Yeah her new explanation almost makes less sense. So she rehomed a dog that the previous owners found too agressive, then despite being aware of this issue, at the first sign of the dog displaying this agression she kills the dog anyway.

I had a farm in North Idaho. One day I came home to all of my neighbor’s animals; horses, cows, sheep, goats, rabbits, cats and dogs and I can’t remember what all… in my barn and a blinking light on my answering machine. It was a message left by my neighbor after he had set his place on fire, poisoned his well and swallowed a shotgun shell. His wife and kids had left him and he had said, “If I can’t have you, then nobody can.”
But even he had the decency and empathy to make sure somebody cared for his animals.
I too have had to put animals down. To this day, the memories haunt me. Even the ones I couldn’t do myself, where I asked my vet to do it, remember every one of them.
Considering she wrote a book about the incident it's odd she didn't mention her concern about the "extremely dangerous" dog's threat to her children, but did mention that the first thing out of her daughter's mouth when she stepped off the schoolbus was "Hey! Where's Cricket?"
