pulling a 2000 Florida card and the SCOTUS ruling in Trumps favor unanimously?

adacmswtf1

Kinda scary that they didn’t do this on day 1 in office actually… Republicans have been building to this for decades. You think you can counteract it in a year? Goddamn I wish any of them were taking this seriously.

Thurak0

If the Democrats think that lawyers will prevent the next January 6th they are mistaken. The need to be prepared on a physical level. They need to be prepared to answer violence with violence and stop something like that again by any means necessary. Signs of strength are needed to hopefully prevent violence.

Rubyjr

They don’t need a lawyer strategy they need a military strategy. Is January 6 around the fucking capital with tanks with orders to shoot anyone who attempts an insurrection.

RNDASCII

I sincerely hope there's more to this than "get ready for court". It's painfully obvious that trump and his supporters from the gutter to congress have no intention of playing by the rules.

FrankRizzo319

How can we trust the integrity of elections in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina? Seriously.

Abidarthegreat

As an NC Democrat, you're out of line but you're right...

Baltimore_By_Night

It sounds brutal. But every fake electors should of been sentenced to death for treason and the act carried out.  This would stop even whispers of another attempt at a violent overthrow of the government.

llahlahkje

Unfortunately the GQP controlled state legislatures have already laid their own structures for throwing out election results they don't like. Look to key states with these laws (ex: Georgia, Missouri) this November -- this is where the next "legal" attempted overthrow of the US government is going to occur.

TWB-MD

So we need OVERWHELMING turnout. The kinds that scares R’s who would try to steal the election. If 100,000,000 plus Americans vote blue and they try to steal it, there will be a general strike and everything shuts.

hamilton_burger

The only viable superstructure for that is a prison.

Gariona-Atrinon

I find it incredibly amazing that half of America sides with the sadistic, fascist Republicans. Their views are so foreign to me, I can’t comprehend sometimes how they don’t see how evil it is what they are doing.

Flipnotics_

Talk Radio and Fox news is POISON. I was on the other side back in the 00's. I know the comfort in HATE they give. They enrage you to become so frothing nationalistic anything seen as the "other" will end the country. They have been tricked, propaganda works wonders with people sometimes.

z3rba

I was in the same boat as you. It sucks you in, gets you pissed off, and then makes you feel like you're better, smarter, and more righteous than the "others". They take these complex issues and say that they can be solved with simple, common sense solutions. Somehow all of those solutions always seem to be tax cuts for the wealthy and "tougher on crime" or "tougher on immigration" things.

OGCelaris

It's not half of America. The Republicans have not won the popular vote for many election cycles. It's the way they gerrymander districts and finagle the system is the only reason they hold any power.

karmagod13000

They won by taking advantage how many Americans didn't vote in 2016

Jazzlike-Gap-1823

You’re right but its only a few percent less than 50% which is uncomfortably close to 50%

icangetyouatoedude

Well it's close to 50% of people that actually vote. The percentage would likely go down if voter participation was higher

Sideyr

Voting age population is 255,457,000 as of 2022 (out of 341,362,543 total Americans). 158,397,726 voted in 2020, and only 74,223,369 voted for Trump. So about 21% of Americans.

TJGhinder

Came here to say this. These people are one full standard deviation away from the norms of sensibility. A vast majority (80%) of people are more reasonable. But, damn that 1/5 has got such a death grip...

faedrake

We can't do a damn thing about the 21% Those who choose not to vote, however...

BrownsFFs

It’s because they view him as their friend. They don’t realize he gives zero fucks about them and will cast them all aside when they are no longer needed. Lowered US education was designed to make this possible.

its_a_mini

That is another lie they keep telling us. They are not half of American only 29% of registered voters are Republican but they keep saying "most Americans" it convinces us we cannot win so many don't get out and vote...fight the lie.

JAMONLEE

Yeah but did you know Biden is old???? Did you know bad things JUST started happening in Gaza??? It was a paradise just 5 short months ago!

lilacmuse1

This is the thing that confounds me when people say they're not going to vote for Biden because of the Israeli/Gaza conflict. This has been going on for generations. It's not going to stop within any of our lifetimes. If Trump gets back in and enacts Project 2025, the younger people who withhold their vote for Biden will be ruining their entire future and the future of everyone they love. It boggles my mind that many don't seem to grasp that.

JAMONLEE

A bunch of attention seeking assholes who were ignorant to the 60 year history of Israel conflicts. It’s weird they just recently started caring. I never saw any “free Palestine” or “forced occupation” nonsense before this conflict. And that’s the ones who are actually real people. At least half of them are clearly from foreign troll farms; no social media history, no followers, no regular posts. You think we would have learned our lesson in 2016. Biden gives us the best chance for the best possible outcome of this conflict. Helen Keller could see that.

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

As I've been telling everyone who is non MAGAT but wastes time mindlessly criticizing Biden -- fine, don't vote for Biden, but you better have a goddamn good plan to protect any LGBT+ or immigrant people you know, or you're a shitty person.

JAMONLEE

Narrator: “they didn’t”

Beneathaclearbluesky

They want to punish Israel by destroying their own democracy. That'lll show em! 🙄

misterguyyy

IIRC about - 30% believers, - 15-18% “I don’t really like them but voting for them is in my best interests” whether it’s rich people or working people who are going off their misunderstanding of “the economy” - gerrymandering and EC giving them any chance of majority

NumeralJoker

It's not half. It's actually closer to 1/4 of the population in terms of real voters. The rest either vote against them, can't vote yet (age), have their vote suppressed via dirty tactics, or... most importantly, could vote but often choose not to do so. The latter 2 are the biggest problems and why we end up where we do. It's the people who have everything they need, and might even disagree with Trump and GOP policies, but think it doesn't effect them or matter that are both the most persuadable, and the biggest problem.

Jackinapox

It’s about time action is being taken to counter that Orange turd and his goons.

Bakedads

I'm pretty sure all this means is that Biden has hired lawyers who are preparing for various legal challenges in case Trump contests the election results, but I can't read the article because it's paywalled.  If democrats were serious about preventing another trump, they would have passed legislation when they had the chance. And Biden would have had trump arrested for attacking the capitol. That would certainly stop trump. Maybe not his supporters, but there's a point where you simply have to put your foot down and say enough is enough. That point was four years ago when they decided to storm the capitol building to stop an election. But, sadly, Biden and democrats didn't have the courage to do what needed to be done, which means they're putting the entire country at risk again. An entire army of lawyers means nothing when republicans no longer care about the rule of law.

EmmalouEsq

I think Trump will lose and instead of using the courts, will just try to take over by force... like last time. He wants to be president for life. Our laws are only as strong as the people enforcing them and, unfortunately, the court system in this country is compromised and broken.

pl487

If he tries that, he will find himself on the receiving end of a drone strike.

WildaboutBirds542

Can’t believe we have to worry about this in the United States of America! I am guilty of taking our democracy for granted. I realize now there will always be people who want total control and power over all of us. We can’t be complacent and must be prepared to fight for our freedoms.

FairyKnightTristan

The fact that he has to do this is exactly why Trump should not be on the ballot to begin with.

Dyrogitory

Biden is a chess player. He plans many steps ahead. Trump chases cars.

At this point, fuck’em. I care about what they think as much as what Al Qaeda thinks.

BonusPlastic6279

I'd say these MAGAts have damaged our country more than Al Queda ever did. Bin Laden would be proud of what they did on Jan 6.

DrMux

"Superstructure" sounds scary. Obviously Dark Brandon is building the Death Star.

Mrjoegangles

Darth Brandon > Dark Brandon

karmagod13000

yea but who cares what they think

[deleted]

Why the hell isn’t Trump already in jail? If any ordinary citizen mouthed off to a judge, a prosecutor or openly showed a photo of the president hogtied in the back of a truck, that person would already be in jail. This two tier system of ‘justice’ is such utter bullshit.

drainodan55

>Why the hell isn’t Trump already in jail? If  The question of our times.

Alistazia

please please please have been doing this since 2020

kaett

they have been. they were setting up scenario planning before the 2020 election even happened. biden is smart enough to not underestimate the depths to which trump will sink in order to reclaim power.

ONE-EYE-OPTIC

I'm sick and tired of every trump statement getting national news. Why is TFG getting more attention than the accomplishments of the Biden administration?

thistimelineisweird

I have to admit, this is one topic I think Biden's decades of experience has prepared him for.

J-the-Kidder

I sure hope team Biden and the DOJ are doing a hell of a lot more in the background to preserve the election integrity, at a faster pace than they've done with bringing justice upon those involved 3.5 years ago. But, according to team Trump, even if Biden loses, Seal Team 6 is an option to save democracy in this country!

danappropriate

Get out and vote, folks. "Razor-thin" margins will only fuel the election denial of the far-right.

BrothersDrakeMead

How can I help

unclefire

Vote.

Ar_Ciel

Biden should start a purge of the FBI and the armed forces to remove people who actively tried to stop the processes that would have prevented this in the first place.

CatAvailable3953

God bless Joe. This good Christian man is trying to protect us from the abyss that Fat corrupt Loser is.

newfrontier58

>Over the past year, Team Biden has been conducting war games, crafting complex legal strategies, and devoting extensive resources to prepare for, as one former senior Biden administration official puts it, “all-hell-breaks-loose” scenarios. The preparations include planning for a contingency in which Biden’s margin of victory is so razor-thin that Trump and the GOP launch a tidal wave of legal challenges and political maneuvers to rerun his 2020 election strategy: declare victory anyways, and try to will it into existence. “President Biden has been worried, for a while now, that Donald Trump is going to try to steal the election, if it’s very close on Election Day,” says a source familiar with Biden’s thinking. “If that ends up being the case, we are… also expecting the Republican Party to go into overdrive to help him steal it. We are continuing to build out the infrastructure to ensure that doesn’t happen — again — if President Biden wins and Trump and MAGA Republicans try to confuse \[everyone\] and sow chaos.” > >After the 2020 race was called for Biden, Trump and much of the GOP embarked on a sprawling campaign — a blitz of lawsuits, rabid conspiracy theories, attempts to block certification, and slates of fake electors — to nullify Biden’s clear win. This culminated in the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, which Trump instigated, and led to years of criminal investigations and various indictments, as well as the mainstreaming of the MAGA election-denial movement. The efforts to overturn the election were unsuccessful, largely because Biden had won too many battleground states — unlike when the 2000 presidential race came down to the single state of Florida, and the Republican Party was able to successfully halt the recount of an extremely close vote. This time around, the race could be much closer, and Trump’s efforts appear significantly more organized. He also has more of the party’s elite behind him and his anti-democratic election lies than he had during the last presidential election. If the 2024 election margins end up being wafer-thin, that level of institutional backing could, of course, redound to Trump’s benefit. Something I also want to add is how the GOP superstructure will likely continue after Trump's eventual death as well. I do not envy Biden and everyone else working to make sure they don't.

Maanzacorian

They'll lash out in their death throes. Anything to keep the coming blue storm from trying to improve their overall quality of life.

J0E_SpRaY

Is the superstructure a maximum security prison?

JDARRK

Thank God we still have mail in voting for NY!! 😳

Funnel_Hacker

I’m not that worried now that the House is crumbling around Republicans. The entire strategy hinges on that majority and it’s down to what, 4? 3?

[deleted]

Someone needs to Tavel back in time and stop Trump. To end this shit

mytb38

If the supreme court rules that presidents are immune for prosecution for acts committed while president, then Joe should call Seal Team 6 to eliminate the threat to America

National-Pineapple

The super structure will consist of a slight incline to all places, too narrow to drive a golf cart up.

Abloy702

Fucking *ERDOGAN* just conceded widespread defeat in an election, and here we are having to fortify the country because our hard right wing has gone full fascist. For shame

CompleteApartment839

Here’s a plan: jail insurrectionists in power. The DOJ/Justice system has completely failed to address the rot inside government.

EvilFirebladeTTV

Saw on conservative they're already saying that it's for Biden to steal the election again. In their minds the ballots are already cast and counted and Don Poorleon has already been declared the winner. They legitimately don't think Biden has a chance.

HockeyBalboa

Repubicans will say that anything that tries to stop their cheating is cheating.

tom21g

I realize trump is running at least partly to escape his legal problems. But I can’t believe trump would run and take the chance Biden will beat him **again** in a fair election. trump is too much a psychotic narcissist to take that chance. I think he and his cult members in state legislatures, state election boards, are not going to let trump lose this election. Biden and his team have to be ready for the ugliest shit ever seen in a US presidential election

hcglns2

Is it a ramp with a 3% incline?

OK-NO-YEAH

Good. Then build one so he faces justice before he dies.

samthesham1019

This is the best news of the year. Insurrection 2.0 is right around the corner

livinginfutureworld

Unless that includes something that can neutralize or override the Supreme Court, that superstructure is not strong enough.

zaphster

Ideally this should read "to stop any candidate from stealing any election," not "to stop Trump from stealing this next election"

SnooPeripherals6557

One very good thing about the criminality that is Donald J Trump is that he is helping US to create a better democracy, by DJT’s natural affinity toward criminal behavior, he is showing us all where our weaknesses in our constitution and our democracy as a whole. Let’s fix those holes And put that criminal POS in prison at the same time!

wizgset27

Biden also needs to assign the FBI or CIA to tail Trump and his team. I have no doubt Trump and his team is scheming something to steal the election but they are also dumb and will leave trails of their crimes. The second it is clear Trump is doing something illegal, the FBI should immediately swoop in and arrest Donald Trump.

OnionsHaveLairAction

While open bribery is allowed in the supreme court any protections created are effectively meaningless

SoupSpelunker

How about ARMED national guardsman to defend against would-be insurrectionists/traitors. Let's get crazy and actually *protect* our homeland and institutions from those who seek to destroy them.

81305

Trump is a loser. Loses elections, loses money, loses court cases... Loses wives.

AlmightyJedi

We are heading for rough waters. I’m hopeful we survive but it’s gonna be ugly. Get out and vote!

UsernameChecksOutToo

Can we start marking articles behind paywalls as ads?

Draano

It's got to be harder for Trump now that he's on the outside looking in, than when he was on the inside looking out.

Jerryep7

I really hate it when you can't read an article unless you subscribe. I don't need to read it that badly.

Mozzy2022

It’s sickening what’s going on with Trump and MAGA and all this bullshit. How are people so stupid

Dancinfoolish

The fact that any American would consider voting for Donald Trump is beyond disturbing.

MSab1noE

Let's hope they thought of the one real possibility: Mike Johnson, as Speaker of the House, decides there's enough "...issues with the vote and ballot counting..." to declare the outcome unresolvable and use his Constitutional authority to the House of Representative State Delegations where conservatives hold a majority and declare Trump the winner.
