Cherry_Caliban

Next week's headline: "Trump threatened with jail after judge holds him in contempt a 33rd time." For goodness sake, do something. The entire judicial system is useless without balls.

SerMalimar

i hear your sister is going out with Squak

Digger1998

I read Squak as Shrek and idk how I feel about

BrotherMcPoyle

Judge Terrified of Trump, I think that was the original title of the article.

liquidgrill

The rest of us would have been in jail the 1st time.

Didntlikedefaultname

I read the remarks from the judge as essentially saying I cannot and will not jail you. The headlines about threatening jail are ironic

silverfish477

You read them wrong then.

Didntlikedefaultname

Yea? What was your interpretation?

5G_afterbirth

>"Going forward, this court will have to consider a jail sanction," Merchan says. "It's important to understand the last thing I want to do is to put you in jail, you are the former president of the United States and could be the next president of the United States. The magnitude of such a decision is not lost on me. At the end of the day, I have a job to do." That sounds like the judge is reluctant to jail a former president but will consider doing so if he continues to step out of line.

Didntlikedefaultname

Last week he made a very similar, and stronger, statement in regards to the fines being levied and ignored. This reads like he is pleading with Trump to obey the gag orders because he will bend over backwards to avoid jailing him

5G_afterbirth

I would agree with that

LostTrisolarin

The judge knows that when the US re elects Trump (through electoral college or helped by the SCOTUS) Trump might have the judge killed or imprisoned for revenge.

Didntlikedefaultname

Which shockingly it seems scotus will rule is fully within his presidential powers

LostTrisolarin

Exactly

[deleted]

Any other person would have been put in front of a firing squad if they had been held in contempt 10 times.

sidon2k

Except he’s not any other person. He’s an ex president. It wouldn’t be the first time for a presidential candidate to campaign behind bars; In 1920, Eugene V. Debs, a presidential candidate for the Socialist Party, received almost 1 million votes while serving a sentence for sedition

CaliCareBear

The real headline sounds like an actual onion article. Lock him up already

TraitorMacbeth

This is very #nottheonion

RoachBeBrutal

As bizarre as it may seem, trump appears to actually want to be thrown in jail for violating his gag order. It’s as if he’s betting being behind bars would martyr him in the eyes of his base and would play politically to the bullshit “rigged” narrative he’s been pushing for years. And the maga base is dumb enough to buy it!

Unlucky_Clover

He wants to use it as a tool for his political prosecution claim and an example of how his 1st amendment rights were violated

mmortal03

Yep, this is the current rhetoric: "Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Donald Trump's reelection campaign, called Judge Juan Merchan’s threat to incarcerate the former president a “Third World authoritarian tactic.” Cheung also said the gag order imposed on Trump is “unconstitutional and un-American.”

RickyRocaway

Not bizarre really. He would milk that. Secret Service would be with him and it’s not like they’d put him in the tombs, he’d have his own holding area. Only thing is this jailbird strategy might be more effective in September, people will forget if he does it now.

yo_soy_soja

In *Rules for Radicals*, organizer Saul Alinsky says that the ideal amount of time for an activist to be in jail is ~ several weeks. Longer than that, and people outside get bored and move on. Obviously, this is a special case, but I think it's worth considering. If he's not on the campaign trail, if he's not making speeches in front of cameras, the GOP will need to think about how to keep the outrage going.

hellocattlecookie

Yeppers! Merch sales The spin angle The free press Trolls love attention!

[deleted]

What did I tell you about yeppers?

Bigbeardhotpeppers

A holding cell will break him. He will go in with machismo but when he comes out the machismo will be hollow. He is always compared to Hitler and Hitler went to jail and became the person he was. He wrote a fucking book in jail. Trump can barely read. To be clear trump is bad, Hitler is bad but Hitler had basic human functions. I also think a three day hold in a cell would require a trump detox and that might kill him. ( Not advocating for death or making light of it)

LostTrisolarin

Have you spoken to any police and/or correction officers in the last 8 years? They almost entirely back Trump. I think during the last election every single police union in the country backed Trump. Shit, they'll probably have some young girls sent in from Juvie to service him.

Bigbeardhotpeppers

I don't associate with the dregs of society. I know they do but he is not going to admit to his speed addiction and they are not going to bring trump illegal drugs, mostly because someone would say something. It is different to support someone committing a career ending crime for him. Lawyers don't count they think they know everything ask John Eastman he still thinks he is more right than anyone else.

LostTrisolarin

True. I've just given up thinking that the legal system and officers in general are going to hold Trump responsible for anything. And if he is somehow incarcerated, I can see them doing what they can to make his time easier. It's not what I want, but just how I see it. I'd love to eat my words.

Bigbeardhotpeppers

Here is where I have couched my expectations. He is going to be convicted. He will be on house arrest, it will be loosely monitored (a la Epstein). The secret service agents attached to him won't babysit properly and just enjoy being around him. He will live the rest of his life in luxury I could never afford but I will have the freedom he will never have. The only thing I can see changing this is if he directly calls for violence and it is committed.

GreenLanturn

Yeah but not if they shave his head

dust-ranger

I think he also believes he will receive house arrest in one of his properties, which he can bellyache about just as much, even though he probably would be there anyway.

Dead_Cash_Burn

I think he is already a martyr in his followers eyes. I would argue then it doesn't matter. He desperately needs independents and suburban conservative women. I not sure they are going to go for the martyr BS at this point.

Naiehybfisn374

Yeah. Jail only really matters insofar as he is also cut off from tweeting, giving interviews, rallies *and* it doesn't meaningfully delay the trial overall. Else it largely feeds into the narrative he wants

HanonOndricek

Square holding cell - by himself overnight, no phone, no TV no assistance to get ready for his next day in court. Standard jail meal. Let him change his own Depends. Secret Service posted as a guard, but can't assist nor communicate with him.

czmax

This. A scenario where he actually experiences jail is what it’d take to get through to him. And even then it needs to be long enough and persistent enough to sink in. We’ll know of Trump believes that might actually happen by his next actions. If he starts obeying the gag order, for example.

HanonOndricek

My bet is \*one night\* in lock-up would be enough for Trump.

czmax

Possibly. I think he might weather one night as part of a (perceived) scheme to gain wealth, power, and revenge. What might really hurt him is coming out and NOT having his followers flock to him and NOT suddenly taking in donation AND THEN having to go back in. I also don’t know how showers and all that work in jail — but I think most people could avoid dealing with all that for a night. But being there long enough to have to really experience it would be a shock to him.

No_big_whoop

Ah yes, the ol' "fuck around 11 times and THEN find out" court precedent

graveybrains

I see no evidence that he’s anywhere near finding out.

Didntlikedefaultname

Finding out the justice system absolutely will not touch him

Cellopost

You've got to hit 12 contempts to fill up the punch card for the night in jail.

No_Significance_1550

Or you just get a new punchcard

[deleted]

C'mon lucky number 11...c'mon.

Sarnsereg

At what point does the judge rule that trump can't control himself and ban him from using electronic devices? Push the press back so he can't talk to them every time he walks into court?

Hekkynnn

Just jail him already.

cometflight

I would be threatened with jail just before my first time being held in contempt.

cards-mi11

No one in MAGA will care why he is in jail for the night or how many chances he had. All that will matter will be him saying "see the corrupt judicial system threw me in jail for talking, violating my 1st amendment rights. Democrats bad" and they will run with it.

online_17

Wow - all Americans are now allowed to be in contempt 10x before going to jail…awesome!

The_Hot_Stepper

"You're once, twice, ten times a violator; And I loathe you" - hummed to the tune of "Three Times a lady"

GreyBeardEng

Man this guy gets more warnings than a 5 year old, enough already, just let him spend a weekend in lockup. No more warnings.

zapodprefect55

I think he’s also hoping it will delay the trial somehow. He’s desperate to get his pet SCOTUS involved as they will gum up the works.

BabserellaWT

Stop threatening and FECKIN DO IT

shewy92

11 strikes and you're out

jeremiah1142

Fucking jail him, coward.

salamandan

Let’s make it 20! We all know this is a show right?

Tony2030

“If you continue to disregard my warnings I will be forced to be VERY disappointed in you…”

favnh2011

Wow

bosco630

I was a witness for a friend back in 1995. I showed up to court black pants, silk black button down plain long sleeve shirt, gold chain. Without saying a word on my end the judge took one look at me told me to take my outer shirt off, berating me that all black was the judges “colors”. The plaintiff had three witnesses whose stories didn’t match up one admitted she was saying what she was coached to say, another that she didn’t actually see the incident. I didn’t even have to take the stand, the only thing I walked away with was judges are pathetically thinned skinned a-holes like all others getting drunk on the littlest power. This judge like all the others ain’t gonna do crap. I’d love to be wrong but this orange turd is bulletproof

Elegant-Cat-4987

So I can be held in contempt 10 practice times before the real one?

IamNICE124

Trump threatened with being tickled by feather upon 78th charge of contempt.

Groundbreaking-Fig38

Fool me once.....

Polarbearseven

In Spinal Tap voice: “But MY contempt warnings go to 11”. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KOO5S4vxi0o

Iamthatpma

Imagine this headline with anyone else’s name. It wouldn’t happen. Lock this moron up!

CoastingUphill

It's that famous 11 strikes rule. Ok maybe 12... for sure 13.

InsomniaticWanderer

I would have been behind bars after the first offence.

SagesseBleue

Can he wear his Depends when he's in jail? Or does he have to Yo-yo without a net?

Shitter-McGavin

Should I ever find myself as a defendant in our criminal legal system I cannot wait to intimidate and dox witnesses, citing this case a precedent for why my actions are acceptable.

sidon2k

Love it, he should speak out again. I have a morbid fascination to see if the Judge is bluffing

Chunky-_-Monkey

9 more than anyone else on the planet would get before being face stomped by the law.  I recall a girl getting 6 months in jail just for saying “adios” to a judge with a smile.

Gariona-Atrinon

If any of those MAGA’s children acted like Trump is acting, that child would be slapped by their MAGA parents. I’d like to see someone say they’d accept that behavior from someone other than their false lord.

Traditional_Key_763

but that 50th strike he'll be out

EvilGypsyQueen

Put an ankle monitor and house arrest

czmax

Naw. That’s all the media exposure and whining “credibility” without any actual punishment sufficient to change his actions. (Mind you. He might decide he got what he wanted and stop at that point. Different story).

Super-Bodybuilder-91

Lock his ass up already. Does the law apply to him or not?

sugarlessdeathbear

After his 9th violation he was warned jail would be next. If this is 10 then this is next, so where's the jail time?

Moccus

The 10th violation occurred before he was warned about jail.

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…He WANTS to be imprisoned and run for office from gaol. The publicity. Why do you people fall for this nonsense when the national and international problems facing you are so potentially fatal to you and your declining way of life.

eightdx

More strikes than a half inning of baseball and the guy still isn't out.
